Hello RDM fam! In this video I'll be testing some hot new makeup releases like Patrick Ta's major skin foundation, Vieve Ninetease eyeshadow palette and lipstick and Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk face palette. In addition, I'm chatting about something very personal- how I've been feeling about aging, and the struggles I'm going through. I know a lot of my viewers are going through the same things, so I want you to know you're not alone! Since there will always be negative Nancy's on social media, I am fully aware that getting older is a blessing, and not everyone has the privilege of doing so. I am human though, and it's not wrong or bad to have these feelings. We should not be comparing who is struggling more, or suffering more, or judging people who are having feelings you may not think they should have. Let's show each other kindness and grace!

Risa, you're a beautiful YOUNG woman, inside and out! I'm 72 and enjoy watching you and several other beauty UA-camrs who are 25 or more years younger than me. When I turned 40 I cried, not because I was 40 but because of how fast time went from 20-40. I knew 40-60 would go even faster!! 😳 And it did!! Aging isn't for sissies! And it's definitely better than the alternative! I was in excellent health until I reached 70. Bam! Every test's results seem to become another test needing to be ordered. Ugh! I'm faithful about routine tests and annual physicals. I do skin care every morning and night and I continue to take care of how my makeup looks, transitioning into changes in what I use and how I apply it as I age. Even though I sometimes feel that I look 80, many people, friends and strangers alike, have said I don't look my age. It's the miracle of modern makeup. 😉😊 Try drinking organic Tart Cherry Juice for sleep. I swear it works for me. It's an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant as well.

@@victoriap4335 ... I seldom have trouble sleeping, but as I've gotten a bit older ( I'm in my late 60's) I sometimes find I will have a bit of that trouble. The tart cherry juice does actually work , I just don't do it everyday. I discovered a ' supplement cocktail " as I call it , 4 years ago , and although it might take several weeks for you to see results it does work a good magnesium supplement that is like a 2000 mg and an Omega 3 supplement, even a liquid one . One hour before your normal sleep time. I also read, this sort of " signals " your brain to start shutting down. ... and when I say read I mean something that isn't graphic something enjoyable you can even look at mail order catalogs or read a book of Affirmations ...just anything that will kind of put you in a different frame of mind to slow your brain down. Also the Epsom salt baths with magnesium those will help you sleep as well. Just offering a few suggestions, 🙂😊

I turn 47 at the end of this year and it’s been rough seeing and feeling the process of getting older. Two years ago I went into surgical menopause and holy cow the effects of that has been mind blowing. I feel like 10 years of aging happened in a year and a half. The changes in my skin, the overall feeling of tiredness, the hot flashes!!! wee-doggy!!! I feel you and totally understand that feeling of falling apart and how heartbreaking it can feel!!! But we are strong and we are vibrant and we are beautiful….all of us. So we all stand together in this aging circle and lift each other up!!!!

I’m 57. Aging is definitely an process of adjustment that is so much more than grays and wrinkles! Turning 50 for me was like a light switch had been flipped. My time tested beauty/self care routine had to be recalibrated. It’s like my skin was someone else’s skin and I couldn’t deal with that change very easily. Getting hormone medication really helped the transition. And telling myself I AM good enough, over and over. And I am not ready to embrace being gray yet, and I applaud those you have embraced it. But I am not there yet, lol. I LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS RISA. You will find your way through this.

Rochelle I had the same experience with those changes when I turned 52! Couldn't figure out why my makeup suddenly looked like crap (went from oily to dry), all the foundation colors looked weird (because my red hair was turning grey), and the way I'd done my eye makeup for 37 years looked ridiculous (new hooding and downturned eyes). It's been a journey to say the least..lol

@Angela, couldn’t agree more, I’m 63 and with a care factor of what others think Zero, that’s one of the bonuses of getting older, you don’t care what others think of you as much anymore, I still love my makeup and fashion just like I did when I was in my 30’s, I watch younger UA-camrs and get styling tips from them rather than someone that dresses differently to me, I dress how I want to, plus my hubby of over 40 years loves it, I’m still the young girl he married all those years ago. ❤️❤️

As far as the gray - I haven't colored my hair for 3 years and it is absolutely a transition you have to set your mind to. Don't let anyone pressure you into coloring or not coloring your hair. My blonde was part of my identity and when I stopped highlighting my hair I didn't feel like myself anymore. I felt frumpy - none of my makeup worked with the dull graying brown hair so it is a change you have to be ready for. It's videos like yours that challenge me to try new makeup and applications and I'm grateful for that "push" that I need to not let myself look rundown tired and frumpy lol.

I'm really sorry that you've been struggling. Chronic health issues/chronic pain seems to just enhance the aging quagmire. I'm 51 and have been dealing with the same things you are for a couple of years. There are days I just want to give and throw my hands in the air (and maybe hurl something across the room at the same time). I admire you for being able to put on a happy face and power through the tinnitus. I can't imagine how stressful that must be. You've been able to take it on with grace and aplomb. I would never have known that you were facing something so significant without you sharing it. Holding all of that in with your radiant smile had to become heavy. Thank you for being so honest - particularly emotionally honest - about the aging process. It's always good to be reminded that others are facing the same thing and not always having an easy to. Hang in there. It gets better (or so I hear).

It’s easy for people to pick others apart from the comfort and safety of their cellphone or pc. I learned to ignore them. It isn’t always easy but it is very doable and gives me peace of mind. I am so grateful for this video! "Falling apart" is the perfect word for how I have felt since turning 49, I will be 50 in December. First, I had to start taking high blood pressure medication. My blood pressure was never high before turning 49! I got attacked and assaulted by one of my psych patients, I am an R.N. on a very acute psychiatric unit. Then my liver enzymes were extremely elevated and the doctors can't figure out why. I don't drink at all so it isn't alcohol related. Anxiety, depression, insomnia, eye sight deterioration, thinning hair, puffy eyes. Before I hit 47 I use to have people telling me how much younger than my age I looked. That all stopped at 47. Now I get called ma'am everywhere I go. I put on 40 pounds in a 4 month period! Despite these things I will do everything I can to improve and challenge myself. I will remain curious about life and question and search for new ideas. I have also adopted the philosophy that it matters not one bit what others think or say about me. This is my life, and I will live it as such while staying a kind, nurturing human. It is good to know I am not alone.

Joice Covinton - SO sorry about all these negatives happening to you, Joice🙄
The FLD could be a result of metabolic syndrome. It IS something that is becoming more and more prevalent in the U.S. in the past few years - non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. 😒
EDIT! ...Sorry, Joice, I inferred fatty liver (I think bc you mentioned that you don't drink alcohol, and tge docs are stumped).
Non-alcoholic FLD is on the rise in the U.S. and our medical establishment's narrative on it has generally been 🤷‍♂️ they dont know why...
I just re-read your post and realize now that you said elevated enzymes, not fatty liver. Hoping you don't have fatty liver, but elevated liver enzymes are sometimes a indication, ir precursor to FLD.)...just wanted to clarify, I may have jumped to a conclusion I shouldnt have.🙄
Diet, chronic stress, poor sleep (genetics, too) can all contribute to many of these ailments/symptoms you have.
A functional medicine M.D. could do you wonders. A doc who will treat your whole person - diet/lifestyle/exercise/genetic predisposition, etc. naturally...beginning with some possible food modulations, exercise suggestions, stress reduction, microbiome health - naturally first - then moving to pharmaceuticals IF other measures aren't working.
Unfortunately, your job sounds awfully toxic, and (imo) could be a big contributing factor to your health issues.
Functional medicine is, of course, ideal health care (as opposed to sickness 'care') - something our current "healthcare' system doesn't readily offer in this country.
My best suggestion would be to start with tuning in to
Dr. Peter Attia's health podcasts. Or if you'd rather watch - many of his episodes are searchable on YT. He has an episode on just about every health topic ( or disease) that exists - benefits of exercise, also.
You can learn alot about your own health by listening to his podcasts. You can go to his website -Google his name (I forget the URL), and there you will find a listing for all his podcasts.
Best thing you can do is to educate yourself about the health issues you are facing, and go from there.
Because, if you are locked into our current 'healthcare' (sick-care) system, chances are you will be treated 1st and foremost with pharmaceuticals, rather than a doctor treating your whole person and advising on diet/lifestyle, etc. - regularly checking your biomarkers to see what is, or is not, working for you ;))
Wishing you the best, Joice... Good luck👍

Hi Risa, thanks for being so candid in this video. I am 60 and I have a 35 year old son and I don't know how that happened because, last I remember, I was 35 and super slim. Then 💥 everything rapidly changed!
I tried to "embrace" my grey hair but, 🙅‍♀️ My eyesight changed and I also suffered from tinnitus- sirens constantly ringing in my ears 😖
    Thankfully, that has subsided.
Risa, you are so elegant and beautiful and your videos inspire me. My son told me that, ever since I turned 60, I've been complaining more. I think it's because I've learned to not take sh*t from anyone and to stand up for what I feel is right for me. I feel so empowered now. I also have days when I feel down but I overcome them. Do whatever makes your heart feel happy. Stay strong, stay beautiful 😍

    • @acrabill1
      @acrabill1 2 роки тому +1

LOL....oh, the hot flashes! I actually went through menopause in my early 40's (am 50 now) and hot flashes were really the only symptom I had and they are awful. Men don't understand most of what women deal with but try explaining hot flashes to them, lol My husband would constantly "give advice". Turn the AC down, wear less clothes, etc and I would tell him that I could be laying in the snow naked and it still wouldn't help because it's a radiating heat from the inside out. I never knew such a thing was possible until experiencing it. Now that I'm post-menopausal the hot flashes don't hit me randomly throughout the day anymore but there's still at least once a day (usually in the evening) where I have a bout of it. Bah!

Oh Risa! I have followed you for a couple of years now, and think you’re awesome! I’m turning 50 in April - and I totally understand what you mean about ageing! Anxiety, sleeplessness, brain fog, change in skin texture, hair texture, painful joints - especially hips and knees… and I started HRT at the beginning of this year. I cannot recommend highly enough! I understand that some women are at high risk and shouldn’t use HRT. But I’m not high risk - and it has been the best thing I’ve done. My skin, hair and joint pain has completely improved. Much less anxiety and I sleep more easily. The positive part of ageing (Lord knows there has to be something….) is that I have what I call ‘don’t give a fuckatude!’ and I love it! It is so liberating to get to the phase of your life where you start living for yourself, rather than everyone else! I love that you’re sharing this, because menopause is a ‘newish’ thing- it’s only been the last 100yrs or so that woman’s mortality was in the range of getting to menopause. And medicine has never been focused on woman’s health. So it was not studied much, and not discussed much until recently. So sharing is women supporting women. I appreciate you using your platform for this! Thank you for this! ❤

Dear Risa, you are truly one of my favourite women on social media! Once I had enough grey roots (plus I’m 5’9” before heels) so not many were tall enough to see my roots, i gave it a go! When I saw the colour & tone of my roots I realized that it was similar to the highlights that I frequently spent $$ on. It was one of the best beauty decisions that I made for myself! Plus my hair is much healthier! I was mostly looking at Pinterest photos before of silver haired women in my age range. I get more compliments on my hair now than ever (and I have had many hair compliments over the years). I’ll be 64 in Nov. and been through menopause too. Physical and Mental/ Emotional/ Spiritual Health care and the company of other women who also want to evolve and nurture themselves to this end has been very important to me. I’ve held Brene Brown book groups (w/journaling and sharing if comfortable to do so), this and other things have been so important in evolving and becoming and nurturing other women who walk the same path! Blessings to you, Risa on your journey! ❤

Risa, I really enjoy your videos. I’m a 57 year old that has loved make-up all my life! I have used a make- up line for years and just got bored. Also, noticed that my make-up techniques needed an upgrade and I was curious about other brands for my aging skin. Found your channel and you are my go to for what I’m going to try. Thank you! I have ordered several things you have reviewed and loved them too! You are an influencer and just picked up the bath gel you talked about from Target -
Another win. I loved your comments here about gray hair. I am a dark brunette that has ALWAYS dyed my hair blond. I was so sick of the constant color- color- that I decided to let it go. It’s so funny to hear people’s reactions to it. My husband would prefer me blond, and I do look “older” than my much older sisters who dye their hair brown. But I don’t care. It’s so easy and I have received many compliments and it’s certainly healthier than it has been for years! Cheaper too!! But aging - not easy. I can’t get over not having a waist. Things just revamped themselves BUT I’m happy, and the more we all embrace our beauty will really help this younger generation I love, do the same. Great video- great channel and keep on loving you! Risa, Risa, Risa - welcome to perimenopause! You've pretty much described every symptom I had. Never had hot flashes or feeling hot, but turned into a raging beeotch due to horrific mood swings. Luckily, there's a pill for that! Helped tremendously & it also helped that my doctor's wife was also perimenopausal & knew what to prescribe. Don't wait too long if symptoms really start to affect you. Your health & well being are super important. I can just hear your less than enthusiastic voice in this video - that is very different for you.

My doc prescribed me b-control pills to “regulate” my hormones but I’m feeling like what I need is HRT cuz all my symptoms stem from decreasing level of estrogen.

@@yukikowu5695 Sorry you're having these issues! My issues started when I was 48 or 49 & now I'm 61 - 9 years post menopausal. Thank goodness.
No, I never wanted to go on HRT due to breast cancer on my dad's side of the family. I ended up getting DCIS breast cancer (non-genetic) anyway last year. Because it's been so long ago, I can't remember name of RX my Dr. put me on initially. I believe I was on it for two years, then when menopause happened, much less mood swings. I have remained on an antidepressant (Duloxetin) for about 8 years & keeps me even keeled.
Best of luck with your journey. It is truly a journey. Just remember, we're our own best advocate. If doctors pooh-pooh your issues/symptoms, do research & get referrals and find someone that listens to you. I believe female doctors listen much better than male doctors. Just my opinion.

Women like yourself can be a part of changing those things with a platform like UA-cam. Much love!

💖💖💖Thank you for being so raw and vulnerable in sharing the challenges of aging! I just turned 48, and and I totally relate. I am also not jumping on the go grey trend, it’s just not me, but I do applaud women who are rocking it and look beautiful. I believe gratitude and living a balanced life in your mind, body, and spirit keeps you shining on the inside and out. You are amazing, and inspiring, ignore any negativity and enjoy the journey with grace. ✨💖

Thank you for sharing. I can so relate…I turned 40 in March and I’ve been struggling with getting older and how fast time goes by. I still see my mom as 45 and my 14 year old son as a 5 year old. It is so hard!!! Life is going by so fast.

😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘Your vent reminded me of my premenopausal days!!! Add to that the pressure you must feel working in the beauty industry.... that's a recipe for many struggles unless you start embracing changes. telling yourself you are "falling apart" is not only an exaggeration (indicative of stress and fatigue) but it is fighting the inevitable!
Do believe us when we tell you that you are stunning. The sooner you accept the menopause rollercoaster the better you will feel....
Enjoy your holiday, and keep dying your hair blond if it makes you feel good. Aging doesn't have to be a fight when you are blossoming!

Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I'm 53 and thought I was probably too old for your channel. I thought you were in your 30s! You look amazing. You are so right, it goes so fast and the aging seems to go at warp speed once it starts. I started menopause at 37 and have been on HRT. It helps with some of the things like brain fog, itchy skin, and hot flashes. But wish it helped slow down the face sagging - it does not lol. My hair started thinning, have the face bumps in the same place. I now need reading glasses just to cook or go shopping! And the body - damn I can pull a neck muscle just looking to the left. :-) One thing I feel I cannot wear is eyeshadow that has any shimmer/frost in it. Curious if you will find that as you age. It just settles too much. Love your channel. Would love more chat videos. Even if you didn't do your makeup and just wanted to vent. Again thank you for talking about this. It really does help me feel better and not depressed. We need to stick together!

I wanted to add that when I was younger I used to say I would never be one of those people who cared about their age and I would never let it get to me. Ummm I was wrong! ha

I loved this video Risa, keeping it real for all us ladies who are also currently going thro so many changes, I love a good moan and you did it so well lol! Maybe do more of this type of content as us mature ladies like to know we're all in this together!! xoJoanxo

Risa, I'm so happy that you talked about everything you did in this video as I feel it's important to talk about these real things. I appreciate your willingness to be vulnerable and share your experiences. I can definitely relate as I've experienced much of what you've mention a couple of years ago. I feel like I'm beginning to come out the other side of it, and I'm relieved. Thankfully we have women like your mom and grandma to show us going through it that it will be ok on the other side. Again, thank you for sharing.

This is the best video you've done, in my opinion. I'm sorry to hear that weariness in your voice, but it's totally relatable x infinity. There's so much I could say here. I'm so glad that you're here with your channel. The content creation conveyor belt is so overwhelming!! I'm waiting for perimenopause myself, but I waited to have kids so mine are littler. I didn't anticipate the lack of energy, but other than that, wouldn't change a thing. If you have haters, it means that you're doing something right! It's such a reflection of them and has nothing to do with you.
I'm a reluctant beauty influencer (that word makes me so uneasy) but I'll be 49 next June, so I'm right behind you. I watch all of your videos because I look forward to your insights and personality! I've shared your hooded-eye videos with everyone I know. Society and more importantly, any company that stands to make money off of our insecurities will do so at every opportunity, especially to sell more hair dye and anti-aging treatments, for example. If we accepted our natural processes, a lot of companies would be bankrupt and execs would be out of jobs. Keep up the outstanding work as I know I'm not the only one that appreciates you and is a lifelong fan.

Keep going and ignore (the best you can) the negative Nancy’s 😀💝💐 I have wore hormone patches for 20 years they are low dose .05 and they have helped me tremendously and I also wearing my grey hair proudly now for a year.

I’m 70 and stopped coloring my hair years ago and never looked back. It’s so freeing not to have to worry about roots! ( and my daughter was in Agreement all the way). I love your content because you are always so honest and down to earth. BTW I couldn’t find the link to that other beauty content creator you mentioned so maybe you could add a pin comment with a link. ❤❤❤❤❤

I felt the same way when I was in my early 50’s.
Fortunately my menopause symptoms went away 🙏
I’m now almost 65 and am finally embracing all my changes with skin, body issues and hair. No more covering the gray and it’s growing in beautifully.
    You will get there too.
You are a beautiful and talented lady and I so enjoy your videos 💜💜💜

We are definitely our worst critics. I see nothing but beautiful when I see you. I’m 49 and would feel blessed to have your face and body. On the other hand I down myself and have people say the same to me and I only see the bad. We will get through it ❤

I love this video and yes it’s ok to vent and yes getting older sucks and we are expected to handle it gracefully but sometimes it’s hard lol. I am 55 and turning 55 has been the hardest year for me, I also feel like I’m falling apart, my body is not the same, the hot flashes are terrible even on HRT, brain fog is real and so is lack of sleep. But even with all that I am so blessed with a wonderful family, a new grandson and a husband who still thinks I’m hot 😊. I am not on TikTok but I have decided this year to stop coloring my hair and let it go gray and I am so happy with my decision! I love my gray hair! But when I was 49 I would have never dreamed of not coloring my hair, I was not ready then, and it’s ok if your never ready, it’s a very personal decision. Take care of yourself, get your eyes checked, take care of your tenitis, I know how horrible it can be, and enjoy your life! And keep making these amazing videos!

Girl! I could have spoken every single word in this video. In fact, at times I said what you were about to say right before you said it because I’m 54 and have experienced everything you mentioned here and more. It’s definitely a lot learning to adjust and live with so many changes in such a short amount of time. I look at my eyelids and jowls and all of the other drying, falling, changing body parts and while I would love to fix them, I don’t feel like I would be authentically me. I have attempted to let my gray grow out since February and it looks HORRIBLE. It has resulted in mousy brown hair with gray “tinsel” as I call it. I have an appt next week to get highlights put back in. This meno/covid hair loss is insane and I hate the course texture. Maybe I’ll try again in 10 years when I have more gray. I don’t have a lot so it just looks drab. The ONLY thing I would consider right now is getting my eyelids done and ONLY because they are so hooded now it effects my vision. Oh isn’t it great facing all of these changes? Not, but I’m grateful to have made it this far since many have not. Shine on, girl, there is nothing wrong with the way you look!

Risa, I love your channel because you are so genuine and beautiful inside and out and it shows!! Try not to let those trolls get you down!! You are right about the 40’s flying by! I am 53 and the 40’s seemed to be the fastest decade of my life!! As for the gray hair, I know it’s not for everyone, but I let my gray hair grow out and although the process was not easy, I get so many compliments now. It was definitely worth it!!

I totally relate! I’m 49 and started a bad Perimenopause several years ago. To top it all off, I’m ending my 40’s with Long Covid! Fortunately, it’s rather mild but on top of perimenopause’s hormonal fluctuations, it’s a fun time.😂😢

I don’t have any words of wisdom, but you are courageous to share your struggles so freely. The internet, like aging, can be brutal. I wear minimal makeup but enjoy watching you and your love for it. Hang in there, that hill is steep. Just turned 60 this summer. Women supporting women !!
