Jane is spot on - a child under 10 shouldn’t be walking past shops or food stuffs and be able to choose crap - a 4 year old only eats what you give them it’s as simple as that! When they’re teens going to school on their own I can sort of understand, but then where are they getting their money from?? These parents who say “I feed them all the right things, why is she fat” - because you’re feeding her too much, stop medicalising everything!!

A parent cannot teach a child if they them selves were brought up on crap. They don't know any different.. Sweets chocolate crisps and burgers .. chips and god knows what. Plus they don't get out and exercise enough.
Most parents these days cannot even make a stew, let alone what would go into it. They're all to happy to give them what they want and also ready meals out of the freezer.
Some parents don't have the time nor the energy after getting home from work even if they have kids or not, to cook correctly.
That's because they're having to work more hours to keep up with the bills and repayments.
So it's a ready meal or the chippy..
Wages are so low these days and prices of things gone through the roof, which just compounds the situation.
We in England work more hours than most of our European neighbours.. And whatever google says its got this one wrong, the last two jobs i had have been over 70 hours a week and not 41 as per average as google suggests. My friends in other lines of work are the same..
And as a bus driver one week i did almost 60 hours, this is WAY TO MUCH. It's not safe. Pubs used to have last orders at 10;20 at night, now they're open later.
Shops were closed on a Saturday after 12 mid day and not open on a Sunday. Now it's a given that you if you're in this line of work that you must comply and do the hours and days.
This is not right, IT IS NOT A GIVEN , AND FIRMS SHOULD NOT BE IMPOSSING IT UPON THE STAFF.
I walked out of my last two jobs because of the hours getting longer and longer.. i will not do it.. and until people stand up and say no enough is enough then they will keep you chained to whatever it is that you do.
      Tell them no bugger off.

There is no "food environment" except for the food you PERSONALLY DECIDE to purchase and consume.

Not really. Don't feed your kids crap, teach them to view food as fuel and not something you eat for comfort or pleasure. If someone has a medical issue it's different. But for most people (including myself), if you are fat you are taking in more than you are burning off. You are not only causing your children to have a harder life by being fat, you are also teaching them that they don't need to take personal responsibility for anything and it's the world that needs to change and not them.

@@somethingsomethingdeathsta748 No not really,I think most people know that being fat is not desirable or that it will make life harder for kids if they are unfit or overweight. The fact is weight and health is not as simple and it is related to income inequality and other issues such as where you live and how much moeny you earn and also issues like mental health so to blame it all on peoples personal responsibility and not take account of food companies and other retailers who make alot of money out of selling unhealthy food is also unfair.
Yes ultimately it is our responsibility if we want to be healthy as we can be and make better food choices especially for our children who have no choice other than what we feed them income, time and having easy access to good quality affordable healthy food is also an issue.
Also food is simply not just fuel but it to do with pleasure and comfort and all those things too and to ignore that is a mistake. The thing is to teach how to prepare healthy food espcially on a budget and quickly and also how to have comfort and treats without it being harmful or ignoring our mental health or other issues which make people comfort eat.Why do people comfort eat in the first place ?

Jane is 1000% correct! Who else’s fault would it be? Kaye can’t blame it on people being busy. We’ve never had it easier! People that grew up in poor areas, such as this east end of London during the war, they were busy. They were working hard they had limited time, they were extremely poor and yet children were slim and food was cooked from scratch. If you have ever seen a very overweight family in the supermarket and glanced in their trolley, I have, you are likely to see lots of junk food and multipack bags of crisps. It is 100% the parents fault. Who else’s would it be? It’s laziness. It’s easy to shove some crisps and a ready meal in front of your kids. It’s harder to cook from scratch, but that’s what you need to do for the sake of your children’s health! Take responsibility. It’s like those cases you see where children are having to have their baby teeth removed because they’re all rotting! Is that the parents fault? Of course it is because they’re giving them so many sugary foods are not brushing their teeth! We shouldn’t have a gentle approach in case it’s like that, so it’s not offend the parents. What matters is the kids! You do need to offend the parents, make them realise what they’re doing!

Kaye is wrong --- Jane is correct. You have to plan. Stop snacking .... kids should finish eating by 17.00pm, like your parents did in the 1970s. When we said later we are hungry, your mother would have said "you should have eaten more at tea".
Stop feeding your children carbs, starchy carbs, juices - do not cook in vegetable oils eg sunflower, corn oil ... all toxic for the body. Potatoes is sugar, bread is sugar, pastries is sugar, rice is sugar, pasta is sugar. Do not feed your children cereals ... they are truly the worst.
Feed you kids eggs and streaky bacon for breakfast. Serve them good meat broth and meaty stews, high fat mince for supper. Do not push vegetables on children either.
I am now a 55 year old Carnivore - for three years nearly 4 now I have been eating only fatty meats, butter, fatty fish, I cook in lard, tallow ... love beef, lamb, organ meats, lots of eggs, Never felt better in my entire life, I have energy, menopause symptoms disappeared, hair grown back thick, no joint pain, brain is working again, depression gone and mood swings gone.

And as for the whole "I've got a mental health issue" & or "I've got an underactive thyroid" what about ppl who tick both of those boxes & aren't obese? Jane is right, there are parents that just ignore the advice that's around us regarding healthy eating cos they think they can do what they want & that we have freedom of choice which - let's face it - is getting exploited these days. I grew up with both my parents working but they put their foot down regarding how much we put into our bodies. It is tricky in terms of what kids eat when they're at school or just not around Mummy & Daddy but it can be dealt with if the parents can be bothered to do something about it. Plus, they have to lead by example as the child's role model to begin with too

I’ve got two grandchildren, both boys, a year apart, both eat the same foods, ones 9, the other 10. One is skinny as a bean and the other one is larger in bone structure and slightly fat, so don’t tell me it’s the parents fault!

Children under 11 you should teach them to eat in moderation, be active and signed them up to clubs. I equip my child with the knowledge they need so when they are alone without me they can make the right decision. Parents are 100% responsible for the obese child

These cookery shows are bullshit for a few reasons.
    1) you need expensive ingredients that poorer families cannot afford on a budget
    2) you need expensive cooking utensils to get the same results that they get.
Eg. We all know that you cannot flip an omelette in an average frying pan.
    3) the shows are edited to make the cooking look easier than it really is

As the custodian of your child you are responsible for what they eat and what they drink what you bring in that house is determined By you what they’re going to eat if it’s not in the house they can’t eat it now after they become teenagers of course they probably going to eat things that you don’t know about but you still governing what they eat in your house.
