Yellowbelly fishing with a Storm Arashi Rattling Deep 10

- With the weather warming up and the river water becoming clearer by the day, the time is right to start flicking lures around! This short but productive session proved that the fish are ready and willing to start smashing lures, and with cod season only 2 weeks away this is most welcome news. I might have only landed 1 golden perch, but my hopes for the summer fishing season are through the roof.

You can find the lure I used in this video at Trellys - www.trellys.co...

What an awesome strike. BANG! Great work and what a ripper yella. I think it may have had some rainbow trout DNA in its blood. LOL
Thanks heaps mate, it sure did smash it aye? Haha you might be right LOL
Nice yella and edit, water looks mint.
Thanks heaps mate. Yeah it's a great spot along there
This is an amazing fishing adventure brother :)
Thanks heaps mate
Great vid mate, love the quiet music and time lapse style mate, nicely done 🎣👍
Thanks Mat! I'm always keen to try a different style of video hehe
Got to be happy with the bargain bin lure.. true sport! well dun again.
Yep I got 6 days to go through a few of your old videos.. wish me luck! Lol
The bargain bin can be a treasure trove, but it can also be a sink hole haha. It depends why the lures made it in there in the first place! This particular lure was definitely worth the money, it dives really fast and swims very well. The yella must have liked it because he smashed it hard enough to fly up above the surface LOL. Have fun trawling through my videos in the coming days mate! Do you have any preferences as to what type of videos you like? I might be able to make some recommendations.
Thanks Rowan for taking the time to reply, I'm a sucker for yabbying, yellow bellies and redfin, there's something about getting heaps of fun out of otherwise normally dull and 'boring' lifeless looking dam or waterway that I get a kick out of. I realy love the sport of useing 2nd grad tackle or non brand name lures, trevs bargains Cheap as Chips, Big W, Kmart,Dimmeys Best and Less stuff.. home made stuff, anyone can go and buy the latest and greatest, in this day and age with all the new fancy gear I think it's too easy. love float fishing aswell. Don't get me wrong good rods, line, seats, nets is a must, the object to which one is trying to entice a hook up is whot Im on about, I live on the coast of South Australia we Target Bluefin tuna during the winter munths, everyone's using $80 Lures from the local spot on and thers me useing a piece of salt and vinegar chips rapper on a hook and out caching! Same as the bream fishing in the Glenelg River hear, guys in the million dollar boats and gear, im rooting for the fellow in little Tinny with his kids with the "Kmart gear" it's not a feel sorry for them its a they had to fish the hardest because they have the "underdog gear" catching beautiful specimens labelling them a true sport fisherman.. in my eyes.
@@trueaussieray9093 Yeah you're absolutely right mate, I love using the cheaper gear as well. You made me laugh with the salt and vinegar chips wrapper though haha I'll have to try that one!
@@RKJFishing yeah just a few little flashy strips of it works a treat
That was a good Yellowbelly! Its always nice to catch a fish on a new bait!👍👍
Thanks mate, you got that right!
Great job what a good looking fish.
Thanks 👍
Storm Arashi ! Great native lures !
Cheers mate! That was my first fish caught on one but from the second I gave one of these a swim I knew they'd be dynamite on the green and gold
Not bad at the end of the day, your out fishing for 1 Yellowbelly, which is better than sittin at home in front of the telly.. Good content as always..
You got that right! Thanks so much mate
Nice work mate good fish
Thanks heaps Brad. Hopefully many more to come during summer!
Nice catch Rohan!! That is a really good looking crankbait. I have a lipless crank from them that is really cool and unique. Tight lines brother!
Thanks heaps mate. I'll have to check out their lipless cranks
Love your vids keep up the good work that deserves a fish
haha cheers mate! Anytime we say "That deserves a fish" we never get one aye? lol
Thanks Rohan, not a bad lure. I've got one in the perch colour, I have trolled it at Eppalock. Your baitcaster setup casts like a dream!
Thanks so much Paul! I have a few of them now, and I'm hoping to run them over at Eppalock in the summer months for sure. I'm definitely happy with that Abu Garcia Promax baitcaster combo, it does exactly what I need it to do! It's starting to show it's age a bit these days though lol
Nice!! Those crankbaits work great for bass over here!
I can imagine that they would haha. I need to get some bigger ones for cod season
Great Yella. Nice work RKJ.
Thanks heaps mate
Well done mate
Cheers Peter!
Nice catch Rohan
Thanks buddy!
Arashi's are one of my go to lures!
I really like how quickly they dive down. I'll have to get some more of them I reckon
looks like a good day, can not wait to get out when all our snow melts
It sure was! Thanks and good luck when you can get out there.
"Oh, that deserves a fish..." 😂🤣 And you did get him too! That was a healthy looking fish, always a pleasure when I see them on your channel. Here's to more fish and a productive rest of the spring and summer! 🍻
Thanks so much mate. Coming into summer in 2 weeks, I should be able to do this type of fishing more often and hopefully land a lot more yellowbelly and cod.
Great job Rohan, you could almost see the fish grab the lure. Have a great night
Haha almost! I got some great footage last year of fish hitting the lures, hopefully I can do it again this year. Thanks buddy, you too!
How awesome is it you got that catch on video 👍👍
Yeah absolutely! I think that about every fish I manage to record haha! In 20 years I'll be lucky enough to revisit a lot of my fishing trips which is awesome!
@@RKJFishing that is awesome
good on ya buddy,you ripper
Thanks heaps Billy. Hopefully heaps more of these to come over the summer months aye?
Great yellow bela LOL. Great to get 1.
hahaha thanks Vincent. Gotta love little slips of the tongue like that aye? lol
So many fish splashing on the surface this arvo on the paspe, was unbelievable, mostly carp, though think some were breeding cod..
Absolutely, the carp have been jumping around like crazy lately! For some reason I still can't catch one though haha
@@RKJFishing Sometimes their minds are on other things. The rains have extended their breeding season, I think. We usually see breeding in October, winding down in the first week of November. They are still going strong in the local creeks though.
@@AndrewFishman You're probably right Roo, I'm usually right into the carp by now but they aren't interested in the baits at the moment. Maybe next month they will go nuts haha
Nice video....👍👍
Thank you 👍
That fish nearly gave you a heart attack when it hit so close to the edge.😂 That'll teach you to pause with your lure so close to you.😜
Hahaha yeah very true, it'll teach me to do it more often LOL
Great lures those arashi rohan
I agree mate, even though that was my first fish caught on one, I used to have a big one for cod but I lost it somewhere in the Loddon river last year lol
@@RKJFishing try trolling behind your kayak
Well done Rohan. Great bargain lure that I'm sure will catch you many fish.
Thanks heaps Jaron, I think so do (assuming I don't lose it LOL)
@@RKJFishing haha true mate. Lots of snags
@@RKJFishing As soon as I take a lure from the tackle box, I accept it is not going back in. I write it off before I make the first cast. Usually, I am right...
@@AndrewFishman Haha I'm touching wood as I type this, but I haven't lost an expensive lure in about a year. Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket LOL
@@RKJFishing LOL. Grab that ticket mate. If I don't lose at least something on a trip, it doesn't feel right lol. The hazard of fishing rock bottoms. The worst is when you lose a lure to a rock and it then floats to the surface just out of casting reach...
Aerial Yebbly FTW! Pauses are so important. Just about every yebbly I have seen caught is on the pause.
haha thanks mate. I think the pause thing applies to most predatory fish actually, it's unreal how many hookups come from a quick stop in the retrieve. They stalk and stalk, and the pause is their moment to strike I think.
@@RKJFishing I find the restart is when the hit comes. Like they are just waiting for that thing to move again. A small twitch is all it takes. I often leave my floaters sitting in the cast zone for a short while before beginning my retrieve. Amazing the number of times I get hit within half a turn of the handle. You are totally correct when you say most predatory fish respond well to pauses, but more so the ambush lurkers than the pelagics. Carp also respond well to a pause, which is why I like to fish for them where I can see them, and it is not too deep. I usually try to get their attention and then drop the plastic to the bottom and leave it sit for investigation.
@@AndrewFishman Absolutely mate, the ambush predators are definitely most triggered from the technique. On the other hand, redfin tend to hit anything that moves haha. I've only hooked a few carp on lures in the past, mostly by fluke, but I'm hoping to study them more in clearer water as time goes on.
You should give us a count of how many flicks you have before getting a fish , would be pretty interesting
That's not a bad idea Adrian, I might plan something like that for cod season. They do call cod the fish of 1000 casts after all hahaha
Nope, nope, nope, yes .....oh...... wow lol. Nice fish Rohan! No fishing in SA for a while :(
Haha thanks heaps Frank. Yeah I heard SA is under the pump at the moment. Sounds like your premiere is onto it early though. As many mistakes as Dan Andrews made, he got us through our mess and we're seeing daylight out the other side, he did well considering he was the 1st to try. Hopefully you guys learned from what we did and can do it even better.
@@RKJFishing Fingers crossed!
Nice yella Bella mate 😁
hahaha I was waiting for someone to mention the yella bella LOL! Thanks mate
@@RKJFishing it does have a good ring to it.
Oh he just go for it hahaha he want it so bad, you make me nervous when you cast it next to te log 😅
Yeah he must have really wanted that lure lol. I have to cast next to the logs because that's where yellowbelly hide to ambush their prey
These fluoro unrealistic colours often perform the best, because they are the most visible.
Very true, although I try to switch to more natural colours in clearer water where the fish can see better
Well done Rohan, he took that like there's no tomorrow...
Healthy looking yellow belly,
Take care mate ATB Jim
Haha yeah he sure did Jim, between the short length of line and how hard he hit it, he catapulted out of the water lol. Good thing I had 50lb braid on there haha!
I can see you treading cautiously lol
Haha yep I definitely was! Those danger noodles freak me out LOL
@@RKJFishing I'm the exact same Rohan
Hi Rohan, looks an ideal spot to take a kayak through. Is there much depth along that stretch?
There's some really nice holes up to 4 or 5 metres deep along there, but most of the middle is 2 to 3 metres deep. I ran the kayak through there a few weeks ago actually but I didn't catch anything hehe
@@RKJFishing I generally fish from the spillway at Eppalock down to the Reserve at Elmore.
Plenty of good water along that stretch for sure! What do you usually catch?
@@RKJFishing Usually manage to remove a carp or two, Yellas and trying to re-catch an 80cm Cod from a few years back. Strangely no redfin the last couple of years.
@@madivan3638 Yeah the redfin have really started dieing down as the cod numbers have increased the past few years.
Hello, wish you a very happy and happy new day like this wonderful video 👍👏👏👏🙋♀️🌼💞💞
Thank you
hey mate have you ever fished the campaspe at echuca of rochester everytime i go up there the water seems real low ?
Yeah I fish that stretch quite a bit actually! There are definitely some shallow spots but there's some nice holes as well
Yellamundi
hahahaha
NOPE , lol, hilarious
Haha thanks John! Glad you enjoyed it mate.
