Their seats are amazing. We have the newer ones that allow Pre K and such size to be put in a 5 point harness belt. Very well thought out. Bravo to SafeGuard.
The school bus held up remarkably well for a semi to strike at that speed. Seat belts could definitely help for side impacts with that kind of force. Would like to see what would happen with a passenger car hitting the bus from the side. I feel like that would be more common then a professional semi driver.
Yeah, well obviously is was dented but if that was a real bus and everyone wore seatbelts then I think they would all survive, but with between mediocre and serious injuries from the piece of metal in the chair.

This is why you ride Crown Supercoaches. They were never changed to meet standards throughout its 49 year manufacturing period, because they surpassed them by miles and even SET some of the standards in use today.
Get rich and buy one to drive to work in. They stopped making those 25 years ago, no parts surplus available, they will never see fleet use again.
That capture was taken in July 2007, 10 years ago. In my area the only buses used are IC Buses. Crown only sold buses to California, Washington, and Oregon for whatever reason.

Laws prevent those older buses from being used to transport students, else there wouldn't be plenty of buses for people like me to get dirt cheap to convert to RVs, after 15 most states have to decommission buses and buy new ones.
In CALI it's illegal to run 2 stroke engines in commercial applications so most crowns would have to be moth balled over most of them being detriot fuel toilet powered. Though some did have Cummins engines.

Yeah put some padding, that metal piece could cause serious grazes, bruises or even scrape off enough skin to cause bleeding, which is very not good.
The sad part is that most schools will not adopt or use buses containing seat belts. The main reason being because these kinds of buses hold less people, and the fact that some schools care more about money than safety.
You are so wrong it hurts. What happens if the bus rolls over? You think young children are going to have the strength to pull their weight off the buckle and push the release button at the same time? And they are kids! Do you really think they are going to willingly put their seat belts on and keep them on the entire time? Do you think the bus driver is going to take 10+ minutes making sure every child is buckled in? And the need to be constantly checking your mirror to make sure the kids are buckled in is a huge distraction for the driver. You say schools care about money more then safety? Well they don't, and if you think they might be trying to save money by refusing to retrofit their entire fleet of buses with brand new expensive seats well you would be right but not for the reason you think. Schools care about safety first and money second, education has one of the lowest government funding so yes they are a little tight on money and cant afford to replace all their seats PLUS buy a few new buses and hire more drivers to make up for the fact that their new seats lowers their capacity by 33%

@@SirFloofy001 I say buckle up. They do. It doesn't take 10 minutes to walk up and back down my aisle. School follows through on kids who take them back off. We drill drill drill evacuation all year. Parents love them. I do too.
Here in NY our governor is getting funding for schools and hopefully bus companies. We've had them mandatory in our district for 18 years. Love them. Kids learned in kindergarten to buckle up. It's just natural now to do. NO huge struggles.

I tried to get belts on busses yrs ago. If it's law in our own vehicles and belts are on planes then why not school busses.
A couple of weeks ago, down at my district, a suv rear ended a bus going 70-80 mph, the driver was on drugs, and at least 4 kids were hospitalized, and at least one is in critical condition because he was standing, Prayers to him/her

This! Seriously! It drives me nuts every time I see someone recording vertical! If you didn't use to do it with your camera ten years ago (and a lot of people who record vertical are older folk who actually used real cameras not built into a smartphone once upon a time), and if you know the form-factor won't translate over well to either social network platforms or sharing via a message, etc., then don't do it. Flip the phone. It'll take care of things for you.

What what a great safety design in having seat belts with shoulder restraints. This was something that should have been thought of years ago. When I was going to school in the 80s we did not have seatbelts. This was one of my mother’s main concern for my safety and the safety of other children.

I'm on lunch break at work and I just wanted to watch this video because I wanted to see the crash and how kids get ejected from the seats
Because it has been stated many times before. Seatbelts do not make buses safer. The seats are compartmentalized which reduces impact travel, and the bus is high enough off the ground that in a crash with a car, the car goes under the seats. Cost is another issue, it would cost up to $12,000 per bus to outfit seatbelts. Another issue is it reduces rescue time and survivability because a child would not be able to escape on their own if they cannot unbuckle the seatbelt, or the belt becomes entangled in such a way as to require cutting it to remove it. If a bus is hit, and flips over, you think a 7 year old child has the ability and strength to unbuckle their seatbelt while hanging upside down or on their side?
It would be good if the back of the seats were facing the front of the bus.

@@Avianca-rr3rf seats facing backwards. Instead of the kids facing forward and the children being thrown forward into the seat in front of them. 2/3 of collisions are front end collisions. But even in other kinds of collisions if the is going forward they won't move around as much in the bus. More controlled. Also, because of legs hanging under the seat it will further retain them from flying out of the seat during high deceleration events.
I should write a scientific paper about this.

I've witnessed a lot of school bus crashes, and all of them I have seen have been non I jury accidents, even full head on collisions, a school bus versus a car.. the bus will win

This makes me laugh, I graduated in 2012 but my school bus that I rode on was a 1984 international, I rode that bus for 3 years, it had a green interior and green seats lol, they finally upgraded to a rear engine blue Bird a year after I graduated.
Have fun finding rear engines in Canada, we don't have those.

Hehe, my bus crashed on monday, November 11, 2019, Veteran's Day, and my bus bas crashed on the side in the morning near the left rear tire, 4 or 6 students were hurt, and luckily, I was completley completely unharmed, it can be scary and buses need seatbelts, and in Illinois, the state I am in, does not require you need to wear seatbelts on the bus, THAT SHOULD BE CHANGED! My bus was forced off the road and fell to its side, stay safe.

I love that it is 2017 and there are just realizing buses should have seat belts. that big rig has seat belts the bus driver has a seatbelt every car in the road has a seatbelt no school buses don't need them lol. all throughout the years I went to school the bus drivers I had were all old and shouldn't have been driving buses they were very dangerous drivers running over curbs and drivers off. I always wished I had a seatbelt

Notice that parents have been penalized for many many yrs for seating issues and seat belts in their own personal vehicles but public schools and transportation dept haven't been held accountable for their safety when carrying alot of children in one large vehicle. It's amazing we haven't already had these solutions long long ago.

An 4 years later here in Pennsylvania in all grades elementary junior high and high School no buses still have seatbelts. At least that I know of

This is only half the problem. We need to crack down on the driver hours. In Wisconsin we do not record bus driver hours for routes or school related events. I know other states are doing this.

In VA we DONT have seatbelt on school buses and I ALMOST DIED
The problem is that school bus fires happen more often than major accidents like this that could cause injury to children, and having to make sure 65+ children are able to unstrap takes time away in the event of a fire, and a bus could be fully engulfed in under 2 minutes.

There is no scientific evidence that lives would be saved. School buses are not passenger vehicles. They are built to rely on structural safety and not on seat belts alone, and are designed and constructed differently from passenger cars. Lap belts could actually increase the risk of head injuries in a head-on collision (the most common type of bus collision). By holding the child’s pelvis firmly in place, the torso would whip forward; with the head striking the back of the seat in front of them with greater force than if the whole body had hit the seat. This could result in serious head and neck injuries.
Furthermore, the driver cannot ensure that every child has their seat belt on at all times during the travel; some buses can carry up to 70 children and trip durations of up to an hour. Young children should not be placed in a situation where they are responsible for their safety. You are more likely to be injured or killed outside of a school bus, than in one.

So what happens if the bus is wrecked and the driver is knocked out? If the seatbelts get stuck how will the kids get out? What if the bus is on fire? Idk. I’m torn about this.

In order for legislation to pass the bill to get school buses with seat belts it would cost at least 19 billion dollars for each and every individual School Bus

We don't roll until every kid, every time, every day has them on and on RIGHT. They are all trained over and over about emergency evacuations. I LOVE my kids in seat belts. I can see the back window because no one is in the aisle or at my elbow. I have less day to day incident reports, fights, ect. I have no monitor. At first it was a struggle but just like when they went mandatory in cars the generations grew up with them and just do it. I say 'buckle up" and go back to check... all done. Drivers out there with no experience with belts will be eating crow when they learn how much easier their route is (at least the ones who don't swear to quit if they become mandatory). We buy smoke detectors, practice evac drills, buy fire extinguishers for our homes and sleep better having those things in place. They say they love their kids. I can't imagine doing anything less.
I have driven a bus with these seat belts in it. One of my kids got stuck in it. I had to help her get out.

But if they added seatbelts, what would happen if the driver was out of commission and the bus was on fire? How would the young children get out?
