“Honey! Is this salty? No?Okay. We’ll check again tomorrow.”
lick sparkplug, toss back tequilla, bite lemon wedge! easy peasy
Tasty little tip there, Steve!😅
Yeah, I have no words, Steven!
Hey Steve
I recently bought myself a new Tohatsu 9.8 outboard. A nice little upgrade from my 1975 6hp Evinrude. (which I still love)
I live up in Canada and all of our gas is now at least E10.
My outboard motors only get about a month or 2 of use each year and I have been stressing about the issues this could potentially cause on my new motor. So much so that it has lead me down a youtube rabbit hole on how to separate ethanol from fuel. I don't really want to do this as my boating time each year is already limited. However, I don't want to have issue with my motor either.
My plan is to essential run the carb dry and drain it before long term storage.
I never use old gas. If I have some in my Jerry can before the season I will empty it out and use it as a fire starter. I am always filling up with the highest octane possible (usually Shell V power as its the closest to me).
A few questions for you.
I have always been told to run premium/highest octane available for small engines. Is this still the case even with E10 fuels?
I plan to add a stabilizer each time I fill up my outboard tank, Is there a specific one you would recommend? (there are so many to choose from)
Thanks
You made my day today 😊. Bought a 12 pack of Brava on my way home. Cheers
Fantastic!
I'm glad its the spark plug you got to lick and not the dip stick!
That gives new meaning to a salt lick...
Important Safety tip. Make sure the engine is off and the spark plug isn’t connected when you lick it! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
very informative. even though I don’t own a outdoor boat anymore it’s good to know these things. last boat motor I had it needed to much work when I got it and not really worth throwing money at it. thanks for sharing and stay safe out there brother 👍
Get your girlfriend to do it, if they spit it out the head gasket has gone 😂
Good to hear from Ya , Steve !
that's actually a good tip. also i just wanted to say,
Yesterday at work i had a customer with his clutch cover off his husky saw with the chain break on. and couldn't figure out how to undo it, or if it was broken. I showed him your UA-cam video, and then he went and found it on his phone to go home and fix his saw. So your vids Arnt only helping your subscribers, but also their customers.
Good stuff!
Steve, I love you my brother, the comment section is just too funny . Thanks for making my day!
Haven’t seem this but I’m thinking it is about blowing into the tube that leads to the pee hole to make sure it isn’t clogged with sand
LMAO Too too funny, I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Yep, I can see how that would work. Awesome Video Steve.
Thank You...
Excellent diagnoses, love the channel Steve
Thank You...
Great tip, Steve! Not really all that disgusting unless there's gas and/or oil there, too. Who hasn't gotten salt water in their mouth while swimming at the beach or even fishing in the sea or ocean? Dumping the spark plug water in a cleaned palm shouldn't transfer much but the salt water. Clean the spark plug threads and spark gap prong first if you see anything nasty there first, being careful not to disturb the water inside. I see your Title and statements more as a precaution to do this first.
I tried to keep my mind out of the gutter but I couldn’t help but laugh thinking how many times “just the tip” has been said.
Whew!! Doesn't apply to my outboard. Good to see ya, Steve!!
Steve, I have a 1953 Evinrude 15hp Fastwin 2 stroke and I would like to know why there is such large amount of advance at wot.
🤣😂 It's only 9am and I need a beer after watching this Steve.
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
after licking your plugs don't forget to dry them and check the GAP😂
When licking sparkplugs, I prefer a lager.
That is such a nasty but useful trick. I love it. My wife would die if she saw me licking a sparkplug
Lol a lovely idea Steve mate you remind me of Beldar Conehead from the film The Coneheads (1993) when he cleans the spark with his mouth too LMFAO.😂
Steve….. your a hoot!!!😂😂 I love and can relate!!!!! Keep it up Steveo!!!!!
Thank You...
We had a rough running issue with a six cylinder outboard & I ended up testing everyone of the plugs by putting them back in the spark plug leads & holding against the engine, then turning the engine over whilst stood waist deep in a river. Shocking is all I can say about that. 😂
Love it! Keep cuttin', Steve!!!
Always figured you for a palm licker 😂 😅😂😊 !!! Just kidding Steve. Entertaining to say the least. Cheers man and keep on keeping on.
Rock on!
After that you need a beer....even if it is only a PBR!
Hey, for a real kick, don't disconnect the plug lead before you lick it!
Tasting the salty spark plugs 😮😂
Steve, love the tip. What if my outboard is used only in freshwater lakes? What will my sparkplugs taste like if my head gasket is blown ? 🤣🤣
Like algae???? Maybe?
Put a borescope down the spark plug holes.
I enjoy your videos, I see Doug on you tube I though it was you, have a great weekend
The more I know! Thanks!
Don't salt your beer before you do.
Thanks Steve
You're Welcome...
Steve big fan I’ve looked at both stihls blower and chainsaw no winter 🥶 they do have a gap for all seasons I think
New subject to this video
I was Captain 🧑✈️ on airplane ✈️ and a leak was on the belly. We had Mechanics 🧰 and the Suits. Trying to decide what fluid was leaking. After chatting…. I took my finger a big swipe and put to my tongue 😛 the faces were priceless.
It wasn’t blue, hydraulic fluid will burn your tongue,Deicing fluid is sweet. And a definite taste of jet A
Don’t remember which it was but a fond memory. Your the REAL MCCOY
LOOK 👀 HIM UP
CHEERS 🍻
Gonna need multiple beers after a spark-plug-licking session!
Ill have my wife check it for me
Hey babe, would ya like my spark plug?
If you’re drinking Pabst the spark plug ain’t much worse. 😂
We were waiting for you to lick the tip… it’s just the tip… 😂
I'm sure it works, but I'll stick with a compression tester. (No bad after taste)
So yesterday I walk into a Value Pawn Shop in Seminole and the clerk asked me if "Small Engine Saloon" is a small engine repair shop. At the time I was wearing my "Steve's Small Engine Saloon" tee shirt. He probably assumed my name was Steve. Like they called me in Daytona Beach a few months ago. I did not correct him but did affirm that small engine saloon was a repair clinic. I asked him if he ever seen the Weather Tite Window commercial where the owner wants you to bring him a cookie if you show up at his showroom. The pawn shop clerk said he knows of the commercial. I said well with Steve's Small Engine Saloon, you bring in a beer. He laughed and asked does a lot of work get done, I told him yes, A lot of good information.
Ain't you been told before? "Just shut up and lick it!"
No hat, Steve? That is a first. Great tip by the way. Make sure you dont swallow.
🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 SteveO! Great brew selection. Cheers 🍻
And HOW did you discover this tip, Steve??
Fabulous
OMG Steve you are the best.
Thank You...
Good tip.
But as you’re NOT using a calibrated tool then the results may be less than satisfactory.
I mean, WHAT else is that “tool” being used for?
I like your tip.
I just checked...nope not April 1st.
Old school diagnosis for coolant loss in automotive engines... Smell exhaust, if it's sweet, coolant in exhaust 😂
Steve, you are funny I’ve known that for many years
Pabst Blue Ribbon - My first 6-Pack well, 5 before I got caught.
Salty lick the tip?? 😳sorry couldn't resist 😂😂😂👍
There is a joke on my place!! How to find a sea snake and a land snake??!! Catch it.., and lick!! If it is salty, it's a sea snake. If not, it's a land snake 😂😂😂😂
If you are landlocked, I wonder if running it in a tank (55 gal. drum) with food coloring added would give you a visual indication. When I was about 16, we got someone to buy us a couple of cases of PBR and we hid it in the woods near a friend's house. Turned out to be a bad investment, as some of it was pilfered and the last of it turned into skunk beer in the Southern heat.
Hey, whatever works, I'm just wondering who came up with this idea???
My girlfriend does that with my tip... perhaps oversharing a little too much
A tip on licking the tip. OK, that just happened.
Nice one Steve. Think I'll stick to dry land😅
It won't sink either 😊
@@Dukiehouse you are the 3rd today
Do what I say but… I’m not doing it! 😂🤣👍
I get my girlfriend to lick the tip and see if it tastes salty.
Okay, I'll rush right out there and do that.
Good TIP!
Thanks!
A little extra tip, after you lick the end of the salty plug and it seems unsavory to your taste, quickly eat a rew "SALTY" pretzels, then wash it all away with a ice cold PBR. AAHHH
Not as bad as I thought. I thought urine would be involved somehow.
I have heard woman say it's salty but I think they were talking about a blown cylinder on a man. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
O soooo many jokes on this one I don't know were to start .But good advice for some people. The only time we have any salt water in Mid Missouri is on the road after an ice strom lol. James out
Is this April 1st?
I'm not washing my hands for nobody. I'm fine with not knowing...
Nice haircut!!
That was the best! 😂😂😂😅😅😅
Steve😅😅😅✔️✔️✔️💯what can l say 😅😅😅👍🤠 from Melbourne AUSTRALIA 👍🤠
That's valuable info Steve. Problem is, I don't know if I should file it under "Blown Head Gasket" or under "Lick It" ? 👅😛
had an 01merc 2stroke. what a POS it was
Well I've never heard of that tip before
Right on
PBR ???...😝😁
LOL! ThinkI'll wait 'til I'm also checking my truck engine health by licking the tailpipe.
Interesting Steve. I have been boating my whole life and never heard this before now? I sent this video to my son who actually runs a marina here in CT. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say? 🤔🤔👍👍😂😂
Very cool!
What!? No hat?
multiple jokes here! lol
It’s a shiner bock day for me brother
Salty, that’s what she said
Happy licking Guys lol
i think I'd give litmus paper a try first. 😊
Another reason I don’t touch out boards 😂
It's better with a shot of tequila.
A compression test won't do it? I know nothing about boat engines.
Man oh Man, lol 👍🏻
Blown head gaskets and licking the tip...I cant take it.
Better have a cold beer ready after you licked the spark plug to rinse your mouth out.
I’d taste that spark plug , before I’d taste that Pabst … just saying..
On regular car engines this should work too, but the taste would be the sweet glycol taste, right? Less distinct than the salt though.
Also: I use taste to judge the condition of our aquarium... Not swallow, but get the taste and smell from the water. It is almost as if the taste buds and the nose are made for detecting chemicals :)
Yup, not going there.😂
