    Thank you, thank you, you made my life much easier when constructing rail lines. This seems to be the hardest problem in this great game.

    Thanks for this and all your other videos. I keep coming back to it. You are a great content creator!
    I see in your playthroughs you do more stuff to optimize the construction. I would really appreciate a full rail guide dumping most of what u know in a video or a textual guide.

    dont set any signals before getting a passenger/cargo train ready to go. construction vehicles dont get stuck (aka block removed by autoteleported to the office) if there is no semiphore present, pretty useful in the beginning.

      Very useful if you can isolate new constructions from the rest of your rail network!

    I did almost same pattern with the directional tracks until a few days. It is actually easier to build simple double tracks from station to station without using any diamond crossing. Connect the rail construction the same as any station with double tracks. Treat the complete part of the network wich you are currently building as a single block. As example I normally use a T-junction after the rail construction office und build the railway network to several stations using additional junctions. To my own suprise the rail construction office can use two track builder at the same time even when the rails are connected with junctions. On both tracks a track builder will run in both directions and since there are no diamonds crossing they are only on their own track and do not block each other. After finishing the connections to all stations add the diamonds crossing and semaphores. When finished you can continue building a new railway network the same way beginning from a station you did connect before. When updating an existing network I removed the semaphores start to build the double tracks and build the diamonds again as the last parts. I hope it is not too complicated to understand as text... it made my life much easier building the railway this way =) Now I only get a headache when trying to update an existing network with traffic on it at the same time... so far I have not found a satisfying solution and use a bypass to do it.
    In short: double track, both directions not using diamonds crossing until you have finished building a rail network from a station to station and then continue the same way afterwards from a before connected station is much easier.

    I just have to find courage to really tackle the trains... Now I rather play on ship-friendly maps, but trains gotta happen on larger scale sooner or later... very nice tutorial

    • @bballjo

      I'll see if there is something I can do... It's really mostly planning way ahead, but it's not impossible to build on existing rails:)

    • @DenDodde
      @DenDodde 4 роки тому +2

      It's really easy when you get used to it. On a normal 2 way track, you use mixed signals with the double arrow pointing to where you are building, and double way chain signals at crossings. Just make sure to have a couple of x crossings at regular intervals so that you don't stop everything for to long.

    Is very importante have a longtrain distance between in & out lines of rail, because the long trains later has stock in the middle of semaphores and make many problems.

    I really hoped you show how to construct the crossings yourself without blocking the construction vehicle.
    I often got the problem that I got a part where trains are already running, and I try to build a crossing for the new construction zone. I do a crossing from the right to the left lane, so that the construction vehicle can build both new tracks, and after that I place a left to right lane switch for it to return into the 'normal' flow, but once it is finished with the first crossing, It cant find its way home. It is stuck on the new part, since it is not intelligent enough to travel the left lane to the next signal and then turn to leave the area.
    Not sure If the explenation is understandable, so I try in ASCII
    _______________Left Track (Travel Direction: left)
    _______________Right Track (Travel Direction: right)
    add new construction zone, so that train can move from right to left, and after that one for left to right.
    _______________________
    __________/___\_________
    Train starts building new track. Completes right-to-left track
    Now It could drive to the end of the left track, turn around and travel to the RCO, but it is just stuck on the new constructed part.
    Any Ideas?

      I have the same issue...there are only 3 solutions that I know...1. build occasional crossings when you build the rail, so this isn't such a headache. 2. Reverse the signals until the first crossing is done, this requires a lot of baby sitting. 3. Allow yourself to autobuild the crossings, good for your sanity... personally I do 1 and 3 the most, 2 sometimes...

    • @TheBlackob
      @TheBlackob 4 роки тому

      @@bballjo currently, I use 3 the most, since 2 is, as you said, a lot of baby sitting, which i would like to avoid. 1 is also a good way, but sometimes these crossings are multiple sectors away from the construction making this partly into solution 2.

    What's the electricity's function in Grain storage and farm? Two types of buildings consume electricity but it already works without electricity.

    Why, they can't swith direction on any block and go another way like real trains, while then can do so in normal traffic. Is there any way to construct rail manualy without adding stupid turn loops everywhere? I made main line with freight line branching of and joining main tracks again after industrial zone. Construction office have entry near one of the junctions to freight tracks. They can acces only that junction and a bit of joint line leading to nowhere so far. So to get anywhere I have to end it with loop like in toy set? :/

    • @bballjo
      @bballjo  3 роки тому +1

      They can switch directions at any waypoint... waypoints can be stations, signals and waypoints, so you should be able to create a network that supports this.

      @@bballjo Strange. When I realised they can't just turn arround on end track and work in another direction, I added waypoint to it and construction office still says that any tracks not reachable in straigh line from it can't be assigned as they have no rail connection. Oh, i missed that in your original post. RCO trains are stupid and autonomous, and you cannot control them, they will only take a direct path to where they need to go.

      @@bballjo Figuered it out. Loop on far left did the job. Similar on far right will be needed too as it can't go through shed.
      Pathfinding to fueling station isn't much better as it can't see through loading stations, getting stuck between it and customs. Have to recall it to shed for every fueling.

    • @bballjo

    Are you using multiple train builders?
    I'm running a maximum of 2 track builders in the game. While the First track builder is in construction, the second track builder waits until the first builder's construction over. And the second builder take over the task. I'm tried to run track builders simultaneously but it's always messed up. Is there any better suggestion?

    • @bballjo

      Use directional track, and make sure that only 1 train can enter the point of no return for each construction site (single block), then add some diamond crossings in appropriate places
