- ➡️ OVERVIEW
Hi friends! Welcome to another luxury beauty industry discussion! In today's video, we will be talking about luxury fashion houses launching new fragrances and beauty brands. We have recently seen a LOT of this lately with the launch of Prada Beauty (and next Miu Miu Beauty and Celine Beauty...), the relaunch of Dolce & Gabbana Beauty, not to mention Hermes Beauty, Valentino and Rabanne Beauty. Are these all cash grabs?? Why are we suddenly seeing so many new brand launches??

A large part of me thinks that luxury makeup lines are what sunglasses used to be 20 years ago- a small piece of luxury that the average consumer can justify a splurge on every now and then. In the current economy, a $3000+ handbag is out of reach for many but a $45-50 lipstick isn't, especially if it's during the Sephora sale. As someone who has wanted all the makeup since I was a child in the 90s, bring on the new launches! I'll buy 50 makeup launches for every bag, and the bag is usually preloved- even though I know if I stopped buying all the makeup I could easily buy new bags. ETA: It wasn't fragrance for me, it was my first Chanel eyeshadow I bought in college in 2001 when I started working in a luxury mall. A single that I wore every day, a beautiful brown duochrome I think named Sphinx.
Chanel 'Sphinx' eyeshadow had a lovely green shift to it! I still own mine. My story is a lot like yours overall!😊👍🧡
Do you remember the Chanel Vega eye shade?
My favorite lipstick from Chanel was Vamp from the 90’s. It was so unique and had a cult following. Chanel needs to bring it back.
That's a super interesting point about sunglasses 😎
Yes exactly! Sunglasses are another category that are traditionally licensed out (usually to Luxotica) and I am guilty of that indulgence :)
When I think of "cash grabs" I think of the numerous celebrity launches, JLO, Brad Pitt, Scarlett Johansson...I cringe every time a new launch comes out. I welcome new makeup from the designer brands and think most of them are high quality like their fashion.
Totally agree!
💯
Good examples! Gah the Brad Pitt one was so bad. He literally said to Allure magazine that he didn't use skincare 😆
I have never cared about designer apparel and accessories, but I am obsessed with luxury beauty. Cash grab or not, I am loving the competition and variety. I love being able to be very thoughtful in my selections. And I want to see more and more.
I'm the same! I do wonder though if I had loads and loads of money if I'd feel the same, i.e. do my spending obsessions align themselves naturally with what's actually accessible to buy regularly? Certainly in high school I was obsessed with Revlon and the Estee Lauder counter was a place of luxurious mystery 😆
I think the luxury beauty brands do well because, although a $100 eyeshadow quad is expensive because you can find a good quad for 1/3 the price, it’s something that more people are willing to spend than $10,000 for a handbag. I’ll never do that, but I will appreciate the taste of Chanel or Dior I can more easily buy. Same with fragrance.
And…if a new luxury brand enters the beauty space and releases products as fantastic as Prada Beauty, I say BRING IT ON!
Yes exactly. A lot of people like to treat themselves to luxury and for most of us understandably so fragrance and beauty are the most affordable or accessible products for that
Love your input on the business side of things. Funny story: when I first started watching you, you said something about liking an Hermes lipstick. As one of your older viewers, I was outraged at the price. I had a $75 gift card from Saks, I think, and thought I would try it, fully prepared to come to the conclusion $75 for a LIPSTICK was outrageous. Unfortunately, it turned out to be probably my most favorite lipstick ever - so much so that when my color disappeared online, I started looking around to source a backup.
Hahaha omg what color did you get?? My fave is Rose Indien
Of course it is. Just like every celebrity launching makeup/fragrance/ skincare 🙄
I think on both sides there are some brands that are well launched and others that were rushed to make money
I appreciate at how well-researched and put together this video is and it’s fun! Thank you! ☺️
You are so welcome! Thanks for the feedback!
I’m a person not into packaging, it doesn’t turn my head. I’ve purchased from every brand but the strike rate is better in more expensive brands. I want great quality and novel colour ways. I’m not an aspirational purchaser, I’m practical. I’ve never wanted to buy clothing, shoes and handbags from fashion houses but I like good make up and if fashion houses have the money to make good products I’ll buy them regardless of the name.
In Australia, we have to order many brands from overseas as they aren’t stocked in shops, so we never really know what things are like until they arrive on our doorstep. That’s why your channel is so fantastic, I get to check out your purchases and enjoy your upfront and honest opinions. Happy Easter 🐣
Thanks for sharing your experience! And thanks for the feedback as well!
Competition is good but flooding the market is overwhelming for the customer.
I think it's been flooded for a long time however. Some of these brands will die off as some perform well and some don't
All I know is my Prada makeup purchases show up as charges to Loreal. 😉
Haha yes they are licensed to Loreal :)
I use luxury makeup because it truly is better than other brands, at least in my limited experience. I would rather spend the money and have a few makeup items that I adore and use up than to have a bunch of so-so stuff.
I like what you said about some of the other luxury items are things some people aspire to. I aspire to own just one perfect piece of Chanel beige gold jewelry someday!❤
Yes I feel the same way!
More options in luxury beauty can never be a bad thing. And with Sofia’s trusted reviews, I feel pretty confident I’ll be buying only the items I’ll really love! 😊
Haha yay! ;)
Sofia. I agree with you about how out of control the prices are getting. That said some of these brands, like Prada and Hermes, have great performance which makes you tempted despite price. I also hope that some of these houses like D&G prices are bit more affordable 🤔 and again if good, I think will be successful hopefully.
I don’t think it’s a cash grab if the products are good. It will be great if more houses step up as it may bring some great new things.
And I hope it will press the ones who have been around, like Chanel and Dior, try a bit harder to get our dollars. At least I can hope.
Great insights!
If you go to Europe, brands like Paco Rabanne are so popular. I find it so interesting what we kind of turn an eye from, is so popular in UK and Europe.
I live in Europe and tbh Paco Rabanne is a bit naff.
Thank you for sharing!
I agree that this new launches are good for the competition reasons. As you said, quality is going down and prices are going up, it is good to bring new products with good quality just to make the big guys loose part of the market and maybe reconsider their strategies.
I think similar happened to the bags, LV (and the rest of LVMH group) used to have 3-4 price increases per year in the period of 2020-2022, last year and this year they became very quiet and prices are mostly the same or were increased once. I think people had enough of their greed (and very bad quality) and turned more to other brands like The Row, Loro Piana, Ferragamo, Prada, Miu Miu...
Good point!
They are owned by conglomerates. I don’t look at them as real individual brands. And for a generation that can’t afford homes this is where the $$$ goes. Sidebar. Celine fragrances are amazing. I’m a perfume collector and I think they are among the best designer perfumes.
Thank you for that rec! And thanks for all of your thoughts on these points
The launch of overly expensive items - like limited edition $500 lipsticks and $1000 perfume bottles - isn’t a “new” strategy for brands though. That’s been happening for decades. It may seem new now, but that’s because each generation has to experience it for themselves. Anyone who is in their 30’s now (when they start paying attention to what aspirational items they can buy) wasn’t aware of those same things happening back in the 70’s-00’s. The bigger changes in the beauty industry are harder for individuals to see because we haven’t lived long enough 😂
👏👏👏
I have a lot of thoughts on your video. I’m getting to be over Chanel and Dior makeup because of their current launches. Dior’s makeup formula and packaging is going down in quality for each launch. I can get the same quality liquid blush and skin filter from Rare Beauty for half the price. Chanel is releasing the same eyeshadow, bronzer, and blush colors in cheep packaging. When they do come out with something innovative it’s limited edition, and before I can really think about spending the money it’s sold out. I feel this is a cash grab. I have never tried Tom Ford’s makeup and I don’t think I will. If he’s going to release the same color makeup in different packaging over and over again and increase the price I’m not buying. I just ordered the Dolce and Gabbana bronzer and blush, I’m excited for this launch! I really hope it will work for my extremely dry mature skin.
That's true but the difference is that back then the consumer who usually buys a $50 item probably would know about it. Those products were marketed to the consumers who came into the boutiques and not at Macy's. Because we live in this digital age, luxury seems more ubiquitous and we hear about products all over social media
@@SofiaSeesBeauty I almost came back to my original comment to say something similar! I agree that the instant availability of marketing and influencing (what used to be limited to ‘word of mouth’) makes it a different situation. We also now get to see people acquire these items, whereas if you didn’t run in rich circles back then, that only happened in the movies. I would love to know whether there’s been any increase in the ROI of this strategy over the decades and what are the factors at play. These are complicated, multi-factorial questions that market research companies dissect, but a mere mortal like me can only speculate about. 🧐 (at least I now can with ppl who I only see on my screen :))
@@SofiaSeesBeauty I can see your point. I think it bothers me because I live in a state that has two luxury boutiques and it takes over an hour to get them.
Always learning from you. Love your commentary and perspective!
Glad to hear!
Fascinating ❤
Thanks for this type of videos. I think it’s great! Keep up these informational videos 💕
Thank you for your feedback!!
I really enjoy your review on luxury brands. It is a brilliant idea!
Thank you for your feedback!
Paco Raban eye shadows are incredible.
I didn't care for them! Maybe I will try a different palette
Great content. Thank you!
Thanks!
Hi Sofia,
Happy Easter!🙂
From my point of view cash grab are most of the skincare/makeup celebrity brands.
When I started to use makeup I bought it from Dior, Chanel, Guerlain, Tom Ford (later), Estee Lauder foundation, then La Prairie foundation. These days I still buy Chanel and Dior makeup but much less because of the decrease in quality.
I don’t mind if more fashion brands will go into makeup as long as they will come with very good products. I think more competition is necessary and beneficial for as, the customers, and will force the luxury brands to improve the quality in order to be relevant and profitable. So I will not consider a cash grab as long as their makeup line is high quality and innovative.
Thanks for sharing!🙂
P.S. I don’t know why but I don’t get notifications when you post a new video.🤔
Yes I feel the same way. I think some (not all) of the celebrity brands are the ones that feel kind of phony and unnecessary to me. Not every celebrity is one that I need makeup advice from
I love the Hermes Beauty collection. The packaging is special and fun and the products I’ve tried are great.
I love these types of videos. You presented everything so well. I agree it may bring more friendly competition to the industry and maybe we will continue to see more innovation and more exciting packaging as well.
Thanks for your feedback!
Your eyelashes, Girl! Beautiful.
Thanks!
Hello Sofia. My opinion. I am a Dior/Chanel lover!! But I have to admit their quality has gone down while the prices have gone up. Heir removing of talc is like I have to work more at applying them and not getting the same looks as before. Sad!!! XO. 😊
Don’t buy them any more… that is what I have done
Thank you for sharing Gloria!
And I’m supporting indie brands not owned by private equity
Sofia you had some great knowledge today and I found this video very informative and interesting. Very enjoyable. Thanks ✨💖💄👄✨
I'm so glad!
I like the Prada foundation.
My ears perked up at “overpriced” components. I think the experience and the aspiration is truly all a luxury brand has to offer. This is as true of the clothing, the accessories, the fragrance as it is of the makeup.
Yes for sure the quality only goes so far. A local artisan, if you can find one, could make the product at a much lower cost
Well researched video, brilliant, thank you. I'm a sucker for beautiful packaging, to be honest, of course, as long as products are good. Otherwise, I never repurchase. Take Care. Gill 🇬🇧 xoxo
Found your analysis very interesting and agree with your point of view! Although, in-house branding is definitely more difficult and demanding, it somehow gives the impression of authenticity, genuineness and originality of the genesis of the product. Of course the goal is profit but as long as the above values are not affected, I think any strategy is not considered as "cash-grab" 😊
Yes I think also that in today's world, authenticity and the brand story is becoming more important than ever. So if they can take it in-house and do it well then it can pay off
Gucci Rush was my jam
Great video Sophia! Thanks for your hard work❤ I reallly love this series! It's too bad that some of these newer luxury makeup launches (Prada, Dolce and Gabbana) are not available in Canada. I keep hoping they will launch at Holt Renfrew but so far nothing. Wish i could try a Prada lipstick!
That is too bad! I didn't realize so many of the collections were not launching in Canada. Why do you think that is??
@@SofiaSeesBeauty I have no idea. It's strange really because I think there is a market for it here, especially as Hermes makeup has done well! But even when D&G had their old makeup line years ago it was only offered in the USA🤷🏼♀️ If you ever hear anything, please let us know! I'm sure I'm not the only Canadian wondering what's up with this
So excited to watch this -- can I say: where in the world is a current VERSACE BEAUTY?
SWAROVSKI Beauty
BALMAIN Beauty
MOSCHINO Beauty
Fragrance in high school? I was rocking the Cucumber Melon body splash back in the day.
I had that one too 👍
I must say, I just received my first Guerlain order yesterday and I’m obsessed!! I ordered the meteorites and Ombré G eyeshadow palette. They’re fantastic
Omg!! I LOVE guerlain :)
@@SofiaSeesBeauty me too! Thx so much for the introduction to the beautiful meteorites and Ombré G palette
I entered the luxury makeup world when the prices of those products were between 30 and 40 euros. Later I tried to find the products in sales, but now even this is hard for the luxury products. So, I actually started to back out from this makeup level. There are very nice middle level brands and products. The only category I have problem with is the foundations. It is hard to find good foundation even amongst the luxury ones and I haven´t been successful with the drugstore foundations. But I am motivated to keep looking for them. Even when I have the money, it´s just hard to justify. I´ve recently got my first luxury sunglasses and I regret it. They were quite cheap for luxury glasses (390,- euro), but I don´t see big difference in comparison to my 7 - 12 euros sunglasses collection. And I really do not appreciate an enormous logo on their sides.
6:01 my mom is a parfum girlie & purchased me a gift set for Christmas! It smells so good; it has luxe packaging imo (but the bottle is big…it’s a display bottle) & not for your purse. Overall, it has longevity & the lotion smells great too.
Even Fendi getting into the mix! Lol
Intrresting: From 2016-2021, Shiseido held control over the D&G Beauty licenses, but when they expired, the Italian fashion house decided to take the brand in-house.
Also, I bought Dior Sauvage for myself
Personally, I’m happy about the added competition in the luxury beauty space. I’d love to see better packaging and more interesting colors/formulas across brands. I’m relatively new to buying designer makeup, but I’ve been mostly disappointed by Chanel and TF regarding their packaging, but happier with Dior and Guerlain. I don’t see it as a cash grab because of all the up front investment and I think they’ll stick around for a while (unlike many of the celebrity brands already closing up shop or selling out to conglomerates).
Thank you for sharing Whitney!
I am loving Hermes Beauty! Bring it on 😎❤️
Me too!!
I don’t mind traditional Fashion Houses launching beauty as long they have their idea and interpretation of beauty… an identity. My issue is department stores may not have enough space offering testers for demo since the prices are so high. I like the tangible experience of the products on my skin and package that gives me I am holding a luxurious jewelry. So lack of access to testers need also more virtual try on on company websites since the actual colors tend to be different appears in publications/ brochures.
Yes I agree with you. While many sales are online now, distribution is very key to the success of a brand. When Prada Beauty first launched, I could tell it was very frustrating for my subscribers that they weren't in store. The products are very expensive but there was nowhere to get a foundation match or check out the packaging
Cash grabs: Celebrity brands when it's clear the celebrity has little to no input or knowledge of what they're selling and probably overpriced products they don't even use themselves.
True!
And what about the celebrities?? 😱
Interesting video ❤
Haha those are a different story ;) maybe another video??
High School perfumes: Tommy Girl and I remember every guy wearing Calvin Klein Eternity 😂
I agree with you, bring on the competition, it’s fun! Can’t wait to try Prada makeup once it comes to Canada :)
Haha nice! I remember Tommy Girl
I have a lot of thoughts on your video. I’m getting to be over Chanel and Dior makeup because of their current launches. Dior’s makeup formula and packaging is going down in quality for each launch. Thank you for sharing Meg! I do wish that with the bigger brands, they would stop the annoying out of stocks and only releasing a few units at time to make the product seem scarce
Interesting topic, thank you for your input! A bit confused by the first part in regards to entering the beauty industry through fragrance, because Bottega Veneta and Alexander McQueen have had fragrances on the market for many years, so is it that they're launching new fragrances?
They are launching them in house
@@SofiaSeesBeauty ohh ok now I understand! Thank you for your reply!
I have never been a Paco rabanne fan but that changed when I purchased Fame. I was shocked at how good it smells and the amount of comments that I get are crazy...rivals Kilian and TF. Give it a try
Great rec!
Please don't forget Dries Van Noten. Yes, there are too many cosmetics brands and I blame the bankers.
Yes they are a Puig brand also!
Arpege! Oh my….so many years ago! 😂
Donna Karen Cashmere in JH. ❤
I saw the new Rabanne makeup in Ulta-the eyeshadows are amazing! I bought three of the duos and they are just gorgeous. Fragile though.
Paco rabbane fragrances are amazing and I buy them all for my husband and I bought the new one they launched for women. I also bought several paco rabbane eyeshadows.
Thank you for the rec! They must be good because they are SO popular
I’ve got a few years on you and Paco Rabanne fragrances were basically a joke for a lot of years (and we’re talking the same frags they have now). There was definitely a stereotype attached, picture it one step above the Axe guy. I have Balenciaga’s fragrance here from maybe a decade ago and it’s stunning-bottle to juice. Probably a bit ahead of its time, though.
Rabanne scents are considered bogan on a date night in Australia.
Hahaha thanks for sharing
I was hearing from another comment that a lot of these fragrances are popular with the younger generation. Very interesting
I think Loreal and Estee Lauder own the world!😂 Miu miu will probably make cute makeup!
I think they will! So girly!
I'm loving the new D&G blushes and bronzer and I will end up getting more shades along with the mascara after seeing your review.
I always buy Sauvage for my hubby.
I always collect a bunch of those jumbo sauvage samples from the Dior site for my brother in law lol
Minnie cameo! I’m enjoying new makeup branches of the luxury fashion houses that seem well thought out, like Hermes, Prada, and D&G. I’m looking forward to Gucci taking theirs in house since I haven’t been impressed by anything they’ve released yet
You spotted her! ;)
I must be one of your older subscribers because I’m no longer interested in Tom Ford, Dior or Chanel. I really like the aesthetic of Hermes beauty even though it is expensive. The year’s Byredo was an exception for me. I love it. I was priced out of LV a few years ago. I really like the Cuyana bag brand. Another GREAT video Sofia! I’m excitedly waiting for your luxury fair skin bronzer video. I’m holding off on buying one until then.
I meant Byredo’s large eye palette
That palette is beautiful
Thanks for sharing Tammy! I thrive off of your feedback. So glad you liked the video and yes I agree Cuyana makes great products. I have a few of their items from when they first launched
When I think of Hermès, I can’t help but think of my two dressage saddles 😂 My horses wear “designer brands”. Seriously, I agree with everything you had to say about how economics and customer demographics play into the decision to launch a luxury brand and I, too, welcome the competition. Dior, Chanel, and Tom Ford are lagging behind.
I didn't know you did dressage Eileen!
Hi! great video, love your channel so much! just wanted to let you know "puig" is pronounced "puch".. 😊
Oh interesting, I looked up the pronunciation but it must have been incorrect or maybe outside of Cataluna some people are saying it differently 😅
@@SofiaSeesBeauty I'm from Spain, it's pronounced the same outside Cataluna.
Olympia is great
This is an exciting topic. Like most who have commented already, I see the 'cash grab' piece of this coming from the creator/influencer/celebrity side of the beauty industry. As someone whose mother worked in luxury beauty for over 30 years, I feel like I've seen it all, and I tend to be very diligent about the purchases I make because we all work hard for paychecks! My mantra for beauty purchases this year is to use something up and buy another. I really want the new Prada foundation, but I have three other foundations/tints I'm working through before I purchase. I have not bought any Tom Ford lately; the $90 sticker price on those quads is a bit outrageous and cash grabby to me.
Yes I think a lot of times people see a creator buying the product and then there's a perception that they should purchase it when it's not realistic for one person to finish up 10 foundations
Hello Sofia, Do you have a PHD in Marketing cause your analysis is so smart ? Love from Paris/France 🥰
Aw thanks so much! I do have a degree in marketing :)
TOMMY GIRL 🤣🤣🤣 omg high school 🤍🤍🤍
Yessss ;)
Me too!
Yes, but $900 10 years ago is $1800 today
Yes and no. I would expect to see an increase for sure but not a 100% increase in just a few years. We haven't seen a doubling of wages
I’m excited to see Prada and Dolce and Gabana give brands like Chanel a run for their money they have been sliding way to long 😅 not Dior I still really love Dior 😅🥰
Haha I love Dior also :) Just tired of reformulations!
i enjoy your videos so much more now that you are more zoomed in.
Thanks for the feedback. I almost always film makeup applications directly in front of the camera
Dolce Gabana has beauty products but it didn’t come to Us. I always fascinated by their packaging, especially those have patterns on it more than the products, though I heard the products are good as well. I don’t think it’s cash grab, it’s making profit, the products are good and have some advantages over less expensive one, so seems justifiable 😊
Thank you for sharing Parivash!
While I always welcome competition (yes, I am a capitalist); for me, it’s not really competition until they have a “department store counter”! And while Sephora has picked up many of these brands, their testers always look like a Petri dish 🧫
I am older and kinda old school and just maybe part of a dying generation?
Distribution plays a big role. Estee Lauder for example was very against moving into Sephora and Ulta and this hurt their brand a lot
Luxury fashion brands can enter the beauty space, but the question is if they’ll be able to stay, only time will show 🤷🏼♀️ they might prove to be some passing by cash grabs, or offer their clientele a total look of qualitative fashion pieces , fragrances and beauty creations.
It is always a cash grab. Why else sell items if not to obtain profit. Most people aren't buying their clothes or bags so there is a clear limit to your growth and customer base
Of course but cash grab is not the same as selling for a profit. Every single company sells goods to make money, the question is whether or not there is longevity and relevance to the product offering
I love the idea of this video!
Gucci’s bronzers and lip products are amazing but they are seriously lacking in eye products. I’d love to see higher quality from them with quads instead of those silly giant palettes that are way overpriced.
I can’t wear Prada’s foundation because they use a chemical SPF but I’ve been SUPER happy with their eyeshadows and lip products!
Hermes beauty is still just too much for me. I want their lippies but come on, $79? Their eyeshadow palettes are also way too much for me but I love seeing them on other people!
I like the idea of brands going in-house! Put as much thought and care into your makeup and skincare as you do into your bags and fashion - I think people will appreciate it! ❤❤❤
Bags and fashion are good quality? At the prices charged currently? I think Chanel and Dior can pick up the quality all round.
@@kateaye3506Literally never used the words “good quality” but your hostility is noted.
@@tracymcarlson Oh shoot. I thought I was responding to a different post. Forgive me. It was 5am when I posted that. I am really sorry. 😩
@@kateaye3506 Girl, NO problem. We’ve all done it! Hugs to you ❤️
@@tracymcarlson Thank you. 😊 Now I am wondering who I was replying to. *gulp*
Paco Rabanne fragrances smell lovely, however, I can’t get past the hideously gaudy packaging so I will never buy them no matter how much I enjoy the smell.
Well D&G can probably all be made in labs jn Italy
Christos Anesti!
Alithos Anesti! Thank you my friend
While I do find luxury products intriguing, the only products from them I can afford are makeup and sometimes fragrances. It’s hard (for me) to imagine being a person that actually buys other luxury goods like clothing and bags because that’s just not my life. lol. Single mom, low income, surviving not thriving. But I do enjoy my little luxuries from Chanel or Dior…blush, foundation, whatever.
Yes I think this is most people. Which is why those products exist. Thank you for sharing Kylee!
D&G had a makeup line many moons ago, if I remember correctly. I think Pat McGrath is the creative designer. I guess it’s back to old roots.
Was it before the Shiseido deal? I remember that line but I'll have to look into it
The prices are on hand too much, I shouldn’t buy it but especially brands like Hermes and Prada who really delivered the full package (good quality, good packaging, true to brand) are hard to resist. So I’m looking forward to more brands doing a great job and then it is okay if they earn their profit 😊
Not to
Mention the turn into “clean beauty” which it is only a marketing strategy to
make make up less long lasting and let me something a more wasteful society… who in this earth will buy a pallet for £100
To through it away in a year or two????
Most make up has always been made to last and lasting has always been a sign of quality… less keep it that way…. To this day (and I am 50) I have only finish 2 palettes… and I will be dam if I ever through i palette just because it is years old… I have paleta that I bought in my 30s working, smelling and performing as the first day and that is the way it should be.
In make up sale by date is not expiring date…. Is the day by when retailers should sale by… so they make space for the new, coming collections.
I have yet to have any make up including cream or liquid going bad … and many of those tend to last me for years (as mentioned before)
I will never buy in into a new trend of wasteful consumer s crap
yes it takes so long to finish up the products it doesn't make sense to produce something that will go bad in 6 months
When I see price increases it just makes me more selective on what does excite me and will add value to what I have.
I think Prada’s done great so far with their releases and so has Hermes. Gucci hit & miss. Will be interesting to see what comes out by brands in the future.
I love when there are fewer releases but ones done well.
More and more, brands are realizing how much the packaging influences our overall experience of a product. They’re their own accessory.
And Charlotte is owned by Puig
Yup! I mentioned that :)
Gucci eyeshadow pallet. I’ve been looking at this same pallet for a year! I’m a sucker for packaging so I wish I could justify this pallet but I cannot. Tiny pans, quality not great. CASH GRAB. Gucci is going broke? NOT! GREED! Gucci DEFINITELY needs to dump Cody. Cover girl seriously? That makes me wonder if I’m buying Covergirl quality at Gucci prices? Not exactly impressive.
I think they would do better in house
For the same amount of money I’d rather go for Cle de Peau. The quality is a lot better
I think Cle de Peau is kind of like the Hermes of beauty. As the prices increase on other brands, it make sense to perhaps switch to a brand like this because they do in many cases make a higher quality product
I dont really care about the brand, either new or established or even the packaging as long as the product is worth the price. I spend $90 on the Chantecaille future skin foundation because I have yet to find anything else that is as lightweight and non greasy on my very oily skin. But I won't spend even a dollar on dry, patchy eyeshadow just because it has a luxury brand logo on it. For me, the quality has to be there or it's not going in my collection.
That makes the most logical sense but there are so many people who like a product without realizing that a big part of it is the fantasy and feeling of owning something from that brand. As beauty lovers, we pay attention to other product recommendations and our choices are much more informed for sure
Calvin Klein Obsession was a gift on my 21st birthday and I wore it to death.
That was a big one!
To me, brands like Chantecaille are guilty too. Chanel makeup was expensive but as soon as Chantecaille released product at incredible prices, Chanel had to raised their prices in order to stay in the luxury category.
Chantecaille packaging is so sub par. Lipstick tubes are flimsy $1.50 bits, the eyeshadows are ok but the applicators are useless and the tubes they use for liquids are nasty.
Chantecaille was lost when the family sold to private equitu
D&G looks like Juicy Couture packaging from 2000s I don’t see any luxury, sorry. Also I would never consider as luxury brand Prada who produces Nylon bags in China 😂 I will add also Valentino and Gucci, it’s fashion brands and not luxury so shouldn’t charge that much for products.
Really? The packaging is so simple and sleek! When I think of Juicy Couture I think lots of embellishment and maybe a little bit juvenile style
Well… Gucci Chanel Dior the prices increases have been ridiculously increasing with no real increase in quality … actually people are waking up agains this luxury stupidity … you are right just selling to the 5%… while the is no real quality in what they offer any more
So I say they are going into
Make and fragrances to let us (working class )still making them their multi billion profits So I said let them sale the makeup and fragrances to those 5% too
I say to cancel them out the same way they are doing to us too.
Yes the quality is staying relatively the same. I think this is why Hermes is doing we well. Because a lot of luxury consumers are thinking well, if I am going to spend that much, I might as well get something hand made
Agreed!
I avoid D& G because they themselves are super problematic and cringe in their opinions. They are the Jeffrey star of luxury IMO. Like, one example that isn’t too much of a litmus test is they called Selena Gomez ugly, which was just mean and immature.
I went to an all girls boarding school, and i would buy cologne from Abercrombie and fitch for my bedding, haha! Oh I am tickled remembering that. Also, cK1 was like a cult, haha!
Omg yes CK1 ❤…. Oh now you have me thinking about Gucci/covergirl 😅
And here is something you didn’t raise. These lines banked (sadly) on Chinese consumers. Bad on them!
Yes true! It was the same for Estee Lauder and a lot of beauty brands
Jean Paul G has become extremely important in the world of teen boys who are cologne obsessed these days 😝 (all bc of tic tock)
This demographic are worse than the Sephora 10yo rampages. 😂 They blow up the stores with their bottle hopping and spraying. 😂😂
Kind of nice to see them actually care about their grooming. Long gone are the Brut spray days of the 80s.
No way! I had no idea haha. That is so funny how these brands are reaching out to that teenage demo. I guess it worked on me back in the day too
@@SofiaSeesBeauty I have a 5th grade boy it’s a whole different universe 😆!
and the products are junk too.
Luxury brands can increase $$$ b/c China is their biggest customers. They'll $$$ for it. Yhstsy why were priced out 😢
Unfortunately however that market is now seeing stagnant growth. Most of the growth is coming from the middle east and some newer markets like south america. They definitely increase the prices because they can :(
Chanel chance, eyeshadow palette in Tisse Vendome and a tweed blush were the first three luxury products after I got my first job and paid off my student loans sometime in 2012-13. I am an immigrant, I still think had I not moved to the US I would have never been able to ever own even one piece of luxury in my 20s. I have been planning to buy a luxury bag for a decade now, but when I think I saved enough, the needle moves again. I decided to not buy anything other than luxury makeup and invest what I saved for a bag in stock market.
Yes I think lot of people are in that camp too! It's hard to save up for the item if the price keeps climbing :(
@@SofiaSeesBeauty it is very frustrating. I just will live my luxury dream vicariously through make up lol.
This prob won’t be very popular…but I’m just glad brands like Prada, Gucci, Rabanne, and D&G have artistic looking packaging. I feel like Dior and everything Chanel is so plain that it’s ugly. There’s classic looking and then there’s just, no imagination. And other than Dior perfume bottles, I’m sure a six year old could create better packaging. And I’m thankful, because if they looked artistic in any way, I’d probably buy it. But I have to love packaging to buy something that’s expensive.
I agree! I like fashion and branding and it's fun to see other styles out there
