  • The dominant yet simple style of Gordon Ryans Jiu Jitsu is on display every time he competes. The way he dismantles his opponents with such control while making it look almost effortless is on a whole 'nother level. In his last couple of matches I’ve noticed him applying one of these simple yet effective techniques that I hadn’t really seen him or many other Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athletes do before, well that is, at least not from the top position.

Hope to see it used in different situations cause he only used the half Nelson when the opponents were already controlled. Great to see the evolution of the sport!

I love your videos! Always so knowledgeable and amazing editing. Lets see if he uses this move on sunday against felipe pena. Very interesting about using this move to keep your opponent flat on their backs . 🧐 cant wait for more videos! Keep it up 🙌🏻

Thanks for the video. Gordon used the half nelson in couch and marinho matches because he wanted to stay on the mount position, to execute the submission he predicted. But in a classical jiujitsu match, if the opponent gives his back, you take the back. You dont really need tge half nelson unless you want to stay on the mount position.

Yup exactly. Curious to see if he is able to bully Peña the way he did Couch and Marinho.

True but Gordon did cause a lot of fatigue in his opponents using this technique so it can be useful

I’ve been experimenting with the stockade & Nelsons for a while. It’s nice to see how to apply it better for the highest lvl of grappling :)

Ive been hitting the sugar hold- neck and diaphragm compression from the stockade position a lot. In side control stockade Post your hand in front of their elbow not shoulder and they cant get out then start walking to that side. It seems to be really effective and no one sees it coming.

Cool! Watching Gordon do the nelsons, it’s made me interested in the move. Never used it before but after trying it myself i find it super effective.

This technique - ironically enough - was released with the first Gracie master cycle mount control videos loooooong ago. If you ever wonder where 80% of Gordon’s techniques come from it’s probably from the Gracie’s given Danaher’s upbringing.

Let’s be honest strength and conditioning is we’re Gordon has the biggest skill disparity with the others He can outwork any pro with energy to spare.

So in a nutshell gorden is using "wrestling" not bjj to dominate his openents.
