When they become more mainstream more condos/apartments will install them. Then again, I kinda thought that builders would increase garage sizes to accommodate the number of pick ups and large SUVs being purchased. I don't think that's happened yet.

@@iks4071 Not since a custom show truck I had in the early 80s have I had a ride that I park, walk away...turn and look back at. The Stinger does that for me.
Former Stinger owner here. Current Lexus owner. One of the biggest issues for Kia is their dealer network. We found a decent dealer in Salt Lake and got a good deal on the 2018 GT2. After selling it for a Telluride, we’ve been thinking about buying a new one as it was an awesome car. The dealers in Phoenix and Vegas are the epitome of the slimeball stereotype. Huge markups, plus $3000 in “mandatory value added protection plans… for YOUR benefit!”
So you'd rather a dealer's profit be hidden from you by leaving thousands between MSRP and invoice than their profit being disclosed to you upfront? Mass market brands don't have the 8k in profit built into their MSRP.
Sports car will be nothing more than a nostalgic memory if this trend keeps up. Why are y'all so obsessed with crossovers and SUVs? Only Americans have that "bigger is better" mentality, and it has completely ruined the car market in the US.
Agreed. I used to own an SUV back when the kids were younger and I had to carry all their stuff around for sports. But once they got older I went right back to a car, a Q50 and now drive a Golf R and have no plans on ever owning a suv again :)
If true, it's a sad though understandable decision. I was hopeful that the significantly improved GT-Line with the new 2.5L turbo and vastly better performance than the 2.0L 4 it had shared with the (still not updated) G70 would boost overall dismal sales. With the new engine, the GT-Lines 0-60 time was only about half a second slower than the twin turbo V6 trim levels. Combined with a significant weight savings and a bargain MSRP ($40,590 for a fully loaded AWD version) I'd hoped it would help the dismal to mediocre sales throughout the Stinger's life. In some ways I think the Stinger has been cursed since its introduction. Initial reviews were extremely positive but KIA dealers were obviously unprepared to sell a sedan with an MSRP that approached $50,000 or more. It's worth noting that the introduction of the Stinger preceded the Telluride where sticker shock proved not to be an obstacle. But the Stinger was a true GT in the European tradition and few KIA salespeople even understood that or were prepared to sell such a vehicle. (The same was true of the Cadenza and the K900) . Further, I think the Stinger's name compounded the problem. Rather than evoking the image of a European GT sedan, it made it seem a rival to a Dodge Charger or Challenger, American muscle cars with V8 engine options that shared little with the Stinger as a "Grand Touring" GT. Furthermore, Americans have little experience with "GTs" in the European tradition. Even the trim designations of GT-Line, GT1, and GT2 were more likely to evoke images of the Mustang than a vehicle designed to carry 4-5 passengers comfortably at high speeds for hours in the manner of a European GT. In any event it's not surprising to see the sun setting on the Stinger though I'd hoped it would last for at least another couple of years. KIA obviously believes the future of their high performance vehicles, at least in the US, lies in the K6 portfolio and I think they're right. One sign of that trend is that last month the Mustang Mach-E outsold all other Mustang models put together for the first time. And that's before the high performance version of the Mach-E is even available.
I think partly the reason the Stinger lost sales was because it was out of the price range of most people. Also, people don’t associate Kia with expensive sport sedans. Maybe Kia should create a luxury/sport vehicle division just like Hyundai created Genesis.
Phenomenal car for the money. I bought my GT2 last year and added a simple jb4 bolt on kit for $1,000 adding a hundred extra horsepower and torque. There's no better feeling than seeing the silly Expressions on Mustang and Challenger owners faces while they're going to gapplebees.
The Kia Stinger GT is an awesome deal for a man/woman who had a coupe before but now has a child. It is the perfect starter family car for those who needs practicality but still wants to enjoy the thrill of a sports car. For a sedan that can do 0-60 in 4.4sec and can be had for under $40k(base GT models before 2022) it is a steal. For those saying the Stinger is expensive, name a sedan that can do 0-60 in 4.4 for under $40K new? I can only see the Charger scatpack as something that can come close.

@@alh06 Talking more from a price standpoint. The person in the same shopping area as the stinger has a lot of competition to choose from, Tesla being one of the biggest options currently, but also BMW and Mercedes. As a Stinger owner (2022 model), and I think others would agree, I feel like I have something that people don't know about...I've had the car for about a month now and I'm regularly asked what car it is and immediately followed with complete disbelief. It really is too bad that this car did not get the general public recognition that it deserves...all reviewers rave over it (rightfully so). I think the failure here was in Kia's marketing. I can honestly say that I've never once seen an ad for this car on TV. The only time I say ads for it online is when I was retargeted with ads because I was researching on it. The market didn't fail this car, Kia's MARKETING department did. I'm personally happy that they are stopping production. I can see this car being sought after in the future...confident the resale value will be strong especially with the 22 models having the rebadge.
Has there been an actual statement from Kia about this? I have a Stinger and was in for service recently to the largest dealership here. I know the manager and we chatted a bit and he indicated that there was no word from corporate about the car being discontinued. He heard there is another planned refresh being planned as well.
no actual word, but the stinger plant will be converted to EV production in Q3 of 2022, so it's likely discontinued. it does appear that an EV version of stinger is in the works.
Had a 2.0 Stinger and wanted to upgrade to a GT. Wanted over 700 a month for the lease. Ended up going Alfa Romeo getting a Giulia TI Sport, fully loaded, for under 500 a month. Markup is too high on the Stingers. That's their downfall.
And they already cancelled the Cadenza and K900 for the U.S. as you mentioned. And no wonder, they only sold 305 K900s in 2020 in the U.S. despite fabulous reviews.
I just bought a 2022 Stinger in Ascot green and I always get comments and looks about the color and how sweet the car is. These cars are also hard to find along with the K5. There was a 2k markup on it but I got a lot of money for my 2019 Kia Optima turbo as a trade in.. Very disappointing these cars are being discontinued though.
dealerships shouldn't be allowed to mark-up vehicle. When i was searching for a Civic Type R, the markups were crazy. Luckily i found a great deal with 0 mark up, and boom, own an FK8.
A stinger coupe-like model was in the works. Saw an article about it somewhere. Not sure of the specs just yet though. It could highly be an EV model since thats the direction they are heading in
Thanks for a great video. Very strange news to hear. Kia Stinger is becoming a stable car for L.E.A's for interceptor work in Australia. Since Ford US closed down production of Australia's Ford manufacturing vehicles, especially the Falcon sedan which was dominante as a Interceptor (V8 & inline 6 cyl. turbo engines). G.D Falcons used the standard "Barra" engine. The same happened by US General Motors when they cancelled production of the Holden Commodore. Now with KIA stopping production of the Stinger, Australian L.E.A. again have to scramble to find suitable vehicles for interceptor work. Some BMW's, Mercedes and a few Chrysler 300 are in use in 1 or 2 states in AU, but the cost of purchased for BMW and Mercedes are astronomical, not counting the extra cost of fittings. The Kia Stinger GT is a fast vehicle nicely finished off but it's purchase numbers was prohibited that it was a hatchback rather than sedan. Rear head room was a common complaint especially by tall passengers. Lastly, the disadvantage in Australia is that we drive R.H. vehicles in rear wheel drive. Perhaps this is why Ford US is not producing L.E.A's vehicles for Australia.

I really wanted a Stinger but it was priced just out of my range. I think that was the case for a lot of middle income people. $40K-$50K was just too much.
Same. It was my dream car as a twenty something year old but it was out of my budget.
Yep
100% agree it’s just a shame that inflation and the overall car market has driven cars to be so complicated to the point where it’s impossible to make a decent powered car under $30k now. The current Stinger with either engines are still great bang for your bucks, especially used.
I got an AWD 2020 Stinger GT 3.3TT for 36k--and yeah I paid cash so I may have had an advantage since I can walk and it puts pressure on them. Stinger is the cheapest you are going to get for the prformance.Go look at what Honda Type R-- WRX--and Golf R--those 3 cars last year when I went and looked wer 38 to 42k. Any of the other V6 in this class like Q60--Caddy Cts V--are 55k to low 60k--in fact a q60 AWD was 61k--a 25k diffrence.I also rent Audis and talk about sticker shock --A6 Audis are 70k. I was actually going to get something lightly used--but KIA had me a better deal by 4k then a used 2020 Honda Type R that had 5k miles--they wanted 39k for that Honda--and a Stinger is a better car.BTW 36k would have gotten me nothing at BMW--one of those tiny X3 SUVs was the cheapest thing on bimmers lot and that was 46k--10k more for a sub 200 HP low end SUV.BTW buy cars--I had my last Honda--a rare crosstour Type R for 10 years--after my trade I actually only paid 19k for my Stinger. Also except for the track--I drive my Stiner around in comfort mode--not only saves money--but tickets also.
$40k is a lot for even higher income people that live in higher cost of living areas

Lmao.. wow. Carnival hybrid wow it comes with clowns it’s a full circus
Sports car will be nothing more than a nostalgic memory if this trend keeps up. Why are y'all so obsessed with crossovers and SUVs? Only Americans have that "bigger is better" mentality, and it has completely ruined the car market in the US.
It's not just the Americans, the SUV trend is worldwide, especially in China where anything that resembles a SUV moves the needle.
Agreed. I used to own an SUV back when the kids were younger and I had to carry all their stuff around for sports. But once they got older I went right back to a car, a Q50 and now drive a Golf R and have no plans on ever owning a suv again :)

Just had mine tuned to 420RWHP and am really enjoying the look on the M3 guys faces ha ha!
Any transmission mods? If not, RIP trans.
I totally agree I would not pay those prices for a kia mite as well buy a Cadillac ct5 or ct4
Love my 2018 Stinger GT. The road presence is amazing, it's a head turner. Performance is amazing as well. Sad to see this.
You sir are 100% correct!! And my scorpion edition is so beautiful
Yeah, we all saw this coming. Sedans just aren't it these days
Bad taste rules over all
Unless it's electric
And who can afford these high powered electric vehicles? There's no middle class, only the have and the have nots.
the only non-electric sedans that sell in Europe, for example, are the German ones (3-series, c-class etc.). Lexus barely sells any sedans either.

Talking more from a price standpoint. The person in the same shopping area as the stinger has a lot of competition to choose from, Tesla being one of the biggest options currently, but also BMW and Mercedes. The Stinger is in an awkward position of providing much if not more than the competition, but not being noticable enough
My 19 stinger is in HiChoma red and it turns so many heads. It’s such an amazing car sad to see them discontinue
I think it’s because of the Genesis G70. Genesis is booming at the moment, luxurious as a Lexus but drives like a BMW.
obviously not since stinger outsells it'
dealerships shouldn't be allowed to mark-up vehicle. When i was searching for a Civic Type R, the markups were crazy. Luckily i found a great deal with 0 mark up, and boom, own an FK8.
I don't understand Kia, they keep canceling their cars or renaming their cars.. they recently had their sonata, and it also got canceled
Kia sonata??
Well, this is just a rumor, but either way I'm glad I got my Red Stinger GT. I absolutely love this car and it turns heads almost everywhere I go.
A stinger coupe-like model was in the works. Saw an article about it somewhere. Not sure of the specs just yet though. It could highly be an EV model since thats the direction they are heading in
My local KIA dealer never had more than one or two at a time on their lot. Then it would be months after those sold before they got another one in.
Great camera quality in the beginning, what camera is that?
Thanks! I think I was using my canon M50 with the sigma 16mm f1.4
@@KirkKreifels Nice did you have another car follow the other one? How did you take that shot in the intro? just curious.
Sad news. I got my stinger in 2018 and it is an absolute joy to drive even today 💔
Dealers are the big problem currently, luckily I managed to get one before this car markup bubble
Perhaps this is why Ford US is not producing L.E.A's vehicles for Australia.
kia said one of their upcoming evs will be an agile and dynamic machine. I think that one will be more of the direct successor to the stinger
