This is my daddy's phone. He passed away 2 weeks ago 😢 but he would listen to this and catch the spirit. Tears streaming down his face. Thank you for comforting an old man's heart as he left this world ❤❤
My favorite song of all time. I went 3 years ago to listen to the kingsmen in concert, it changed my life. I quit listening to Country music and changed to southern Gospel.
Kingsmen were also one of my favorite quartets. Oh, tenor singer had to scream the last notes out. I love to also hear Brian Free who's with Assurance now. He sang tenor for Gold City before forming Brian Free and Assurance.
I had the privilege of having lunch with the Kingsmen back in the 80's. I was about 14 yrs. old and sat beside Ray Reece. I'll never forget that and what wonderful people they really were.
most of these videos date back in the 1970s,,,but i recently started to listen to them alot,,,i cant get enough of them,,,,who is the better singers????without a doubt,,they all are God blessed the all,,
New years eve 2000 I was playing bass for the Gospel Brass and Big Jim Hamill led some singing with Palmetto state and some others and I got to play for him and afterwards I went to go eat with him, that was probably one of the best couple of days in my life. He was a trip!!
I saw them in my 20's....I never laughed so hard. They are the greatest. Such a tiny place that we got to sit and talk with these great, talented guys.
This is the best version of this song I've ever heard. Johnny Parrack is amazing. I was fortunate to know he man who wrote this song, Conrad Cook, and hear his story of why he wrote this song. Conrad wrote many other songs and along with his wife Patty Noe Cook sang southern gospel for many years.
Love this song written by Conrad Cook who was an original member of the West Virginia Calvarymen Quartet. Squire Parsons was also a member at that time. Brian Free was one of the best tenors I ever heard singing the tenor to this song.
The reason people get the tenors and other members mixed up is because of the kingsmens ability to change members and keep the sound very close to the same.. A great group and a great bunch of guys!! I oughta know!!
Glory Road was written by Conrad Cook of the Calvarymen Quartet of West Virginia. The group consisted of tenor singer Virgil Parsons, lead singer Squire Parsons, baritone Jim Humphreys and bass Bernard Cook. Piano player was Conrad Cook who also sang. The Calvarymen recorded the song in 1970. At the time Conrad couldn't fathom Glory Road would be so widely sung by gospel artists and groups Looking through the internet sites, I can see that the Kingsmen are getting credit for writing the lyrics et cetera. Well, they didn't. Anyone in the gospel field knows that Conrad Cook wrote the song. .
i agree, some of the best ever assembled, but lets not get carried away...Johnny Cook was not only the greatest gospel tenor, but the greatest tenor ever, period. No, Never Alone Johnny Cook Vestal Goodman & Johnny Cook - Looking For A City
What About Brian Free of GOLD CITY '83-'93, THEN, w/ Brian Free & Assurance, Bill Shaw of The Blackwood Brothers. Tommy Atwood of The Florida Boys. et al !
@1954terry1954 i completely agree most of the new stuff today is either contemporary or either like gospel rock or somethin......im only 16 and i know this....as young as i am southern gospel is my most favorite of all....always will be
Johnny is my pick also, with Ernie Phillips just about as good, love them both. As to where is Johnny now, he pastors a church in Smackover, Arkansas. He has a couple recent videos on here too, singing solo, at the church where Jay is music minister (his son). He sounds just about as good as ever, these were recorded last year. Check it out here on UA-cam.
@1954terry1954 Yeah, Southern Gospel today is more like contemporary than anything else. I love the old timey stuff. I might get to see the Kingsman in the next month or so, but I don't know, they just aren't the same....
@Andrewlinder10 Johnny Parrack (Tenor) Jim Hamil (Lead) Foxy (Baritone) Ray Dean Reese (Bass) and at the end Jim threw the mic to Tim Sarret or however you spell his last name lol and he hits the (2nd Tenor) note at the end...............
@joshuadavid1996 didnt say I didnt like SG today, just said todays isnt as good as yesteryears in my humble opinion.....Cathedrals, Kingsmen, Hinsons, Goodmans were head and shoulders above todays groups....just saying...
Negatory, He was playing Acoustic Guitar, Mark Tramell , who Later sang Baritone w/CATHEDERALS & GOLD CITY, Then For men mmThe Mark Tramell Trio, then ,He Added a Bass,Singer to Make it a QUARTET
Correction, to My Misidentifying the Bass Guitar Player, Mark Trammel, & What Slot He Sang in, He Sang Baritone for The Cathederals Quartet & Played The Bass Guitar.
This is really good. I personally prefer Jay's voice but Johnny was really good too. He was better than Jay in some respects, such as vibrato and such, but Jay had more range, and I just happen to like Jay's voice better. Johnny does an excellent job here though!
Brian: that is Johnny Parrack, He's retired now but his son Jay is all over these vidios, he sing with Gold City and if you want to see both of them in a video together just pull up (gold city - fathers and sons) video, it's really funny, too.

No one is better than Johnny...I love him...

Great singing!
One of the best gospel groups.
What a joy it will be to sing with them in heaven! This is my kind of Southern Gospel!
I had the privilege of having lunch with the Kingsmen back in the 80's. I was about 14 yrs. old and sat beside Ray Reece. I'll never forget that and what wonderful people they really were.
most of these videos date back in the 1970s,,,but i recently started to listen to them alot,,,i cant get enough of them,,,,who is the better singers????without a doubt,,they all are God blessed the all,,
I was blessed to see them several times.Praise the Lord.
No one could sing this song like Johnny Parrack! wow!
New years eve 2000 I was playing bass for the Gospel Brass and Big Jim Hamill led some singing with Palmetto state and some others and I got to play for him and afterwards I went to go eat with him, that was probably one of the best couple of days in my life. He was a trip!!

Went to see the Kingsmen in a little Baptist Church in NC last weekend and Ray can still hit them low notes after 46 years.
Amen! God bless you for sharing!
Can't beat the Kingsmen on Glory Road!
Absolutely beautiful, Johnny Parrack!

Did I see Mark Trammell hiding back there on bass guitar?
Looks like! I did a double take too.
Love this song written by Conrad Cook who was an original member of the West Virginia Calvarymen Quartet. Squire Parsons was also a member at that time. Brian Free was one of the best tenors I ever heard singing the tenor to this song.
Squire Parsons was my Grandma's 2 cousin.
Great song, Ive hear it 30 times now can't get enough of it.
Love it!!!!!
No group had more fun then the Kingsmen
Such an amazing high pitch voice...i would hear it over and over again, i pray the Lord bless these guys...
Glory Road awesome song one of my favorites
love the Kingsmen!!!!!
What a great group!!!!
Just great...great singing!
Southern Gospel has always had a full share of really good tenors, back in the day with the Statesmen right up to today.
The reason people get the tenors and other members mixed up is because of the kingsmens ability to change members and keep the sound very close to the same.. A great group and a great bunch of guys!! I oughta know!!
Awesome and always will be!
Tenors and bass are always something
Wonderful and so beautiful 😍. Wow
Boy, Ray was sure excited there at 1:47! Good Video!
What totally amazing voices and harmonies.
Whats up with all the negative comments? I love The Kingsmen and they're Gospel. I dont see where anyone could'nt like it.
That's because this tenor, Johnny Parrack, is ex-Gold City's Jay Parrack's dad. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
just bought the cd of this concert, now just have to find it on dvd.....
Cowboy boots Corvette belt buckle and what a voice!!!
It is the best...its too bad there isnt much true Southern Gospel left. "Pop Gospel" has taken over. Its a shame!
Just saw Mr Dillard Home going . Time of ones we enjoyed .
Big Jim was just awesome.

this is the southern gospel i enjoyed back in the day; i might be a little prejudiced but i dont think todays equals yesterdays. just saying.
@1954terry1954 You do have that right, they don't stick with the "stuff". I am only in my thirties, and this is what I remember and love still.
good job yall!!
i agree, some of the best ever assembled, but lets not get carried away...Johnny Cook was not only the greatest gospel tenor, but the greatest tenor ever, period.

That tenor sounds amazingly like the tall skinny blond haired screaming tenor Gold City used to have. It's uncanny.
That's Johnny Parrack the father of gold city tenor Jay Parrack(the screaming tenor)
It's John's son Jay
Yea it's in the blood!
to think, these guys did the best version of Louie, Louie ever!
That's a different group....same name but different group
@@antrhj07 The KINGSTON TRIO sang Louie, Louie ! Not the Kingsmen Quartet.
The Kingsmen sang Louie, Louie. Not the Kingston Trio.
How about Gary Sheppard?? Not bad either!!
@sonshine04086 No, the tenor is not Gary Sheppard. It is Johnny Parrack who was a couple tenors before Sheppard.
Watch this video and receive a real blessing.
@joshuadavid1996 didnt say I didnt like SG today, just said todays isnt as good as yesteryears in my humble opinion.....Cathedrals, Kingsmen, Hinsons, Goodmans were head and shoulders above todays groups....just saying...
what is the next. song they sing?
Neither can I. If I find it, I will let you know, I would appreciate the same.

Who is the piano player in this video? It doesn't look or sound like Anthony; but then again, I could be wrong. Thanks.
His name is Charles Abee
@@bradroberson6359 Thank you. He can really play; I like his style.
Don't 4-get Tommy Atwood of the "70's FLORIDA BOYS, or Brian Free from '83-'93 GOLD CITY !
This is really good. I personally prefer Jay's voice but Johnny was really good too. He was better than Jay in some respects, such as vibrato and such, but Jay had more range, and I just happen to like Jay's voice better. Johnny does an excellent job here though!
Who's all singing here? I only know of the bass singer.

Did they really kiss in 2:28?
+MrLucasBitencourt no. the tenor put his hand in between. it was a fake out. the tenor kissed his own hand while 'freaking out' Jim.
dave lewis Thanks for your answer ;)
@TDWright48 really... the best tenor? Brian Free sing like Mickey Mouse...
Hamil said tenors are hard to find they have to look like a man but sing like a girl!
