Installed these on a riding mower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxetgfkJxfdT_B2vGYP-uNTLaBbim9OKTD . They were sharp out of the box, although I've never liked blade edges that were coated...not quite as sharp as I personally want. Using my belt sander, I removed the coating from the cutting edges and refined the edge enough to shave with them. So far, after three runs, these blades are holding up as expected. Even after hitting a few fallen 1/2 inch or so branches, the edges are still sharp as heck. No edge dings, no warping, etc. As far as installing them, the cutouts were of the proper size and shape to fit my aging Craftsman mower. Very satisfied.
The very nicest mower blade sharpener on UA-cam I've seen. I didn't notice how you accomplished the grinder wheel up/down adjustment. Thank you for sharing your design!
This makes you wonder where some of the really expensive sharpeners on the market get their design from. I work like you do and when I see something I like I will attempt to make it myself. I have a nearby welding shop that has boatloads of scrap from projects they make and so far I have built two major tools from their scrap (Box Blade & Log Arch). I already have enough material to make your design, so thanks for the demo. In case you are wondering, I am saying I will make this eventually, but time and daily life is always slipping away and clocks run faster than I do, but I will catch that clock one day and finish the project. Thanks for the demo.
Great idea, and tool. Getting hold of steel in the uk is expensive now. Before retirement I had contacts to obtain scrap to clean up, but sadly some projects are just cheaper and quicker to buy. I'm looking forward to looking around your shop more!! Really interesting and loads of space (I'm wheelchair bound) I don't have as much room as I would like. One thing you guys are not short off!

Hello from Saskatchewan Canada, happened upon your channel fixing a fuel gauge problem on a 73 c10 for a buddy, ended up watching a few of your vids, enjoyed very much-the backhoe endevour looked a little overwhelming but very well done, and also nice to see the SS restored as im a chevy guy, am building a 454 81 malibu for a street car currently so i can appreciate the time spent on your car,i need to stay out of the snap-on van so i can finish it ha ha, keep up the good work-ill be watching

That Snap-on guy - I usually ask for the "no whiners discount". Sometimes he will give a bit off those scary figures which is always appreciated. Last time here was here I barely cracked his door and looked in asked if he had a gun. (the robbery without a gun joke). Gotta add a little fun to the day...
Interesting idea. I have made one based on a similar concept. I didn't have nearly as much metal or tools to work with but hopefully it deliver similar results.
Finally a sharpener that grinds toward the blade edge which leaves a lot less rolled over burr to grind off the other side of the blade. Using a grinding wheel is a plus too as it is 1/5th the cost of a flap disc and stays more aggressive than a flap disc which only cuts fast at first.
Good Job. Handy bit of gear, and no doubt he'll modify it as he goes along. Very Neat & Tidy Workshop, He'd be a pretty clever bloke. Probably eccentric to go with it!

Nice design! I’d like to make something similar. For ease of use if you haven’t don’t it yet you could weld some round stock on your bolt heads for T handles. No tools required other than the grinder. It’s probably been mentioned already since I am late to the viewing party! Once again fantastic work!
Caught the pun there, almost missed it. Still have those telephones. They got hooked to a battery to power the voice part. They were the shape of a soda can and almost twice as tall. The crank for the ring will put out around 100 volts. I used one to power a science project at school with a bunch of things mounted to a board that were 120v.
Best blade sharpener yet, I just don't have the equipment for this type surgery. What would it cost me to get one to N.C.. thanks for using your talents in a positive way.

I have viewed plenty of blade sharpeners here on you tube. Three quarter hp and up. A few minutes to set up out of the box to a couple of hours. Adjustments to make then some folks are clueless on what to do or proper way to use. I’m sure you got a few hours of building and tweaks but all in all it look pretty easy to place in the jig and sharpen away. Like the video and the simple build with you knowledge. Out of all the views I’ve seen this is the best one. Congratulations on your build.
All that time,effort, n money spent on materials. I just use a bench vise. Quick n easy. No dickering with plasma cutters or equiptment. Do it yourselfers over complicate such simple tasks.

Not until or after about 6:35 I had to wonder if your favorite car was the AMC Rambler and your favorite song is Rambling Rose. Once you got to it I thought that sharpening guide was a good idea.

As a machinist I grind my own high speed steel cutting tools. It's easy to free hand grinding a lawnmower blade, then finishing it up with a file. Just takes a little practice, a jig is a waste of time, and you'll quit using it after you get the idea.
@@2jeffs1 I used a jig when I started grinding tools, so I know it can add confidence when getting started. But after you get the idea I think it will not be needed for simple tasks.

Your welcome Kenny! Do have a lot of pictures and more footage of the creations back then. Had the big sand blaster fired up out in back which made quick work out of the prep. Went out to cut the grass, was cutting poorly on the one end. Stopped and looked underneath. Put a blade on upside down. Duh! Thought maybe I shouldn't be fixing cars any more...
This is a great idea and a great channel. Have you thought about welding a tommy bar onto the bolt head? That way, you wouldn't need a ratchet to tighten or loosen it.
Nice sharpner .. however for as many times as I need to sharpen blades not really productive to build .. This is a cool project for a teen interested in sharpening blades on the side
Ha ha, cool! Yeah - their quality can't be beat either on everything they sell! With their grinding disc's you should see the sparks coming off the wheel. Don't think the bench grinder is even that fast!

Really like you setup because it keeps the blade steady & the grinder is the moving part, wish you were closer I'd get you to make me one
That is a brilliant idea for a blade sharpener. Once you get the angle set and sharpen it once, all the other times will be consistent. Brilliant!

Too funny - actually I did have a similar thought too. Showed it to a few people and - yes if there isn't a blade on it they had no idea.

If you want to cut fast, use a 3M Cubitron II grinding wheel. Cuts so fast the blade will not even get hot.
Thats the best thing since sliced bread , but a very cool tool .

I have trouble sharpening mulcher blades. Any ideas for that. I don't think the jig would suit ....but it's awesome for straight blades.
