    My company introduced DEI as part of our ESG strategy early 2022. Within two years, we have managed to increased women in leadership roles to almost 40%, and there are just as many people of color now in the office as white. Ironically, at the same time, staff turnover has increased significantly and the anonymous staff surveys shows overall satisfaction is declining, and bullying has increased. I have seen the company go from being open and friendly to biased and far more segregated. Last year we introduced a new hiring mandate that excludes men, that's right, we can only hire women.

      I think it's unfair to judge him from this limited context. The teacher may have invited feed back. Also the technique he mentioned is call task reduction. We use it a lot in resource rooms and self contain class room which doesn't add instruction time or take away from other students.

      I had a similar thought. The poor teacher that has hundreds of students is suppose to figure out a special one on one solution for each kid? The entitlement of his attitude is astonishing.

      @@james.yt.00Teacher in Australia here. Yes it's hard, however we are expected to differentiate our teaching for students with disabilities, students who need extending etc. We actually must differentiate and take into consideration the learning needs and goals of every student in our classes. To judge this speaker as being entitled is just your opinion. We often accuse others of things we ourselves are guilty of, but don't want to acknowledge.

    Let me illustrate what modern ideas of equity are like...
    I was an a relationship previously where my wife was physically abusive. One time I woke up with her trying to strangle me (she had mental health issues). Thankfully now I'm in a happy relationship, but do I have the right to try and strangle my wife now, out of equity? No. Why not? Because they are different people.
    Equity in modern thinking is trying to redress an injustice to one person, by creating an injustice for a completely different person. Discrimination can only be tackled at source, not by introducing discrimination to completely different people. It's external sinister the route that DEI is taking,.and I'm hoping it is made illegal because it is simply discrimination.

    If diversity and inclusion is so important for liberals, then why do they not encourage Haiti, Mexico, Japan, the Korea's, China, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Egypt, Norway, Sweden, Iraq, Sudan or Nigeria to diversity and be more inclusive in their populations?

      I think because of things like colonisation. The west colonised many communities of color and the consequences are still felt today so these communities have a right to have equal opportunity in the west. Who has Nigeria robbed & stolen from for them to have to diversify ?

Actually, they are worse, they assimilate or exterminate the local populations so ferociously, that in most cases no one even speaks their native tongues anymore. Also, it is not true that Western colonization has left those states behind. It has actually brought them medicine, civilization, the bureucracy, state building, western technology, food security and much more, that their populations have quadrupled in very few decades, and have stopped tribal warring. Western Civ has been a net positive for them. The reason they are poor and corrupt, has mostly to do with culture, not some western legacy. Kosovo has gone from abject poverty, oppression and almost tribal society, to the most democratic and safest countries in Balkan in 20 years, since its liberation. In 200 years or more, we will be just another rich EU country. What have they achieved in 200 years, except whine and blame the west, and receive enormous aid from the West? What do they want, to return to huts and savanas? Many countries that were colonized by the west are thriving today, and some are even better than the west. So its all about culture

    This is the worst argument for equity I have ever heard. Your child getting unique treatment is NOT equitable for everyone else in the class. Especially when you have the resources to get him a tutor, homeschool him, or enroll at a special needs school. People like Sadiq are why this comment thread is full of hate for something as well-meaning as DEI.

    All I hear from Asif Sadiq is "I refuse to listen to anyone who disagrees with my regressive backwards leftist values and I refuse to engage in discussion." This in fact shows why it's pointless of us to try and reason with these people. Continue boycotting them. Budlight learnt the hard way, Disney is learning and so are all the other companies which is why Microsoft scrapped their DEI team. Asif himself learnt the hard way too when his scheme failed and $8 billion went down the drain. These people are now getting even more desperate and are trying to enforce their values even harder, just continue to boycott. The only people who agree with them are leftist elitists who don't represent the majority of the population. Let them all learn the hard way through continued financial failure.

    bus & train drivers, repair & maintenance crews, nurses, doctors,
    school & university teachers, plumbers, electricians, anesthesiologists,
    ambulance staff, armed police, emergency medical helicopter pilots,
    soclicitors & lawyers, judges to all be chosen because of their ethnicity,
    skin colour, religion, disability, mental issues or.......because they are the best

      If you feel this way it doesn't mean DEI is wrong as a concept, it just means that it isn't serving your demographic. Instead of writing it off with a clever phrase, explain how it excludes you. How you are intimidated. As a right-leaning minority, I've found myself frustrated not with the concept of dei, but how it's implementation from the left is biased toward leftist values. No one gets it right the first time. We need to work together, and it takes people that are willing to compromise.

    Why do you need to see people that look like you in order for you to believe in yourself? This is so weird and strange to me. The country was predominantly white and that’s changing, so many people will have the opportunity to be the first at many things. Embrace it. The idea that it holds people back sounds like an excused fueled by victim mentality and excuses. If you’re good at something, people will hire you, promote you, and cherish you - that’s basically universal. The people complaining about barriers, unfortunately, are below average in performance.

    Diversity is a style, but when it comes to power, who runs all these people, out in front. The speech also completely ignores any of the risks. In some ways having Diversity rules can be very limiting. For inclusion you might wonder what would a spy or a criminal try to include to a corporate or government organisation. Society is not that nice place, giving power and status away is not a super happy subject about sharing.

    As a woman who is not of color but of different cultural background I myself have also felt issues with being accepted and taken seriously from the majority. I have also experienced microaggressions with regards to my intelligence, communication style and been judged as less than. This manifests itself with condescending comments and brushing me off. I would like to see people like myself included in the conversation as well.

    An ok talk, but there were a few generalisations within it, which I felt was a bit ironic given the subject matter. A quote from the talk at 8 min 40 seconds. "Our society is so divided. There is no middle left. You're either very far left or very far right ... and we don't speak to each other". Well, I'm middle left - most of my footy mates are middle left and in the middle ... and we definitely speak to each other in the pub, - frankly, it's astonishing that such a sweeping generalisation has been missed by whoever edited this talk in the final weeks of preparation!!

    This was a very interesting talk. I seek to try and learn how to make materials with regards to looking at diversity and inclusion more deeply more engaging. It is so important I feel in retaining staff for example in the workplace to be curious and show intent in being "consciously incompetent" rather than "unconsciously incompetent" at understanding what a typical day in the life of each other is like

      I'm a Muslim guy and I don't support it. I lost out on a good job because the recruiter wanted an essay on DEI. DEI is doing more garm to the people it was brought to help.
