He's an incredible side wiper and line spiker, which were his main weapons before adding a sick cutter to his arsenal. I KNOW ITS BEEN 4 WEEKS BUT YOUR SCRIPT WRITING IS INSANE. Im in high school rn, but after listening to some of these i feel like I've become a better writer. It great that tanakas an inspiration, and I love that, but you're writing makes the character really stand out and I think thats a skill that is really underappreciated.
I think one of Tanaka's main selling points is his relatability. We all had bad moments and felt average or inferior to others seemingly more capable at something. He has that self-awareness of when he's doing good and bad and says his thoughts aloud. He's also inspiring because he's his own hype man. Lets all be our best selves by being our own best hype men! We can do it!
I've felt like Tanaka. this year in high school I joined the wind ensemble, an advanced music group, and way out of my league. I remember coming away from rehearsals filled with shame and the idea that I shouldn't be there, honestly sometimes with tears in my eyes too. After a lot of practice I finally feel I have caught up to my peers and have a sense of belonging. The best advice I can give to anyone who feels average is don't get too much in your head and also just enjoy the moment because one day you will be better.
It's very interesting how hard we can be on ourselves. Sometimes our expectations blind us from the achievements we have made and it feels like we're failing. The best way to combat that is to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Noting the things we are excelling at is a great motivator to persevere in the main goal we are struggling with.
I LOVE that someone talked about it. The line has always moved me and I constantly find myself going back to re-watch that episode because of how incredible it was.
Holy shit, ace video bro Edit: long story short, Tanaka so humble he views himself as painfully average, but makes perseverance look easy with how persistent his efforts and attitude are
When I first saw Haikyuu (on shorts or edited vids about Haikyuu), I though Tanaka was only a comedic relief character but when I finally watch Haikyuu, I appreciate his character and positiveness more thoughout the whole series. So even though I was shocked at what happened on post time skip, I was very happy for him, achieving his one dream 😂.
Finally glad to realize that someone else is also feeling same about that situation of tanaka and how amazingly inspiring that scene is.....hatsoff to the creator of that eposode man seriously favourite and most inspiring moment in entire anime
Learning how to emotionally regulate is a skill and what Tanaka is doing is important, he's able to pick himself up and he's self aware. While he may not be the most athletically gifted person emotional regulation is important especially during a high pressure moment. He displayed that he has IQ and EQ, and that's ultimately how he was able to remain effective and do his job well, being preset and calm.
Don’t usually comment on your videos, but just wanted to say we all appreciate the work you put into these! Between the scripting and music you nail the storytelling on these which make them really good analysis videos!
Incredible video!! I’m rewatching Haikyuu right now (had watched S1-S3 twice in highschool and S4 once, but it’s been quite a while since then) and when you brought up Tanaka’s arc in season 4 I instantly remembered the investment and emotion, the stair imagery, the connection to and pride I felt in Tanaka. Your retelling of the arc was genuinely really beautiful, and I was brought back to those episodes, getting teary and pumping my fist just as I did when I first watched it. In a show full of incredible arcs, Tanaka’s is still a standout for me every time, and that’s saying a lot in a show with writing as strong as Haikyuu.
This is one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam in a LONG time. I clicked because of the one line bait and I love Haikyuu, wavered a bit when I saw that it was a 17 minute video, and then 17 minutes later I was sad it passed by so quickly. A perfect summary of Tanaka's journey to this moment, the actual audio from his big moment so that fresh off of hearing his story we get to experience the moment again, and then a (admittedly somewhat sappy but still nice) message to send us off with. Just truly well done.
The fact that it was lowkey a threat but also a statement of trust makes it pretty chilling to me and the cherry on top is the OST that you posted towards the end (as well as the same OST that played in the second shot of Tanaka's insane line shot) is called the Threat of Trust!
My personal line is 'We can be only who we are, no more, no less' And I've taken to understanding it as 'We can not put any less of ourselves into our actions, and we can not be in excess of ourselves, as both are ultimately our own actions.'
"Within the labyrinth of existence, where meaning often eludes grasp, our true journey lies in embracing the paradoxes of life. In the pursuit of understanding, every contradiction holds a revelation, and every challenge, an opportunity for growth."
Amazing how we all get inspired by different Haikyuu characters because we have different struggles and perspectives 🎉 Its so important to show diversity in the personalities❤ as a writer, I needed this realization ❤
Daaaaamn, the script are well written, edited video are simply perfect, and the back sound music makes my heart beat fast. I accidentally clicked the video an it worth my time, thanks 👌
the thing that stuck with me was "With a strong foundation, and a little bit of sense and imagination, it just taks the slightest trigger, to change a person."
I was so excited when you continued into Kageyama telling Tanaka he's not holding off on the left attacks. It's one of my favorite moments for them, both in the encouragement (if not intended as such) given from kageyama, but also the moment it leads to. When Kageyama makes that set, in a big way he is showing Tanaka that Tanaka is performing on an elite level. Why? Because he - the best setter they have - is trusting Tanaka with the full range of his weapons, even at the cost of other advantages Kageyama could have gleaned out of the play. This was the very argument Hinata/Kageyama had earlier in the series when Hinata wanted to be more than the bullet Kageyama fired. Tanaka may not be able to live in that world of giants, but on that day in that match he was definitely on that level. And that sequence with kageyama treating him like a full partner in the play cements it so well - while simultaneously showing Kageyama's own growth as the 'spoiled prince' of the court.
Not from a series, but a game. Dont know why, but two of the Ancestors lines from Darkest Dungeon stuck with me since i've first heard them. Specifically: "Seize this momentum! Push on to the task's end" and "Many fall in the face of chaos. But not this one, not today." Dont know why, they just did.
You know there’s this one moment from Daichi that I kinda remember when I was reading the manga. I don’t remember what chapter and I don’t even remember an exact quote. But it was something along the lines of him highlighting the fact that he wasn’t the best player, but he was their captain, and his role was to be the foundation for his team. Which I believe lead into him making a badass receive or spike. I wish I could find that chapter, but it was so badass
I think one instance was when kageyama and hinata were getting worked up and miss their quick but Daichi covers for them, there he says something about him not being as flashy and talented as Hinata and Kageyama but as a captain, he'll support them from behind And one instance when Shinsuke doesn't quite get why Daichi was running up for the synchronized attack rather than staying to pick up blocked balls, then Daichi smashes the ball into the court proving Kita wrong, that he's here to attack as well Daichi is so cool man, it's so amazing how they put a lot of effort into writing every character
When you watch Haikyuu, not only is it a fun, entertaining experience with funny lines and great characters, but it also genuinely lifts your spirits and makes you feel like you can do anything
I really needed this at this moment. Here I am really feeling down the last couple of months as I ponder is what I am doing all worth it? Am I making a difference? Am I even doing anything. I am feeling so mediocre, no even have serious self doubt of my worth as I don't think I am effective. I don't see myself contributing but rather dragging down the people around me and it hurts. Watching this made me remember how I resonated with Tanaka here. How I am also a Mr. Average surrounded by monsters who were doing far better. I feel like I'm in the bottom of that mountain that Tanaka is looking at and have no will to take that step paralyzed of the notion that I am a failure at this point. So thank you for this lesson.
One of the hardest battles anyone will ever fight in a competitive setting is when you think you have hit the ceiling of your abilities. Tanaka is not average, he is excellent, and a force of spirit for Karasuno; but Tanaka feels that he is at the edge of the mountain, at a point where the jump is too big and if he falls he will never rise again. Luckily he has people like Kageyama who show him even in the darkest of times that he can do more. That he believes in him. It is a powerful moment to get past that mental block of believing you will always be average and it's also the first step to becoming a monster invited to the ball. This might not be the last time Tanaka feels average but every time he fights back and continues to climb that mountain, step by step, he is becoming the prodigy he wants to be.

The line that I personally resonated more with was the moment he hits the cross shot: 出来る まで やれば、出来る! After my 2nd failed attempt of the JLPT N3 test, I started to lose motivation and couldn't think of a way of how I would be able to succeed on a possible third attempt.. But then this clip became my motivation to keep on studying and improving my Japanese. In December I did my 3rd attempt... and I was able to pass the test this time!! Immediately I went back to this clip and felt a huge release of emotions 😭! Also I visited Japan in April and was able to converse with so many people. And to top it all of, I was able to find a shirt of Tanaka with these manga panels printed on it!!😍

You can't even get how comforting your your channel is for me. I'm such a big fan of haikyuu, but it seems many people I know don't get why and I'm probably not that good at explaining myself. But then I think of your videos and I know exactly why and how to explain it. You really sum it up beautifully. So thank you 🙏🏻
No worries!
Wow, thank you!
Holy shit, ace video bro
Edit: long story short, Tanaka so humble he views himself as painfully average, but makes perseverance look easy with how persistent his efforts and attitude are
Tanaka is literally made for volleyball because "volleyball is a sport where you are always looking up!"
This is one of the best motivational videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. Just speechless.
Wow, thank you!
Finally glad to realize that someone else is also feeling same about that situation of tanaka and how amazingly inspiring that scene is.....hatsoff to the creator of that eposode man seriously favourite and most inspiring moment in entire anime
1:38 just seeing that hand go up, I can hear him calling for the ball again and it gave me chills 😅I didnt expect that
Learning how to emotionally regulate is a skill and what Tanaka is doing is important, he's able to pick himself up and he's self aware. While he may not be the most athletically gifted person emotional regulation is important especially during a high pressure moment. He displayed that he has IQ and EQ, and that's ultimately how he was able to remain effective and do his job well, being preset and calm.
so glad to have found a video giving tanaka some praise, especially looking at this episode !!
this scene puts me in to tear, then the way you explained it i cry
Don’t usually comment on your videos, but just wanted to say we all appreciate the work you put into these! Between the scripting and music you nail the storytelling on these which make them really good analysis videos!
Thank you! :)
Thank you!
The fact that it was lowkey a threat but also a statement of trust makes it pretty chilling to me and the cherry on top is the OST that you posted towards the end (as well as the same OST that played in the second shot of Tanaka's insane line shot) is called the Threat of Trust!
had chills through out the video. what a video man
Cheers!
This exact moral is why early MHA was so good.
Love rooting for the underdog.
“Talent is something you bloom, Instinct is something you polish" I resonate with so much
My fav is when Hinata get ask “why are u helping me, I’m your rival?” And his response is “ I want to fight u at your best”
I’m so cooked I know this is a haikyuu video but I read hinata and thought of Naruto😂
Man
You’re words made me cry
Excellent video
Emotions hit deep
Glad you liked it!
'Believe in the version of you that believes in yourself'
Amazing video, incredible summary and breakdown of the scenes
Thanks a ton!
Amazing how we all get inspired by different Haikyuu characters because we have different struggles and perspectives 🎉
Its so important to show diversity in the personalities❤ as a writer, I needed this realization ❤
Daaaaamn, the script are well written, edited video are simply perfect, and the back sound music makes my heart beat fast. I accidentally clicked the video an it worth my time, thanks 👌
Wow, thank you!
the thing that stuck with me was "With a strong foundation, and a little bit of sense and imagination, it just taks the slightest trigger, to change a person."
Is this JJK?
The way you set the scene is impeccable.
I embraced being average a long time ago, and this video has finally given me a valid reason for still trying my best.
0:12 "Do you want a sword, thorfin?-"
this video got me crying. thank you for analyzing this match and his character through and through the sets.
Not from a series, but a game. Dont know why, but two of the Ancestors lines from Darkest Dungeon stuck with me since i've first heard them.
Specifically: "Seize this momentum! Push on to the task's end" and "Many fall in the face of chaos. But not this one, not today."
Dont know why, they just did.
Dude... I don't know if you have other videos or what they're like but THIS video has earned my SUB! Awesome vid man!
Awesome! Thank you!
I subbed. These are moments I want to be reminded of. I love anime.
Needed this today, thank you
You know there’s this one moment from Daichi that I kinda remember when I was reading the manga.
Probably in the third set vs inarizaki? Or in the Johzenji match
I think one instance was when kageyama and hinata were getting worked up and miss their quick but Daichi covers for them, there he says something about him not being as flashy and talented as Hinata and Kageyama but as a captain, he'll support them from behind
And one instance when Shinsuke doesn't quite get why Daichi was running up for the synchronized attack rather than staying to pick up blocked balls, then Daichi smashes the ball into the court proving Kita wrong, that he's here to attack as well
Daichi is so cool man, it's so amazing how they put a lot of effort into writing every character
@@shine6290 I think that first one was 100% it
Thank you so much for this video. I was in quite a bad place when I saw it and it really helped me
Glad I could help!
When you watch Haikyuu, not only is it a fun, entertaining experience with funny lines and great characters, but it also genuinely lifts your spirits and makes you feel like you can do anything
the line for me is “I want to live” -Robin
Love that scene too tbf
which robin from which anime?
@@Numnutz one piece
@@jakemckown7195 oh that robin
Glad I could help!
Damn I’m just commenting to say the transition at 8:18 is fire man. 🔥 love your videos it seriously serves as a reminder boost
Cheers!
My favorite anime quote: „People die if they are killed“ - shiro emia
One of the hardest battles anyone will ever fight in a competitive setting is when you think you have hit the ceiling of your abilities. Tanaka is not average, he is excellent, and a force of spirit for Karasuno; but Tanaka feels that he is at the edge of the mountain, at a point where the jump is too big and if he falls he will never rise again. Luckily he has people like Kageyama who show him even in the darkest of times that he can do more. That he believes in him. It is a powerful moment to get past that mental block of believing you will always be average and it's also the first step to becoming a monster invited to the ball. This might not be the last time Tanaka feels average but every time he fights back and continues to climb that mountain, step by step, he is becoming the prodigy he wants to be.
as a very average person, i genuinely cried during this scene and video. tanaka is forever my most relatable and favorite character. woooow i cant believe something like this affects me so much
This one video got me out of the rut I was in this soccer season. Ty so much, I was looking at all the bad I have been doing instead of the positive I have accomplished. I have a game tomorrow and I’m going to crush it.
Why does this story make me cry everytime
I really needed that. I have always been that one player on the team that’s either average or doesn’t even start the game. Recently I have been considering giving up one of my two sports cause I felt like it was pointless to continue with it, however this video has changed my mind.Thank you.
Just found your channel. Man, this was beautiful. Thank you, new subscriber
Awesome, thank you!
Ykw man, may be I’m going through some depression and this thing has helped me move. Thanks a lot buddy you rock!
Nw :)
man this be hitting close to home, wether you're an athlete or a businessman or even an artist this hits all of us in a way. i just finished selling from a convention and i was sharing a booth with one of my friend who has massive following and it always felt like my merch was overshadowed by hers because mines look very average, it had me spiralling if it was even worth it for me to continue selling merch or not (of course theres a lot of factors to consider for stuff like this). but i'll see what opportunities i have and take em, like tanaka i dont have a reason nor the time and energy to keep sulking no more. so chin up everyone you're doing great!!
also amazing video man keep it up
"Just because there are better people pursuing the same dream, doesn't mean you lost the right to do the same", that dream, that occupation, that knowledge, belongs to us all. It's just, you can love it, dream it, pursue it, your own way. And it will be yours.
@@tuahsakato17 coudnt have worded it better brother
and i love that both voice actors for tanaka killed this scene, watched it in both a million times.
thank you for making this video
My pleasure!
wow.... just wow.. I'm so amazed how you analyzed this scene in the anime.
There is *ALWAYS* something you can do at any specific point. Finding your best move is always going to be impressive.
WELL DONE. I LOVE THESE STROIES
This vid had me tearing up
Good job in this video. I enjoyed it :)
Thanks for the visit! Glad you enjoyed :)

And to top it all of, I was able to find a shirt of Tanaka with these manga panels printed on it!!😍
I needed to hear this. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
I didn't come her for motivation but damn this really is something
Theres been three moments for me (one of them not from anime but ye)

For every show I watch I like to write down all of my favorite quotes and look back on them from time to time.
The Tanaka episode is my favourite from the entire show.
tanakas line where he says that everyone on this side of the court is your friend. that right there is what locked me into the anime and got me into volleyball. I have always been afraid of contacting other players but hearing tanaka saying everyone on your side is here for you really pushed me past
