Aaron and Claire, your recipes have helped me immensely. I am married to a Korean and I made this Tteokbokki recipe recently for us and it was a hit! Thank you for making Korean food accessible for us English speakers while not sacrificing authenticity. You guys are god sends. Thank you!!
I also love that he's keeping the recipes authentic! When I want another country's food I want it exactly how its served there not altered. It's always better that way to me!
Hi, can you please keep making these videos? I struggle with disordered eating and your "you might consider taking out this BUT" really helped me. thank you so much
"Go to the f**king gym." 🤣 I wish the fresh rice cakes portions at my Korean market weren't so big, I can never finish them before they go bad so I always end up buying frozen rice cakes.
@justtubingby8342 That must have been too dehydrated. How about wrapping them with a plastic wrap first and keeping them in ziplock bag? And make sure to soak them in some cold water for at least 20 minutes before cooking. This should be much much better! 😍
My wife is Filipina, normally doesn't like spicy food, but she loves tteokbokki when I make it for her. I use the little red filipino hot dogs in place of fish cake. Honey as the sweetener for the sauce, as well as a heaping tablespoon of minced garlic in the sauce. I also include about half a roughly chopped yellow or sweet onion. Tteokbokki is easily my favorite Korean recipe because it's so delicious and so easy to make. I like to keep any leftover tteokbokki sauce and use it over rice, or sauce chicken wings with it, or even use it on ribs in place of BBQ sauce.
Put the left over sauce on french fries!!! If you bring fries home pop them in the air fryer 1-3 minutes to crisp and warm and pour the warm sauce over the top. "Korean Poutine"
I’ve been watching Jinny’s Kitchen all week so I’ve been craving some authentic street style Tteokbokki. This being today’s video is obviously a sign I need to make some this weekend!
Made this exactly as written, and it was SOOOO delicious. I’ve only had frozen, pre-packaged tteokbokki before, and this was a million times better. I’ll definitely make it again!
I have made this in the past and it’s come out absolutely delicious. There are actually all ingredients in your Korean market for this to be made at home and eat it all up. Don’t worry about getting fat.
I absolutely love all of your videos. I make tteokbokki often because of all your great tips and recipes..we also eat it with mozzarella cheese corn dogs ..We have a local Korean market and I find everything there. Thank you so much for always sharing all these delicious recipes 🤗🤗🙏🏽
This is the most delightful cooking channel I've found in a long time. The food looks incredible, you guys are both so wonderful, and the vibes here are simply ✨ immaculate ✨
@@AaronandClaire I tried it after watching too many K-dramas where the characters went to a convenience store, bought tteokbokki, microwaved it & slapped some cheese on it! Yes, it made my mouth water! 😂😂😂
Bought the cookbook a week ago and am obsessed with this dish - it’s on the cover! Going to try it at a local Korean BBQ first before trying to make it. Thanks, Aaron, for the recipes!
I love to watch people enjoy the food they grew up eating. You can see the childish delight, the sheer enjoyment of their native dishes. (Now I’m going to hunt for a recipe on how to make these “rice cakes” because we can’t get those here. And also a substitute for fish cakes, because I don’t eat fish!)
Can you get aburaage (fried tofu skin)? I can usually find yubuchobap kits at korean markets. Ive tried it and fish cakes and I think its just as good as fish cakes. Just remember to rinse the skin with hot water before using to get the old oil taste off.
After weeks of watching this video, I finally picked up the ingredients I was missing and made this tonight EXACTLY as you show, and oh my goodness, it was THE BEST Tteokbokki I've ever had!!! Better than any Korean restaurants I've ever been to... and we've got a lot here in Lakewood, Washington, USA. Thank you, and God bless you & Claire. 🥰❤
My son just last week got on this kick where he needed to have Tteokbokki! I went to our International store here & its small but mighty, & I got the frozen kind. NOW...I am going to try yours! I love the feelings when Claire uses all of the enunciation when she is speaking about your food & the old! It speaks volumes!!! ✌🏼
I recently got your cookbook and I love it! Today I made Tteokbokki minus the eggs (forgot) and fish cakes (couldn't find!?). I already had some dried rice cakes but found a pack of those big fresh ones, so I used one of those too. I topped mine with sliced Havarti and a little bit of sesame oil and green onion of course... Super easy, customizable, and sooo delicious. Thanks for the recipe, Aaron & Claire!!
Awesome job on the dish, Aaron! I've always wanted to try tteokbokki, but I'm in an area where not any of the Korean restaurants make it. I LOVE Claire's feedback on the dish. It looked delicious and I know she enjoyed.
Aaron thank you so much for this recipe. I too grew up eating tteokboki my aunt made but as an adult I could not replicate that nostalgic taste. I’ve tried so many recipes only to be disappointed that it wasn’t the taste I was looking for but after watching this video…this is THE one! I also realized I have to cook it in the sauce for at least 30 min to get that taste to really come through. 노하우 가 생겼어요! Thank you so much! 😊
I've heard 'bring egg' 'bring beer' 'bring some rice' ' bring some kimchi' but today i heard for the first time ever - ' bring the corn dog' Sooo Gooood 😂😂 The recipe is amazing btw even though i can only find frozen rice cakes and frozen fish cake.
I made this today and it was super. I had frozen rice cakes and it would have been much better if they were soaked overnight beforehand. My "fine chili powder" was actually some old cayenne powder, fresh one would have been too spicy I used honey instead of corn syrup. Wasn't as glossy but the honey flavour was unnoticable. Dasida was key, but one can probably substitute with ramen soup base to taste. Dasida is very expensive 😅 Thanks for recipe
Nice! I just moved to a new town and was worried about finding any Asian ingredients but I found this Asian store recommended by my uncle the other day and it had so much stuff! Had a lot of stuff I wasn’t able to get before too so I’m planning to make all kind of different recipes now!
Thanks for this - I’ve only bought the frozen Tteokbokki that has its own sauce but it’s not as good as korean places (and I trust you 2 for authentic recipes!)
I've been cooking all sorts of korean food, so my friends are teasing me, saying I'm gonna turn into a korean lol 😄. This recipe you're showing here I haven't made yet, but it's on my list 😊👍
Guys, you have to google Korean grocery store near you. I recently found I have one only 15 minutes from where I live in Michigan, and it's been there for 16 years! Aaron, I made your Korean cheesy corn dogs (the yeast version) and they were amazing!! Thank you for easy recipes. Did you make fish cakes in a previous video?
Sure! Or you can just go for sugar! But I recommend adding a little bit less than the corn syrup because they can be too sweet! (Corn syrup is less sweeter than sugar or honey.)😍
Aaron - This was so good!! I made Tteokbokki once before with anchovy stock but your recipe was so much better. And anyone hesitating on the corn syrup - DO IT !! It's so worth it. (I think of it as an occasional treat to myself :P) It was a perfect balance of spicy with sweetness.
I love your videos Aaron and Clare. I'm allergic to seafood, so I wonder if Yondu would be a good substitute for fish sauce? When Clare says "Bring me Soju" I recall some good times in Itaewon 😬😊
I desperately want to try these. Seeing as the ChungChun that recently opened near me in South London doesn't sell this, just corn dogs. it looks like I'll have to try to make it myself. Wish me luck 🤞
As a person who spent her earliest years in the American Midwest, where corn dogs are a common lunch food, i just want to say that i cringed a little watching Claire take that confident first bite. It brought back some 🔥 scalding 🔥 memories!!! This recipe - and the Korean style corn dog - look amazing and i can wait to make it
This video was spicier than normal 😂 I LOVE TTEOKBOKKI!!!! I make it basically like this, but I think the fresh rice cake makes a big difference because it never has as good a texture as from a restaurant. I only have frozen available near me. Someday I will make my own rice cake!
Looking forward to giving this a try! My Japanese wife and I share cooking duties (whoever is in the mood to cook does, if she’s too tired then I take over)…. Killer tip on the corn dog, and how did you know my wife’s birthday is coming up‽‽
I start with the anchovy powder 2 tbsp and add beef powder later, definitely much better than the chicken bullion & ½ tsp MSG..😅, thanks for the recipe 🙏
Omg I laughed when you said "just go to the gym" LOL! Thuk bokki is street food, which means it's not the healthiest but it's delicious! I love your cutting skills, knife, and how clean and simple your kitchen is.
I really want to try this. I have to get some fine pepper powder. I really envy people who enjoy eggs. It’s a texture thing. Same with tofu. I keep trying though. I hope this recipe may change my mind about eggs. ❤
I would love to make this but I live in a small city so I don’t think I can find the ingredients, I will still try to find them tho bc this looks so good my mouth is watering
독일 베를린에서 안녕하세요!!! 감사합니다 for another wonderful recipe! My neighbors, who also have a small Korean market in front of my house, taught me this recipe. Soooo awesome. I look forward to trying your version too. I'm also interested in the Korean "corn dog" recipe that Claire refers to at 08:56, but the overlay card with the link is missing. It would be very kind if you could please add that overlay. Also, you may know about this, but in Sabae-City, Fukui prefecture, Japan, there is a deli that makes an amazing, delicious "corn dog" that they call Sabae Dog (サバエドッグ). Basically they form rice into the shape of a plump hot dog, push chop sticks into the end of the rice dog, wrap bacon around it, then dip it in beaten eggs, cover with panko and deep fry. Sabae Dog is served in paper cups with a kind of tonkatsu sauce. Delicious!! Please consider making a Korean version on your channel! I've been binge-cooking everything in your cookbook since I got my copy the other day and man have I been on a tteokbokki kick. Unfortunately, I've also purchased all of the tteokbokki in a 50 mile radius of my very rural home! Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find any of the fish cake. Is there any substitute you'd recommend? The nearest Korean grocery is 8 hours from me!
Since tteokbokki sauce itself tastes amazing, it will be still delicious without it. 😍 But if you really want to add more, you can add some more vegetables (such as green onion, onion, or cabbage) or hot dogs (or sausages). Or you can just eat it with some fried dumplings because the fish cake is also fried one. Hope this helps! 😁
I absolutely love watching you two beautiful and fun couple and all your interesting cooking videos! You inspire the world to want to try cooking Korean dishes( that are doable ha ha😅!). I think people w any GIT problem (such as myself) can simply adjust the level of spiciness by reducing the amount of gochujang and even omit the very red chili powder. If you're diabetic (such as myself) you can even use sweetener or indulge in a dollop of honey( and just go for a refreshing brisk walk,if you don't have a gym membership 😃!) . Being a retired doctor i've learnt not to deprive myself of anything good in life, so long as they're Halal🤓. Readjusting and substituting certain ingredients might not result in an authentic Korean gourmet experience, but, well, it's the next best thing😘. Like i'd tell my kids, and now their kids, there's no hard and fast rule in cooking, make it fun ,afterall it's not an exam...no marks given🤗
Every since reading a Korean webtoon I've always wanted to try Tteokbokki. When i saw a packaged version at Trader Joe's i was so excited, granted it was vegan. And i was sadly underwhelmed by it since that's not how I expected it to be, but THIS, this looks exactly like the webtoon version that always made me hungry. I can't wait to make this
I adore Korean food, but unfortunately my city only has two Korean-focused restaurants and neither of them offer tteokbokki. I’ve only ever had instant tteokbokki and it was way too sweet for my taste, but from what I’ve heard I don’t think that’s what all tteokbokki tastes like. I do live pretty close to an Asian grocery store with Korean ingredients, so I’m definitely going to try this recipe.
Aaron used the F word! Lol!!!!! Love it. People can probably sub honey in place for the sugar and corn syrup if they wanna be uptight, but it’s street food… that name doesn’t imply health. It’s not everyday food. Just go to the F-ing gym! And eat a salad next meal. 😂
One of my absolute favorites. Make it all the time. But now, thanks to you, I'll make it even better from now on. Up until now, I was just trying to copy the flavor according to the restaurant's flavor. The only thing i was missing was the corn syrup. I have been adding Miren instead. It was always delicious 🌸
I made it already...omg feels like a heaven❤❤❤THANK YOU AARON for a possibillity to cook with you and your delicious recepies!😊😊😊 Grettings from Poland 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱
I've made a few of your recipes and they are so good I'll be trying this one next but I have to ask since your recipes are so good are you a Korean master chef?
I cannot eat corn syrup (or glucose syrup), so I'm always looking for ways to substitute for them. My usual substitution is cane syrup/golden syrup, but that has a more caramelized flavor I don't think would work well here. Maybe a clover honey?

Absolutely an incredible dish. I love making it almost as much as eating it.
Haven't tried it? Don't worry about it. 😂
Absolutely my favourite dish!!
Tteokbokki is my favorite Korean comfort food, and takoyaki for Japanese comfort food! 😁
hey could you do a segment on spring rolls, chicken balls and chinese pork steamed buns? thanks, cheers from canada
Papa Aaron loves this comment! 🤣
Yes, I am! 🤣
@@AaronandClaireyou are amazing!
Is agave syrup is usefull instead of corn syrup? I can’t find corn syrup in my area.
I eat it a lot, but the spice is much for me, so I cut it with milk and add cheese, then it is wonderfully magical!
I will be in Seoul next week so I hope to find a vendor who has eggs too!!!
Don't worry about it! You will! 😎
I cannot eat corn syrup (or glucose syrup), so I'm always looking for ways to substitute for them. My usual substitution is cane syrup/golden syrup, but that has a more caramelized flavor I don't think would work well here. Maybe a clover honey?
"Just go to the f***** gym!" Loving the energy of this video!
