  • Hey guys,
    A close friend of mine let me borrow his 2000 Acura Integra Type R for review. It's a track car and has a bunch of "JDM" goodness done to it. In this video, I'll give you some background on the car and provide weights, 0-60mph, 1/4mile time and go an a casual cruise to provide impressions. Let me know what you think about the Acura Integra Type R in the comments section below.

      GT Content great video man, love the type R it's truly a classic 90's era car.. if you don't mind me asking, was this video filmed in the 559 california area? The scenery looks so familiar to me, it kind of looks like you were driving around the mountain that has avocado lake and Winton park. Belmont is name of the street if I'm not mistaken.

    Would take the dc2 type r any day, true classic jdm, not too much technology but enough to make it perfect, true naturally aspirated engine that's high revving, light easy to fix. it's just a 1.8 that makes 200 hp easy. And also made with true heart and potential. To become a legend in those who seek for a true honda.

    Awesome vid. I never got to drive one of these, along with the fun to drive 99-00 Civic Si. But I DO still have my 1997 5 speed base model Prelude, with JDM upgrades (H22A, and an M2B4 which has a Factory LSD with 4th gen gearing), and much more. Have had it since 2001, and I cant part with it. Thank you for your vids. Keep it up!

    Once again your page and content is so awesome I love the type R it's so funny the setup that he has now with something similar I had in my 93 hatchback back in 2005 had eBay DC headers and am cold air intake 6 Puck clutch. But then down the line people started getting jipped because the JDM GSR also says B18c.

    I had a Gen1 1988 Integra RS 4-dr, and I loved that car. Steering was tight (could corner like it was on rails), the pick up from the line was good (I surprised some people with higher HP cars), and was a comfortable daily drive. When I wanted to have fun with it I could. This Type R shown here is what the 3rd Gen Integra should have been with the front-end and not the "bug eye" crap. And the new Civic is just fuggly (f'ing uggly) in my opinion. Honda needs to get back to the sleek low profile look again, that's when their cars look great.

    Well done display of showing the hotness of the Type-R. I personally have driven the Acura 2001 Type-R myself and I can say that it's very fun to drive; it's just so addicting how fantastic it handles and how phenomenal it's power is even for a stock car. It's a true Honda enthusiast's wet dream. I sense that the suspension was somewhat worn out because the owner didn't maintain it as good as he should, but, you could feel that it responds well to road conditions rather well. I imagine that if he had maintained it or upgraded it to a sport suspension it would've performed nicely as intended. The new cars are rather hard to resist because it's really meant to comfort people. But for someone like me I prefer true road racing performance. The newer SI and Type-R is heavier as Honda tries to accommodate to the mass while the older generations were designed for the true enthusiast who fully understand the meaning behind sports performance who only live to drive it. I've driven the 92 Integra GSR, the 1995 Integra GSR, 2001 Integra Type-R, and the 2005 RSX Type-S and Honda has made big improvements throughout the years. Personally I prefer the 2001 Type R suspension as it handles way much better due to its wishbone suspension which you won't find on the newer generations. It's well balanced when compared to the others I've driven. It feels very light and responds well when you drive it fast, full throttle especially around winding roads as it pumps my adrenaline only making me want to drive it even faster. Overall, I would pick the Type R above all else. That car is meant to be driven like a race car. "The car picks and defines its driver." With that being said certain high performance cars aren't meant for certain people. Which is why we have Toyota Camrys. LOL It just pains me that Honda would try to accommodate the masses when it comes to true sports performance when designing a sports compact that's really meant to be driven without excess luggage. The 4 door style don't appeal to me at all for, again, it's really for the latter masses who want to take their friends out for a joy ride. LOL Since that's the case they should get a WRX. LOL Despite my own preference we'll wait and see if Honda is willing to produce a 2 door version Type-R which I presume they won't. I know that it'll accommodate someone who would rather experience true sports performance the way Honda truly, initially intended for it to be as oppose to the luxurious sedan with a high performance engine. LOL

    The light on the rear bumper is not a brake light but in fact a Fog Light. But people think it's a brake like and wire it as such when doing the conversion when in fact it's meant to light up as a brake like constantly when you're driving in fog so people can see you. The same with European cars as there in those regions in the world there is a lot of fog.

    What a great car, and glad to see it’s actually used on the track and not a garage queen. This one was a little slower than I would have expected. My Stock 1990 Integra LS would go 1.9 60’ and a 10.2 second 1/8 mile. Might have been the launch.

    BELIEVE IT OR NOT... the reason cars have gotten so soft and bland...less driver focused...is the introduction of the Internet and the new ability for anyone with an English accent especially to call themselves an automotive journalist. gone are the days of Tiff..jeremy etc... guys who could atleast drive a stick. Now the net is flooded with guys and girls who've never ripped a mountain pass with 3 pedals, but because of their large following and power to touch so many instantaneously, car companies listen to them and try to make cars that satisfy everyone in someway just to remain politically correct. Now cars come with "modes" ...cars nowadays are spread so thin with trying to satisfy everyone in the household. Like the stinger...a concoction of ideas but no manual option. Just too soft nowadays. THE 90's WAS THE PINNACLE. it's all downhill from here.

      GT Content and about the mpg....lol my old gc8 or ek civic were better gas sippers. the safety...I give you that, the emissions too, but what's your take on cars keeping the new tech but going back to old dimensions. example, a GC8 vs the brand new impreza or wrx...size difference is amazing.

      @07wrxtr1 6 років тому +6

      Yeap! I feel like I'm in a monster truck (370z) when I pull up next to any 90's 2 door coupes!! The younger generation just is not into real/actual driving. They like the "all show/no go" checklist "styling" and would rather have additional distractions within the vehicle to just 'get through' the drive. Also, fatherless households more kids are growing up in = less mechanical knowledge or enthusiasm (I do find it funny how they all wear beards but cannot change a tire/oil, and I'm convinced they WOULD have money for a car payment but instead choose $5.50 beers, stupid "me TOOOOOO" tattoos, high maint pets, and facial piercings and extravagant hair styling lol; just read Carollas book: "In 50 Years We'll All be Chicks" Brilliant!). It's fully a generation that sold themselves on anything that's "mechanical" is below them and white collar/college education was "better" so they've gravitated towards technology but now most have worthless degrees debt and "gig" jobs that are complete scams but if you tell them that, or anything they may disagree with, you're "racist."
      Every once in a blue moon you'll run into someone below the age of 30 that's into cars that actually knows what they're doing, otherwise there's a lot of pretenders that will talk your ear off for hours about stuff they've read/seen, but never EXPERIENCED. No wonder most of 'em are excited over the idea of autonomous vehicles carting them around to their next starbucks drink or overpriced beer and mentally being checked out, and to be fair, some are rightfully so because having 'graduated' with zero skills, dead end part time work, and having been trained to chase the dopamine rush of "likes" instead of LIFE.

There was no way they were going to work, and the coilovers pretty much just felt like cheap plastic. There was no way they were going to actually work. I tried to install the intake anyway just to see what would happen. Even though it was supposed to be specifically for a third gen Prelude, it didn't fit. Not even close. It most likely would've have robbed me of precious hp. I immediately ordered an injen intake.

    Was at SEMA last year, almost bought a DC2 from LA, I was at the point where I was totally irrational and had already emptied my bank account, had cashier's check in hand, until friends who were rational refused to give me the ride.
    I'd wait until 2035, probably with a bigger wallet, be irrational again and buy an FD2.

    Awesome video man, keep up the good work! The Integra Type R is such a legend, I really hope one day I'll have the chance to get behind the wheel of a bone stock Type R so that I can experience how it felt to drive one back in the day lol.

    Nice ride but if you’re are looking to add some value to the car I would refresh the paint and any aftermarket Parts I would do some mugen parts.. no cheap eBay stuff..😁

    The side skirts and the 2 back corner rear lips are optional accessories that don't come with the Type R as I remember

    cool vid. I remember all the street racing in Philly with Type Rs. Some had japanese parts, most didn't. They were thrilling to drive, watch race, etc.
    -New vs. old: I'm not really sure which one I would pick. I don't like the feel of the shifter + gearing of the trans in the new one. The gearing is weird. Not very intuitive

    Those are optional lip kits that the dealership offered.

      BBoyDrkNova you're right. The optional side skirts and rear valence were for any 98-01 2 door Integra. They were a factory option just like the 98-01 foglights.

    Original, the new type R is like 60k WAY to much for a Honda.... but if the type R was AWD and not wrong wheel drive then that’s a bit more understandable.

    Vtec literally clunks in. My 2007 TSX vtec activates very smooth.
    I just wish ,I could find a way to change vtec. On at 5,000 instead of 6,000 and not shift at 7,000.
    I can just tell and feel the k24 has more rpm in her.
    I purchased it for reliability, but just noticed it definitely has more in her. Honda definitely de-tuned it for economy and reliability. I know it definitely has some extra hp in her.

      Mike Brailsford You can purchase Hondata to change the VTEC engagement point and increase the rev limit.

    • @mikeydeshon5637
      @mikeydeshon5637 6 років тому

      GT Content it's an automatic transmission. Even just vtec from 5,500 rpm to 7,500 would make big power gains . Now it's only from 6,000 to 7,000. I'm sure an additional 500 750rpm wouldn't hurt the engine. But could net more power

      If you are planning on keeping the car for awhile and planning on doing more extensive bolt-ons, get FlashPro.
      If you plan on basic I/H/E bolt-ons and keep it like that, get the reflash. Night and day difference. You can rev the car out past redline to 7600 RPM (just don't do it all the time lol)
