Theres a huge scene in SOCAL, California area where the mexican kids love new order, the cure, the smiths, joy division, goth, new wave music. Goth music isn't anything new to the Mexican kids in California. We've been into this music forever.

As someone who has been on the Darkwave/Goth scene for decades I have known lots of South American and Mexican bands who have had long standing presence in the scene since the 90's. Along with chollo rockabilly, psychobilly and west coast punk. All these scenes kind of intersect in some ways. Nothing really new here. Noisy should do a history of Mexican and South American contributions to the Darkwave scene. Now that would be interesting. Bands like Hocico. Or contemporary bands like Balvanera, Humanfobia, or Vólkova. Now that would be new and interesting.

I Hope So,, I'm ancient, and was a Death Rocker kid.. goth boys wore make up and skirts etc, yes we shared the same "scene" I've been in fights in Mexicali back in the mid late 80s, while living there for the summer... Peace ... I still find Music that moves that Death Rocker kid.. Peace.. this band makes me laugh a bit.. cause I hate cholo culture.. standing up for myself made me into this Man... @∅

I know a lot of Latinos who embraced this style and goth culture through prayers, and a lot of goths who found respect and common ground through prayers. The fact is this band is a gem and one of the best gothic new wave bands out right now

I'm Mexican and grew up in the 80s listening to all kinds of different music because of the influences I had from my parents, brother and sisters, and friends. Over all I always seemed to favor new wave.
It makes me chuckle because as much as we as people say we hate to be labeled or stereotyped, we do it to ourselves!! This video and these comments are saturated with them!!!!!
I wasn't a goth, cholo, punk, metal head, b boy, or whatever, I was just ME! And for me growing up, as far as the music is concered, it was purely about the music!!!!! What happened to that????? I NEVER let it define who I was inside. It was all about how it made me feel! WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT???? We lost that some where, some how.
This goth, goth cholo, punk, metal head, what ever name you think of, they are all labels, they are all stereotypes. The music should not define you, the music should make you feel and think. So many comments on here mention, I grew up looking like this but I loved listening to this. The video itself states it. That's because we have labeled and stereotyped ourselves and others. Just let it be about the music and enjoy it!

I guess I grew up different. Music connected me to others, it was a common ground. If I meet someone who enjoyed the same type of music I enjoyed, I didn't even give how they looked a second thought! I wanted to get to know them and found out what their favorite album or song is from that singer/band!!!!!

I LOVE this. So much respect for Prayers and this movement as a whole. And I'm a baptist American white girl. No one should be coerced into being what they're told to be. The only way to true happiness is discovering who you are and why you are. Represent your beliefs if you need to. Who knows, you may start a revolution.
God is love. He may not love what you do, but he loves everyone equally. If you want to please him, you will not focus on judgment and hate but love and acceptance. I absolutely do not accept Satanism. But the passion and poetry that goes into the Goth culture is beautiful. ALSO NOWHERE WAS HOMOSEXUALISM PROMOTED. Never have been into ska, but I.d much rather listen to ska than the garbage on top 40 radio.... or "easy listening...hits from the 80.s 90.s and now". Fuck. A lot of the folks from the old school LA punk scene were Chicano and Chicana. That was the scene that gave birth to Death Rock. But it's easy to gloss over history when one has little or no respect. Growing up in SoCal left me someone with a great appreciation for Mexicans and Samoans.

I like this band's music since I'm a post-punk music enthusiast and try to collect it from every subgenre, time, and corner of the world -- sonically, the music's nothing new, and at first I was rolling my eyes too at the silly "cholo-goth" statement, and maybe the frontman's got a vibe of arrogance.
But going through these comments? I see some of it proving his point - fuck, he's absolutely right. There's a divide between the two subcultures, not to mention general outsiders of either scene, that can't do more than pigeonhole, judge, stereotype, and be hateful (such as some of the homophobic shit here). We're having a hard enough time accepting others as general human beings with race and LGBT tensions and etc, but can't even see beyond subcultures either, two worlds both heavily stigmatized as is.
In reality, deep down, I'm sure anybody could relate to that sort of peer pressure expectation from others, when you come from one background in conflict to another (in his case, his Mexican heritage and upbringing in a gang life, to his strong love for a particular style of music and artistic sensibility). In a way, maybe "cholo-goth" wouldn't be a thing if either scenes didn't stigmatize him about it in the first place. This man's not a stereotype, and I commend him for it.

A big thumbs up my friend, I’m a goth from Idaho. I know what it’s like to fit in to a very weird spot in the Goth subculture. I could tell you where I came from but you wouldn’t believe it. It’s all true. And I’m not alone. Imagine being in law-enforcement and loving the Goth culture that you grew up with since you were little. Granted I’m not there anymore, but imagine the difficulty in finding a balance. You do you dark sider.

People act like this is something new. Back in the late 80's and early 90's there were a bunch of Cholo Death Metal Bands. There were a bunch of cholos at Death Metal and Speed Metal warehouse concerts. Suicidal Tendencies dressed like Cholos. MS13 were all Stoners and other gangs came from that Stoner era.

I was born and raised in Baltimore city and even though I'm mixed race (Scottish and Chicano) I got fucked with EVERY day until I clicked up. I LOVE goth, the smiths, punk, Oi! And fools tripped on that because they thought that because I was a skinhead that I was racist. We have a lot in common and it warms mi Corazon to see another homeboy doing his thing but still staying true. Keep it up!
