People always say that Mercedes's are overengineered. Well, Volvos are too. The old redblock straight 4 Volvo engine has been tuned to 500-600hp and is able to take it. Some Volvo dragracing specials have coaxed 1000hp from the redblock straight 4. The modern, modular straight-6 are durable and overengineered too.
I really like the 2.4 diesels myself, volvo might as well put a guarantee on 350 hp when you try to tune the ones with turbos. Modify the air intake a little and you likely got that 350 with the same fuel economy as the default 205.
@@jetonnikollaj2991 lol whatever... ive seen that color in Focus ST with white wheels , also in MK6 GTIs is it named color ... looks to me what io would call turqoise blue ?
wow... my S60 puts out just under 325HP and its an S60T... I think you're figuring low on your car's performance. Maybe being manual has something to do with it.

Of course not a lot of people think they even exist, but when someone wanted to race, i'd point at the engine and say "that little guy? don't worry about that little guy..."

indigoBIue too bad they never did. They are always blowing smoke. Thry will never make a car like this. Nobody wants it and the people who do don't represent enough of the market
About 12 years ago as a broke college student I picked up an 87 740 turbo with a manual trans for a few grand. Simply by tightening a screw on the waste gate I raised the boost from 8 to 12 psi. That car was pretty quick, enough to surprise the heck out of a lot of people. Ugly as sin though :)
I never before even took a second look at the Volvo after seeing this car and if you guys going to make it I'll be the first one at the dealership to pick one up don't let the good thing such as this car to go to waste I personally like to own one S60 Polestar
Folks remember when AMG, BMW M and Mercedes started out small. The stratosphere price only represents a test to the market. I own a volvo S60 now. This is my second volvo. It will only be a matter of time when Volvo signs on to a larger production commitment. I am all in. Love the cars and look forward to a production piece soon. They continue to kick butt in the WTC circuits. Patience is the word. Well done Polestar.
I own a 1998 Volvo V70R, and is it fast and fun to drive. It is 15 years old and still kicks some serious ass out on the roads. Volvo's aren't just safe my friend, they're QUALITY vehicles. Their mandate isn't to manufacture and sell as many cars as possible, they take pride in what they produce and perfect it.
In terms of exclusivity, this car is as "exotic" as it gets. They are only building 6 of them, which means if they never actually start producing these, it'll end up a very nice car to have in your collection. I can see this car selling for much more than $300k in 20 years if all they ever build is 6.
Well written and great all around coverage of the story Basem. that sort of solid, well balanced coverage is not the norm so I appreciate the sense that all the valid points worth mentioning were covered, given the time allowed of course... It may seem like a small detail but I think anyone in the car industry primarily due to their love of cars, probably knows what I mean. thank you...
The normal S60 T6 has 300 horsepowers. And Automatic transmission is just confirmed for Australia, they have not yet released any info about the rest of our global market. And 0-100 or 0-62 in 4,9 sec is not bad.
Volvo may not be your type of car, but still there are many products and brands in this world that attracts different people. GTR may attracted you more than a Volvo. But there are many rich people in this world who likes this Volvo car. Volvo known for their safety for the driver and the passengers. The Market in this world are big and it attracted different people.
The GTR is very noisy on normal roads though. You get a very exclusive car, though it is a lot. I've driven a stock manual S60 myself, and it's brilliant.
To the people too lazy to do research, this model being tested on this video is a 300k prototype. The production model ( the ones being sold today as the 2015 model) is much cheaper ( pricing starts at 60k) and is less powerful (345hp)... It's a nice car, that's what matters.
they should go full production of this car, sedan and wagon both with the 6 spd manual or some form of automatic. this could put some pressure on the germans, they don't offer the old school stick shift that so many still adore and this is cheaper.... I think. similar power to the alfa romeo giulia quadrifoglio which offers a stick shift also but rwd only. just imo this is a very special car, there should be far more than 6 being made!
I agree. Someone that would consider purchasing a car like this would have to also consider something like the skyline which goes for a little under 100k. That same person could then drop another 100K in it in performance to get proven performance and still have cash left over. I still like the idea though and Volvo should consider producing something like this, 200K cheaper though.
after all, this is a true Volvo for Volvo by Polestar and not just some tuner someone built in a garage with special parts you can't buy of a shelf or on the internet. Theres the $270.000
I love volvo and have owned many. But volvo will always have that same stereotype in my eyes for this exact reason...They dont take any risk. The c30 and s60 are perfect platforms for sport packages and while they somewhat address it with the "R" and Polestar upgrade, its still got nothing on M, AMG, and S line Audi. Volvo step it up and mass produce these beasts and I swear there will be a great demand for these cars and a much hotter target demographic.
It costs 300,000 because its basically a concept car. Its not a mass produced production model. If they actually mass produced it, it would cost about the same as BMW M3 or Audi RS4.
Admittedly, the price is exorbitant. But when the volume of produced cars goes up the price will be able to drop dramatically and make if affordable for a much bigger audience. Even for fans of the fast ( yet somewhat overengineered) GTR.
The lexus LFA wasn't bulit for profit either remember everytime a LFA leaves a dealership they lose money. And atleast its a car you can look at and say it might not be a lambo but is a great work of engineering. What polestar has done here was make a car say "This is what we would want an S60 to be" and charge you for all the man hours they took in building it. And honestly I know they can do better and will do better because it is a car they want in production.
I agree with you even though you have to realise that the Lexus LFA is great marketing for Lexus and they probably profit from selling LFAs even though the actual car is more expensive to make than to buy. You must also compare how much money these two companies have. Only guessing i'd say Lexus can afford a stunt like that while polestar might not. You prove a good point however and the LFA has the look of a supercar while the s60 looks like a family sedan.
The I5 engine in company with the I6 engine would be absolutely ACE! Wonder when Volvo are gonna make a thorough breed sport car again like they did in the 60's.
