In Thybulle's defense, I think PJ Tucker said it best on the Point Forward podcast. Basically he and Iggy both said that wing players who space the floor/cut to the basket and play defense are not going to look good on bad teams because defense has no value on a bad team. Thybulle looked good because Embiid/Simmons/Harden took care of the offense and his defense mattered. Whether its PJ Tucker, Iguodala or Thybulle - none of them are going to look good on a Trailblazers team that is currently 14th in the West.

I expected Giddey's number to drop with the arrival of Holmgren and the leap of J-Dub but I expected him to improve his shooting. And with the emergence of Aaron Wiggins, as well as Cason Wallace's decent rookie season, he really needs to step up in order for his minutes to increase.

Giddey will be just fine. I'm an OKC fan and trust me, he's a god mode level playmaker it's just our system this season doesn't need that. Shai is the lead guard and Chet and J Dub are both very good passers of the ball. All we really need from our other two guys in the starting 5 is defiance and off ball shooting. Dort brings that and Giddey's eventual replacement Cason Wallace also brings that but those are Giddey's big weaknesses. But if he was on a team crying out for a playmaking PG like say The Spurs he'd really shine. He'll end up like Tre Mann and instantly look like a far better player on a different team when he gets moved on.
I think your wrong about Giddy, yes he has a lesser role & yes there are probably 7 or 8 guys on the team who are better at scoring, but the slob wisard is thier best passer & he is unselfish with the ball & he is one of thier better rebounders & they are currently no1 in the west, he took a step back because the team got more talent, not because he got worse as a player, on a great team 1 superstar is maximised & everyone else plays thier role, Giddy is playing his & it's working.
Josh Giddey's situation is a byproduct of the evolution of SGA, the health of Chet Holmgren, and the progression of Jalen Williams, and nothing else. Put him on another team and he's probably averaging 18-8-7. He's in an environment where he's probably risking individual stats to be a key role player on a winning team.

Giddy is a solid piece I hope they keep. He’s unselfish yet has the best pure basketball IQ and vision on that team. He’s just surrounded by guys who are more of iso scorers and selfish so there’s not much movement. At the same time an unselfish guy like giddy is good to have on a selfish team where not many are willing passers. I think he’s solid and will be needed in important games as those scorers won’t show up every game. He’s by far the best player on this list and has had many great games this season. It’s just not gonna be him scoring every night with that many scorers on the team and he’s willing to do other things to contribute.
Thybulle will be gone this summer from Portland. He only makes 11 million per year so he likely will be part of a deal that moves Malcom Brogden or Anfernee Simons Thybulles defenseis still very good to great at times but his PT has mostly gone to Camara along with Rupert and Murray. Who are all younger, longer and cheaper.
Giddey stepped up when he needed to last season, now that their team is 100%, he understands his role in the offense. Doing the little things while being a dependable backup guard with Shai is what they need. He’s still one of the best younger players on the young team; why say he’s washed now when it’s basically said he understands his role and tried to do the little things??? I’m sure after seeing this season end for OKC, he will work heavily on those little things to become a bigger threat as a playmaker and spot up shooter

On GTJ, his stats offensively are not too dissimilar from what they always have been except in 3pt % which is above 40 for the first time in his career, and defensively, the system the raptors this year use isn't as aggressive as the Nick Nurse system of previous years and GTJ still averages a steal per game, on fewer fouls, whilst statistically a better percentage rebounder than ever in his career. Systems play a big part of the changes and with the additions of IQ and Gradey Dick, it's only natural that he would be getting fewer shots as he isn't the only spacing option on a team. Hasn't fallen off, more is being used in different circumstances on a rebuilding team, under a new coach

Josh Giddey’s minutes are down 5 a game, his fg% is down .7, his three point percentage is up 1.2%. He literally just took a smaller role. Sure he didn’t take a step up this season but his downfall has been greatly exaggerated due to the allegations.
Lavine has 8 seasons with higher TS than Jalen Greens best. Lavine definitely has his own weaknesses but Jalen green could only dream to he as good as 2021-2023 Lavine

To be fair, OKC have so many studs, he's getting lost. Who would you rather have shooting the ball (SGA, J-Ddub or Chet? Even J-Will is developing nicely. Absolutely scary how good this thunder team can be if they can stay healthy and somehow keep their core together.
The Giddey take is a joke, and makes it easy to skip this channel. Giddey’s stats are completely comparable to his previous seasons per 36 minutes on a team where he has a far different role. I’m pretty sure Daigneault understands Giddey’s contributions a lot better than the talking heads who think he’s done at barely 21. If cap considerations end up pushing OKC to trade him (they aren’t going to give up on him because he’s too good) they will get a major haul and still probably regret it. Pop would take him in a heartbeat.
Josh Giddey is a solid player… lots Of these channels are hating on him simply cause of the allegations. But on a team with Chet, Shai, Williams, Wallace, Giddey is too slow, too weak, too horrible on defense, and too inconsistent of a shooter at 6’8 to be a useful playoff threat
Actually disagree with your take on bey, I’m a hawks fan so I watch pretty much every game and he is a great role player aside from his pretty abysmal shooting. Defense has improved a lot from when we first got him (still not exactly great but definitely looks like he is getting better) and his hustle is unbelievable. Always crashing the glass. If he does dribble it’s usually just to get to the rim. Pull ups only make up about 14% percent of his shot attempts
I feel the same. Saddiq is like tops in the league in corner 3 pt attempts but he's been ass at hitting them. Quin hammered out the stupid mid range pull ups from his game and he's been physical in getting to the paint far better than in Detroit. And he's a hustler despite not being a good perimeter defender. And dude def doesn't realize that he's only been starting cuz of injuries to Jalen and DeAndre all season
Giddey should not start or share a significant amount of minutes with Shai. Playing Giddey in a reduced role where he controlled the offense off the bench would benefit him much better. Obviously, you're still concerned about his shooting, but he can be used better than an "off-ball" player who needs the ball to he effective.
The problem for Giddey is that he is a primary ball handler not an off the ball shooter. He either no long has a role available for him in OKC given the growth of the big 3 or he isn't being used correctly. Certain to flourish on a team where he can be the primary initiator.
Jalen Green's been playing a lot better as of late, really picked up the slack when Sengun went out. Hopefully it's a sign of maturation/growth and not because of any chemistry issues between those two. I think Giddy has a great career in front of him...just on another team. He definitely looks like the odd man out of that young group. He's actually shot the ball a lot better as of late, the issue is, as you alluded to, there's just more talent on the roster now and he's a guy who needs the ball in his hands more to provide value.
This crap about Giddey really needs to stop. His minutes have been reduced which is why his stats are down to allow for other players like Wiggins, Wallace, Hayward, etc.get more time and also Chet is obviously getting more looks which takes away from his stats as well. Giddy's per 36 minute averages are pretty much identical to last year when he averaged 16.6, 7.9 and 6.2 and he is an integral part of this team's success and they're right there for 1st place in the West. It's a hot take but it's a REALLY stupid take.
giddey has only "regressed" because his teammates have gotten way better so get more touches. giddey is still a great passer and hits important shots for us. it feels like every time he scores it has more of an impact because its less expected so yea hes not worse at all
OKC has 3 first round picks this year, they should trade Giddy along with a pick so they can move up and draft Cody Williams, also draft a backup for Chet and bring up Ousmane Dieng

Yeah which will be good for both teams I think. Trade him for someone like Caruso or chase a veteran like Pat Bev etc. Gives some experience for the thunder and say the Bulls gives them a current replacement for Lonzo Ball to play a similar role to he did there. Or a really good landing spot for him right now is the Spurs. A really good passing guard to pair with Wemby next season. Similar age too. Plus he'll have some playoffs experience after this season.

True on guards but they could use Caruso at the 3, and he plays hard which should help the young guys too and is defensive minded. There is some other nice players that would be great fits but it's also what the other team can use too. Lakers could be an interesting fit too if they trade vanders for him.

If Giddey remains on the Thunder, I would get him on the bench and have Isaiah Joe start in his place since he fits more with that lineup. Giddey can run the second unit offense since he would likely get more control of the ball off the bench.

he is shooting very poorly. Typically when you get more help your efficiency goes up.

On GTJ, his stats offensively are not too dissimilar from what they always have been except in 3pt % which is above 40 for the first time in his career, and defensively, the system the raptors this year use isn't as aggressive as the Nick Nurse system of previous years and GTJ still averages a steal per game, on fewer fouls, whilst statistically a better percentage rebounder than ever in his career.
Systems play a big part of the changes and with the additions of IQ and Gradey Dick, it's only natural that he would be getting fewer shots as he isn't the only spacing option on a team. Hasn't fallen off, more is being used in different circumstances on a rebuilding team, under a new coach
If you watch OKC games, Giddey is a good gritty player. He is in a slump and finding his way on the team. OKC will keep him.

Have a look at his recent highlights. Giddey needs to be more aggressive and eliminate his errors, but he's integral to the Thunder's winning formula, and I think he'll be an all-star eventually.

The Giddey take is a joke, and makes it easy to skip this channel. Giddey’s stats are completely comparable to his previous seasons per 36 minutes on a team where he has a far different role. I’m pretty sure Daigneault understands Giddey’s contributions a lot better than the talking heads who think he’s done at barely 21.
If cap considerations end up pushing OKC to trade him (they aren’t going to give up on him because he’s too good) they will get a major haul and still probably regret it. Pop would take him in a heartbeat.

Actually disagree with your take on bey, I’m a hawks fan so I watch pretty much every game and he is a great role player aside from his pretty abysmal shooting. Defense has improved a lot from when we first got him (still not exactly great but definitely looks like he is getting better) and his hustle is unbelievable. Always crashing the glass. If he does dribble it’s usually just to get to the rim. Pull ups only make up about 14% percent of his shot attempts
I feel the same. Saddiq is like tops in the league in corner 3 pt attempts but he's been ass at hitting them. Quin hammered out the stupid mid range pull ups from his game and he's been physical in getting to the paint far better than in Detroit. Giddey should not start or share a significant amount of minutes with Shai. Playing Giddey in a reduced role where he controlled the offense off the bench would benefit him much better. Obviously, you're still concerned about his shooting, but he can be used better than an "off-ball" player who needs the ball to he effective.
His scoring is down because his teammates are scoring more. Giddy is primarily a playmaker.
The problem for Giddey is that he is a primary ball handler not an off the ball shooter. He either no long has a role available for him in OKC given the growth of the big 3 or he isn't being used correctly. Certain to flourish on a team where he can be the primary initiator.

I think Giddy has a great career in front of him...just on another team. He definitely looks like the odd man out of that young group. He's actually shot the ball a lot better as of late, the issue is, as you alluded to, there's just more talent on the roster now and he's a guy who needs the ball in his hands more to provide value.

Giddey is largely due to playtime. Hes down 8mpg or something and they have alot of guards who are just great shooters too. I see him being traded to avoid the salary crunch coming.

Yeah which will be good for both teams I think. Trade him for someone like Caruso or chase a veteran like Pat Bev etc. Gives some experience for the thunder and say the Bulls gives them a current replacement for Lonzo Ball to play a similar role to he did there.
Or a really good landing spot for him right now is the Spurs. A really good passing guard to pair with Wemby next season. Similar age too. Plus he'll have some playoffs experience after this season.

Not surprised about Giddey's numbers. Too many mouths to feed and he doesn't fit the system too well, though he has been playing better as of late. Also doesn't help he had those allegations against him which we will never get the answers to at this rate (did he meet her at a club or not!?). Though if the Thunders are fine with his current role then there's no issue considering they're the #1 seed in the West.
