    With the way this pack is made i think you could do a non destructive mod that would allow you to put a jack in the pack that would be removable then use a simple cable to connect.

      I haven't tried but I doubt it. I wouldn't advise to try it unless you know everything about Li-ION battery charging and the Bosch 12v system charging specification. Don't switch plus and minus to charge !
      Generic chargers are cheap and charge fast : tinyurl.com/yx7zuufc. If you have any 12v power tool that comes with a charger, you can consider using that tool's battery and charger, provided you find an battery-adapter.

    Hi Old Rags. Very impressed, but have you tried to go direct from your Bosch 12V battery into the supplied power transformer fitting in the amp? I did this successfully using a lithium 9V battery into a 9V Roland RX cube. Very interested if you tried this. Cheers Eric

    • @oldRagsBlues

      I have tried it in the past and it does work, however I think there were sound problems at high volume (not 100% sure I remeber correctly). The original power supply is rated 13.5V.

      The issue is most probably the mA requirement. The correct voltage is one thing a how many milliamps I can deliver is the other important thing. It sound like to power source/battery couldn’t deliver enough milliamps

    Did you have any problem with depleting the batteries and rendering them dead? or does the battery check meter work good from the amp as a reader for that?

    • @oldRagsBlues
      @oldRagsBlues  2 роки тому

      Good point Matt, there is no protection built into these batteries, meaning you could over-discharge them with the amp.
      If I recall correctly, the battery meter on the amp can be used to know when to recharge.

    Inside that battery are simple Li-ion cells so you could buy 8 of them with a big enough capacity and charge them even with your tool charger. No need to have this replacement part with battery sticking outside...

    Hey old rags,
    Have you had any problems with defective adapters (the ones where you put the batteries in)?
    I have build it like this:
    I mounted an extra jack into the cube whose wiring goes to exactly those pins where the wires from the original batteries go (all inside on the pcb). Then I soldered an extra connection cable from that jack to the bosch battery adapter. So they are very easy to unplug, good for carrying.
    Problem: I have destroyed 3(!!!) of these adapters already. They seem to be very sensitive when switching the amp on or off. Probably a voltage surge.
    Have you encountered this problem as well?
    Thanks.

    • @oldRagsBlues
      @oldRagsBlues  2 роки тому

      Hi Jake
      I'm not sure what "normal" means here, but I guess you could say the battery I am using is a "normal" 12v lithium battery.

  • @jpjay1584
    @jpjay1584 Рік тому

    do these batteries shut off at low voltage?
    if not you will destroy them. (incl explosion while charging)
    they must be protected against over-discharge.

    • @christophwalker1219
      @christophwalker1219 Рік тому

      Good point !
      No, the batteries have no over-discharge protection. I have already destroyed some. Luckily, they are cheap, especially the generic ones.
      The roland has a battery indicator, when there is only one light left, the battery should be recharged. I suppose it shouldn't be too complicated to add an electronic module to the adapter to protect against over-discharge.

    • @tepouogle969
      @tepouogle969 9 місяців тому +1

      Hmm.. do normal rechargeable AA batteries that fit into the Roland cube battery pack shut off at low voltage? I don't think so..
      I use Energizer AA batteries for all sorts of things and eventually they go flat, but then ya charge them up again. That's always been normal to do with AA li-ion batteries. There's never been any warning regarding over discharge of these AA batteries? 🤷
      I've used these Energizer rechargeable AA batteries in my cube ex, and Bluetooth for my electric guitar for years

    I am wondering how fragile it is. It's really "out there" - meaning, exposed. It could get accidentally knocked, kicked or moved against a wall too hard or something might happen when transporting it. Yes, i know we should be careful, but accidents do happen. Any comments, please? Could an enclosure be built around the battery?

    • @oldRagsBlues
      @oldRagsBlues  3 роки тому

      Hi ! The metal-clip holding the battery-holder is quite sturdy, I wouldn't be afraid to take it to the street. The entire Street Cube EX with the mounted adapter still fits into the official Roland carrying bag, that would protect it for travel, or simply taking it out for travel would work too.
      If all of that's not doing your trick, I'm sure you could build an enclosure to improve things.

    • @oldRagsBlues

      1) They are expensive (the empty plastic will set you back about 25 bucks, and you have to buy NIMH batteries on top).
      2) That pack will last up to 2 hours tops.
      3) When you want to charge that pack, you have to unscrew 4 screws, open the pack, charge the 8 (!) batteries, and then do the same in reverse. Charging the drill's battery pack is a much faster and easier move.

      @@oldRagsBlues Is that because the Amp needs a bigger battery to compensate for the they extra draw on electrical current? In which case I'm wondering whether a Powerbank would provide more juice eg from a 36,000mAh Power Bank.

    On another video somebody's taking off the CUBE logo that they stupidly put right over a sound hole that seriously impairs the sound quality and function of said hole.
    IT'S at the top end price wise for a busking amp but it's really got too many
    glitches that ougbt to have been ironed out at the testing stage...it kinda sucks that Roland haven't been bothered to go the extra mile...at £500 and rising Roland need.to respect and honour their customers and not expect customers to undertake alterations concerning flaws regarding basic functions... This isn't people swapping out a new guitars pick ups for a favourite brand or type..
    This is errors of design choices that caused poor quality, and a poorly functioning. product..
    Wise up Roland you need to fix these basic errors before You launched this or any Roland product...THEY'VE GOT TO WORK WELL FOR THIS MONEY!!!

    they haven't done their snagging ..
    It's putting me right off..
    It's appalling treatment of the customers. .
    It's not good at all...
    This kinda thing is totally the designers responsibility
    Any one else agree !?
