Thanks for watching and supporting, it truly means a lot. What do you guys think about Smart Locks and have you considered buying one? If not, please comment below. I'd be curious to know why. Timestamps are in the description so feel free to skip around.
Nice review, I fitted it to a multi point composite door without any major issues, I had to drill a hole for the data cable. It seems to work well. However as I usually usually leave my door unlocked during the day when I'm at home, I have to have the lock set it passage mode to achieve this, but if I want to go out, I either have to go into the app and lock the handle using the app or take it out of passage mode. What it needs is a button on the inside which will lock or unlock and a button on the outside that will lock the handle. It wouldn't be hard for the manufacturer to do the second by a firmware update to say make the star button on the key pad activate the lock.
@@ManchesterTechGuy You can make it to not lock once you unlocked it. Then by pushing the door handle upwards from any side of the door you can lock it.
Manchester Tech Guy, this video was done 10 months ago. Any regret buying this? Your video is excellent and has convinced me that it may be a the lock I need but I am not sure as to durability. Kudos to you for installing it yourself I may have to get so locksmith to do it.
It's working flawlessly after 10 months. It's super durable and all of the features are working as expected. The fingerprint scanner is just as fast as it was at the start, keypad and wireless fobs also work without issue.
Hi, battery life has been pretty decent. I haven't really counted the entries per day, but I usually average around 4 - 8 entries per day and the battery lasts roughly 6 - 8 months. I'm using rechargeable batteries
Thanks for that review. It helped me to answer a whole bunch of questions about installation on a wooden door that I had huge difficulty finding out elsewhere. I now know that the woodworking involved is well within the capabilities of a competent amateur (myself). I know I can buy this lock with confidence. I'm assuming that the lock does not come with a strikeplate to put on the doorframe. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I've actually received the item now. Thanks for the review. Helped me to decide to buy this item. One question to you as someone who has installed this though: The power cables that connect the two sides are quite long - far longer than the thickness of the door anyway. Do I need to chisel / route some space into the door to allow space for these cables once it's all tidied up? My door is solid wood.
Thank you for the detailed installation video, after watching it i decided to buy 2, I have one question though, can i use any 3rd party rfid tag with this lock? considering its ISO14443A and 13.56MHZ?
Great video. It helped give me the confidence to choose and install my own Ruveno. Thank you! You may have found the following already, but... One thing that I found on my Ruveno RUS31B latchbolt (your video @4:12 to 4:35), is that the latchbolt can be reversed without taking the faceplate off. There is a little lever on the body of the lock that you can toggle, which allows you to fully retract the latchbolt in to the body, and then rotate it. Also, the middle section of the latchbolt, I think, should be poking through the faceplate, and not sticking out the side of the lock. That is how the official Ruveno video shows it installed. Otherwise, I found out to my confusion, if the mortice hole is tight (19mm cut), then the mechanism gets interfered with by the latch bit (incorrectly?) sticking out the side of the body. I am not sure what this middle bit does. I have just noticed that another comment mentions this is 'anti friction'. Also, maybe it stops someone slipping something in to spring the latch.
Hey Rob, glad I could help with the video and thanks for the kind words. Ah, I didn't realise I could turn it without taking the faceplate off. Useful to know for potential future installs.
@@ManchesterTechGuy I don't think I can reply with pictures, but here is a link which may show it okay: ua-cam.com/video/L3n6nPPfpxg/v-deo.html At time 10 to 15 seconds, this sequence shows how to rotate the latchbolt. Just at the end, at ~15seconds, after they have rotated it, you can see the latchbolt springing out past the faceplate to the new position. They make sure that the middle part of the latchbolt (the bit between the "SUS" and "304" letters/numbers) is on the outside of the faceplate. The latch will be sprung out all the time, except when you turn the handle to retract the latch.
@@Maob999 Ah, I see what you mean. The middle bit on mine isn't sticking out like they've shown. I don't think it makes a difference since it still locks fine.
The latch has a plastic central pre-latching assist, which helps the door close nicely. I think when you reversed the handing on the lock you omitted to position this correctly. But never mind, otherwise a good video.
Hi, as long as you don't use the WiFi bridge that gives you remote access, the points of entry will be minimal. Probably about as secure as a normal front door lock. Can't say for sure since I'm not a lock expert.
A very informative and inspiring video. Is it possible to retain the existing euro lock cylinder with this ir do you have to use the cylinder and key supplied? I dont know whether chinese locks are security rated or acceptable to insurance companies. Do you get notifications when the lock is opened/locked, for example when your kids arrive home from school, or if it is tampered with, someone trying to open it with the handle, trying a code or fingerprint perhaps? Can keycards be disabled remotely from within the app, for example if you lost the card or wanted to prevent access by a particular card temporarily/permanantly?
Very interesting! That certainly looks like a secure lock. I am an artist and I share my painting demos and studio visits here. So much variety on UA-cam. Have a great day!
Really good video, I have bought this in black but not installed it as I'm waiting for my new front door to be fitted. With regard to the gap on the inside handle, should there be another screw installed within the battery compartment?
Hi Will, thank you. I did have a look behind the battery compartment and there isn't any visible screw hole like there is at the bottom of the handle. The instructions show that you can secure the top as well, but I looked at both sides of the handle and I couldn't see anything I could use to bring the handle closer to the door. The gap is very minimal and it isn't noticeable at all, unless you really look for it. Let me know how your installation goes and if you found a way to screw in the top bit.
@@ManchesterTechGuy ua-cam.com/video/DnceMfRGzP4/v-deo.html skip to 10mins in and it shows how to install the top screw. The installation instructions that come with the lock aren't great.
Not sure if it's just me, but the dead bolt doesn't move unless you lift the handle from inside the property. Is this correct? Presumably, therefore, the only way to lock it is with the mechanical key. Whereas currently the 'locked' status just disengages the front door handle.
Smart lock should of really been supplied with a 45mm backset lock case, 35mm is only really used on upvc and composite doors, not your fault, it's what has been specified from the the Chinese manufacturer when they imported them. Good job with install tho, came out well. 🙂
Also, the latch is anti friction, there is a small part in the middle which is currently facing backwards, if you remove lock case that needs to be facing forward, it acts as a lever to withdraw latch and prolongs life of lock.
