    Quite the involved process covering the airframe, given that you have created it from metal tubing and sheet metal. Should look stunning when you get it finished. Being old and much more impatient than in my youth, I would probably just skin as much as I could with as thin a guage aluminum as is safe. But that is just lazy old me. I truly admire your dedication here.

    so many little covering tips, details, and things in your videos I've never seen other people show, explain, nor demonstrate before. Watching your videos makes me less and less worried about learning and doing fabric covering. I want to build a Pietenpol, and fabric is the part I feel least confident about. I've done the basic EAA Oshkosh workshops, and they praised my work during them, but we only covered Very simple basics. We didn't cover most of the things or situations you showed in these videos. I have all the recommended books for Homebuilding and A&P. But your videos help me to have a better idea what to expect, what to practice, what to research more, etc.

      My suggestion, build a couple of practice pieces, or picture frames and a curved one and learn your trade, it’s rewarding. Learn you iron as well.

      @@scottmatthews5280 yes, I agree that is the way to do it. I liked the test piece you made. I would make some test pieces with different brackets, protrusions as well, to practice different features.
      I've got some basic upholstery projects to practice on as well, before attempting my current airplane project's seats. And I'm going to practice with composites, starting with making some small parts for my current airplane (don't need them, just using the existing parts as a pattern). I know my first few composite parts will likely be unusable, but that's the point, to learn and improve with each attempt. Start with wet layup first, and them move to vacuum bagging later. Once I get the hang of it maybe a few parts will be usable (replace some fiberglass parts with carbon fiber, see if it makes a difference or not).

    I assume this cold temperature won't have any affect on the skinning process?

      No, it’s shrunk to 350f 180c so 40 c in sumner will have little effect. Thanks

      @@scottmatthews5280 doesn't affect the adhesives, being applied in the colder temps? I assume not, as you seem to have had no problem.

    Great vid. Great series! I’m just coming up on this process for the first time in my Bearhawk build. Did you use the Stewart’s cement to glue down your rib reinforcing tape prior riveting? I assumed it had its own adhesive on the tape. Contact glue or really bed it down with heat? Thanks. Can’t wait to see this bird fly. I think it will be great fun.

      Just fibreglass tape stuck straight on to dry glue. The Stewart stuff is great, just watch all their videos on you tube if you have not already

    Hi Scott. Really enjoying these videos. Just a couple of questions. Do you require an inspection prior to doing the covering process? I was also wondering how far you were going to go with the fuselage covering given that you need room to work the electronics, engine installation, etc.? Thanks

      Yes you do, I had an inspection prior to tear down. It will be painted and finished from the pilots back all the way back. The design allows this as the front is wood then alloy.

    What about a diesel or gas heater? How safe will it be to fly that thing? Looks like a wing and a prayer.

    And, of course one needs a
    Tent, within which to conjure up a
    Flying Camel...;
    Deserts fairly
    Cry out for a Tent to be pitched,
    And Camels evolved in
    Deserts....
    Is that not so ?

    Looking good, Scott!
    Since there are multiple steps at different temperatures in ironing, it takes a lot of time, and it's easy to get lost, especially when doing the wing bays. I wrote in pencil right on the fabric which temperature and repeat step had just been finished.
    What paint system have you decided to use?

      Thanks for the tips!. Exterior house paint. Probably in low sheen, the test pots look good.

      Looks like you're setting up to spray... no advice from me there... I had to use a roller instead! (My rental hangar forbids spraying.) Good luck!

      I’ll probably roll the grey ekofill and spray the top coats. Just night to have a clean spot, lots of crap falls from the roof of my hangar.
