    Hi ROY just found your channel great stuff very informative.I come back to cycling after a 20 year gap and having a heart attack a year ago so getting fit again is a must. I'm planning rides similar to yours (but maybe not the same milage at first). Just wondering if you've done a video on tyres, I've got 28 mm marathons on my bike at the mo but thinking they might not be quite up to the job on off-road sections (canal paths ect). I'm in Cumbria so plenty of rides available, I'm my 60s and not a speed merchant! Thanks.

      @@stevea9766 you sound very much like me, Steve. I haven’t made a specific video about tyres but have referred to them in the past. I used Marathons on my Ribble and found them lacking grip when cornering in the wet - alarmingly so. I swapped them for Continental Contact Plus and my confidence in the wet has been restored. On my Tempest I run Schwalbe G1 Allround tubeless. They give the best balance between road and trail. Fortunately, I don’t do anything off road in the wet, as these have no traction on mud. I hope that helps.

      @@RideWithRoy Thanks very much Roy, much appreciated, so many tyres on the market I'm finding it a bit of a rabbit hole thanks again.

    I weigh 97 kg and the Shockstop Endurance Pro is supposed to rated to handle a rider to 110 kg. Well, I bought one today and despite it being adjusted to max preload with the hardest elastomers installed, I found it bottomed out when I sat on it. When I rode it around it was just bottomed out nearly all the time, only lifting occasionally when I rode over a big bump. Don't buy one if you are over 90 kg in weight because it doesn't work. Mine gets returned to the shop on Monday for a full refund.

      @@David-x6f they are proven to work so something is wrong, especially as the use of elastomers prevents bottoming out. If you really want the benefits you could speak with Redshift who will offer a solution, as the upper weight guide is just that, a guide.

    Interesting, great to see them innovating in this space. Do you remember mg Canyon split seat post system that I brought over last year on rode on the gravel bike I had there at the time? It was also designed for the racing cyclist who wanted some give without the bounce. It worked very well and still is super comfortable. Do they say what the elastomers are made of?

    • @RideWithRoy
      @RideWithRoy  2 місяці тому

      I asked the question about the composition of the Elastomers. Redshift, understandably, won’t give too much of the design technicalities away but could tell me they are ‘Urethane springs’ that are ‘super durable and very resistant to chemicals, abrasions, and have an almost infinite life if you do not over compress them (which we take into account in our designs)’

      Thanks for checking that out @@RideWithRoy. Interesting use of materials - really innovative. I have heard of urethane being used in compression springs, but didn't know of an application.
