Probably the highest level of tennis ever played in all time. No one could ever oppose Roger in this match. You can't play tennis better than this. The strongest Federer of all time.
@@magnetism693 So ... if you see for example the us open 2005 final with Agassi, you will see one thing: power merged with class. He at that time looked like a puma, aggressive, fast, powerful, with immense class. But if you see this match with Nadal (which in my opinion is the pinnacle along with the whole AO 2017 tournament) you will notice how his shots have improved. Perhaps, as is normal, the physical power has dropped a bit, but beware ... the power of the ball has not decreased, not the speed of the shots, which instead has actually improved. Because the timing has improved, the swing, the way he hits, the advance on impact, the position on the pitch (which never retires) and the class and elegance have increased. Roger is an example of how work always pays off. He started from an excellent foundation, incredible natural gifts, superb talent, an exceptional body ... but with the work and excellent coaches he relied on he improved and at 37 he became number 1 in the world again playing fantastic tennis , which I repeat in my opinion, unattainable for anyone. Even for him 15 years earlier. Best wishes and thanks for your question.
@@fabriziofaillace7158 100% - I've been saying the same thing: 2017 Federer (at AO, Indian Wells, and also at Wimbledon in my opinion) executed the best tennis ever played anywhere at any time.
Since 2015, Roger leads 7-1 in his H2H v Nadal. However, I think it's since 2017 Federer has totally figured Nadal outside clay. That's what is so amazing about him. He is 5 years senior to Nadal, yet, has found the way to dominate his old nemesis. I don't think he will do the same against Djokovic, but the fact that Federer is 6 years older than Djokovic makes it only natural for Djokovic to win most of the times in their matches, otherwise, that would mean Federer is simply much better than Novak. They are equal in tennis ability, so at this stage, you would expect Djokovic to win every time they play against each other. That's why, I believe Nadal is a notch below Federer and Djokovic when it comes to the discussion who is the greatest of all time. The best version of Nadal can only beat the best version of Federer and Djokovic on clay.

The biggest question is: what is meant by GOAT? Is it just GS's? Is it winning more? Or does how much you inspires 100s of millions around the world, play the most beautiful tennis, are beloved by both the fans and players etc? It's clear now that Novak is the GWOAT - greatest winner of all time (I'd put my money on him more than anyone in a crunch situation). But, for me, Roger is a supreme artist and a great winner - so, he's the GOAT.
Listening to Brad Gilbert, I really wish Roger would've played the Clay Court season in 2017. He had a legit shot of doing some huge damage against Rafa in my opinion.
Every time I watch this, I'm totally shocked at how incredibly dominant his backhand was. This was the greatest backhand performance I have ever seen. It solidifies my belief that Fed has the greatest backhand of all time. You just don't see winners hit with such ease from the backhand wing. And many of them from head height. I mean you can go down the list of great backhands and no one has this kind of performance, no one. And no one crushes Nadal from the backhand side, no one. If Roger was this good 10 years earlier, he would have easily won a calendar slam. Greatest forehand + Greatest backhand + Great serve = GOAT.

Roger commentating part of his own match, how awesome is that :) That AO 2017 win vs Rafa gave Roger so much confidence in himself against Nadal. Roger just completely dominated the match, and each time Nadal got the slightest look to start a comeback, Roger slammed the door shut. As the commentary said, even Rafa fans gotta admit that was just WAY too good from Federer. One of his top 5 performances of the year no doubt. Miss seeing these two on court, Federer retired, Nadal hasnt played in months and looks like hes about to announce his withdrawal from Roland Garros 2023 :(

Theses commentators, like all commentators recently, talk about Rogers backhand a lot. But none of them seem to pick up that Rafael's forehand becomes a liability against Roger these days. Have a look at how many forehand errors Nadal makes in this match.
Because that's what happens when your normal strategy doesn't work and you're forced to play completely outside your normal gameplan. If you have to do something all of a sudden you never do, you'll commit a ton of errors. This is exactly why Federer used to lose to Nadal so often because he used to never come over aggressively on returns, but he knew he needed to do it vs Nadal. He usually ended up bricking all sorts of returns against Nadal. Not anymore.
Well, why didn't Fed play clay in 2017 (or 2018 for that matter)? He proved at an even older age in 2019 that he could still play on that surface. Also no one was stopping Rafa winning RG 2017, it was one of his most dominant years there.
As much as a used to dislike Rafa he used to have Roger's number. But Roger started to dominate him once he developed this backhand. 7-0 since. Didn't really allow him to dominate Novak but their matches were basically ties they were so close. Personally I always thought both Roger and Novak were overall better tennis players than Rafa
