Most amazing players are not particularly good teachers. Most fantastic teachers might not be very inspiring players... you got it all man!!! My favorite guitar teacher!!!
Your choice of songs is always great. I know the song already but it sounds better more groovy when you play it. Congrats. I am a happy Patreon supporter.
Pilgrim;I have been waiting for ever for you to give us this. Robert Cray - guitarists guitarist and amazing vocalist (as are you)- and this fabulous arrangement. If it sounds like fan mail.. it is. Today is the best day.
That's exactly the type of guitar playing I enjoy most! Have been trying to incorporate it into playing with the band but this doesn't always work good. This task was accomplished successfully by legends like Hendrix or John Mayer Trio - the kind of arrangement where it works is really rare and requires a lot of skill
Wow! Awesome and I agree, learning how to play this song your way means you're already advanced guitar player, look how many skills is there involved and chords mix... wow. Just beautiful! Thanks
This is my favorite lesson by you and you’ve had some amazing offerings over the years. I’ve been a Robert Cray fan for the last 37 years. The basic rhythm (without the vamp) as you finger pick is reminiscent of some of the Bossa Nova patterns I’ve picked up along the way. It’s interesting to note how readily we can overlap genres like R&B, Funk, Blues, & Bossa Nova.
Awesome. I was learning this song a couple of days before this video came out and this really helped me improve my playing. Thank you very much for sharing.
Really nice playing there. Robert Cray was the first strat player I noticed using the 4 position on the pickups. Knew a few that were using the 2 position. So great job even including that little detail.
Oh how beautifully you play this groovy masterpiece, your Strat has the perfect tone for it. I can also imagine you playing Sultans of Swing. People would think you were Mark Knoffler from afar... 👌🤌🤘👏❤
Great song to highlight both picking and fretting hand dynamics. Also a great choice to highlight a song with rhythm and lead/solo......not different from Hendrix's strongest attributes. Also, great job of showing the "flavor" of variations, noting that tension in the right hand will restrict he picking/strumming feel. Great video!!
Now that was awesome Thom! Obviously, very complex and difficult to play. I know that you don't do much with Jazz guitar. However, you should look up Joe Pass and watch a few of his videos. One of my all time favorite guitarist! No one played like Joe! Hope that you & your family are doing well! 👍👍🎸🎸
Can you play THIS riff? Anyway you could do the James Burton lead electric guitar intro, solo and fills from the Judy Collins version of Someday Soon as found on the studio album Who Knows Where the Time Goes? NOT the Buddy Emmons Steel parts ... a LOT of vids out there on that ... but NOBODY on YT has ever done the James Burton stuff. That is a shame because this tune REALLY helped to get Country Rock rolling back in the day.
I’m interested in how you hold your pick? I’m experimenting with different ways of holding it atm. Do you hold it differently depending on the technique? I think I can see you get quite a lot of motion from your thumb whilst strumming with a pick. Great video, thanks!
Great lesson as always. I like resting my palm on the bridge and can’t get past the volume knob getting in the way. How do you avoid hitting the volume knob?
Hi Thom how are you Please man I'm begging you i have questions about you I wanna know your hands size length from line that separate your wrist from hand to top of middle finger in (cm) and if you can sent me pictures while measuring it or tell me i would really appreciate it please man I'm keeping asking this question for years I really love your channel and your guitar playing I'm a guitarists as well and that would really help me thank you 🌹✌️❤️
1:34, the first chord. what is that? I can't really see which fingers are down and which are floating? I wish he used an overlay like Scott Paul Johnson
My personal opinion has ALWAYS been that Robert Cray is the most underappreciated guitar player of the last 25 years
More like thirty to forty, I remember listening to him in the eighties and nobody knew who he was
Most amazing players are not particularly good teachers. Most fantastic teachers might not be very inspiring players... you got it all man!!! My favorite guitar teacher!!!
I didn't know Justin trudeau played guitar. Well done!
I thought the same thing!
Your choice of songs is always great. I know the song already but it sounds better more groovy when you play it. Congrats. I am a happy Patreon supporter.
👍 what he said 👍
Mr. Cray is a great craftsman. Strong rhythm, sing-a-long solos and efortless R&B singing voice.
This is some of your best work, sir. Amazing. Love it. Ashamed to say I had never heard this song
Thanks for doing this song, soulful and funky. I remember when this album came out and I was just starting to learn guitar. Thx

My favorite song from Robert Cray. Thanks! Time makes two is also a great but rather hard piece:)
His solo on I was warned is so good!
So true if one can groove with love n fun one can play
Awesome Thom! Looks very difficult, but it’s actually quite difficult. This guy always gets the thumbs up before the video starts.
😂
You’re fucking amazing, mate!!
Every time you show a song, it gives me apetite to play it.
The song is actually called "Right Next Door (Because Of Me)." Thank you for another great, detailed lesson!
Great breakdown on the song as usual! Inspirational and informative! Thank you! 👏👏👏
😱. Haven't heard that in FOREVER! Almost forgot about him. Thanks
One of his best albums 👍the last time I get burned is a beauty ❤️
Robert Cray and his band are awesome! I saw them live in Oosterpoort Groningen last year. I was blown away with how they play together.
Hey I was there too, Loved the show

This was an absolute pleasure to learn and I love your style of interpreting it and teaching it
Great playing and great technique of stowing/retrieving that pick!
Brilliant song, great playing. Some more Robert Cray would be highly appreciated😊
Good pick Guitar Pilgrim; I'm going to learn this song, for I love Robert Cray songs, and Robert Cray is a good blues singer.
I couldn’t agree more. Helemaal met je eens. Prachtig nummer en prachtig gespeeld en uitgelegd.

Really nice playing there. Robert Cray was the first strat player I noticed using the 4 position on the pickups. Knew a few that were using the 2 position. So great job even including that little detail.
Fantastic lesson about a great song. Love your gritty tone as well!
Thank you for pointing out that Cmin11 chord at the beginning, it's got a nice dissonant ring to it, funky.
Yesssss! Those 11ths are to die for. Thanks for the lovely reminder ❤

I'll have fun with this one! great video as always :)
I love the grooves ❤
If you think about it, the title of this video can apply to literally anything he could have played and it would be true.
so good...thanks for posting
So tasty!!! Your lesson on Albatross/Peter Green is top notch and so is this one on Robert Cray.
That's awesome! Not a super hard set of riffs, but VERY effective!
Great ! What a feeling, man 🤩!
Thank you very much. Wonderfull feel to it. Personally, I find it much easier to use my thumb (root) playing that cm11 bass part.
He’s a god amongst men.

I try this later
Oh dear, it seems like I can't play guitar.🤣😂. I'll just keep noodling. Keep up the great work love your channel.
You sing well, start a band!

Seems a bit creepy TBF 😮
Just make an educated guess and leave it at that. What difference could it make to know an exact measurement ?
Is that a John Mayer strat with big dippers?
Can you do a vid on paul kossoff.
Do you still play with the same rig as 4 years ago? Or do we need an update? 😃 awesome playing
Guitar rig 6
@@GuitarPilgrimwow! Do you also have a “real” amp or mostly playing via PC? De groeten van mede Hollander :)
1:34, the first chord. what is that? I can't really see which fingers are down and which are floating? I wish he used an overlay like Scott Paul Johnson
aint got long enough fingers for that, guess I can't play guitar then
I didn't watch the video Pilgrim, but the song better be "Stairway to Heaven" :)
Tom, please answer the question: what kind of pickups are on your Stratocaster?
I have no idea
@@GuitarPilgrim you are kidding
@@GuitarPilgrim, maybe Fat 50s, or Texas Special, or .. I don't know
Cm11 kicking my ass. Middle finger keeps muting A :(
