Two starkly different points of view.
    One modest moderator.
When I think about similar televised debates these days
🤔Well I can't think of any at the moment..
One thing I was reminiscing about, was my mother in law passed away in a hospice three years ago.
    They were the kindest people.
A couple of local clubs had financed a "Jolly Trolley" - something akin to what you would see on an aeroplane.
Mother in law enjoyed a glass of Coke for the first time in ages.
    I said to her doctor,
"She's been on a strict diet till now."
    Doctor smiled.
"Well," he replied, "They don't need strict diets anymore.
    They know where they're going."
Slightly macabre, but very politely worded.
    "Oh.. Yeah."

Yes, it's very funny in places, gossipy but quite somber at times, e.g. how he reported the Thompson-Bywaters case and his pacifist campaigning. He was a kaleidoscopic character, but like so many who are determined to be in the swim, he suddenly found in middle age that the swim had left him stranded. There is something sad about a Bright Young Person who publishes an autobiography at 25 and has too little to say about the next 25.

And they say that THESE days are the the golden age of television? One of the best uses of "public airwaves" I've ever seen. Mavis on Morals Season 2, 2021! Make it happen!

Mugg always wore the same green corduroy jacket in later years as an outward and visible sign of his latter-day holiness!

When he told him to die with dignity he had to forgive his father... That was rough, I would've come close to walking out at that point.

How on earth did MM get a reputation as a great thinker? All his analogies would not pass muster in a school debating club.

Television once allowed Christians to debate issues like euthanasia and abortion with those who took a diametrically opposing view & treated both sides with respect. Unfortunately, every Debating society in every school today would treat them with the type of derision you display. You condescend - but you missed the point.
