    In this video I pot up my Baobab (Adansonia digitata) into a bonsai pot. Baobabs are indigenous to a couple of countries in Africa as well as Australia. They need to be protected against cold temperatures below 10°C (50F) and should not get a single drop of water when they don't have any leaves on them.
    Pay close attention when you watch the Lion King again, because the tree that Rafiki lives in is a Baobab tree. You can also see the fruit hanging on his staff. It is also the fruit he breaks when he smears it on baby Simba.
    Thank you for watching!

    Brilliant video mate. I learnt so much about this tree! Hard choice on that potato root but I feel like you made the right one. It would be cool to get another tree from the root cutting! Please do an update on this tree at the end of the growing season 👍

    • @KleinBonsai

      Unfortunately none of the cuttings made it. The cuttings pushed out new leaves but then it all fell off and died. The main tree is still alive and growing well. I also baught a new big Baobab that I can get new cuttings from and try again 😁🌳🌞🌱

      Thanks! 😊 I use a pre-mix soil I get from a bonsai nursery. I am not sure what is in it. Next time I am there I'll try and remember to ask. Just make sure that the soil you use is very free draining. Baobabs easily gets root rot if the roots stay too wet 🌳☀️

    Nice video. Just a question - Why did you not wire the plant to the pot?

    • @KleinBonsai
      @KleinBonsai  Рік тому +2

      Thanks! It is not needed. I've never wired any of my trees into the pot. We don't get a lot of wind, and if we do it is not strong winds at all. It won't be able to blow my trees over. If my trees are a bit unstable in the pot, I'll place a rock on top of the soil 🌳😊

    Any updates on the cuttings now? I started one Baobab from seed 1 year ago, live in Norway so it is very difficult to care for it during winter months. If the cuttings work a will try it myself when my tree is big enough

    • @KleinBonsai
      @KleinBonsai  Рік тому

      The cuttings did have leaves on them, but they didn't grow. It is winter now so they are just tiny sticks in a pot at the moment. I'll have to wait until Spring to know for sure if they rooted

    Hello! I am looking for tips with my Baobab trees. I live in a cold climate up north so the trees are inside and have lost their leaves for winter (dry season). i have not watered them without leaves but I am wondering what causes them to begin to leaf again? is it temperature or humidity or something else? I am also wondering when is the best time to repot them is as they are all in their original seed pots and most likely need new soil to be happy. Thank you, and great video.

    • @KleinBonsai
      @KleinBonsai  Рік тому

      Hi! It sounds like it might be too hot inside and it is breaking dormancy. Try keeping it around 10°C-15°C over winter. The best time to repot is in Spring when the buds are swelling 🌞🌳😊

    I wonder what's wrong with my Baobab. It grew double the size of this tree in just 5 months 🤔

    • @KleinBonsai
      @KleinBonsai  10 місяців тому

      Doesn't sound like a problem, if that is your goal 😂 As soon as you pot a tree, the growth will slow down. Also after repotting a tree might not grow a lot while recovering and adjusting to the new pot. Placement also plays a big role. Is your tree in the ground or much bigger pot? 🌳🌱🌞

    • @hg6996
      @hg6996 10 місяців тому +1

      @@KleinBonsai Actually it's just in a normal pot. But I gave him good soil and it had lots of sun and heat. He seems to like that a lot.
      I didn't want him to grow that fast but wanted to give him good growing conditions.
      I guess I overdid it a bit 🙄

    • @KleinBonsai
