Taken with my phone on a particularly brisk day a couple of years ago. My fingers were not happy about that decision. Some of our professional associates use that particular picture as a warning on social media to scare people from going on nature trails on their own in severe weather conditions.
So, I thought it would be fun to submit it here :D
Great photo!

Aw, thanks! :D
Who thinks these guys should have Camera Conspiracies on their show?! I do
I have no idea how this dynamic would work, but it'd be great! Better than Jared Polin.....
It would so uncomfortably awkward but hilarious at the same time. Please make this happen.
If he was in character it would make my cry!
Chelsea: "So Mr Conspiracy, what do you think of this composition?"
CC: "It reminds me of depressed peacock skin flakes on a frosty summers morning..."
Chelsea: ".............well I guess its.... ah...yeah ...... I would probably turn down the highlights slightly.."
It got to the 30's where I live in Northern Florida.
Love the dog running towards camera
Great show, I really enjoy it. 2 million subscribers before 2020. I have no doubt.
Tony Northcrop took it to a totally new level at 15:36 😂 That's great! Actually it looked pretty good in that short amount of time.
Chelsea speaking on yogurt and spoons proves that she really is the coolest youtuber of all :)
Hey! I have a m43 mirrorless by Panasonic and i hope you guys have some positive things to say for a change about my love for panasonic. I love my little camera
The high rez shot does only capture two 24MP full RGBG captures, but they're offset by 1/2 pixel from one another in X and Y, thus, they're interstitially aligned. So that can't be represented as a normal X x Y image as-is. So they interpolate to 2x the pixel count. Thanks to the color, it's probably better than a 48 megapixel Bayer shot, but not a real 96 megapixels, depending on the exact details of their computations. Back when Fujifilm had their 45-degree, "diamond" pattern sensors, they have the same issue -- the raw image was an interstitial matrix, and had to be doubled to deliver a normal image.
The picture of the horse is my favorite.
hi tony i would like to ask you question about longevity of camera life span of camera specially between panasonic s1 and sony a7 mark 3
Can you guys do a video on using a Sony mirrorless with Canon or Nikon glass?
Really sorry I missed this one, I've got a 'blind squirrel' shot that would have been right on topic.
18:08 I'd like to add: just make sure that you use a mirrorless camera or live view on a DSLR. Don't look or even zoom in at the sun while looking through an optical viewfinder!
Dang-it, I missed it. I just took a winter photo yesterday too.
Chelsea's eyebrows are always on fleek thumbs up lol💯
Northern Lights.. Hey guys, check out the Yukon for February. There's dog sled races, and rides. Plus you get to see epic Aurora.. There's a kp 4-5 Feb 18-21. Just a thought..
Hi guys! There's a gadget on kickstarter, called Arsenal, that supposedly makes the perfect settings so that you would take the perfect shot each time. Would you make a review for it?
Tony, I think your filter melted because the focal point was close to the same position as the filter. The image on the sensor is past the focal point and less concentrated, therefore less likely to damage your sensor. Also the eclipse is not brighter that the full sun, it's darker, you just still shouldn't look at the sun directly. Eclipses are dangerous because during totality it's fairly safe to look, but you may still be staring at it as the sun reappears.
no other video on S1 or S1R?
We needed a week with no guest after last week with Jared Polin. A shower too.
You guys just lost out on some great Nothern lights nights in the snow in Iceland. Was freezing my arse off just outside Reykjavík last night. But rather windy and hard to get long exposures with trees in the compositions. Will be shooting my dogs in the snow after watching this. Sadly... I got the EOS-R right now so really crappy in those situations... with 2.5 fps in focus... Cross my fingers I guess....
Beautiful and in the right size, better grip ,not as small as Nikon, Sony and Fuji.
Litterally lol'd at Chelsea's comment about relationships and being ready to punch, caught me off guard when reviewing a photo of a sweet couple.
Didn't you guys used to stream in 4K? I haven't watched the show in awhile was there a change for some reason that I missed? thanks.
I'm slightly disappointed this live show was sprung on us last minute. I prefer it when you set the theme a week in advance so I can try to get a photo of that theme during the week. Thank you for the heads up on the next two weeks at the start of this show.
Yeah sorry, we suck at scheduling stuff. BUT, next week is travel photography with Matt Granger.
Can someone please tell me what the difference in the end result be if I use the exposure on my cheap Canon camera vs using the Exposure slider in LR/PS?
And would it make a difference if I was using a nice FF camera like a A7R2?
In other words, what's the difference between in-camera, and doing it in post editing?
+Durst
Your camera can't capture the full range of visible light in a single picture. What you do when you snap a picture is to make a choice of what range of light you want to capture (this is called dynamic range). Even with post editing, you can't get information that isn't there. If the pixel got over-exposed to light (what we call clipping the highlights), that information is gone. If the darkest part of your picture has more noise than signal, that information is gone. So, it's always better to select your exposure with purpose before you take the picture, even if you shoot RAW.
A FF camera will generally have more dynamic range than crop sensor cameras. But your choice of camera gear should be based on what limitations you find you want to free yourself from, rather than just buying more expensive gear because of the coolness factor. You can work your way around many limitations, after all.
You already have all the data you're going to get when you take your shot. The slider in Lightroom just brightens or darkens what you already have, including any of the noise that's in the shot. That's why 99% of the time, a shot taken at ISO 6400 but with the correct exposure in camera will look better than an underexposed shot at a lower ISO brought up in Lightroom. (Outliers being bright midday sun shots which can be done at ISO 100 and a camera with good dynamic range can have its shadows brought up with less of a quality impact.) You also can't get back anything that's just completely gone, like totally black shadows or blown highlights, so you really need to get those in camera. A camera with more dynamic range will be better at retaining more of that information. Of course, you can definitely pull some things back and it's amazing what modern cameras can do, but you're always losing *something* if you don't get it in camera. It's just not always noticeable.
In terms of noise and image smearing, at a lower ISO, you're unlikely to notice too much of a difference if you get it right in camera. At a higher ISO, that's when the bigger pixels of a full frame sensor really stands on its own. Of course, a 6 or 7 year old full frame camera could potentially be worse than a newer crop sensor one in terms of noise due to processing advancements, but in general, full frame will give you less noise and more dynamic range because of the bigger pixels.
And yes, despite it being a little old at this point and despite the resolution, an A7RII would blow a cheap Canon camera out of the water with a good piece of glass in front of it, if for nothing else, because of the price and technology difference. (That BSI sensor in the A7RII really helps at high ISOs.)
Too bad there aren't any books out there that cover all this that would show you how to take stunning digital pictures...
Check out Mike Smith's video on ISO invariance. Short answer: in raw on canon shoot as close as possible to ideal ISO, in Sony raw ISO is irrelevant within a large range, say 100-5000 and then 5000 to max. The photos will look the sane whether boosted in camera or in post.
@@RealRaynedance That's pretty nonsense because ISO does not effect the sensibiliy of the sensor. It amplifies the signal (and the noise) over the whole range AFTER exposure had been done! Except from downstream noise which should tend toward zero in our days (ISO invariance) in post processing you can amplify SELECTIVELY!
you guys should go to Newfoundland, Canada visit Bay Verde great photos, Icebergs, Puffins and breaching whales and seals. Plus scenery and sunrise and sunsets etc.
I think Panasonic has to hope that Sigma brings most of their lineup on the market with a L-mount, because otherwise the lens selection at launch seems pretty...limited.But it propably isn't unlikely as Sigma is part of the "L-mount alliance" (dat name tho). Anyhow starting with a 24-105 f4 and 70-200 f4 seems like a good move so that this systems covers at least most of the important focal length ranges. If Sigma can fill the f2.8 gaps with their glass I think they could get away with it. But 2300$ for the 50 f1.4 is pretty darn high pricing.
Hopefully the camera bodies are at least on par with Sony/Nikon offerings. FF 4k 60 sounds good but most Panasonic people propably want to now about codecs, OSDs (Waveform/Vectorscope, maybe False Color?), LUTs, LOG modes or even RAW like on the Nikons. Until we get that info I'm going to stay sceptic. (As a M43 user enjoying these advanced video features)
What do you guys and girls think? What are your hopes and worries on the S1(R) and is their a market for them?
I got low expectations, some things they do right, some things they do wrong, and every manufacturer does this. They won't make the perfect camera because they want you to buy the next one too. Anyway I don't have the money for any new ff camera, but I think it's good there is a bit more competition for that sensor size.
I wonder if we get to design our own camera body some day, given the progress in 3d printing. One positive thing I noticed on their lenses is a clutch focus ring, like Olympus has on their lenses. Also it's rumoured that it has 5.5 stops of IBIS, so nearly as much as the GH5!
A big high-eyepoint finder would be a great feature, probably at slight added manufacturing cost. It has been a while since one was last available, which is surprising as so many users must wear glasses.
I can't afford them but even if I could, no flippy tilty screen. I'll continue being happy with my G9 and G85 and ton of m43 glass.
as always, entertaining. Where's the Matt Granger episode? it was referenced but I dont see it either here or on his tube. no, I'm not drinking excessively.
I bet the Panasonic S1 has " The Worlds Fastest Autofocus"
And maybe 100fps 😂

@@freequest haha 😂. Yeah, that 100fps only works at freezing conditions
Panasonic has a bad reputation as far as autofocus goes.

Sounds like the best Pany can do at this stage is play 2nd fiddle to Sony on their first FF attempt.
I guess you guys burst my bubble as I have such high expectations of this camera.
I wish the live streams would happen at a different time. Or that you could submit photos before the stream at a link so you didn’t have to upload them at the same time as the live stream..
if you want to keep your lens from fogging up, just keep your lens outside and put a towel over it to keep moisture off of it. Don't take it in the house until you are done. I was taking pictures of the eclipse and stupidly forgot and took it in the house mid-shoot, boy was I sorry.
It’s a paradox, Chelsea is simultaneously the coolest and the hottest YT-er!
Good timing to start watching your vid guys...its just came over very bleak and started snowing in N.E.England(#Northumberland border ...the REAL England)
Mix it up.. Go see the less popular but equally beautiful southern lights in Tasmania where it isn't anywhere near as cold.
Shhhhhh Don't tell them about Tasmania, it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth, we wouldn't wanna turn it into an instagram phenomenon like Iceland is :D

Chelsea may be cool, but Tony has the "chill'.
short: my cam shoot blurred in OVF and sharp in Live view... any inputs?
Yep. You nudged the dioptre. The first time it happened to me, I got a mild panic attack, thinking for a minute my vision was going down the drain. The dioptre is meant to compensate for people who normally use glasses. It's neat.
Fix: There's a little wheel with a plus/minus right at the viewfinder. Turn the wheel until the world is 8K again.
Are the focus points appearing blurry too? if so check your viewfinder dioptre setting.

The only Sony thing that I own is an AV 5.1 Receiver I bought as a student back in '98. Also I've spent more than 6k on Fuji gear. But, I must say that Sony has smashed the FF competition with the price and specs of the a7III, something that is very obvious now, after the release of the Panasonic S1.
What a revelation.
To the dismay of 1999's Al Gore, it's COLD during the last week of January.
I can't wait for the August Stream, when Tony & Chelsea tell us "It's HOT!"
Apparently you laboured under the misapprehension that this video was a 'Top 10 Amazing Facts Of The Week' type video.

I love my Nikon z7

The new Panasonic don’t seem like they have any killer features that are going to change anything or good value to undercut. But I think people we go easier on them because they are not CaNikon and I hope the survive because it’s a brave investment and the right one if they can bring something to the party
Chris Burkard next :)
You seem confused about the megapixels so let me explain this to you. If you take a photo the take one shifted half a pixel left, down and then left and down you will get 4 times the resolution from the sensor. Now whether this is useful in the real world is another question, but you can’t say that quadrupling the pixel count is just a lie.
Not fair to only allow snowy photos for the winter show. A lot of places experience harsh winters without any snow. The show should have been called "Snowy Photos" :P
Sacramento, CA is 66 degrees.
Shasta County is 69 degrees Farenheit, but then, this county is usually as hot as Death Valley in the summer, so, no surprise here.

Sounds like Panasonic is doing what Nikon did. Bodies first, lenses second.
Manufacturers must expect photographers will get the body and start with one or two lenses and then build on their collection of lenses. But photographers have unique preferences, so their preferred lense might not be available if they are released slowly.
Part of why I didn't go for a Nikon Z camera and jumped ship to Sony. I get that.
I changed to Sony, but they did the same.
Sigma will make all of it lenses avaiable for L Mount
Something to keep in mind abput Sony: the e mount in the begining was designed for APS-C.
I agree it doesn't change the fact that they finally succeeded recently to deliver superb G master gems.
We'll see what will be out for the L-mount but already seems promising.

If Panasonic S1 is really 2500$ it's a very good price. I was expecting it more than 3000$. Considering it's from Pany it will get all the good menu system, video and focusing aids, same robust, dependable and rigid body, probably the only problem could be the video record limit (am not entirely sure on that), otherwise it should excel on everything over GH5/s. As far as contrast AF is concerned am not dependent on it, neither many pros who love GH5. Having said that, Contrast AF will only improve over the passage of time and is not as much dependent on any hardware implementation, but algorithmic enhancements. I can see why Pany is so reluctant to move away from their DFD contrast AF.
To me there is no serious cons to this system. Only time will tell if there is any IQ related issues, otherwise it all looks kool!
thanks moo for your response mate.
on a different note though, on dpreview we got the specs of this camera, and by the looks of it, it supports no time-limit videos, unless you are shooting at highest specs, i.e 4k/60p
so it seems like a perfect match for me!
I really like your videos but you shouldn't have included S1 topic on this, before the launch. A couple of minutes of speculation are not your style. Get your hands on it and tell us your opinion!
Get Chase Jarvis or Ben Von Wong on the show. Matt Granger is creepy af.
