    Stop watering golf courses during the summer in the West, this water shortage will cause famine if we don't learn to use water for necessities only.

      Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏👏. We all had to sacrifice and lots of people had to go on lockdown and lose their jobs to save lives during Covid… I think the golfers can sacrifice to save fellow citizens. Our entire economy depends on water. However, my guess is that with golf being an expensive past time, the one per centers will prevent this from happening… It should be mandatory gray/reclaimed water at least

      @@42svb58 what’s not practical about shutting down golf courses and car washes? Both aren’t necessary at all. It’s ridiculous to send so much water towards something like golf, I can’t imagine more than 1% percent of people even play golf.

    • @42svb58
      @42svb58 3 роки тому +2

      @@Antmandidit It is wasteful but the discussion is about policy development based on root causes. Privatization of water sources typically shift attention downstream (i.e. end-users). Instead, the reality is that industries are the pre-dominant utilizers of blue water so things like banning watering lawns in Phoenix in the middle of a summer day would not be significantly impactful.

Current developments just make them even safer and cleaner than in the past. Also, uranium is mined in America, cutting the cost of shipping, which is already the smallest part of the cost. And mining rare elements in China to make solar panels only means that you have shipped the emission to China, it doesn't make them disappeared. Algae fuel doesn't even come close to be on the list of viable option.

    Answer: Shade the saturated soils. "Holistic Remediation"

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 3 роки тому

      That only works if the soils are saturated, during a drought, the soils are often not saturated in the first place, plus there is the scale of how much surface area would need to be covered. Covering the soil often with mulch is often down to prevent the soil from drying further but the practicality decreases quickly, the larger the fields are. Mulching may work for small gardens and perhaos fir say where berries or grapes are grown as their field size is already limited by the hand harvesting they require but they really can't do this with a corn field, wheat field, or canola field as those fields are just too large.

      @@lilaclizard4504 Look, they showed on the news, a farmer in BC spreading mulch around his raspberry plants and he said, it wouldn't do much good as the soil was already too dry. Clearly the "Holistic" techniques are known but they require that there be some moisture in the soil to begin with and they are not thought to be any more than a last ditch attempt at trying to save the plants. Ground cover can only slow down the loss of moisture, not stop or reverse it. It simply isn't the answer, rain is the answer.

      @@johnwang9914 & just to be clear, spreading mulch around plants AFTER the moisture is already gone from the soil is NOT in ANY way related to holistic management! Holistic management means you don't ever let the land reach that point of no moisture left in it!
      I also suggest you look up NSF (Natural Sequence Farming) to understand the saturation of soils system, done extensively with the help of beavers in North America. Not good for hydro power though, as it's retaining all water on the farm for future use instead of letting it run off into rivers & dams

      We already get about 20% of our electricity from Nuclear, but it has been on the decline because of short-term cost and fear. The tech has improved substantially over the years and it is the best option for the base load, while wind and solar can supplement peaks in demand.

Modern nuclear tech would be so much better than the ones built in the 70s. It's really the answer, it's clean and carbon positive, and really answers all our needs. Anything else is just beating around the bush.

      @@progressivedragon6664 Nuclear power has the least CO2 per energy produced, and has the fewest deaths per unit of energy produced, of all energy sources. The waste is not a real problem, it can be buried underground, or reprocessed to separate the fission products from the uranium that didn't get a chance to fission, so it can be put back into the reactor.
      Earthquakes happen, and can affect any heavy industry, not just power generation. And as with other industries, there are scientists calculating risks according to widely accepted models. If that is a rational thing to do for non-nuclear heavy industry, then you must also accept the same for nuclear power plants.
      Instead of believing the myths about nuclear power, as if it's some black magic that humans should avoid on principle, let's instead believe in science. You might be appalled by climate change denialists, because they don't believe in science. But then you should also accept the science that nuclear power is safe and must be a part of solving climate change.
      If you are in California, you can start by joining the campaign to keep Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant going. When it closes, its roughly 2250 GW of electricity will be replaced by fossil gas.
