Love the wrenching videos Mason. You really take the intimidation out of DIY. Thanks!
Thanks for watching Scratch! It's not too bad once you get into it ;) Cheers!
This has been my favorite Farkle. When I did mine a year ago i thought how good could this be but then I rode it...and wow totally worth the $
Yeah, it's really quite amazing the difference it has made. Can't wait to really put it to the test ;)
Very nice Mason. Look forward to hearing how you like them. Thanks
First thoughts coming up Ian ;) Cheers!
I have a KLR with this same setup. It's a massive improvement for the KLR.
It sure is! Thanks for watching :)
I did Ricor Intimidators with Progressive springs. Really made a difference. After I got a buddies yz250 fork conversion. The setup was very comparable to the yz but less adjustment. I will swap the Ricor/Progressive guts with new oil into a 2009 that's like new. Then after saving some coins I'll do the same Cogent setup. Very noice👌
I did the Top Gun coil as a stop gap measure until I was able to save up for the Cogent. It got me through and I'm very happy I went with Cogent. 👍
Thanks for detailed vid Mason
Have you had a look at the fork bushes yet? I was surprised how bad mine were after 50,000km - some parts were worn through
You'll love the new suspension (I have similar from Ricor), it just goes where you point it & doesn't try to bounce you off. Power is nothing without control!
Thanks for watching!
No I haven't removed the bushings to see how they are doing yet. I'm just at 20,000 kms so It will be something I look into here in a year or so when I do my fluid again.
I couldn't agree more :) Cheers!
I did the progressive springs and the Galfer 320 brake upgrade... WOW.. what a difference ..
Yeah, it seems to have made a huge difference :) Cheers!
And just like that your done! You make it look easy! Enjoy,,,
Just like that. :) Cheers Dean!
Can't wait to hear your review of this system! You def are gonna notice it with the trails you ride each year!
It has really changed the KLR Ron. I'm looking forward to putting it through it's paces this year ;) Cheers!
Well knowledge is king, now I know how to upgrade myself. Thanks' for the excellent vid. Cheers.
Cheers John :)
I need to do something as I'm bottoming out the suspension in the woops. That Cogent Stuff is nice and has to make a big difference. When I looked up the $$$$$, reality check. Good video
Yes, that's typical. You may find the top gun coil helps with the compression but I found the shock had a hard time keeping up with the heavier spring rate and once hot, really struggled. The Cogent stuff isnt cheap but the KLR was :D We certainly didn't pay for great suspension from the factory ;) Cheers Ken.
@@masonsadv So I bit the bullet and went Top Gun rear, Race tech front springs. Huge difference. When I get better, I'll get better suspension. Keep up the good work
Good stuff! Yeah it makes a big difference 👍Nice!
Great video... I just removed my shocks and had my suspension done by an mx expert to stiffen things up, so never seen the guts of my shocks. Pretty simple stuff! Or you make it look too easy 😉
Thanks! Keep in mind that this was really just an oil change and parts addition, not a full tear down/re-valve so it isn't too complicated to do. Nothing wrong with taking them to an expert :) Cheers!
yes i wanted mine stiffer so he cut the spring and changed the spacer etc... the rear shock had broken guts inside so its night and day difference - trust the experts
Gday Masons ADV,another top shelf vid thankyou,Godbless and Love and havagreatweek Bruce and Jackie
Hey guys! Thanks for watching and I'll see you next week :)
When I installed my racetech valves and springs in my forks @ 14,000 miles I did not change the fork seals. The seals blow out at 20,000 miles half way though an 11,000 mile ride. My take away from that experience is change the fork seals when you have the forks apart. I did the cogent rear shock at the same time as the racetech valves on the forks. It was the best modification I did. I do not remember feeling a single bump all though those 11,000 miles.
Nice! A suspension upgrade makes a world of difference. My experience with fork seals is that there is no rhyme or reason to when they go but it's always at the worst moment, lol. Cheers KLRMoto
Stadium Suspension was my choice. But hey I did that mod before your 2nd gen was even in production. Great video!! Everyone should consider this mod!!! Great video Cheers!!!
Oh, for sure Rick! It's worth doing something to stiffen them up a bit :) Cheers!
Great video Mason!!! Iam going to be ordering my full cogent suspension for my 2015 klr650 here in a week or two. Keep up the great video!
Nice! I think you will enjoy it :) Cheers!
Really nice setup...Thank you for sharing Mason!
Cheers Gino :)
Another great video. Thanks. I think a lot of riders will find your way of measuring the fork oil helpful. Why the 5 weight and not the 10?
Thanks Ron :) Cogent calls for 5 wt so the thinner oil can pass freely through the OEM valving allowing the DDC to take over and do its job. Cheers!
You always make it look so easy man. Good job! Cant wait to see what you think of them.
Thanks Sean! I'm looking forward to seeing what they can handle :)
Mason. I have taken you advice and ordered Cogent rear shock for my 2022klr. I can’t wait! Question for you, i love your set up on the rear axle, you don’t use a cotter pin, where did you get that set up… or is this something you made.. i love it
Hey Grant. Yeah, I made that clip with the wire. You should be able to find one at a hardware store that is close. I did have to pass a drill bit to open the bore slightly ;)
Great video Mason. You did great
Thanks Gary. Cheers!
Can you make this change without removing the forks? I know you would have to pump out oil. Thanks
That’s going to be a great setup, can’t wait to see how it works. O I think I was 1st. 👍☕️
Yes you were Steve! haha. We used to say that won you a steak dinner ;) Cheers man.
You can’t get much easier than that. I’m going to do the TAT on stock suspension, but I think this mod will come along shortly after.
Mhmm, Likely Tad. It always surprised me what the stock KLR was capable of for the money but this has certainly made a big difference :) Cheers !
Awesome as always!
Cheers and thanks for watching! :)
That KLR of yours ar soon up to modern spec.
If l had put 5w in my standard forks it would end like a rocking chair.... :)))
Haha, yes :) without the new cartridge the 5 wt would be terrible! Cheers Toby.
@@masonsadv l can see that:))
Why didnt drill more holes in the Valve seat??
Very nice.
Cheers :)
doesnt it say in the ddc kit description, that you don't ned to take the fork off to install this?
You only need to remove the forks in order to change the oil out. If you’re deciding not to change the oil you just drop the new components in without taking the forks off. The kit comes with their recommended oil though so it worth doing.
👍🏻
Cheers Joseph
Hugh, you are so accurate you must be a... :-) Nice one thanks for sharing :-)
Bahahaha 😄 Cheers Chris!
Great vid mate. The oil certainly had some wear in it. what is the condition of your Stansions and fork seals.
They are perfect thanks to the fork boots. 👍
Great job on the Upgrades. I am looking at dropping the cash for the Cogent Moab shock and front fork upgrades. One question. I notice you have the heated grips. Worth the money or not? I Live in N.C. and ride all winter but usually wear thicker gloves when cold
Awesome, I don't think you will regret it ;) Yes, worth every penny!! Haha, love my grips ;)
What happened to pumping the air out of the tubes ?
It was done while setting the fluid levels.
Hey mason, I have the cogent Moab shock and I just went to adjust the preload for the first time and I noticed the shock twists left and right a bit depending on which way you turn the collar. Is this normal? Thanks
That may be a question for the guys at Cogent. I think a little play would be normal but you may want to phone down to check. Cheers!
You do good work Mason. Are the Cogent spacers metal or PVC? Any thoughts on the use of either material? I can see the lightness advantage of PVC (which Progressive uses) but I wonder about brittleness over time or in the cold.
Cheers Pinkie :) The spacers are PVC but they are really thick walled. It sure looks like tough stuff and I'm sure they have done their homework ;)
@@masonsadv Thanks Mason. I figured they had to have thought the materials through. You're gonna make me want this upgrade after I see it in action.
Hi Pinkie, good question re the plastic spacers - I've had thin ones (plumbing pipe from the hardware shop) for over 50,000 km with no problems, so these thick ones should be good for ever.
Hello Mason you have convinced me after watching each one of these videos 2 or 3 times each.
Question for you: Is the DDC Installation tool really required? I will get it if required, but at $45USD to us Canadians it seems like a lot of $$$ for a one time use magnet on a stick, or am I missing something here? Can I just use a general purpose telescoping pen type magnetic unit?
I just noticed 2 years + 1 day, to the day you posted the original rear shock install. I am going to buy the front and rear shock but waiting on the reply for the DDC install tool.
Hey Paul. Funny you should ask about the tool for the DDC. I used it yesterday for the second time so for me it's worth having around. The shock oil is in the tube before you slide the DDC in and the tool holds it in place as you slide the shock over the tool to sit on the DDC. Then you remove the tool, install the spacer and top cap. A long magnet may work fine but the tool works perfectly ;)
@@masonsadv Thanks for the speedy reply. All ordered up by phone! Now the painful waiting...
Any theories as to why Cogent stuck with the spacer spring combo ? My Touratech springs are full length . Curious about that . Cheers mate .
That's a great question for Cogent, Rod. I am guessing that with the heavier coil there is no need for a longer one? Cheers :)
@@masonsadv only so much travel in the suspension too . Cheers Mason .
That's what i'm thinking but I don't know for sure Rod.
Ah! I thought you had Progressive springs up front and the Cogent was the next step up. I see that you've taken a "Giant Step" up from OEM vs. an intermediate step to Progressive, then the big upgrade to Cogent. Enjoy! I am confident you've seen a dramatic improvement!
Yes, the front only had heavier weight oil installed and the rear had the top gun coil and heavier oil, so a slight upgrade for a year and then straight to the top ;) Cheers!
Should be a night and day difference
It really is :) Cheers!
Quit making me realize I need to get my Cogent hardware installed.
Haha, no really... take your time ;)
Speedometer cable? 😂
Yeah man! Old school 😄👍 that's how we roll!
No more nose dive?
Just what you would expect on any machine :) Cheers Jim.
The completely unnecessary music track is quite distracting.
