- Last time on The Media Chronicle, we went over how 4Kids Entertainment started out and how they rised to mainstream popularity a few years later. But now, it's time to take a look at the downfall of the company that not only gave them one last hurrah, but also gave them what they deserved and you're about to find out how and why in the final part in this new 2 part episode of The Media Chronicle.

I remember the day 4kids lost One Piece. It was a fine day.

Holly Chambers It was just a compilation of bad moments from the dub. The whole dub isn't on UA-cam unfortunately as there are only clips and a few episodes.
Skippy I might already know the answer to this question, but I ask anyway. If 4Kids didn't want to dub One Piece then why they did it anyway?

Have to disagree with the Yugioh part of the video,they butchered so many things in the show.
example:
1 Amazing music and character themes gone,replaced with their own.
2 Heavy-heavy censoring and editing of certain parts entire episodes deleted.
3 Beutiful and emotional moments completely ruined with stupid dialog (ep58-59 Carly vs Jack)and a whole lot more.
4 Original dialog changed to cheesy one.liners and stupid jokes.
I dont have any problem with the voice actors i think they did a fine job for what they had exept for Jack his voice was bad it just doesnt fit him.
I really hope that a different company decides to re-dub the whole franchise like Funimation did with One-piece.

GX leaving Jaden and Yubel's fate unknown, and skipped 10-15 episodes PLUS the last arc of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, meaning Jack learned how to double-tune out of nowhere, Leo never became a Signer, and Z-One, Paradox, and Sherry never became plot-relevant. AND THEN they had the balls to release Bonds Beyond Time as if they didn't just retcon all of these characters out of continuity...

+Robert Jay It's a shame that season 4 of Yu-Gi-Oh GX didn't get dubbed where Jaden Yuuki graduated from Duelist Academy as he faced Pharaoh Atem and the final episodes of 5D's weren't dubbed and a few of the episodes were skipped and it's too bad the 5D's dub was cancelled even though the 5D's series ended in Japan. Fortunately thank god ZeXal ended as I don't hate ZeXal that show was badly got so much hate. I can't wait for Arc V which is premiering on Nicktoons. I'm switching to DirecTV as my contract with Dish ran out.

@@machinareficul8247 I like the Dub too, the Edits and Changes were weird and silly, but they're honestly part of the Fun for Me.
I always watched TMNT, it was my favorite show and re-watching some of the episodes, some of them have pretty dark themes in them, I mean the coloring of the backgrounds and characters were pretty dark too.
i miss a lot of the 4kids v.a's.

I still wished 4Kids have made the whole complete DVD collection of Winx Club, TMNT 2003, Sonic X, Ultimate Muscle and the rest of the series back then before it was shut down forever because release one or two DVD with a few episodes is not enough and I prefer the whole complete seasons collections.
I wish Funimation would buy the license to the whole Pokemon Anime Series including the Anime Movies too. No one likes the current voice cast so I would think the creators of the Anime would have a say in it being they make the Anime for crying out loud you'd think that they would have a say in a dubbing studio who would do it. I always thought that the company who does the anime always have a say in a dubbing company to do their series. Sure Pokemon is owned by The Pokemon Company but I thought I heard that anything that isn't video game related third party company gets it. So I thought OLM Inc would have a say in a dubbing company but they didn't even know that 4Kids lost the rights to Pokemon and were upset that the new company who does it got a brand new cast. I just wish Funimation would try to get Pokemon I think they would do a excellent job of doing it. On top of that we would be able to watch the Japanese version of Pokemon legally being Funimation would put the Japanese with English subtitles on their release and we would definitely get Veronica Taylor back as Ash and his mom. The whole cast would come back heck even Veronica Taylor herself has said that she's willing to return to do Ash again. I think they have to give Funimation a chance.

(I know I'm replying to a two year old comment, but bear with me)
I've always wondered how the Pokemon anime would of turned out if Funimation got the rights to the dub instead of The Pokemon Company itself. Defeintly few less edits, access to subbed episodes, being able to watch the episodes 4Kids decided to skip, and so on.
Personally, I don't mind the current dub for Pokemon because: I've gotten used to Sarah Natochenny as Ash, the cast for the XY dub was great, there are very few edits, (though the one when Ash gets "brainwashed" instead of tortured by Lysandre was stupid because it took the tension out of the scene), and while most of the music used for the dub is bad, there are a few good instrumental tracks used throught.

Am I the only one who likes the newer episodes of Pokemon.
I never got why so many people think it sucks.
I think it's pretty good.
I just feel like the show has seriously run it's course in both Japanese and English as it used to be an enjoyable series to run alongside the games but has since evolved into nothing more than a commercial for the games which is what the Kanto-Hoenn seasons were kinda like, but at least they had a good enough dub to make you enjoy it regardless and it had enjoyable plot lines despite being a commercial for the games in both languages. The show as a whole and TPCi's dub of it are just really bland and it drives the point home that it's a commercial for the games when it used to be so much more. Plus, despite the dub getting better, Veronica Taylor is still the best English voice for Ash as Sarah always sounds like she's phoning her performance in which makes Ash's naisly like voice sound like he has a really bad sinus infection.

Toonzai was a sign that 4Kids was trying to undo the damage that they did (they were even planning on having a streaming service for uncut anime), but damn was progress slow. While other companies were maturing, 4Kids remained a product of a bygone era, or perhaps something worse. I'm surprised Al Kahn wasn't mentioned in Part 1 or 2. Not only do some of his quotes explain 4Kids's philosophy, but he had to take a pay cut as well to help keep the company afloat when it was going under.
I hope Saban will get a video in the future. Their history should be as interesting as 4Kids's, if not more so. After all, they were known for various anime dubs, Power Rangers, and I think even original cartoons, and now they're only known for Power Rangers and even if a new Digimon series is created, Saban is unlikely to be behind that dubbing.
They did make -an adaptation of Kamen Rider Ryuki,- that was called, "Kamen Rider Dragon Knight," but Ryuki was one of the seasons with the riders killing eachother, (which they had to replace with riders being trapped forever in another dimension) which is why maybe I'd've liked it if it had instead been adapted from one of the KR seasons that was based on simply the fight between good and evil.
The original Yugioh dub was very well done not bad at all. In fact, loved it.. Can't say the same about their other shows

Oh, and 4Kids' version of DBZ Kai was based on the ALREADY CENSORED Nicktoons version. And yes, 4Kids did enter into a license with Funimation. Funimation helped with their VHS/early DVD releases (EDIT: of Yu-Gi-Oh, Viz did Pokemon's release, and continue to do it) , along with scripting the short-lived uncut dubs (9 episodes for Yu-Gi-Oh and 6 for Shaman King? Anime fans loved it!).

This video's pretty interesting - its interesting to see the fall of 4Kids, a once enormous and loved company, deteriorated over the years and lost its viewers' respect.
Oh, as a side note, I love that you used songs from the soundtrack of the 2003 TMNT game throughout this video - I love that game and the 2003 TMNT series as a whole, really.

Either way nothing changes for how I view 4Kids. I saw their dub of One Piece as a kid and hated it and now after watching the FUNimation dub I love the series. What I really hate about 4Kids is their edits. Scratch that, I just hate censorship in general.
If you want to summon Tammy Newborn, make a comment comparing 4Kids to Nazis or something like that and he will rage at you for sure.

Um, if you ask me, their treatment of Yu-Gi-Oh was no different from their treatment of One Piece. Comparing the dub with the sub should make that quite obvious. You even mentioned at one point that the One Piece dub was fairly successful with its target audience. That didn’t magically make the One Piece dub not garbage, it just means that kids have shit taste. The same thing applies to the Yu-Gi-Oh dub. At this point the only people defending it are those with too much pride to admit that their taste as kids, just like everyone else’s, was complete shit.

Ok I'll half agree with you on Pokemon. Gen 4 started out strong and was really good. After that gen 5 was okay, people say it's bad but being a fan since gen 3 and watching the first two gens I think it's the worst but the worst doesn't mean bad. Gen 6 at the start was better than gen 5 and XYZ was AMAZING. (At least the Japanese version I don't watch the dub). And gen 7 now is all good. They changed the art style but it's still good and really funny. I still have like 5 episodes to catch up on now tho.
Yugioh was just as bad as everything else. The Japanese version is much much darker than the dub.
Pokemon was alright and I really like what they do to TMNT but everything else they were crap.

Hey guys, if anyones going to read this, I have a fun little tidbit for you! So remember in Tokyo Mew Mew or Mew Mew Power in Amercia, when the girls went to the beach? In most shows, they leave out cleavage and other stuff, however, they kept in one of the characters' two piece bikini. To be fair, they werent overly skimpy or busty, but its kind of funny that of all things, they kept in a friggin bikini! Im...impressed to say the least.
