This !963 Corvette Grand Sport can be seen at the Rev's Museum in Naples Florida. I am honored to be a Docent at the Museum. Come see this car and over a hundred more from 21896 to 1995. Rated as one of the top 5 museums in the world.
Now THATS a car vid!! And I'm not religious but OMFG this has to be one of the bad ass, horniest cars E V E R made! Massive thankyou for uploading this!
Truly the culmination of ZORA's dream for the Vette... unfortunately the Nassau Speed week publicity shed too much light given half of the GM Engineers were suspiciously in Nassau on "vacation" during the races when GM had a ban on support of all automotive racing.
Finally? no this was the car that almost Killed the cobra, if Chevy wouldn't have shut down factory racing the Cobra wouldn't have been nearly as successful. Shelby is actually quoted saying that if corporate hadn't shut down duntov he would have been in trouble, cause the cobras couldn't keep up with the GS anywhere gotta remember the 390 and 427 cobras were still 3 years away when this was being built and the 289 and 260 cobras were just outgunned completely
Folks don’t realize that the Grand Sports were not modified production cars. They were purpose built factory race cars that didn’t share much of anything with the production cars; even the fiberglass body panels were on the order of 1/2 as thick to reduce weight. Only 5 of the 100 planned were built before GM brass pulled the plug and thankfully all 5 are still with us today. Their Le Mans story is pretty epic...
Always good to see a classic race car on the track instead of gathering dust in a museum. I understand that the driver is taking it easy, but he could be using more of the road and not early apexing. Shallow corner entry was the cause of the spin.
Sounds good, eh! This car is #4 of 5 built, all surviving. I'm pretty sure it sports (pardon the pun, lol!), a 377 c.i. all aluminium small block .. from Wikipedia (under Chevrolet Corvette (C2) Sub Heading 'Grand Sport') .. "The Corvette Grand Sports were raced with several different engines, but the most serious factory engine actually used was a 377 cubic inch displacement, all-aluminum, small block with four Weber side-draft carburetors, rated 550 hp (410 kW) at 6400 rpm." Plus here's some more from the Wikipedia entry (thanks Wikipedia contributors! Maybe some of you are checking out this cool video!) .. "Body panels were made of thinner fibreglass to reduce weight and the inner body structure 'birdcage' was aluminium rather than steel. The ladder-type frame utilised large seamless steel tubular side members connected front and rear with cross members of about the same diameter tubes. Another crossmember was just aft of the transmission and a fourth one at the rear kick-up anchored the integral roll cage. The frame was slightly stiffer than the 1963 Corvette production frame and was 94 pounds lighter. A number of other lightweight components were utilised to reduce overall weight to about 800 pounds less that the production coupe.[18] Initially the Grand Sport project was known simply as "The Lightweight".[19] ..." Beyond (most) of our wildest dreams ... But you can own a little baby Hot Wheels one, just like I do !!! Check 'em out on Ebay. Corvettes 4 Ever !!!
there is that sound again , the zora arkus-duntov sound ....close to the shelby sound but no cigar ( just kidding ) i love them all god damn it ...if if wasn't for zora there would not have been any game on for shelby ..except henry's obsession to out motor that poor old italian by the name of enzo , a perfect 3 wide coming out of a turn all together = stingray + cobra + 308 GT4 bahahah ya see? it's all good
Funny thing is these almost killed the Cobra in the crib, Shelby's quoted saying that they were demolishing his cobra's, More power, better aero, and stiffer gotta remember the 390 and 427 cobras were still 3 years away when this was being built and the 289 and 260 cobras were just outgunned completely
A great pity GM did not build 100 of these for the FIA GT Championship of the era. Ferrari would only lay down 39 GTO's Winning 1963 and 1964 GT... Whether ether car could have won Le Mans is Moot Ford designed the GT-40 to do BOTH! Took 3 years and $Millions On of the great might have beens... I was lucky to see Roger drive one a Sebring. 1964 Racing with the Prototypes and Cobra Coupes.. Then the 427 Penske SunocoTarga Roadster of 1966 STILL a force to be reckoned with.... Wheelies out of The Hairpin! Drafting Mk.II Fords and the 330P3 190+ mph... J.C.
Only thing disappointing about this vid is that there are some really dumb ass pedestrians who don't know when to get out of the way. You hear a loud ass racing car moving toward you, get out of the way!
That car is an ANIMAL!! The skill needed to drive the Grand Sport at these speeds must be incredible!
Oh, I thought this was the start of a Steve McQueen movie. Lol
No ABS, No traction control, No auto blip.
Just raw violence.
TRK RDY Vette perfect description, VIOLENT, but what a good beating it would be LOL.
Wow, over 50 years old and still such a rocket
I saw that grand sport at the revs institute about a month ago while doing a tour. Amazing machine

Yeah, I was there about a month ago. Great car and a true legend.

550 Hp and 1800 lbs
nice view of the corkscrew

Enjoyed that very much!
such a pleasure to watch this glorious car.
I’ll be racing the c2 GS too next week … ahh …but sim racing assetto corsa :)
The Corvette grand sport ..what a car..what an engine. Isn't this the car that finally beat the cobras?
Finally? no this was the car that almost Killed the cobra, if Chevy wouldn't have shut down factory racing the Cobra wouldn't have been nearly as successful.

Great drive and the spin was exciting !
Grand Sport Corvette chassis #004 livery #3. Yes I did enjoy this video.
Cars such as this make me proud to be an American!
Nice video! This is one of the original cars (#004) right?
Yes, chassis #4, my father, Robert "Bob" Adams owned this car from, I think 1966 until he sold it around 1986 or 87.

That Vette has an angry, raging tiger under the hood and needs a driver of Jim Clarck's calibre to do it justice.

Nice video showing how fast a cobra is.
and how much faster the Grand sport is haha
Owning a C-3 with about the same power and a lot more weight I can imagine how terrifying that thing is to drive!
Yeah 1800 HP and 550 hp would be insane, if it's a real grand sport. the standard C2 weighed about the same
That's a lot of angry power..
Goddamn he started letting it eat after that spin out
That thing is lot quicker than I thought it would be.
What Rear Gear Ratio is the Grand Sport using on the Track....???? With a 4 Speed....
Any Wheel Lift when reaching 120 MPH, before the Corners.....????
This driver beat a Aston Martin V12 Vantage in terms of lap time or a Porsche Cayman R
Whats under the hood of this vette?

yea with 58 IDA side draft Webbers... the car is like PORN... I could drool over it all day.
El motor está bien chingon
Carrera epica
Because of the lag in the motor, you need accelerate quicker out of those turns.
Or downshift less entering the turns. Keep the Revs up.
Nice old cars, but this ain't Goodwood.

I definitely think those cars would have proven more than competitive against Ford and Ferrari, and they were just as beautiful.
My brother joe Dvorchak built John Greenwood race cars bfg cars
