God so perfect. I have been watching this over and over again. His forehand looks so clean when finishing across his chest. The mechanic is flawless. It looks like such a natural motion for the body.
Andres Porras No one said anything aboot being elegant or anything aboot Rafa's game. If anyone, Ernests Gulbis has a elegant game. GULBIS baby Gulbis.
Andres Porras Im not talking aboot 2005 rafa. I just talking aboot this damn video. Goodness I no he plays with a weird style when he plays an actual match.
The way Rafa loads up on his forehand is amazing. That last 10th of a second where he relaxes his wrist and allows the head of the racket to move backwards before whipping it forward and exploding into the ball. It seems to allow him to generate a lot of racket head speed when it counts, at the point of impact, and apply an incredibly amount of brush generating that incredible action. His shots also dive quickly into the court which can only happen with incredible rotation. Incredible
i'm surprised how well rafa's hitting partner is hanging in there with him. usually even the higher ranking pros have a bit of difficulty sustaining rallies of this intensity with rafa during practice
2reasons ,firstly, parter was so relax because it is not match, secondly nadal only using 50 percent of his capabilities during the rally, he just aiming at stable rally, rather than earning the point,i think nadals forehand is nightmare to everyone.
Because he's not hitting the ball late and also is going for it on almost every shot. In a match, I'm sure it's much harder to hit it with really good timing every time since there are so many more variables in play (also there's a price for missing - buggy whip is a relatively safe shot with more spin and less horizontal force on the ball). In a rally, though, the shots are coming to him with a relatively consistent quality and he's able to hit it out in front without much trouble (for him - we'd get destroyed by his hitting partner). This is just an educated guess though - maybe he's working on driving the shot more in this practice, too.
Kudos to the guy hitting with Nadal. It's not easy rallying against that heavy topspin. I got to hit a couple points with Nadal in practice and the topspin is insane. It literally feels like it's pushing you backwards.
Probably the worst problem Rafa is having is to find a training partner who is able to constantly bring back his forehand. This shot is just destroying everything... More than impressive. And I´m saying that as a big Federer fan.
Fantastic video. Even though you may not have intended for it to be an instructional or educational video, I hit with the same grip as Nadal and it's awesome to see how he times certain shots (for example when he finishes across his body versus finishing over his head) and the arc he gets on his shots. So, thanks!
thanx for the positive comment too old to play in the ATP but any sportsmanship excels from the love of the game which in my case is tennis how about you? do u play?
Wow, one very handy observation that I saw was that powerful strokes requires an early swing and backswing. They consistently take their racquet back as soon as the ball crosses over the net, and do a full swing the moment the ball bounces. Good things to note.
obviously, Nadal's brought top-spin to a whole new definition, no other player has been able to replicate his reverse forehand with the same consistency and force, i am sure new players will try to emulate his playstyle, but it will always be unique.
@polymarman its nice to hear you started tennis, his name is rafaek nadal and he is actually a good player number 2 on world ranking but he didnt play any grand slams for while.
Ever since 2009, he's worked hard on flattening out his shots a little bit, so they can penetrate the court better and be more effective on faster court surfaces. This has really helped him on grass and on hard courts too. He still does finish with his racket above his head sometimes, like the one at 3:10, but finishing across his body is a result of him hitting through the ball more rather than hitting so extremely up the back of the tennis ball. Of course, he still hits with a ton of topsin!!!
Rafa is playing deeper this year with good court craft. I .like when he follows the opponent and places it against the direction he is moving. This along with corner to corner deep from both wings should give him a great year.Relentless aggression and hopefully great serving and returning will give him Roland Garros2012.. Blue claysucks!
I think Nadal is the most entertaining player to watch practice videos of. It's just crazy how much action he puts on the ball. Even among pros, his strokes are kind of spooky.
Really nice clip - the angle shows the power in rafa's hits as well as the spin! And he's clearly not even hitting at full power. I can almost feel his racket just brushing the h*ll out of the balls! Cool cool!
One thing I've noticed, the massive change between back in 2011 and now in 2013. If you look at his left foot, he keeps it behind his waist and sometimes level with his waist when he hits his forehand groundstrokes. But this year he pushes that left foot forwards to be more aggressive. That's why in 2011 he struggled against Nole because he was too defensive and not aggressive enough. Unlike this year where he has constantly been on the attack against the top players like Ferrer, Nole & Federer.
Before large pro events, in this case the ATP finals, interested people can go to specific courts and watch players warm-up, train, and play practice matches against each other. It's a way for fans to get closer to their favorite players than a large, packed arena or stadium would allow.
It amazes me how far away from his side his contact point is. When you watch Djoker or Murray, it's closer to their sides, and their arm is bent. Rafa, like Fedex, straightens that arm and drives through the ball. Amazing!
the description is really confusing - he says that nadal's 'ability to not only hit the net during this hit' as if to say nadal is awesome at hitting the ball in the net. I think he/she meant to say Nadal's ability not to net in this net but if you watch the vid, Nadal nets at 8:22. Odd
What I'm saying is that the spin + speed + depth of Nadal's rally shot is so different from the opponents I've played throughout my tennis experience. I don't know about you but I've had enough tennis experience to distinguish the major differences between my opponent's levels and Nadal's. While I've played against players who hit heavy topspin, they couldn't generate the RPM that Nadal could. A western grip plus Nadal's physique = very heavy topspin. cont.
Federer does stretching exercises three times a day, like yoga also i very advisable to practice TRX . exercises with cords for stretching and strength.
you make some valid points i agree though fed has a pretty looking backhand unless he is set up properly it is not an attacking shot. that leaves him vulnerable to a counter attack from like rafa thus allowing rafa to dictate the point. seen it happen so often. novak was running around his backhand qite a bit against rafa and cracking shots deep down the line.(australian finals) this from memory gave nole a 75-80% win rate as it put rafa vulnerable and set up a quicker point for nole.my point
gotta disagree if you pay attention, nadal is set to be back soon and stronger than ever, early retirement? hes been kicking ass with djokovic being his only competition. Injuries hurt him not shitty Rosol :)
I began playing tennis from august 2012. I have never seen this player on a court, neither he has played a match since then. But who is he? He's quite a good player. He could make good results.
if you watch each time he hits he winds up and uses his wrist like a sling shot to get that spin and that's his secret to his spin is the way he snaps then twists his wrist before the follow through on his forehand and backhand
It's 2017 and this video is still without a doubt one of the best Practice videos of all the times

Andres Porras Butt Gulbis. He does
Person have you not seen the video above. His forehand smashes. His rotation can cause a hurricane. His legs can explode London.
Andres Porras Im not talking aboot 2005 rafa. I just talking aboot this damn video. Goodness I no he plays with a weird style when he plays an actual match.
Andres Porras
Where?
This stuff is hypnotic.
I think the guy playing with him should get some credit - I mean, these are hard balls to return!
dont know why its feel so good watching this
Yeah so satisfying
Its the topspin
its 2017, and im still watching. Arguably one of the best tns practice video.
Its 2021, and I'm still watching
Its 2021, and its time to revise
It's 2024 and i miss this nadal :(

1:06 the mother of all the spin. monster spin
My fav video of nadal, sucks that he just retired but I always come back to this video

@@psvlog9370, maybe also because that partner is Marat Safin, ex-number 1 in the world..
@@jvn1305 that's the reason
Safin makes the racket look like a toothpick.
Pretty sure it's not Safin, different style (see: ua-cam.com/video/i9tlfUdFPfE/v-deo.html). Hitting partner's pretty decent, though.
@@jvn1305 wrong
The other guy is really good
When i read the title 'Nadal High Intensity Training' I was expecting him to play a super machine or at least 2 players on the other side!
Im impressed. I had no idea sky customers could go to the movies for 3 pounds
His hits are even more powerful now ,he puts a little less topspin and more pace now
guy is like a 4.5 in my city

What an amazing forehand!
Amazing forehand, he makes it look so easy
It's impossible to follow is racket on a forehand swing, the acceleration is immense
Wow this is absolutely fantastic to watch! What a beautiful technique...
I think its interesting in this warm he hits normal over the shoulder forehands and not buggy whips it over his head like how he does in a match

Needs more spin
Magnus Holt Are u seriouslly? It is Rafa Nadal. He knows what shal he do.Who are u to say him that it needs more spin?
Tudor Devcioglo do you know what sarcasm is?
Rahul Dey No.What is this?
ikr his forehands and backhands are too flat

THANK YOU PPL FOR FILMING THIS I LEARNED TONS
His technique looks so fast and unbelievable from this angle
man...the RPMs on the shots he's hitting are so intense. He's slapping the ball but they're just dropping so fast
Probably the worst problem Rafa is having is to find a training partner who is able to constantly bring back his forehand. This shot is just destroying everything... More than impressive.
And I´m saying that as a big Federer fan.
But Fed never had that problem cause he practices so lax. His forehand destroyed everything in his prime.
Nadal needs to work on his technique..
Magnus Holt
hahhahahahahah good one
Magnus Holt You kidding. Tell me what looks wrong when nadal finishes his forehand over his shoulder, not when he finishes over his head?
Dan Lee needs more spin

3:28 how he made that shot !! Incredible
Nadal is a beast!
His hits sound so crisp! That insane topspin!
I could watch that forehand all day. He just crushes it.
Wow!! it always amazes me when you can visually see the amount of spin great players put on the ball
If you look at the description, I think the fact that he was going at it for an hour and 20 minutes makes it pretty intense, lol
Thank you for this video!!! Such a great way to learn footwork and ball contact.
That sweet spot sound, music for my ears
is there any Nadal training that isn't high intensity :D

its so effortless and fluid but if you slow it down, nadal's forehand is soo crazy.
@polymarman its nice to hear you started tennis, his name is rafaek nadal and he is actually a good player number 2 on world ranking but he didnt play any grand slams for while.
They should definitely show more points like this! Not like, entire matches, but at least a few points maybe. Great vid!

What a nice sound on the contact with the ball..!
amazing how he times the deep balls on the rise so well. he even keeps his big loopy swing mechanics
Great Vid and great perspective! Who is the sparring partner?
generally yes, topspin helps u control the shots, if just hit it flat, it is more likely going to go long.
Nadal seems to be hitting the ball pretty good. I did not know he could hit it so hard. He could be a top contender!

2011 Nadal had quite different forehand motion. in 2019, it is much more simple.
the sound of the ball brushing against nadal's racket is orgasmic
just such insane power - hope Nadal comes back strong for French Open this year
it looks so much better at this angle than tv broadcastings

Toni Nadal says: " Fot-li fort!" in every hit. It means in Catalan : HIT IT HARD. Good training.
Awesome video thanks for posting it
this is really good visual training. Sometimes ur eyes learn more than ur brain does
damn look at that spin!.
I'm a Federer fan but this is the epitome of intensity. No greater competitor than Jimmy Connors and Nadal in 🎾 history
What I learned from this video is that you can hit as hard as you like with topspin and it will always go in.
I didn't skip the video at all and didn't feel boring :)
Federer does stretching exercises three times a day, like yoga also i very advisable to practice TRX . exercises with cords for stretching and strength.
The control on that forehand is insane.
Nasty topspin. You can tell how much more juice there is in the forehand compared to the backhand.
so much power its crazy....nadals a tank
The guy he's hitting with is a 19 year old Irish junior called Sam Barry. He's around 700 in the world and is on the Irish Davis Cup team.
That forehand, wow!! Powerful for sure!!
fantastic footwork
the way the ball drops its just crazy
i totally agree i wish they did this more often in matches too
This is when rafa used an extreme grip
I feel like I could watch this for hours...
In what moment of the training does he inject his PEDs?
Peanut butter and jelly
The most impressive think about his forehand in this video is how little effort he puts into what's coming off his strings.
best vid of rafa hitting hands down
this video shows me there is so much to the timing and position. You have to be dead on in those category's to hit the shot you want.

lol...so true on both points, first and final. Del Potro rolled through Nadal's topspin the same way that year.
