Gen 3 for me. Love the power control and spin. Love the dampened feel. I dont like live twangy firm racquets. I like dampened, plush racquets. So i can rip topspin on both sides all day long. I use the racquet with a Dampener as well. Best racquet i've used for my single HBH...Balanced the racquet to a couple more points headlight as well.
1st gen is not garbage. It's just not for people who aren't willing to put in the effort. I bought it when it first came out only because I thought it looked cool. As a newbie to tennis, it was SO frustrating to hit with it. However, it forced me to stop being lazy and fix my form. Now I currently own 5 different brands and types of racquets, but the gen 1 is my go-to racquet; the power and accuracy of this racquet are pretty impressive. I don't think Thiem would have stuck with it for so long if it was "garbage".
I love the 3rd Gen Pure Strike 16x19! It suits my game perfectly sense I’m aggressive and have power so it gives me the controlled aggression that I need.
I used to play Pure Strike 2nd Gen in 2018. Play first match feel amazing, good serve, forehand and backhand are incredible. After that match, I got injury from elbow and shoulder. Not decided to play 2nd Gen, but 2020 I bought 3rd Gen to test it. Feel a little bit hurt to my shoulder but not too much so I keep playing 3rd Gen. Play 2 month until now I can play better without injury. Good racquet with better comfort rather than 2nd Gen.
This is exactly what i wanted to know. As i had the Pure strike 2nd gen, though i loved it but i got Tennis elbow and shoulder issues with it. I stopped playing with it and got myself a Clash 100, though a good racket but somehow lacks predictability. I will now get myself a Pure strike 100 3rd gen....Thanks for ur input
Your review of the first generation of Pure Strike being Garbage was unquestionably true🤣🤣🤣my friend had one and I always hated playing with it as it used to feel inexplicably stiff, just with that much of a review, I have subscribed to you, thank you(currently using the Pure Strike 2nd Gen 16×19)
Unlike most users, I loved the first generation Pure Strike Tour. I didn’t think the second generation was an improvement to the first gen tour version, even the super hyped PO17. The third gen is the best of them all. It feels softer with more plow and even more power. Love the spin and control, too. Just wish the Tour version came in the 18x20 string pattern, though. This racket is definitely a powerful player’s racket for attacking style players who seeks to end points early with accurate & controlled aggression with angles and placement combined with some power.
Many thanks for the review I asked for. I have been playing with a Juice BLX 100 for seven years and just recently decided to switch to another racquet as many friends were advicing me to use a more control-oriented racquet with a thinner beam. I was considering Blade and vCore, but by coincidence bought a Pure Strike 100 3rd gen, as I had an offer at the dealer to buy any racquet with a discount as a gift for buying some other more expensive stuff. They (a general sports warehouse) happened to have a Pure Strike on the wall (and not any Yonex Vcore I was also considering) so I decided to go for it. The original string was not good, I played a match with it and lost, mainly due to being unused with the racquet, so I put on the same string I was used to which is the Babolat RPM Blast at the same tension as I had on my previous Wilson which was 24,5 kg. I am now trying to get used to the racquet and think it works OK, but sometimes it tends to give some extra speed if I hit right in the sweetspot so that the ball flies away and it tends to flex a bit too in a way that gives extra speed to the ball, so it seems it is not entirely control oriented in the end.
Geez Babolat quality control is so terrible. You have a 2nd gen that’s way on the lighter side and a 3rd gen that’s way on the heavier side. Since you have that awesome machine, a lot of racquets in the shop and no affiliation to brands, it would be interesting to see a quality control challenge. Like 3-5 of the same racquet, picked at random from each brand.
I tested the PS2 a year or so ago and found it was powerful but uncomfortable and unforgiving if you hit a ball off centre; lots of vibration. I had been thinking of the CLASH and enjoyed the trial but finally tried the PS3/100 16x19 and found a keeper. Definitely more dampening but not dead and good comfort, power and control. I string with hybrids at 51-53 lbs. Glad I kept dating! ;)
Weight and stiffness numbers for the Gen2 certainly wrong. A proper Gen 2 project One7 frame should be 70RA. Gen2 is a much better all court racket than Gen3 - much better feel, great for drop shots. Gen 3 gives you very slighly more power but much less feel. The spin potential is roughly the same, tried with Babolat RPM blast Gauge 16 (1.3mm ) strung to 57lb. Gen2 for me all the way but they are becoming hard to get frames!
Hi, as Bruno Martorelli mentioned, these two rackets are completely differently spec'ed due to quality control. You should compare the two that are at least the same weight. You could even use two unstrung ones, and they'll still provide a perfectly good comparison. While you won't swing them that way, the comparison is more valuable than this one was.
I actually think the first gen is the best one. Dominic Thiem uses first gen 18/20 for quite long time, and didn't switch to the popular 2nd gen. Felix Alliassime uses the first gen 16/19 for quite long time and didn't switch to the popular 2nd gen either. Just funny to see a racket that was so popular among recreational players but the only two players on the tour using the "trash" first gen pure strike didn't make the switch (now thiem is using the 3rd gen strike and Felix is using the last gen Pure Aero VS but the fact is they both skipped the unbelievable popular second gen pure strike )
FYI for thiem he had no sponsership at that time. He basically picked up a retail first gen pure strike and instantly failed in love with it, then Bobolat handed him the contract.
Weiran Jiang no, Dom8nic still uses the first gen, it just has a third gen paint job on it, he also has a head pallet fitted to it as before he switched racquet sponsors he was playing with head... he didn’t have an off the shelve retail babolat and he did have a sponsorship.
Pros look for different things in a racquet. They have the physical strength and technique/ touch to fully utilize an otherwise unforgiving racquet. Rec players will never be able to do that and they are more likely to hurt themself in trying, that's why some consider them bad.
Gin356a I disagree a little with what you’re saying. Some rec players can and do use modified and fairly stiff or so called “difficult to play with” racquets, many go for old school players racquets, which coincidentally is what many pros use (but with paint jobs to match whatever racquet their sponsor wants them to endorse). It really depends on the individual and their playing style and ability.
I played with both and eventually switched to the new blade. But I definitely liked the 3rd gen better, it was definitely softer and it didnt cause pain in my elbow like the 2nd gen did. Nevertheless I loved both racquets.
The first Pure Strike 16x19 felt way too metallic so I got a Volkl Organix V1 Pro and loved it for a few years. Wanting just a bit more free power I switched to the Pure Strike 16x19 Gen 2 when it came out. I really liked it but after a while I realized it was the cause of mysterious wrist pain I had never experienced in playing 30+ years. Apparently I wasn't the only one that noticed this issue. I switched to the Prince Tour 100 (310) and love it. I'm curious about the Gen 3 Pure Strike though. Does anyone notice wrist pain with the Gen 3 Pure Strike? I assume the Cortex was added to Gen 3 to reduce shock and subsequent pain customers complained of in the Gen 2.
Interesting. I played with the gen 1 for so long I went through 4 racquets. But when it came to getting ready for the new season, I decided rather than hunting down a couple more gen 1’s I’d jump right into the gen 3. Unfortunately, it’s got a very different dampened feel that I just can’t get used to. So after watching this video, I purchased a gen 2 to try. If all goes well, I’ll be selling a a couple gen 1’s and 3’s! And I’ve subscribed to this channel so I don’t make the same mistake next time!
Your credibility goes to the garbage when you say PS 1 was garbage. But you’re sticking to it. Proj. 17 has no string marks whatsoever, nor are the specs on the frame, Gen 1 does. I can interchange between Gen 1 and Gen 2, no problem. You just didn’t like the look.
Well I have been away for a while, and puchased a used gen 1 on ebay. Before I was using an old Wilson K Zen team FX..... Certainly the Babolat is better? Guess I will find out Sunday haha
I am a college player looking forward on buying the pure strike gen 3. I currently use a Wilson Pro Staff 97S and i noticed the strike is a bit heavier, I'm looking for more power and control since i like hitting strong from the baseline and the pro staff just isn't cutting it. Would you recommend this racket? Thanks in advance.
I have one of those first generation pure strikes and what is odd about it is that the balance makes it feel heavier than it actually is. So not only does the racket get pushed around by hard shots, the racket is hard to swing as well.
I know a lot of ex-six one 95 users that switched to the first gen strikes after wilson dumped the six one. Some of them are playing tecnifibre xtc rackets now.
You have a heavy spec'ed Pure Strike gen 3 (5 gram over) and a low spec'ed Gen 2 ( 8 grams under) which do not give a good comparison on the scale and balance
I believe they can be excellent rackets but I never wanted to test them simply because I hate how they look! And with the offer on the market, no one needs to buy a racket that doesn't like his paint job.
The weights are so weird. The net weight is 305 g for both, plus the strings(around 15g for 16/19) shall be 320 even with 3 g for deviation. But what's the problem with these two at 326.5g and 312g? That means these two sticks have a deviation of 6.5g and 8 g for each. Sooo weird.
What's the benefit of having two of the same racquets. I have one head graphene 360 speed mp (main) and one backup speed(the generation before that). I break strings every month or two and play high school tennis. Great videos btw!
Each racquet has a different static weight, balance, swing weight, etc. You body gets used to a racquet as you use it more and more. If your 'backup' racquet is the same racquet, then you won't notice a difference when you switch between racquets, which in turn will help you perform better. This is why the pros use multiple racquets, but they all have the specs. The only thing that differs for them is string tension by a 1/2 pound up or down. If you have two vastly different racquets, then switching between them will hinder your performance typically because your muscles won't be used to a different spec racquet.
There's really not that much difference, most reviewers rate the 3rd gen slightly better, but makes no major difference. The first-gen was totally different, these last two generations are head to head. In your case, buy the 3rd gen because they are the current model anyways.
Play with Gen 3 after upgrading from 2, for me they are fine but there has always been a slight nagging feeling that there isn't much feel on both frames and that the width is just slightly too wide for my liking ( single handed backhand, grew up on Wilson Pro Staff, Puma Becker Pro, Donnay Pro Ones) but I like the power the frames give me but wish they had a bit more feel especially around the net..great video, thanks
Ah the Becker Puma Pro and then the Estusa, best racket I ever had. Got the Pure Strike 16x19 a week ago and loving/liking it, it reminds a bit of the BBecker from back then a bit. I wish they would make that racket again.
@@nosmoking4781 me too, if they just upgraded the frame they would have a really good chance at bringing something different to the market, it was such an attacking players racquet..I just realised just how good my Pure Strikes are because I've spent a few hours hitting with the new Tecnifibre RS 305, I was hugely disappointed, in my opinion it doesn't come anywhere near the PS..stick with them and hope that Puma does something with its mold again! 😉👍

How to make the Pure Strike 18x20, a Pure Strike Tour?
= put on a leather grip. now you have the balance and weight etc of a Pure Strike Tour
I own first gen and I am one of the 3 people who love it .

@Ike Exeter always the low end. 25kg
Babolat hit the Gen 2 perfect, however Gen 3 is wayyy too dampened and the balance and weight feels too off from the previous generation
Feel the same
Same here. I just demoed the gen3. Way too dampened. It felt like it got 3 dampeners on that racket. I like the Gen2 better. Crisp and more feel.
remove the grommets and then remove half of the dampening rubber tech/pure feel. and put on a leather grip.
case solved
