    The hardest part is when a person inside the team causes harm to the whole team. I am supposed to protect the team, but it is much harder to do when the toxicity comes from the inside.

    I totally agree that the hardest part of being a scrum master is different from one individual to another. For me, the hardest part is being a scrum master is not having a technical background (management background), as developers/engineers feel kinda distanced from me as a scrum master. It's more like they feel that I don't talk the same language as them.

    The hardest part of the being a scrum master, for me, is that a lot of the answers for agile/scrum questions end up being "it depends". Scrum is a framework not a methodology. So the answers can depend on the team, depends on your company, it depends on your culture. Sometimes I just want the answer! :-)

    Hardest part for me is working for a very well established fortune 30 company that set up scrum very wrong from the beginning.

    How the performance of the scrum master can be measured as scrum master is not directly adding any value to the product or app the team is working on.
    How scrum master efforts can be justified?

    For me the hardest part is having no reference if i'm doing it right, as i see the scrum guide describes a lot of "superficial what's" but not exactly "why" and "how", i don't know any other scrum master, so i spend a lot of my time reading blogs about scrum, and seeing videos (like this one) to see other scrum masters perspective, talking about today specifically, i'm also in a confusing environment, 8 months ago we had one product with 7 developers that worked really well together, next week we will be starting our 4º product, every product will have ~ 2 developers, and we still don't have a single product owner, some developers don't work properly as part of a team, a lot of these product decisions were taking without consulting developers, i'm also the youngest in this environment, i believe this makes it harder to get respected.

    How do you keep the balance between different characters of the team? I believe one thing as a Scrum Master, one ought to try and not show their favorite characters within a team. I come from a training background and It's sort of always been a pickle for me, especially when I started off in my early career. I recently started working with a software development company and I would really like to tap into this role.

    I think the hardest part for me is to be a hero becuase my teams think that I have to do whatever they want and I try to persuade them,It's completely wrong.

    Quick question:
    I joined my team 3 sprints ago and they are doing great incrementally but we have a great challenge of not having a tester yet, Peer review is what we done but this slow down pace , a Dev wants to double as tester/Asso Dev that means doing tester/dev 50/50 but that will reduce is capacity as DEV , is this a good practice , he is ready to do this for the team , pls advise
    I will be glad to a good response

    Hardest part for me is very unique to my current situation - the team is physically distributed (working remotely) and I'm a contractor - not an FTE of the company who owns the team. I've also been parachuted in mid-way through their project. So, I'm not in the same room with them, I'm fighting a well-entrenched culture, and I've got a different logo on my business card. Just spending time with them to ask questions and spark change is extremely difficult.

    Hi, I’ve got a PSM1 certification and a Prince 2 certification but I am struggling to create a cv that will get me interviews, do you have any advice? And I would like to eventually get a scrum job in the U.S a few years from now, so I can live in America at some point

    I think the hardest part for me (2022) is attempting to figure out how/where to apply Scrum in an organization that has a lot of small projects, but hasn’t matured in their Agile journey yet. It’s hard to instill new habits in a temporary team where team members are also spread across multiple projects.
    Now that I am mostly recovered from burnout, the other challenge is adjusting from managing an innovative, multi-million dollar project that spanned years to 6 month projects where we are upgrading outdated technology.

    Hardest part is to convince team that Agile is real and important. And SM is not a PM and is really a needed role. :)

    Great conversation...why project manager can do same sm role if we train him in same mind set with agile mindset... why we need scrum master? Please exy

      Because if you do those things - train them and help them change their mindset - you no longer have a PM...you have a Scrum Master.

    The hardest part of being a scrum master is to create a high-level plan for a quarter, The team outcome is optimized but we are nowhere close to predict the team velocity, is the user story estimate a good way to define the outcome metric?

    As a professional you often tend to think "what's in it for me", "is my work being appreciated", how will people know I'm working hard"
    Going beyond that mindset and serving the team with the knowledge that almost always it is and will not be about you.. And that you have to have the courage to work through this..
    This for me is the hardest part.

      That's a great idea Frank! I wonder if Ryan and I should go through our bookshelves (behind both of us) and see what we can randomly pull out and talk about.

      I am reading “Beyond Agile”. Interestingly, the book spends a lot of time talking about the human element.
