The second caller actually sounded like a female, which could explain why the son is extra curious about the relationship, this type relationship may be foreign to him ( I could be wrong, but that's my hunch)..... and also, living with someone, and building a relationship are two different things. Instead of thinking the kid is weird, how about actively building a relationship with him to help the transition be more smooth. You moved in his space, took up time he would usually have with his mother, 4 months is not enough in my opinion.
My sentiments as well. The relationship is non traditional... Will this individual become my step dad or mom? This individual moved into my space? Will my life change? I need to protect my mom? This individual is trying to take my mom away from me? It's too much for a kid. Also we don't know much about the child... who could be on the spectrum; and dude think his behavior is weird and/or discounts his feelings or take interest. Just seeking control & respect because the individual paid 4 months worth of bills.

It doesn’t sound like trauma. Just a life change that he needs to adjust to. My advice to him would be to build a closer relationship with her son, so he could feel comfortable. The only problem sounds like the mother is an enabler and further down the relationship even if he has a close relationship with her son, the enabling could still be a problem from the mother’s behalf. I don’t think that is healthy for any child to be enabled.

And the mom needs to facilitate that. Just because he’s 13 doesn’t mean he can’t use his words. They teach you that at 2 years old. Use your words I can’t always understand nonverbal actions like crying (toddlers). If you have a child and are dating you are as much responsible for bridging the gap between new partner and child as is the new mate.

It’s a kid thing. My wife(girlfriend back then) had a 10 year old son who would do little things to make us argue and knock on the door while we busy in the bedroom. After a year or two he grew to respect me and love me. Kid has had my back more than once against his mother. It takes time but just be your true version and they will come around

That young man’s life has changed from it being just he and his mom for likely most of his life, to all three of y’all. That’s a huge adjustment that he didn’t ask for, or expect. His mom is not the root of the problem, the new man is.
If you want things to change, adjust expectations and change behavior. Build a relationship with that young man and establish trust throughout the household.

2nd caller uh I’m a mom of 2 boys. By the age of 12-13 I didn’t have that problem. My boys are very overprotective of me and jealous of anyone by me but they know respect/boundaries. It’s going to take the mother to talk with him and let him know no one can take his place in heart

They need to have a family conversation that adult and parental love are two different things. The child needs encouragement that he's going to grow up and move on with his life, that love infinite and sharing love doesn't take anything away from him. Frankly that's a conversation the mom should have had before moving in together.

Second caller is a problem. He sounds jealous of the son. This boy lived 13 years of his life without someone else. Is he supposed to flip and readily accept someone new like a light switch? I think the son doesn’t trust the new man and the new man isn’t making a real effort to bond with him. Bonding with a child requires patience. This man is displaying jealousy and he hasn’t seemed to explain anything where he has demonstrably tried to prove his trustworthiness to his girlfriend’s son. let me just say the mom and son have only been moved in for A MONTH. it will def take longer than a month or 3 or 6. speaking from personal experience my mom moved in w a man (i’m a female, 16 at that time) i did the same thing. didn’t acknowledge, my now step dad. never spoke to him, for about a good year. which he was living w us and paying all the bills. it’s hard to except as a kid (he’s 13, not an adult), give the boy sometime he will come around.

1st Caller: Dude is entitled to 1/2 your portion of the bills for the year. Call the cops RE: house keys & items. If items missing sue, but most likely he'll countersue. Your agreement determines the outcome.
2nd Caller: The child is protective of his mom and there's a battle of control. The child isn't disrespecting the adult. He's just silent and observant. Mom shouldn't have uprooted her child for a year relationship, and the caller knew what he/she was getting into. All should have spent some quality time together prior to relocating.
3rd Caller: The possible issue -- standards too high/out of league. Reevaluate what you need in a woman than want. I don't recommend Love Is Blind, but remove the blinders and be open to all sorts of women and see what gravitates to you. Since you like dancing... I suggest Zumba classes at your local gym, ballroom/latin dancing.. any dance that requires closeness and a lot of lessons. Some sparks are bound to fly. If you like sporty girls, spin classes, rock climbing, trails. Do things out of comfort zone... sing (karaoke bars).. even if you don't know how. Just have fun in your environment and someone will join you.
Very disappointed with the advice given to the 2nd caller, especially since Jess also has a young son. It takes time and effort to build a relationship with a child. You came into his space and his home, he sounds like he hasn't done the work that needs to be done to date a mother with kids!

If you've been in a relationship with someone for 6 years...taking their access to their home is dirty and it will come back on you. You don't owe him nothing if that is how he will operate. You all should live in that house until you both make other arrangements like adults with sense so that no one ends up homeless or broke over a breakup...6 years is too long to flip on someone like that. Now if he could honor that, then I as a woman, would have no issue giving him half of the money I saved. Just because ya'll decide not to move forward doesn't mean you have to become enemies...like do each other right. People are so annoying.
