Stanley tumblers pose lead risk once button on bottom falls off

- They’re big, stylish and all the rage. We’re talking about those popular Stanley Quenchers mugs. Social media made them famous, and that’s where recent posts about those tumblers containing lead are raising concerns.
I still can’t believe the world went gaga over a stainless steel tumbler that looks and works exactly like every stainless steel tumbler before it…
I can 😂😢
RIIIIGHT?!?!?! THEY. ARE. NOT. EVEN. CUTE!!!!!😂
. Cute??? Are you really that special?
The manufacturers likely can after the money spent for the social media blitz😎
Exactly crazy I have a cup same shape stainless steel I got at a yard sale for a quarter. The only difference is it doesn't have a handle or say "Stanley." But it fits in my car cup holder same way just fine holds a lot of coffee just the same.
If your are losing your mind over a Stanley cup, these risks are of no danger to you.
I can't tell you how many lead fishing weights I bit closed onto the fishing line when I was a kid!
Gone were the good days that things were made in USA. Now…one gets scared drinking bottled water!
When I was a kid in the 1950s, lead-based paint for residential interiors/exteriors was still a thing. [I can recall the "public safety campaigns" telling kids to not eat paint chips...]
When I was I kid, I used to play in the creek near my parents’ home. Some creeks would give us rashes, but this creek was safe. No rashes.
Neighbors have weird diseases, and loved ones got sick too.
That creek is now being investigated by the EPA.
Coldwater creek, St. Louis.
Perhaps that is precisely the reason why the Boomers are so messed up
Dang
Jesus, it’s in the solder sealing an all metal, 100% un-edible container. It’s not anywhere near the beverage. Go swipe your plumbing fittings and decide what needs attention.
Uh, the lead is on the outside of the cup, right?
If the button has fallen off, when you wash the cup in the sink with other dishes or put it in the dishwasher, traces of lead can be transferred to your other dishes.
Why would anybody put lead in a cup? Couldn’t use literally any other metal?
I mean, leaded solder works better and is cheaper than lead free solder. Probably a similar reason, cheaper and easier to work with molten lead alloy.
It’s a fractional component in the solder seal. Not sure how much, but any in the mixture will count as having lead.
Good question!
China and cheap
When it comes to selling stupid crap to dumb women, CHEAP is the rule, on every part.
The bottom is going to fall out on this anyway. At $45 a cup this is the most ludicrous consumer buy there is. Once people come to their senses the " value" will drop out and people will stop buying them. And they will be selling for $5. The key is to get in early buy them and then sell them. Its too late now the value will only go down from here. We've seen this kind of stupid consumerism many times before.
I sold a Dr Seuss book for $133 when that cancel hype hit. Unbelievable.
@@760mom Good for you.
You're absolutely right
sheep are sheep and led by their "influencers" lol
Unleaded please.
So basically a problem that isn't a problem.
It makes sense now. Buy enough Stanley's to line the walls of your home and create a nuclear bunker in the process! 😂
People really don't understand how lead works. When in doubt , don't eat the container. (The container doesn't have lead anyways.) But if there's a separate piece at the bottom of the container that can come off, don't eat that either.
Once the piece falls off, there is lead sealant exposed. So it is kinda a big deal, because apparently those pieces fall off all the time and then the sealant can spread around
You can absorb lead through skin.
We don't "need" lead in our kitchens or homes. We breathed enough leaded gasoline in the 70s. Enough is enough!

Remember the incident with the guy whose car was burnt with the Stanley tumbler “surviving” the fire? How likely that that was a staged ad?!
no i don't remember that matrix lady.
It was a woman lol
@@IamHip lol 😂 somehow I thought it was a guy, I don’t know why!
@@mso1758 it does seem like something a guy would do lol
@@IamHip Agreed! Lol
You can touch lead with zero issue. Don't breath the fumes when heated or ingest it. It's safe unless your licking your tumbler's bottom...
giggady
I think Joe Biden was licking the tumblers bottom and look what happened to him. He's lost his mind and can't find his way off/on stage. he talks in gaffes, mumbles, bumbles and looses his thoughts. Yep---he licked the bottom of a Stanley tumbler, one too many times.
Clearly that karen licks the bottom of the cups
I mean, now a days i would not be surprised if people do lick the bottom of the cups. Going to need a warning label now.
…sounds like a new TicToc challenge.
If I don't drink from the bottom I think I should be safe.
lol right
It's a vacuum seal, there's no better way to make a thermos cup like this. You must have a port to remove the air and then it must be sealed. So it's similar to solder. The only harm anyone would see from this would come from licking the bottom of the cup all day long. Yes, some of it will be released into the dishwater and after 50 years of that exposure, you might feel a little dumber.
The reporters should have blown this off in 20 seconds. Instead, they added a layer of confusion to the issue in a badly arranged presentation.
All those people eating the button on their mug. People are so dumb.
Run it through your dishwasher, contaminate the water with lead, get lead all over your dinnerwarer and silverware.
@@ulexite-tvThat’s the first thing I do, then I eat the button. I make sure to wash everything in lead.
Can lead to lower IQ? Isn't that already the target consumer for this product?
It’s just a lead weight on the bottom so it doesn’t tip over easily, have an adult superglue it back on and relax everything is going to be okay.
That's what I'd do. If you lose your Stanley "button," just use a regular adhesive filler, like epoxy (and maybe avoid the dishwasher).
Seriously, don't eat the freaking container people.
That's not what it is at all... there is lead solder holding that piece on. Maybe watch the video
@@themartdogno that’s not what they said in the video
@@themartdog Wow! you're right, I stand corrected. This is an outrage. How many people will have to die before Stanley changes the design of this cup?
Anyway, you still can just superglue it back on and everything will be okay.
When you run it through the dishwasher .. 40 times
Yep
My thoughts exactly.
Why even use lead as a component in a cup used for food/drink in the first place. What is wrong with Stanley?
😂Made in China with no oversite. Stanely is owned by Black & Decker, Dewalt and a bunch of other brands.. they were good years ago...
People eat a drink out of plastic and stereo foam and are complaining about this!
Both of those materials are considered food safe. Lead is not.
Um... lead is proven to be extremely harmful. The others are not, and if they are harmful, they are much less harmful than lead. I never understand people who make comments like this. Like, your whole life is dedicated to acting like you're winning an imaginary argument, while being completely wrong.
@@themartdoglol they’re uneducated. They speak before doing any thinking or research
Those things are not harmful unless you’re eating them or they are heated up to a ridiculous amount. lead on the other hand, poses a greater threat.
stanleys secret ingredient to keep customers loyal lol
Made in China might be a clue.
Propaganda that it is the NEXT big thing is a HUGE clue. People who "follow trends" already have low IQs they should sue
Stanley USA might be the clue
Nailed it.
No way those cups manufactured in China actually worth $50 let alone $300. They don't even know if the pink paint is lead.

I have been using the Classic Stanley stainless steel brand thermos for decades. Now that I am 73 years old, don’t need to worry about Brain Cell Damage.😄 Can’t take my Brain cells with me into the afterlife.😄
Laser welding is available…why solder it?
Cuz CHEAP.
CCP comrade.
I love how they justify it by saying that it isn’t present on the outside of the cup..... but it’s still part of the cup 🤦🏻♀️
You're not going to eat the cup, or lick liquids off the exterior... There's lead in the typical car battery...but you're not going to eat your car battery, right? The idea that the inside bottom of an insulated thermos is somehow "bio available" is overblown.
You normally put the bottom of your cup in your mouth?
Nope
Staney cups. China manufacturing. Huge margins $$$. Lead. Enough said.
Everyone in this comment section is angrily saying this is overblown because the only risk is if you lick the bottom of the cup - the main risk actually comes from touching the bottom of the cup and then contacting your fingers with your mouth. So for example, you're eating fried chicken and are drinking from the cup, your finger could touch it, or touch any trace of lead that was smeared from you investigating the button that came off earlier, and then you go to take a bite of chicken or you lick the grease off your fingers, and now your tongue has absorbed some lead.
With children it's even more likely to happen because they put their fingers in their mouth all the time. They could be messing around with the exposed solder where the button popped off (why wouldn't they, childhood is constantly questioning why every seam exists and what's behind this thing that looks like it can come off), and then all of a sudden they start picking their nose and eating their boogers and oops, now they've got lead in their mouth.
There _isn't_ no risk when it comes to this, there are ways that the lead can be coming into contact with your mouth even if you aren't spending all day licking at it. It baffles me why so many people are angrily flooding this comment section losing their mind about news coverage about a popular bottle that contains lead that can become exposed, instead of doing some light reading into this and finding out why it's a problem.
Lmao. All the girls that went crazy for it….. now what y’all going to do?
Their nails.
With toluene…..
The girls who do whatever the internet tells them to do have 50 Stanley cups taking up whole cabinet and 10 pounds of lead in their kitchens.
Buy the next stupid crap marketed toward their insatiable desire to waste money.
Whats strange is my button is still on, but ive been noticing what looks like pencil lead on the inside rim of my cup. I only use filtered water in it, so im really concerned about this now.😮
maybe something growing in the water? how often do you sterilize it?
Get a lead testing kit. Or stop using it.
That’s black mold, genius. Also, pencil “lead” is graphite.
👆🏽 this… it’s mold… and yes, water alone can cause this.
@@TexasbyStorm I stopped as soon as I saw this video.
Unleaded Plz.
Lol! And y'all ran to give Stanley your money! Soo glad I'm not as dumb as y'all!
You think those mugs are the only source of lead in your life? If you think that's dangerous look under your cabinets at the chemicals you clean your house with that aren't tested by the fda. You can run but you can't hide.
If you want to avoid toxic lead poisoning, Stanley is the least of your worries. Older homes with lead paint are a much more serious source of lead contamination.
I have their camping hot/cold mug. I need to see if that has the same bottom. I don't think it does but I'm not sure.
I did some research and picked a Tervis Cup, because you can replace the lid, if it breaks. Other brands, your trashing the cup. Also it keeps beverages hot for hours, works a little too well on freshly poured coffee, IMO.
The people who buy Stanley cups already have developmental problems.
Stanley should sue those activists for spreading fear mongering.
My stanley was shipped to me & it arrived damaged and the bottom was dented in , they have refused to replace it ! So the life time warranty don’t apply for all of us I guess -
Lawd fads are always silly at the end the day.
$45 a cup, and it poisons you.
😂 $45 for real?
I’m pretty sure it’s even more than that. I’ve seen some go for like $70.
Now they can get their daily dose of Vitamin L.
There is no lead exposure as far as liquids go, if the interior wall is not damaged. Yes, that part may come in contact with skin or whatever but this is fear mongering. The worst can happen - the vacuum might get filled and your water will get hot. I got a generic one because I needed something similar as functionality goes and I'm happy with it. The best ~20$ I spent on something I use frequently. I don't care about the brand if the thing does its job. There's no craze about that thing here so I can use it in peace.
something does not sound right there
is the chunk of lead go all the way through to the inside?
if not then it should not be a safety issue as bad.
Does the lead leak out when the button falls off? I world think you might have to touch it.
You would have to suck on it or eat it.
@@evonne315 That's what I figured it sounds like this is making a big deal out of a sticker falling off sure there's potential but it doesn't seem like much.
The lead will come off. Think of how many times put in dishwasher, how many times drop the cup, etc.
ok.....but why are they even using lead?
oh my God Let’s get people riled up over nothing.
How about those popular pink ones?
They are all made the same.
Lead.
Probably pink lead paint. Made in China.
but you can fill the cup with water from the hose outside and you'll be fine
What about filing a class action lawsuit rather than simply taking your child in for a blood test..... None of us need to have our or our children's IQ lowered!
😂How are you gonna prove that the cup caused damage??? Jeesh, americans are quick to try and sue..
Me….casually fishing putting lead sinkers in my mouth while I tie a hook on 😂…Come on fishy’s
But it’s on the outside
And while you run it through your dishwasher, the lead is coating all of your food-wear. Yummy.
@@ulexite-tvNo it's not.
Clean the spot wearing a mask and paint it with epoxy paint two layers and it will be permanent and sealed ! You probably have lead in your sink faucet system if it is old if you want to get concerned about lead !
Simple solution, don't lick the bottom.
And everyone was out buying these for their kids. Who made that video that went viral that caused the whole Stanley cup thing anyway?
Stanley's marketing man made it. It could have easily been faked or misportrayed. But people believe anything see online and parrot whatever the influencers tell them to do. The whole Stanley cup crazy 100% orchestrated by the Stanley marketing guru.
Did that woman just say "bioavailable LEAD"? 😣
She certainly did. I imagine "bioavailable" means someone could touch it. This is pretty ridiculous news. If the little button comes off "STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY!!". I mean really🙄. Everybody panic! C'mon. Put tape over it. Paint it, or otherwise cover it so it can't be touched, and you're done. No longer bioavailable.
Bioavailable means It's capable of being absorbed by your body.
Great, these stupid lefty women can get their 100% daily value of lead with their big, stupid, ridiculously overpriced cups. If you didn't think lefty women could possibly get any more dumb, Stanley's found a way.
I wouldn’t risk it.
So what about the other brands? Yeti, hydro flask, exc
Fall for a gimmick much? Like to over pay for stuff much? These cups made you a better person how? These cups are WAY over priced. It's a case of the "keeping up with the Jones's"... if someone else has it you have to have it too. Think really hard about why? Insane! These cups are already falling a part and are hazardous? I've had a better brand that cost less for over 5 years now. I'll bet the buyers of the cups also complain about inflation and not being able to pay their bills... yet you pay too much for a stupid cup that ultimately is a hazard. Feel stupid? You should.
If you know someone who bought into this... understand that this might be an indication of how easily influenced and manipulated they are.
0:24 No thanks... I'd rather have the Dune popcorn bucket please.
You put lead in a drinking cup? Stanley should be sued, if anyone has ever been sued.
I wonder which is worse for the brain, a little bit of lead exposure, or TikTok. My money is on TikTok.
This is straight up FUD.
How does the lead go into the water
Dishwashing.
Then it gets into everyone's water supply. It is a contaminant. There is no reason to put it there at all.
@@ulexite-tvOnly if your dishwasher is sanding the metal off.
Class action lawsuit here we come. Yaaaay.
You'll need to prove that it caused harm..Not that you licked paint as a kid..m prove it was thier cup...Yayayyyyaaaaay
It's on the bottom of the outside so it's not anywhere near your beverage or your mouth.
The good thing about this is we had an old tumbler with the button missing and we found out we neeto ditch it.
Lead soldering held on the button
I thought she said bloodletting at first. Lol
Poor old stanley is getting the Trump treatment, why just Stanley, I worked outside year round for 25 yrs. in the mining field with a Stanley every day never let me down in very adverse conditions, I,ll side with Stanley.
