By far the coolest part of this for me was seeing the jump from pre war to post for aviation technology. Just amazing. You go from something truly antiquated to something almost totally modern in overall design in just 10 years. Wild.

My first airplane ride ever was in an L4 and I was 18 years old when it happened in 1989. it was quite the interesting ride indeed. The plane was still 2x my age at that point and the pilot almost 4x my age! I held the brakes down while he cleared the prop and started the engine, ran around and hopped in and away we went.

My first flight with start and landing was in an L-4 too but it was last year and the plane is almost 4x my age and the pilot was a bit younger than me😂😂

Super, super solid airplane, love it to pieces. I have almost 100 hours in the Cub, flew one coast-to-coast solo. No cross-country machine for sure, but super fun to fly. People often discount the stick-and-rudder aspect of an airplane like this, but after flying a few other types, most everything else feels mushy by comparison

Could you please to a breakdown of a modern high performance glider?
In our club we can operate them at about 20$ per hour or even less and some of the best pilots fly 75mph average speeds cross country.

Could you do my favorite taildragger ever? The Helio Courier. Maybe the H-295 Super Courier or the H-250 Courier?
My childhood hero/rocket scientist/warhead designer/talk radio host (and later friend) flew one for a scientist friend who owned it, and had some interesting adventures with it’s capabilities. Wanted one ever since!

How much would it cost to operate in the modern era? Thanks in advance.
