Chibson vs. Gibson: A Comparison of Les Pauls

- This video compares a 1995 Gibson Les Paul Classic to a 2015 Chinese "Appetite for Destruction" Slash Les Paul replica. The video covers physical similarities and differences, as well as sound samples of the pickups compared, both with clean and distorted tones.
The Chibson was shipped in a foam box and arrived yesterday. No modification or set up has been done to the guitar; I simply tuned it with the factory strings still on.
The guitar was purchased on Aliexpress from Angela's Guitars. Angela was very easy to deal with and the guitar is very good for the money. The component parts will need changing, but the guitar is similar to a real Gibson.
I went to a music store after my first play of the Chibson, and found my new guitar preferable (the neck feel) to some Gibson's in the $3500 range, strangely enough.
The bodies differ in that the Chibson has a wider cutaway and a slightly narrower top (where the toggle switch is). The guitars are similar in weight.

I think Guns n' Rice Crispie's would be more liberally correct. GD Racist!!
Well, from listening on a laptop on UA-cam they both sound pretty darn good.
Excellent reviews, excellent player. Zero bs. I watch these videos all the time and yours is the only video show that I subscribe too.
Good job, I look forward to watching all the videos.
Hi Charles: wow, thanks so much for the positive comments! Most appreciated and all the best!!
Sounds great, I just got my first Chibson and have had fun messing with it. I can't tell much difference in the sound on your video. Thanks for posting.
+firebellyK Cheers! Try different speakers -- you will hear the difference in the clean tone.
Playing it clean, the Gibson definitely sounded warmer and full sounding. The Les Paul copy sounded brighter and lacking but it sounds pretty good for a $400 copy and when he added the distortion, it surprised me that the sound is closer to the real one than I thought it would be and I thought it would be crap just like when he did it when clean. For $2300 vs $400 it's a great value.
Original strings, no setup...wow!!!
Some new pickups and it might sound like a chibson with new pickups. I wish China would make a Scarlett Johansson. I would buy that.
Ha ha :D ! Me too !
marchristiansen china makes some pretty hot Chinese girls. Some are just as good or better looking than scarlet.

you actually might be able to buy one lol. I think they're making human like sex dolls.
Thank you for the comparison, and your awesome playing, I really enjoyed it.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the comparison. I've tried 2 Chinese gibsons over the last 6 years. They weren't that great, but yours seems good quality. it may be time to try another, they seem to be getting better,
Thank you Chris for a clean, to the point review. You don't show a whinnie attitude toward the Chibson like some others do.
A good review, and simply put: $400. vs. $2500. for a Gibson that won't stay in tune!
You do the math. Cheers, g.
There is a reason they send the guitar in the foam it actually reduces the risk of a breakage, it they sent it in the hardshell case its more likely to move around, in the foam, it will be kept ridged.
Good to know -- thanks!
one of the best comparison video for chibson and Gibson. well done really the best.
Mahmoud Eledrissi Thanks so much!
Hey Chris, nice Chibson,,,that was a really good comparison, one of the best one's iv'e watched,a great side by side comparison of the pickups and the tone your getting in each position, from each guitar,,,and great playing as well.Your video clearly shows that these are well worth 400 bucks,,,delivered.I own a few of them,, they play and sound great, and this upload proves it.I still don't know why some people think they are garbage. They are good guitars.
+Canadian Guitar Hack Thanks so much for the compliments and your feedback! I'm glad to hear the video is helpful and that you are enjoying your guitars. I am currently modding the guitar in the video and will do another video once that is complete. So far, it's going well. Best regards.
I know the point of the video is the comparison of the Guitars, but I gotta say I love that Hughes & Kettner amp! :)
Thanks, I do too! Check out my other video on the amp.
Sure I´ll do! Talking about the guitars, I agree that although the original LP is obviously superior, the price difference between them doesn´t equal the "sound distance" of the instruments. Greetings and keep it up with your vids!
Chris Kesner chibson and Gibson Les Paul is great I have a Epiphone Les Paul 200 or 100
I'm glad you made this comment. I thought that amp looked killer and was wondering what it was... figured I'd scroll through the comments first and see if anyone already asked and I came across yours... thanks

Chris, really well done comparison. I bought a LP Supreme in Desert Burst in December 2013, changed out the neck PU to a Gibson 57 Classic and a Parsons Street in the bridge. It rocks! Three major differences from the original. The globe logo on the headstock does not have the map in brass. It is more of a MOP swirl. The neck is one piece, but it does have a joint at the bottom where it joins the body. Lastly, the body itself is not one piece. It is three or four pieces glued together and you can see the grain differential on the sides. With case I paid $350, have about another $230 in the upgraded PUs. All in, for what I do noodling around it is a great guitar for the money!
+Robert L Desrochers Glad it worked out for you and glad you liked the video. There are subtle differences, for sure, but ultimately it's your fingers that make it sound great.
That was pretty fine review and comparison, i liked it.
Cheers and thanks!
I can definitely tell that some of those chibsons are getting better at replicating. The placement of the knobs and everything
I gotta say, the Chibson sounds way thinner
May i know how to reach that seller of your chibson? i'm really interested to try
Any problems on customs during shipment?
Great and very informative video by the way
Thank you in advance
Excellent work man !!! a smart practical guy will focus mainly the final purpose of a guitar: THE SOUND !!! and the final SUSTAIN TEST was very useful congrats, I wasted hours watching many other videos were the guys focused on minor esthetic details (and no sound test), you don't buy a guitar just because it looks god or bad, finally the SOUND its the most important fact for you, I hear a regular difference in regular test not very big, but tthe sustain test is a considerable difference, very smart to do it, excellent job !!!
Amazed at the overall quality & the sound of the Chibson !
well the funny thing is , the same techniques and items made to make the gibson back in the 90's costs absoloutely nothing to do now so really you are getting more or less the same guitar , with slightly lower end finishing qualities.
@@thejuiceman4213 That's complete BS. What you're "getting" is cheap Chinese slave labor and low end electronics and hardware.
I mean, "slightly lower" lol? Give me a break.
@@Vichedges the quality isnt bad and hes right, it cost Gibson nothing to build, that's why China can build and ship one for $200 to $400. Gibsons are overpriced for what you get, when you can buy an American custom shop keisel built to spec starting at $1000, it's just a matter of time before gibson has to start competing and fixing quality issues or they wont be profitable for long.
@@bolerdweller "costs Gibson nothing to build"?
You guys kill me. You don't have a clue.
@@Vichedges it doesnt, I'm a contractor and I can source material pretty cheaply, when you have the buying power that they have, they buy material by the truckload on the regular. They pay a tenth the price I would. The body's are cut on CNC machines that cut them accurately at fast rate and the workers only touch the guitar a minimal amount of times before finished product reaches the end of the line. Lean manufacturing, it's a thing, look it up, I've seen it personally and have went through all the changes of management, materials suppliers, change of manufacturing to reduce cost and limit amount of handling. If YOU dont know the cost of what's in a guitar and what they pay for materials then YOU dont have a clue.
Wow! I enjoyed your playing but having a couple of Gibson's and a
Chibson myself I feel I have a little extra to add! You get what you pay for
and its not just the sound, the feel and quality are a whole lot to do
with it! My Chibson was unplayable when I got it. It needed a full fret
level, pickups were rubbish and a machine head didn't work.
Both my Les Paul's came with great action out of the box and feel like proper
instruments. The Chibson with a lot of work is now playable and sounds
OK but it still feels like a cheap toy guitar and that's hard to get my
head around. Funny that it now looks like the AFD guitar too!
I did a couple of comparison videos too and I would say its
50/50 as to what folk prefer sound wise ;0[
Thank you for sharing. I bought an Xaviere LP copy used, two years ago. It plays great and sounds real close to a Paul. Much much cheaper though.
hey, nice vid, did you asked angella to do any modification/upgrade to your guitar? can you post a list of the specs please?

Chris, this was the best comparison. I did not know that that you could customize an order. I don't suppose you would say which company you bought/ordered it from.
hey did these chibsons slash models all come with the same serial number on the back? there is one down here in orlando hanging in a pawn shop with the same exact SN. plus theyve got 1800 price on it.
Besides the weaker pups, looks like you got a good Chibson. I have heard a lot of blind luck is involved though. The Chibson bottom horn looks slightly deeper cut away.
+dkyelak The horn is cut slightly different for sure. The pickup change is clearly the most important upgrade and can make a cheap guitar sound great.
In China we call the chibson 烧火棍 which means a wood bar that can only be used to burn to warm oneself. But this one sounds good.ps:the jumbo is not like a Gibson.
hi.. i like the chibson. Where did you order it from (online store) and whats the exact model?
Thank you
I’m glad to see a favorable review on this. I just ordered a p90 model with the one piece body and neck. I plan to do a full setup and replace the electronics since I play a LP Deluxe and I’m putting A2 mini humbuckers in it. I’m getting eager to get mine after watching this lol
Any feedback on the p90 model?
Not a one piece body like they advertise.
It's veneer.
Vintage V100 is also a very good Gibson Copy. 300-400$ for a great guitar
How about a higher end Epiphone, in my opinion a better deal and more legit, just saying.

maybe i'm wrong, i think i see subtle differences in your playing. on chibson your playing seems more effortless
holy shit this was the unmodified Chibson.
im finding it hard to achieve pinch harmonics on my chibson. How does your one handle pinch harmonics?
Is the finish a photo finish and how did you feel the hardware was? Like was the bridge lug cutout larger than the lug?
It doesn't sound THAT bad for a couple of hundreds, in fact, I liked the distorted sound. Still, in my honest opinion, it doesn't compare with the real deal.
Yeah, it doesn't sound as good. Still not bad for a few hundred bucks.
They are light year better tahan those 70`s japanese Aria, Ibanez, Kasuga we used to play. Recent i seen add where someone are asking $ 3000 for one of those avfull bolt one Ibanez as "70`s Vintage Guitar". So i just wonder what one of Chibson with Lollar or Duncans will be worth in 2030?
Andrew Campbell Get an epiphone
+ Andrew Campbell, Nothing a set of duncans cannot fix!
You can get a set of used duncan for $80 and the guitar would sound as good as his real LP.
I'd bet my life savings if he didn't tell you which was the Chibson until the very end you would have no clue which one was the fake hahaha Chibson sounded great.
I think you need to edit "Ibanez" out of your comment.
Great video, great playing and great non biased comments. Like you pointed out, there is a huge price difference between the two, so of course it's not going to match up to the real thing. But for the money, you get good bang for your buck. I'm ordering one, but with my own logo instead of the Gibson logo.
Thanks Peter! Hope you enjoy yours. I thought of doing the same with the logo -- maybe next time.
After watching your review and some others I went an bought a Chinese Santana PRS, as long as you remember that you are buying a replica for fun, and willing to do a little work on set-up then you get what you pay for. A fair approximation of a classic for a fraction of the price. I don't play live anymore, but If I was playing live I would play a chinese Gibson/PRS with no worries. Great guitars for the price.
The real Gibson does sound much better. The fake one sounds much more brittle and less warm.
I agree the Chibson sounds like shit in comparison
China does stuff like blend copper with cheaper metals. You're not getting anything even close to American electronics harness. Take two Seymour Duncans and call me in the morning...
Well, some of that might be down to something as simple as the strings. If the guy still has the original strings as fitted in China, then they will be absolute rubbish and fit only for slicing cheese..
It's a Chibson man.
i bet if you would throw in a set of decent pickups from craigslist, perhaps replace the pots and tonecap and strings, it would sound a hell of a lot better and probably rival the gibson.
Did you noticed that Chibson sounded like Fender?
You're so full of shit
It was right in the league of an Affinity Telecaster with original pick ups!
pandemic7 I don't blame you hahah
I agree with you
I didn't think it sounded like a Fender, more like garbage.
There are plenty of better sounding guitars you can buy for around the same money as a pig in the poke Chibson, such as Epiphone, Ibanez, Jackson and Schecter just to name a few.
Hey, can you share the webpage where you purchased the guitar?
very enlightening video. IMO, the chibson pickups on clean sound are a little bit bright, like single coils, don't you think? cheers
The gibson sounds much richer and tone is way better. Only way to go with a Chinese model is to basically by it for the body ( watch out for photo flame tops ) and swap out everything, tuners to pickups to electronics to bridge and saddle. I know a guy who did this for a gigging guitar and it came out great for about a third of what a USA costs.
That's what everyone should be doing, and I'm not even talking about chinese copies only, get guitars like squier, epiphone, and take them to a luthier, get some sutff fixed and upgrade some itens, it's cheaper and you get yourself a premium guitar.
Just don't try to sell it or trade as a "premium" guitar.
Wow 0.0 ... I would buy that Chibson for beginner player ...
Great -love it,keep up the good work.
Cheers!
That's interesting...in clean mode, you can definitely tell the Chibson has a brighter sound, but once you throw in some gain, the differences are aren't as apparent. Very interesting, great vid!
Not brighter, less midrange (and missing some bottom end too). The capacitors and potentiometers don't seem to preserve the high end very well either.
Electric guitars nowadays don't vary as much in sound quality as much as acoustic guitars. You can easily tell apart the 200$ and the 1000$ acoustic. For electric guitars most of the sound is in the pickups, and even cheaper ones sound pretty good. Start adding effects (especially distortion) and - given you're using a quality amplifier - the difference is perceptible only to the trained ear. Throw in a whole band situation with mixing and EQ'ing and the difference becomes irrelevant.
When it comes to high-end guitars you're paying for playability and durability. Someone who claims the Epiphone is just as good as the Gibson doesn't know what they're talking about. Yes, you're paying for aesthetics and prestige as well - but it's definitely not the whole story.
I have mixed thoughts on Gibsons. In my experience, they have some noticeable quality control problems. I've played some truly great Gibson guitars, but then again I've also played Gibsons that felt sloppily slapped together. I've played Epiphones better than some Gibsons.
Youre not playing a good gibson LP if it costs under $2000
Thats a totally false statement. Granted my 3,000 buck ES Les Paul Standard with no F-holes is the best axe Ive ever played!

Hello! Tell me, if you put the pickups "Saymour Duncan Slash Alnico II Pro" on a Gibson LP Studio (2006), will it be close to guitar Gibson LP Standard ? On the sound? (I think the differences between a Gibson Studio and the Gibson Standard, based, because of the pickups? Because the wood on both guitars are the same! )
Chris.....How long did it take for Angela's store to ship the guitar.....(from the date it said it shipped out to you)??
Personally I would rather have a real Epiphone than a fake Gibson.
I'd prefer building something from scrap bodies and necks(like my Les Jem and Jagged Squier-bird) or making a sick tribute out of these imported axes

Kama Kairade disagree..they look and sound ok. gibsons have ridiculous prices. have a wonderful day. or night
Steve Cross now they are the same
straight2hell....people just want that gibson logo on the headstock regardless of the quality of the guitar...shows how mind controlled people are when it comes to brands & marketing.
If the quality of today's Gibson are so poor, then a lot of punters will opt for the Chibson with upgraded components.
Kronos my account got hacked thats probably all its good for
Why don't the "punters" just buy a fucking LEGAL LP style guitar? Almost every guitar company on Earth makes a cheap, affordable LP style guitar. But no, the "punters" want their headstock to say "Gibson" on it. You're full of shit dude. You guys are all the same, you bitch and whine about Gibson but then you buy ILLEGAL COUNTERFEITS just so you can get the Gibson logo.
@@robertsroberts1688 Nah, firewood too.
@@Vichedges people want the openbook headstock thats why Tokai now produce the Legacy range all made in China with openbook headstocks. If Chibsons were all that great they'd be able to stand on their own merits as guitars without stealing the Gibson name, but they aren't. Without the name they'd just be another cheap Chinese LP style guitar in a market flooded with them.
That's what is so laughable about people attacking Gibson then turning around and buying cheap imitations just because they say "Gibson" on the headstock.
It's pathetic.
Did you pull the pick guard off the classic ?
I have one and I did the same thing
I have the 1992 Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus and when they 1st made them, it was basically the reissue of the 1960s les paul and were also made to be better than the Les Paul Standard. At that time it was released as a tier above the Standard. Things have definitely changed with them, that is why the earliest ones are highly regarded and sought after!!
The vast majority of guitarists are somewhere along a very long road of learning to play well enough to sound good and be musical. A lot of guitarists sound the same--they play the same licks and patterns almost exactly the same way as everyone else--and with so much distortion that the acoustic properties of the instrument are largely lost in the noise (along with the individuality of the player). My point is this: if your knowledge, skills, and musicality are sub-par, then a Chinese-made, or Korean-made, Indonesian-made, or Mexican-made guitar is good enough. Leave the very expensive guitars, no matter where they come from, to the people who have the skills and the talent to bring out the best in those fine instruments. Having lots of money and buying expensive instruments and gear do not a musician make. And, IMO, a lot of the opinions that come out in this kind of forum are coming from ethnocentricity or nationalism. There is no basis for the belief that American-made instruments are automatically better than those made elsewhere. A four-hundred-dollar guitar is going to be the result of cost-cutting and compromises no matter where it's made. Pay a Chinese craftsman the same as an American one and you might get even higher quality than the US can put out anymore. People are searching for cheap guitars and then comparing them to the best ones ever made. That isn't right. The Japanese proved long ago that if the price is right, they can routinely meet and exceed the quality standards of the established big names.
You lost it when you started throwing around SJW bullshit like "ethnocentricity" and using "nationalism" as a pejorative.
i think it's not because Chibson is great guitar.. but the Gibson is just way overated/overpriced
overated? NO. overpriced? YES!
PRS Shure Godin Ibanez all do it better esp for quality control. Sold 2 gibsons and 3 epiphones because they didn't play right, stay in tune, too chunky neck etc. Still have a 2014 LPM hate the robotuners because I need to use them all the damn time. But the satin neck and 61 zebras make it good to play. Bought a Japanese Dinky for 400 and it smokes all my gibson/epi guitars.
My best guitar Washburn Parralaxe 10, looks like a thin gibson, has SD 59/jb, buzz fretten nut 24 frets coil tapping. 700 bucks new. Love that thing.
Yet you all want Chibsons because they say "Gibson" on them. Weird how you idiots do nothing but bash Gibson but you want the logo so badly you'll deal with fly by night ILLEGAL COUNTERFEIT dealers, the possibility of your guitar getting seized by customs, the fact that you can't LEGALLY even sell the guitar in the US ....all just so you can have a guitar that says "Gibson" on the headstock. So "overrated" huh?
@FuzzLord They just can't be honest about why they buy these ghetto COUNTERFEITS.
So many people are getting scammed and ripped of by Chibsons being sold as the real thing now and it's because these idiots keep buying and importing these ILLEGAL COUNTERFEITS.
They always try to justify it by talking about "quality" or "price", then they'll talk shit about Gibson or say it's Gibson's fault for charging so much but the truth is they want the Gibson logo on their guitar.
I've had multiple guys here try and argue that they bought a Chibson because they wanted a cheap guitar they didn't care about to "practice" their luthiering skills on.......as if CL isn't full of dirt cheap used guitars.
But no, to get a guitar to practice their luthiering "skills" on they felt the need to order a guitar from sketchy sellers in China instead of just buying one from CL lol.
It's a joke. I wish they'd just be honest about why they buy these ILLEGAL COUNTERFEITS and quit making excuses to try to justify it.
@Keith Nowak You have an illegal POS COUNTERFEIT. Congrats.
Good video, I am thinking to get one to ship to Canada as well. which seller you contacted with? thank,
very nice replica,
sounds great.
Thanks! Check out the upgraded video of the replica.
The main reason I'll probably never buy a Chibson, unless from an American reseller who's selling it as a copy, is because they steal designs, give workers terrible pay, and probably in some cases, buy runoff from the companies that make Epiphone's parts illegally.
It's illegal for an American reseller to sell one of these. These are not illegal to own, but unless you can use a milling machine and get that name off the headstock you can't sell it. Know a guy who owns a music store and someone brought in a Chibson Ace Frehely, and he did a lot of investigating because the guy wanted something like $350.00 for it. In the end he passed. Saw the same guitar a few weeks later in another store, hanging on the wall with a CHIBSON tag hanging from it. They were asking $550.00 for it. Claimed they swapped the pickups out with real Gibson pickups, but didn't change the cheap tuners on it.
My Chibson came with Epi stamped pups. Guitar was identical to high end Epi’s at guitar center.
To my understanding, these Chibsons are basically just Epiphones with a fake gibson headstock.

Well here go,s I have been reading as much as I can about fake and not so adequate guitars And It all starts with..... if you have got money or not makes no difference... In fact 99% of the people that have a very expensive and well known guitars never ever reach there full ability of mastering the guitar....Here,s a true story about my Son......I have been a singer in rock bands for 26 years and observed the art of rock guitars but this can apply to any type of music the principle Is the same by the way this Is not scientific proof so be flexible with your response PLEASE....Anyway back to my Son (8) He Is 25 Now...He wanted to play a guitar In his school music lesson.... And I was sorry to say to my son that I could not afford to get him a guitar.....Not wanting to upset him my friend had a old acoustic guitar cracked neck well a real scraper ....I Glued and screwed the neck and painted It ....It looked like the worst guitar you have ever see and it played bad but off to school he went with this guitar I felt like crying for him but what can you do...after a few weeks the teacher noticed he was left handed and my son was trying to play It right handed although he was playing It pretty good.... so we changed the strings around and He started over again...When the teacher tuned his guitar up at the start of the class... it was bending that much he told my son that the guitar was too far gone.... my son carried on and after a few months the teacher choose my son to play with him in front of all the school....the teacher said to me I don't know how he plays that guitar but he makes it sound fantastic...I told my son what the teacher said and asked him how he was making It sound OK and he said I new I couldn't get a guitar like the other kids so I got to know which fret needed the string to be bent a little... after a while It just came naturally to me....So what I am saying Is... the human mind and body accommodates for the imperfections....So Fender Ibanez Gibson and what ever guitar you like Its all a bit of wood... So to here you going on about this neck is not like this neck Is all Bull..... for the first Three years of playing guitar get the worst one you can and ride that Fucker till the wheel,s fall off ....If its the most expensive guitar or a piece of crap you will make It sound like a good guitar....... whats the saying (all the gear and no Idea) Theres nothing wrong with spoiling your self with the most expensive guitar you can afford ...It,s not the wood It,s not the make ...IT IS YOU ...O and by the way are you wondering what became of my son He,s in his own band Not very successfully But he is to me....Go on UA-cam And put in Tom Crane Guitarist Try and listen to a bit of every thing I,m shore there will be something you like our at least respect And He Is as good with his left hand as he is with his right....Just thought I,d share this with you hope It makes you think ....PS All the guitars that my son play I made with cheep guitar parts...
YOU ARE RIGHT. FOR BEGINNERS THE CHEEP GUITARS ARE GOOD ENOUGH BECAUSE THEY SOUND REALLY GOOD BUT COST MUCH LESS. IN PROGRESS AFTER 5 YEARS THE GUY CAN BUY ANY GUITAR HE CHOOSE NOW FROM LISTENING AS HE KNOWS HOW TO PLAY. IF HE GOT THE MONEY TOGETHER NOW.
"It's not the make... IT IS YOU"... yes.. it is and I can't deal with cheap guitar necks.
jack thelad actually, starting on a piece of shit guitar will make u a better player in the long run. After playing a POS guitar after a couple of years you get a decent guitar later, you will be like WOW
I’d like to add, if you actually have the drive to make a POSG to work for u, that’s the character to be a great player.
Not sure the guitar makes a difference myself. Like most people, I learned on a (very) cheap guitar. When I eventually bought a better, mid range guitar (it was one of those Kirk Hammett Grass Roots replicas - still a pretty whack guitar) I realised it had entirely different characteristics. I was self taught, so the way I played arose from the the nature of my guitar, not 'how I should be playing.' My wrist position was poor because it had these light, low strings which didn't demand a 'proper' a technique. At that time, I didn't care or know that I was losing tone/resonance because of that, so I had no reason to use a better style... Thing is, there are things you can't do on a cheap guitar... Hold a long bend on a cheap electric - they never have enough true sustain - so you end up double plucking the note to imitate the sustain you desire. You're learning a 'bad habit' because the guitar sucks... You said it yourself, your son learned to bend the strings to compensate. That's cool, but put him on a 'proper guitar,' and he's playing everything sharp and sounds terrible... I know your son's example is easy to 'correct,' but when learning 'difficult' pieces, it comes down to technique. Maybe cheap guitars encourage a better technique, but I don't really see why that would be the case. Going by our examples, it looks more like they would encourage bad habits... It's the commitment and talent of the person learning the instrument that matters, imo. Good teacher can help too, if you can find/afford one. Not trying to shoot you down, just saying, maybe your son deserves the plaudits for getting good, not the guitar..?
It's not a 'copy' of a 'replica' it's a counterfeit.
Doesn't really matter what it is. If Gibson really wanted to stop the fakes they would build a second line of Gibsons in China like ESP and PRS using cheaper materials But Gibson are just greedy bastards out to rip people off.
@@colinmcnab6145 what about epiphone
A copy is a replica and a counterfeit you tard.
I bought a chibson. For the body only. I stripped it bare and put in an obsidian 50 60s les paul harness. New grovers, new nut and new pups. It's incredible. I built a 59 mike Bloomfield for a thousand dollars
BTW, please, make a new comparision once you put the Slash alnico kit on it. Cheers and thanks for the video!
the real thing sounds way fatter and there is more depth to the sound! maybe because of the pickups
maybe? definitely.
And maybe because it's not a cheap ILLEGAL counterfeit made with cheap electronics and hardware?
Just maybe.
Not just the pickups it’s the mahogany body on the Gibson too
Not a "copy". It's a counterfeit.
Yep, that's exactly right. If it said "Chibson" on the headstock, it would be a copy.
@janis vogel That doesn't even make any sense, you butthurt, triggered moron. I swear, you third-worlders are outright embarrassingly dumb.
@@stankfanger1366 Gibsons are just a rip off like iPhones. I have a 91 SG Junior which is great and a 2013 reissue 61 LP/SG Standard with sideways vibrola its mint condition but total crap cant wait to move it on. I have 2 Chibsons an ES355 and 59 Les Paul fake both are good guitars. I also have an Epiphone JB Firebird 1 in tobacco burst which is better than the 2001 Gibson Firebird 5 I had moved it on after I got the Epiphone. I have an 85 Tokai SG Standard which is way better than the Gibson SG Standard.
@@colinmcnab6145 Depends on the Gibson. Some yes, some no, some are arguable. My goldtop? Should be considered priceless. Firebird Zero? Should have been destroyed by the factory the way those others were, and the employees punished for making them.
@@colinmcnab6145 If Gibsons are a "ripoff" don't buy one and quit whining. While you're at it quit buying ILLEGAL ghetto counterfeits of Gibsons.
You idiots who claim Gibsons are terrible (where did you find time to play them all?) then turn around and buy ghetto Chibsons just make me laugh.
Hey Chris, I appreciate your review of the Chibson Les Paul. Mine is on the way. I got the 3 pickup custom version....knowing that the pickups are so much junk, along with the rest of the electronics. Which pickups would you use?
Hey Lyn, that really depends on your style/taste. I put the Slash series Seymour Duncans in mine and they work great. Do some research online to see what would suit your style best, but you usually can't go wrong with Duncans. Cheers!
Hey Chris, my name is Brandon, and I wanted to ask if you could give me the website that you bought ur Slash l.p.? I been looking at those for several months and I would really appreciate it if you could do that for me. Thx very much and keep rockin' sounds great
So chibson is not that bad??
Chibson isn´t bad guitar, but i prefer older Epiphone.
Usually all are a hit though all mine are gr8
some people say they are like epiphones, but idk never played one
Try Korea Epiphone. (I have one from 1994, and it sounds fantastic.)
chibsons are not bad like the others said they are like epiphones but they just have the Gibson name on the top if you want to make it about equivalent to a good Gibson what you should do is replace the nut, replace the tuners, and get high end pick ups and always make sure they fret spacing is always perfect
The chibson sounds equally as good as the Gibson. Slash, Zak Wylde or any other rock star could secretly make an album using chibson guitars and nobody would know.
Gues what bro, slash did use his knock off still a couple of times during shows/concerts but also at the recording studio 😁
yeah bullshit, that's always what Cheapasses say.
Chris. this is a great review. Sounds like you know your stuff. I know there are many websites out there for such a transaction/purchase. You mentioned Angela's Guitar...is that off of AliExpress?
+Vito Rauseo Thanks! Yes it is -- there is a link in the comments below.
Does anyone know a seller that actually has an accurate body shape? A lot of these I have seen have the cutaway way off.
They shouldnt be allowed to sell in this country with the gibson name. They should actually say CHIBSON on them or get sued for copyright infringement.
+Al D. I agree, if those guitare are actualy good i dont understand why they have to make them pass as Gibson when they could sell it at a higher price with an original name
Melpheos1er I agree. They seem to be a decent guitar. Over the years there have many Asian brands. Hondo, ect. Some pretty decent too. Witbkut Stealing brand names from companies that have proven them selves over the years and have stood the test of time with quality and performance.
Al D.
What's crazy now is that some chinese companies start to make copy of chinese guitares...
+Al D. Thats why we find "chibsons" from china(hate),its walmart.
My last 2 "Fenders" were made in china.I bought them from musiciansfiend, but headstock said china.
Cannot escape!!!!
+Melpheos1er Now thats funny!!!
Go to eBay and search "high quality electric guitar Slash". You're welcome...
@wksoh did you order It yet? I ordered mine on April 22nd and who knows when I'll get it. At the moment all international shipments from China Post have been halted due to COVID.
@wksoh ok Buddy! Good luck with the move
Has anyone of you recieved a guitar yet? Thanks
@@adrianj3198 yeah. I got mine in July.
@@josefbleaux6724 cool, thanks. I orederd one nov 1st just trying to get some sort of an idea when i could be expecting it..
is there any no set up being done after you got it?
Hi Chris, How 's the chipson holding up after 2 year? any issues? What's the name of the shop form Ali you got the guitar from? I always wanted a Rickenbacker Lemmy bass... and where in Canada you live in?
The guitar is great and I'll be using it at a show tonight. Stays in tune fantastically well with the new hardware and the SD pickups are awesome. I'm in Ottawa -- cheers!
Gibsons have become like the iphone. People will by them just for the name.
And you idiots will buy cheap, ghetto, ILLEGAL COUNTERFEITS for the name. Really, that's the only reason you dummies buy Chibsons. You want the Gibson name.
Jason Allen
Uhhh, not completely true. Did you watch the video? He has a real Gibson too.
@@bt6135 And? He bought that cheap counterfeit POS because it says Gibson on it.
There's a million choices for a LP style guitar.
Instead of buying a legit LEGAL LP style guitar he chose to deal with shady Chinese counterfeiters.
Why?
Because the guitar says "Gibson".
That's the only reason you idiots care about these guitars. There's a million LEGAL cheap LP style guitars made in China.
But you all want one that says "Gibson" on the headstock.
Zero. Yeah this is what an android owner says who has no money to buy the real thing, the iphone
@@HyralProductions It's not about the money, it's about paying to much for something (Apple) that not only does less but restricts the owner to what they can do with it.
iPhones will go the way of the BlackBerry.
Slash made on c.d using a Knock off les Paul then got endorsed and switched to Gibson and has sounded like shit ever since don't but Gibson they make trash always have
Slash sounds like shit? lmfao
"they make trash always have" hahahaha yeah k
I ordered mine from Angela as well. Great lady, and her English is way better than a lot of other sellers. I'm curious about these guitars being made in the same factory as Epiphone etc. The horn isn't quite the same as the real thing and the top of the headstock varies in the way it's cut. You have to wonder if these are CNC'd or...? Glad to finally hear someone playing through a real amp! Those mini H&K are sweet!!!
+sbrave Thanks and agree! Yes, the horn is a bit wide. The H&K is awesome -- I will do a video on it soon. The guitar is in the shop, so should get it back set up soon, and then put in the Slash pickups. I will do another video when it is finished.
Is it a veneer or is it legitimately one solid piece? link website if possible pls.
If you want a Gibson-copy - Buy a Epiphone
If you wand a Gibson - Buy a Gibson!
Had an Epiphone before gave it away in the end as it was terrible electronics went wrong the quality was non existent etc , Tokai make the best les paul copies ive ever played
If they want chibson buy gibson not chinder
@@dongdelacruz1250 epiphone headstock is ugly af
Gibson's are an absolute rip off and its nothing short of pure greed the mark-up. Their prices are outrageous and I'm taking in to consideration the history, building up the brand. the fact that Gibson designed the original style through Les Paul and the extra cost of Labour in the US compared with the Chinese.
There are plenty of real good legit Les Paul copies if you decide not to buy the Chibson, check out the Vintage Pete Green lemon drop that cost under $500. I would advise your viewers not to buy Gibson's, there simply not worth the money.
Fender, which is no angel, as a corporation is better than Gibson. At least they keep their management for some time.
lol...
Sustain for ever?
Are you....Nigel Tufnel?
What about prs guitars?
@ Sceptic T: ""Don't touch it.! Don't even point at it." "It's kind of a Zen thing; playing it would be kind of like unvirgining a virgin."
+Ankur Chakrabarti The SE and SE Standard stuff from PRS is great, and definitely worth what they're charging for it.
Chris, you spoke throughout the video of making various upgrades. What did you eventually do & what did you spend? Could you please let me know in U.S. dollars? Thanks
Anthony James Please see the other two videos about this guitar on the channel for all the info about upgrades!
Do you know if angelas guitar is still open?
Is the copy good enough to play out and not worry as much about theft or damage. Cause even though mine's ONLY a studio I did work to it to make it right for me.
Can you tell me what amp and cabinet and peddles you are using. Thanks
The amp is a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 36 into an Ampeg cab with a Celestion V30. No pedals are used.
Where is the link for where you got it?
Did you choose one of the free shipping methods? Cause I live in Canada too and all the ones I see cost anywhere from $300 to 500$.. but the free ones range from saying 5 to 25 days and i don't know if i trust a guitar being shipped for that long, it might break..
+GoodEyeFilms2k Mine had free shipping and shipped fairly quickly. Nothing was broken on arrival; they pack the box well.
I’ve got 3 chibsens , 1 was in a case., 2 in the foam. I think the foam case has better protection. The is no room for the guitar to move. The case had room in it where the guitar could move, thankfully the case one is 👍 fine. The one I bought relic, has the real Gibson bridge.
What are the bridge and neck pick ups on the Gibson guitar?
Gibson 496R and 500T.
I would like to know where I can get one. I have a 2000 Gibson SG. I love that one, but I am getting old and just want another toy. I would like the real thing, but it won't get enough playing time. If you can share where I can get a chibson, many thanks.
Do you have a link to his Aliexpress page?
