    This has such a ferocious intensity it's kind of sonically disarming but you must listen repeatedly and it gets more and more enjoyable. The intensity increases as her voice does toward the latter part of the song

    i haven't seen anyone mention this yet so...
    i'm just here to say that i feel pretty sure that when she says “you’re wearing time like a flowery crown/sittin there sittin that big cat down” she’s describing the image on the “strength” tarot card: a woman, wearing a crown of flowers, who calmly stands or sometimes sits beside a ferocious lion, whom with her graceful tender strength, she has tamed. in tarot tradition this card means courage, survival; inner strength and fortitude in times of danger and distress. it can also mean compassion and patience for others at your own expense. in the context of this song, it’s a chillingly powerful image. it’s haunting, really; one of her finest lyrics.
    and...it’s possible that the follow up lines, “i’m alone on the summit now/trying not to let my light go out” describe the hermit card, on which a cloaked figure stands alone atop a mountain or on a precipice, holding a lantern; this card means solitude, spiritual truth, personal growth and hard-won knowledge; seeking the answers you can find only by swimming deep where no one can follow.
    strength is the 8th card in the tarot, and the hermit is the 9th.

      focalized There are many people who are dismissive towards anything that doesn’t align with their genre leanings or what they’d typically listen to. I think some metal-heads and hard rock lovers enjoy how raw and emotional Fiona’s vocals are, the frequently dark vibe the album has, and how the album plays up discordant and unsettling instrumentation. But if you’re a legit fan of all types of music, I don’t get not liking this or at least appreciating it.

    I too used to want him to be proud of me
    And then I just wanted him to make amends
    I wonder what lies he’s telling you about me
    To make sure that we’ll never be friends

      yes, sort of...Waits´album sounds way less self conscious than this, though, more organic, less contrived...sounds like old Kate Bush, too, but without the rattling chain samples and throbbing drum...it is sort of like FA got tangled up in all that time between albums, she got all caught up in thought vines....I will have to keep listening

      @@aakashsky3790 I might say this song is about a hard and rough time at school, something Fiona was capable of withstanding just because a girl (I remind she saying she was unsure if Shameika was real or an invention of her mind) told her she had potential and talent for stuff outside of traditional school.

    • @oight
      @oight 4 роки тому +16

      @@FernandoMartinez-om2nj i really don't see anything in this particular song about her time at school. there are that on other songs in the album like that, but not this song. this is more about being in a relationship with a toxic man, and the feelings you get after breaking up wondering if you could have been friends with his new girlfriend if he had not been a barrier in between. these men will try to pin his current and past girlfriends against each other, when really he is the one at fault. also this feeling of feeling close to one of the few other people in the world that know what it's like to experience the exact abuse your ex did to you.

    • @liteflightify

      This isn’t reminiscent of anything is Regina’s catalog. Regina has never taken advantage of industrial-type production. Her music has never been drum and percussion (beyond piano) driven. Nor is this similar to anything from Regina lyrically or vocally. Sometimes it feels like people think every moody, “quirky” white female musician sounds the same.
