I always wondered what to do with those bits of wood. Thank you.
+Roberta Sawatsky thank you for commenting yes so many people ask me the same question
Extremely helpful, thank you dearly for sharing!! God bless you☺👍
So kind thank you
Clive your the best artist on UA-cam I've seen
Wow that's so kind
Cinnamon Cooney directed several of us to your video. Thank you for explaining how to use the wood chips to stretch the canvas.
That's great cinnamon and I are doing a collaboration soon so keep and eye out for it thanks Clive
Thanks very intuitive, I use art markers and Bristol board for my drawings but... I have recently started to try oil painting, so I'm looking for any tips thanks👍👍👍
I love your song. It is so cute.
Thank you Clive.
Happy to help thank you
I think if you put them in the other way and put two in each corner than the angle pieces will fit together and it would make an even stretch
I'm new at acrylic painting. And I find your instructional videos very helpful. I was wondering, do you apply the gesso while the canvas is still wet? I'm afraid that it might crack when it dries. Thank you in advance for answering this question. :)
It's applied to a dry or damp canvas and as it's only very thin it will not crack
thanks clive
Your welcome
Thank you for this Video! Is there also a Video on how you put the 2 coats gesso on?

Dear Mr. Clive, thank you very much for your videos - I have learned a lot from you! I have one video request - if it is possible can you make a video about how to package a canvas painting for shipping? Thank you very much and God bless you!
I can the best thing to do is use hardboard on front and back then wrap it that’s all I can suggest
I'm a complete beginner.. i know how to buy the paint i just dont know how to keep up with canvas.. is this how an artist does every time you want to paint ? or are there already made ones that can be purchased
They come ready to paint some come with the keys you have to fit
I like the music
thank u Clive...I've been doing it all wrong!
There is more than one way but this is my preferred way it works for me and I'm happy to share
Clive, the canvass stretchers do you remove them when the painting is finished, cured? silly question i know haha but non the less :)
Leave them in place once fitted
Why do you have to wet the whole canvas first before putting the wooden keys? What is the purpose of it?
What it does is loosen the canvas fibres then adding the keys tighten it up as it dries it then goes vet taught thus making it a better surface
After the gesso is applied and the canvas dries, do the keys ever get removed or are they to remain on the canvas frame indefinitely? Great instruction, by the way. Thanks!
They stay in place only removed or tightened when or if restoring the canvas
I see. I am 1000% novice. Please forgive my ignorance :) Thank you for your response. And excellent videos!!
Anytime any question I'm happy to help
Clive, this is the second video of yours I've recently seen regarding prepping canvases and you've inserted them differently on each one. This one on the diagonal and the other was with the long straight edge running parallel with the canvas. I'm now a little confused which is correct. Does it really matter as long as the canvas becomes taut? Regards, Ian.
If I did that I'm sorry the flat edge should be horizontal to the stretcher bar but if it's taught it's taught
hey - a fellow Welshman if I'm not mistaken
+dave owen certainly am
I've been tossing them...oh boy, now I know
Don't throw anything away that comes with anything there is always a need for a odds draw that what I say
Clive
OHHHHHHH.... boy, do I feel stupid!
They do work well
