I was 14 years old when this came out. I was in middle school. I'd be sitting at the lunch table and I or someone else would bring up "You see thirteen ghosts?" and of course the guy splitting in two from the door would be mentioned. Of course the nudity with the Princess ghost had to be mentioned. Not by me, I'm not that kind of person...not that I have any issue with sex, but I remember at least two people bringing it up. I've always liked it. Was always a fan of Mathew Lillard; Serial mom and Scream. One of my favorite shows is the show Monk with Tony Shalhoub. So right there, it appealed to me. Also...some good music and songs. Pretty cool ghosts. My only real issue with the movie is the shaky cam and the ghosts constantly going in and out far too fast. Kind of a whiplash effect...but hell, I'm a fan of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters which definitely has a whiplash effect. As much as I love that movie, the whiplash effect really bothers me. I'd love it a lot more if it didn't have it. But ya, I like Thirteen ghosts. Although I do prefer The house on haunted hill. Which I actually never really gave that movie a chance back when it first came out. I saw it, more then once...but I never thought too much of it. A couple years ago I went "I really need to revisit that movie. Maybe it's better then I originally thought' and ya, it was far better then I originally remember. Rewatched Thirteen ghosts in 2021 and again, still enjoyed it.
I bought the DVD as soon as it came out a long time ago and yes glass house, ghost, I thought I was one of the few that really liked it. Glad to hear you guys enjoyed as well.
@ChristianHannaHorror. This sounds awesome! I’ll be checking it out on HBO Max today since, it’s in their horror section and I’m feeling like I need a good horror movie to creep me out right now. I’m not a genre fanatic but, every now and then more so now and through the end of October I feel the allure of watching a lot more scary flicks than I usually do throughout the year, this I feel will be the perfect one to start off my Halloween scary movie binge I do every year since, next Friday is October 1st I first figure why not start it a week or so early this year.
I loved Lillard in SLC punk, tugs on my heart strings. This one I watched again recently, and the jump cuts were way too much for me. Constant blinking LOL

This was better left as a memory. I watched it for the first time since like 2005 and boy was that ending horrible! Even the effects towards the end looked like a video game but it's still decent... Good makeup on the ghosts. House on Haunted Hill is the best.
Ehhh, I don't think it's great. Hate the hyperactive editing and the smirking attitude. Better than the Ghost Ship remake, nowhere near the House on Haunted Hill remake.
@ChristianHannaHorror I got around to watching this movie and honestly I think I prefer Matthew Lillard’s performance in Scream to this one but, not to take anything away from this but, I just expected him to be a lot more over the top and zany compared to what he was in this. Maybe, that’s my fault because I grew up with the live action Scooby Doo films with him as Shaggy and that was one of the very first movie memories I had growing up and when I think of Matthew Lillard I think of over the top almost live action cartoon style zaniness but, I’m not saying that he didn’t have moments of that in this film but as far as horror performances from him I think it’s easily 2nd to Scream for me personally. I also didn’t really find the ghosts all that creepy to me except for two of them maybe 3 at most which were The Jackal which, as soon as the one lady that ends up being in league with the psychotic uncle of the dad when she said “The Jackal is basically the Charlie Manson Ghost.” That immediately made me think “Oh Shit, this has to be the most brutal and psychotic ghost that’s been unleashed in the film so far.” I think the most intense scene for me was I’ll admit I had the hots for the daughter while I was watching it played by Shannon Elizabeth and I have to say the most intense moment for me was when she was being straight up mauled by The Jackal and the dad only saw his daughter screaming and before he puts those glasses on he couldn’t see what was mauling his daughter he could only see her body being torn up and her screaming in pain.
Bro, KNB has been around since the 80s. Some of the best effects people in the business. They worked freelance during the early 80s and then all 3 met up on Evil Dead ll. After that they formed their own company KNB. Berger applied Robert’s Freddy make-up for Kevin Yagher on Nightmare 4, and they all worked on Nightmare 5 as KNB.
Oh I know it man, they’re legendary. Did I make it sound like I didn’t know who they were? Cause I know the work of the guys individually especially Greg! I just didn’t want to be incorrect if that wasn’t knb in the film! But you know it man they are legends. Love the work in army of darkness

I was never a big fan of Thirteen Ghosts, but I can relate to movie box art being a big part of looking for a movie to rent. I rented so many movies based on the VHS box art. I miss video stores.
