Leap of faith is a nice conversation with William Friedkin. I wouldn’t really call it a documentary. It’s two and a half hours of Friedkin talking AND NOTHING ELSE. And he loves to hear himself talk. It’s nice, it’s informative, but for me, a documentary includes multiple people.
I got my copy in and watched the Director’s Cut. Which is my favorite cut of the film. Btw the theatrical is the only way to have the original mono track play besides Atmos. Picture quality is ace. I myself noticed those few scenes being not on the same level in the Iraq scenes. One shot that really felt jarring was when the person ran to give the news of findings. It felt out of focus and super blurry. Its probably due to the cameras used. What I had a problem with was the last 25 minutes. The exorcism scene has been altered a few times within the home media market never retaining its original color grading. The only release you can find that keeps its unaltered appearance is the 97 theatrical dvd. I’ve never hated the bluish tint throughout its run but for some reason on the 4K the colors bleed and the image is blurry. Unsure why it was like that for the final minutes if it was because of the negative or Digital/HDR tinkering which looks to be a purple push in this version but regardless the rest of the film looks really good. I myself wish the special features were not so bleh besides the commentary but that’s why we keep the other home media releases. Worth the pick up for the price
My copy is arriving on Friday from Amazon. I just recently read the novel The Exorcist. I can’t wait to see this film on 4K. Though, it is getting really annoying that Warner keeps NOT putting extra features on 4K’s. That makes me nervous for A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Picked up the steelbook from Best Buy and checked it out tonight. I had fun rewatching the film, and definitely noticed those scenes where there was a quality drop !
I got the Steelbook (for the artwork). The colors on the slipcover are too warm. Normally, I wait for reviews, but I had to have this either way. Let's hope a nightmare on Elm Street has a better transfer and more special features.
I got the UK 4k cause it has the classic artwork, plus you get the blu-rays. I hate the American artwork, lol. I prefer the directors cut. I think overall, the 4k looked great. Great review, bro !
CHH Thanks for your honesty about the transfer unlike other channels who get sent copies and then just say the transfer is "As perfect as Can Be". Your honesty really helps us collectors know whether to double dip
This scene looked really bad on the directors cut 4k disc. Have not watched the theatrical. Have to pop in the old Blu ray to see what the heck happened here. Awful
The graininess moments are because those moments were possibly filmed with different cameras. Causing those shots to just have graininess that cannot be altered even with a restoration.
I went with the U.K. slip edition. Still holding onto my 40th anniversary hard box edition Blu-ray. The film looks great but yeah there are some scenes that look low quality especially the exorcism scene.
Got the Steelbook and have only watched the director's cut Another guy reviewing only that disc said there's quality drops in that but I didn't notice that. But, I will concur that Dolby Atmos isn't available for this cut. I'm digging it and can't wait to watch the theatrical cut. 🤘🙏
I remember watching The Exorcist as a young kid and asking my mom if this is real or if possession could happen to anyone. That's what made this movie so scary to me as a kid.
I'm surprised that your mother would even allow you to see The Exorcist (or any R-rated movie for that matter) because it's not a movie for kids to see.
I have the UK box set coming next month. Wasn’t cheap at £70 ! About $90 odd bucks in your money. I have the Arrow Psycho box set and The Wicker Man 50th Anniversary sets coming next week ! Can’t wait for those ! 🤘
New sub i have liked the video greetings from ireland the origonal film was banned here in ireland shortly after its release in 1974 until the lifiting of the ban in 1995 or 1996 oh boy did it scare the bejesus out of me 😂😂
It's disappointing that there is no extras on this I don't buy a 4K set unless it comes with a Blu-ray I don't like the artwork on this the Steelbook is a lot better plus I don't like the 100th anniversary logo at the top I bought the standard release of Evil Dead Rise just because I didn't care for the logo Amazon does have a set for ninety bucks coming out at the end of October with lobby cards it says there's extras on it and it's listed as Blu-ray but I don't think it is I still have my Blu-ray set with the poster art but I slept on the second set because I didn't like the artwork and now you can't find that one plus I have a single disc version on DVD and the complete movie collection Today I went to Walmart and picked up a couple T shirts I got a Michael Myers one and a Exorcist one but it's not the one you got I had no luck finding the Steelbook Lionsgate sets I recently watched Ghoulies on Blu-ray and had a blast watching it I did watch the making of but I got tired halfway through so I will have to watch it again I hope to watch Ghoulies 2 on Thursday night
You have way too many stipulations when buying your movies! Don't you buy 4K releases primarily for the 4K discs anyway, even if the Blu-ray is included? If you wanted The Exorcist on Blu-ray, you could've bought it years ago.
You should get the Apocalypse Now 4K if you want to see a gorgeous HDR transfer. Would you say this Exorcist UHD completely blows the old blu ray out of the water and into a dumpster?
It’s not the worst WB 4K but it is far from the best. The film is altered digitally and they don’t have a true theatrical present so I’m glad I have my vhs and dvd which have the original color and audio either the mono on vhs or the stereo on dvd. Shame since the new mix is very bad and sad since the original won and Oscar for being phenomenal but the stereo imo is the best audio choice for the film that was made after it won
My theory is that Warner purposely released a crappy version. Eventually, they will release a new restored version with the right colors and people will have no choice but to buy it again. This transfer sucks. It has nothing to do with what Friedkin inteded. The colors are way too saturated, some shots look like low resolution, they removed so much noise in some shots that they lost details, etc. The worst 4K disc I have EVER seen. The version you WISH you've never seen.
Hello Planet CHH hope you're well my awesome friend . I love the Exorcist it's one of the greatest horror film's of all time . but unfortunately its not the series of films . the only sequel I like is Exorcist 3 . hopely the new Films will change that but my Hope's are not high with David Gordon green directing them . hope you're having a Awesome morning my awesome friend .
Oh no, you're missing out on the audio big time! If you're going to continue reviewing 4K and Blu-ray movies, you MUST upgrade your sound system with a Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatible receiver with individual speakers, for you to give an accurate, reliable audio review of the sound quality that 4K UHD discs has to offer. You've got the TV but not the sound! With all those 4K and Blu-ray movies, you don't have Dolby Atmos, DTS:X nor lossless HD audio? You can't give credible 4K movie reviews without the proper audio equipment. Besides the video, you're not getting the full benefit of the audio on 4K releases, especially on physical media which are far superior to streaming. If you think The Exorcist and your other 4K movies sounded good on your soundbar and subwoofer, you haven't heard nothing yet. Wait until you upgrade your sound system with a Dolby Atmos/DTS:X receiver and speakers (hopefully) and I will guarantee, you will be amazed.
@@DaveG777 If you haven't heard the Dolby Atmos soundtrack of The Exorcist on 4K, don't knock it until you've listened to it because you just might like it.
I have a digital movie code for this movie that I will not be using. So I wanted to know if CHH is cool with me posting the code in the comments?
Go for it!
For some reason UA-cam is not uploading my comment with the code in it. Maybe they think it's spam.@@PlanetCHH

I did notice the graininess you’re talking about, particularly when Karras was walking with Kinderman talking about Burke’s death.
Thanks for putting us onto the William Friedkin documentary. It's playing on regular Amazon Prime video (outside of Shudder) as well.
If that 100th anniversary logo was a sticker Christian would have stuck it on his slip cover anyway 💯
I get genuinely excited when a new Planet CHH video drops. 😀 👍🏻
Yes very..

Always. Thanks for watching
The exorcism scene looks DNR’d in a few spots and very low quality. That may be the scene you’re talking about.
It happens a few times but this is definitely where I noticed it most. Which is unfortunate because its the climax of the film!

My parents were more concerned about me not seeing movies with tits and cussing. I guess this one got a pass because it was based on religion lol.
I got the Steelbook version.
4k is a HELL OF A DRUG 💯

What version of the movie does the digital code redeem?
Waiting for that UK release because I’m a mark.
The UK release is already available.
Not the Bible edition or the ultimate collectors edition. Those aren't shipping until next month.
Do your blu tay copies have the same low res frames?

Can’t wait to get the Ultimate Collectors Edition.
Unfortunately it won’t arrive until Oct 23. At least I can watch it on Halloween. 👹
No Horror film had the impact, this film had, when it was released.
Ugh, I am so happy I'm not the only one who hates that 100 Years tag. It's so annoyingly big.
Is it just me or is that black and white demon face even creepier than the demonic Regan?
I have the dvd, however potiently during Black Friday I will pick up the 4K.
lol EVERYBODY hates the cover art
Got the steelbook RIP William, good review CHH
Nice. Love this movie, always have. I’m still waiting for my hard box(same art as steelbook) edition to be released in October.
I picked it up, it's ok, I wanted more to be honest

Soundbars are good enough these days, especially the Samsung soundbars with subwoofer.
You’ve must never heard a good Dolby Atmos/ DTS:X sound system. Soundbars can't compare to an high end or state of the art A/V receiver and speakers.
Original mono all day.
