@Jordon Graff I’ve had a bit of a play with it since posting this. I think typically crushed akadama is used. Very expensive in Australia but part of what makes it effective is the high amount of silt. Peat is mixed through to help with absorption and water retention. I have a little wabi kusa recently set up using UNS Controsoil crushed and mixed with finely chopped spagnum moss. The ratio of peat/soil will affect the consistency. Not all aqua soils are equal though, i don’t believe the ADA range has the similar level of silt compared to controsoil. Hope that helps!
@@crizpycheese8287 Akadama? Those are pretty hard and don't break down in water. Unless he uses the ones that aren't double baked? Sorry. Was just wondering because I'd like to make a vivarium myself some time soon as well.

i'd reckon he doesnt turn the mistmaker on all the time tho, mayb on days when he's expecting guests or mayb for 4-5 hours per day mayb (i might be wrong tho) plus, if i were to look at the whole scape with mist 24/7 it'd lose its value visual-wise and lose its magical charm mayb about a month in

The only that comes to my mind is that this is so mist-ical
wonderfully peaceful. this would be amazing in a reading room or library in your home
It's so satisfying when he uses the sticky soil. And the mist is like heavy, cloudy water. Did that even make sense?😅
if you squint a little, it looks like a giant waterfall viewed from 30 or 40 meters back. the mist flows so nicely

What soil does he use? It seems to have a fair amount of clay content in it and easy to work with.
In videos before, he used keto soil mixed with akadama and sphagnum moss
