    Disclaimer: I’m sorry if my English it’s not perfect, it’s not my first language. But I want to share my experience and what I learned about YWAM
    I’ve grow up in a YWAM base, my parents met on a YWAM school, and all my life I been associated with YWAM. I have been part of 3 different YWAM bases and all my friends were part of YWAM as well. I met Loren, as well others amazing teachers from all over the world. Once I left YWAM I was very sad for even thought I had some bad experience, the overall experience of my DTS and of all those years as a ywamer was really awesome. Even after I left I was encouraging people to go, Christians and non Christian cause I thought that it would get them close to God.
    A while after I left I started struggling with my faith as many others once they leave YWAM. But for the grace of God, He opened my eyes for He’s truth. Once I was a born again Christian I started questioning many things I was thought in YWAM, and once I started looking deep into I came to realize that many of the ground teachings there were in contradiction with the Bible ( if you would like to know more about that feel free to ask), I was broken, I felt that I have been lied and fooled all this time. I understand where you coming from doing this video, and how you want to share to the world this amazing experience, I really do, cause that was me too. But our on experiences cannot overrule the truth of scripture, and when they contradict each other then we have a problem. For all people out there thinking of joking YWAM I suggested that you do your research and read your bibles to see what your getting yourself into. For all that have been I’m YWAM and loved it, and perhaps are thinking of staying there I also suggest that you read your Bible and let the scripture speak for itself, your personal revelation it’s not the final authority, the work of God is. Don’t read the Bible with your own interpretation but read in its context, what God it’s saying. I understand that there’s people of God in the YWAM, I also understand that people make mistakes and there’s ungodly people in any big organization. We can talk for a long time about the abuses cause in YWAM base ( which there’s many), we can also talk about the wonderful experiences many had in YWAM, and I’m not trying to diminish any ones experience. I’m just saying that we need to look beyond our personal experience to make a judgment, and God’s work is infallible and where our faith should be.

      That's a very wise word! I 100% agree. God's word should be held higher than any of our personal experiences (positive or negative). Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

    To anyone considering doing YWAM... I would HIGHLY recommend researching things like "ywam cult" or "ywam abuse" to hear the other side of the story. There are some disgusting practices within ywam bases and certain leaders. I am so glad that I got out of ywam but I still suffer trauma from it to this day. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I beg of you do your research I wish I had listened to my gut before doing my DTS. It is not what it is cracked up to be. My spiritual life was shattered after ywam and so many people have the same story. If you DO end up going or are there right now, PLEASE keep your eyes and ears open and LEAVE if ANYTHING starts to feel iffy.

      I can’t speak for all YWAM bases but the base I attended in Kona was amazing. It was the most spiritually formative period of my life. I met the most incredible people who are still my best friends to this day. I met Jesus for the first time and my life was changed. God used YWAM as a tool for me to meet Jesus. I don’t doubt that there are some bases that might be iffy and I’m not going to try and justify/defend YWAM as a whole but when I attended in 2015, I experienced nothing concerning whatsoever.

      @LeviVaagenes  4 роки тому

      I actually took a leadership development course in Lakeside Montana called DTS Equip, followed by staffing a DTS in 2016 with Awaken DTS and ended up leading a team to Amsterdam. The following year (2017) I staffed another DTS and lead a team to the Philippines! After that, I felt the Lord calling me home so I currently live and work in Minneapolis, Minnesota! There are so many opportunities with YWAM after you complete your DTS! If you find yourself with a free 6 weeks, I HIGHLY recommend participating in the DTS Equip course. It not only teaches you how to lead as a staff or school leader with YWAM but I found that all of the information is so applicable to being an everyday faith-filled leader wherever you are!

    Just seeing this! This video really helped so much. I sent my application today and hoping I get in, although, the DTS doesn’t start till August. When should I expect an acceptance? Also, I’m
    SUPER interested into photography. I got my portfolio accepted with a high score at multiple art schools but felt God pulling me towards this program a lot. I selected media as a track but not sure what to expect out of that. I’m looking to later take the photo 1 course after my DTS at kona. How did you get into photography and videography??? how do the “tracks” work ? I applied to Fire and Fragrance. Thanks!

    • @LeviVaagenes
      @LeviVaagenes  4 роки тому +1

      That is so exciting! I have many friends on staff with Fire and Fragrance out in Kona. When I was on staff with DTS, we would begin accepting students as far as 6 months before the DTS start date! Fire and Fragrance is one of many DTS's that offer "tracks" such as photography, business, marketing, medical, and even tracks such as nautical training. Almost every track in DTS is taught the same teachings, however they will teach you by using examples based on your track. For example, let's say that the lesson for the week is "How to Hear God's voice" In the business track, they'll bring in a speaker who's in the business world. And for the photography track, they'll bring in a speaker who's working in the photography realm! Same teachings, just taught through a different lens. During your outreach phase you'll also be more likely to use photography during ministry times. When people in the photography track came back to Kona after outreach, the photography DTS put on a show during graduation and showed the campus all the photos they took while on outreach. It was pretty cool.
      I discovered videography just a couple months before I went on my DTS outreach to Nepal in 2015. I watched a film by The Ekballo Project where they went to Nepal and made a documentary of what God was doing in the nations. I was captivated by the film and I knew I wanted to do the exact same thing as them. So I spent all of my savings on a camera and took it to Nepal! The rest is history! Every day since then, I've been falling more and more in love with the art of storytelling. Its such a powerful way for God to speak.
      Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions! I'll let the F&F squad know you're coming! :)

    • @LeviVaagenes
      @LeviVaagenes  4 роки тому

      @@jasminaohl2289 When I interview potential students I usually ask questions about their relationship with the Lord. i.e. When did you become a Christian? What is the Lord teaching you in this season of your life? What are some things that you want to get out of DTS? We basically just want to get to know you to see if you'd be a good fit for the program! You'd be surprised how many people apply to DTS not even knowing what they signed up for. They'll also ask some personal questions for legality purposes such as if you have a history of depression/alcohol abuse etc. stuff like that. Other than that, it's super low-key!

      @wanderonart, I'm so extremely sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to you, I can imagine this must be an extremely difficult time for you. I looked it up and it looks like there are a few YWAM locations in your area. Here's a link to a map so you can see if one works best for you! ! *www.ywam.org/map/* The cost of DTS varies depending on which location you go to but for my entire 9 month DTS in Kona, Hawaii it was just under 9K. (That's factoring in everything. housing, food, international travel etc.) Where you are, you probably wouldn't have to pay for housing, food, air travel, etc since you're so close, so I'd assume the cost to be about half what mine was. Maybe 4K-5K? I don't know if that helps answer any questions you might have but please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions! I believe the closest DTS location to you is Boston. Here's their website. www.ywamboston.org

    • @LeviVaagenes
      @LeviVaagenes  3 роки тому

      @@AndrineMarie Sorry i should have clarified! DTS in Kona is always 6 months but if you choose to come back on staff with DTS, you're there for 9 months in total! You arrive 3 months before the students arrival date for leadership training. So for staff it's 9 months! I picked Awaken DTS because I knew someone who had done it back in 2013 and said it was amazing. Truthfully I thought Awaken was the only DTS that existed in Kona so I didn't know any different. My absolute favorite thing about Awaken DTS is how small and intimate it is. Class sizes when i was there ranged from 40 - 55 students in compared to the sometimes 200-300 students in F&F. Both are great but I definitely preferred the smaller community. Really allowed me to dive deep with everyone in my school! Let me know if that answered your question!

    YWAM used to be solid 10 years ago, there’s no accountability on what they teach and who speaks there, and leaders don’t have to have any prerequisites other than DTS to lead which makes for leaders who don’t know Gods Word as much as they should. YWAM is now extremely charismatic and apostolic, and are EXTREMELY soft on the gospel and focus on experiences and prophetic words (sometimes that contradict the Bible) instead of God’s written word. Many people from the Kona base are currently not continuing with outreach after DTS or are leaving mid-DTS due to the disconnect from scripture and messed up sermons and messages.
    Look into other schools, YWAM has no accountability to stay in solid teaching like it used to.

    • @LeviVaagenes
      @LeviVaagenes  2 роки тому +1

      I will admit that YWAM Kona specifically has changed A LOT since I was there in 2015. At the time of making this video i was still highly recommending it to people who asked about it. As of 2022, I don’t really know anyone in leadership at the Kona base anymore, most of my friends have left for many different reasons (not all bad) I have noticed that it’s evolved into a highly charismatic culture, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but if that’s all it’s known for, that might be an issue. I’ll have to rewatch the video and see what all I said back then. I feel like even now it’s still just a matter of discernment whether it’s right for you.
