📚 Description: The original Space-guitar - the Jackson Roswell Rhoads. This guitar was graciously lent to me by a viewer of the show. I generally don't accept fan guitars outside of sponsored episodes and consignments, but this opportunity was too good to pass up! I just happened to buy a Gibson Modern Flying V to compare it to as well. Happy Halloween, this is the Trogly's Guitar Show 2020 Halloween Special.
Another difference between these two guitars are the Jackson Roswell Rhoads is a 25.5" scale length whereas the Gibson Modern Flying V is 24.75"

TENON is the word you're looking for. It's how they stick the necks into set neck guitars, too, right?

Great content Austin, Thank You.
Good Playing in the Demo of each, thanks to Mr. Weber.
And lastly, a really big thank you to the Man who sent you that guitar for documentation, thank you Sir.
Thanks to whoever shared that Jackson for us too see. Really special guitar! ✨
You’re welcome! 👽
Diff. Intro music threw me...
I remember this guitar from a video for a song called "freak" by silverchair.
Man what a cool guitar.
Ahh yes Australian nirvana
@@harry_mair yup. My wife loves them. Hhmm.
@@saltpeter7429 Now does she? I never dove deep into their discography , but maybe i should.
Yeah!
@@simonfinch9277 check out diorama better than earlier albums
I can't focus on the guitars while Webber is playing. The faces he makes looks like you mistakenly walked in on his "private time"
Agreed 🙄
😂😂😂
For a man that tears apart guitars for a living, you should have a full set of hex keys. Imperial and metric. If the Gibson had the Jackson inlays, I’d be set. But I think I’ll stay with my single cuts. The pointiest guitars I have at the moment are a V and an Explorer. But I’ll pull the trigger on something crazy within the next year. I’m an 80’s kid, so I gotta have at least one ridiculous guitar. I’m thinking BC Rich. I had a purple Warlock and a black Ironbird back in the day. Wished I still had them. 🤘🏻
I've got a Washburn USA custom shop model from the 80's, that used to belong to the lead guitarist from a band called Fahrenheit & it's the freakiest, pointiest thing you've ever seen, complete with a Floyd-Rose. It's so ugly, it's kinda cool lol.
@@jubei7259 l would LOVE to see that axe..could you be so kind as to send me a pic? jimitriple@gmail.com l love unusual guitars! Thanks! Jim
BC rich prices are through the roof at the moment. They've become a collectors guitar. Bronze series have been going for $500usd.
If Tom Delonge ever does a reissue for his signature model, it should look like this!
Aliens exist!
If he does that with this type of model of Jackson or Gibson it should be called The Aliens Exist Delonge reissue
@@MisterJawaman yupp
He's trash
@@danieljennings6144 I havent ever heard of a Daniel Jennings signature guitar....
that jackson is INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! u needa find more obscure guitars like these in your videos more often, and i mean OBSCURE
I mean...he used to be more specifically about 70s-80s obscure Gibson, so....he's done that for the longest time
This is more than a little obscure. I am a Jackson fan, cant have enough. Dont know if I would want this one at all. Pretty sure I dont. Good find Trogly.
But it for him then
For a VERY obscure Jackson, check out the Custom Shop Zoraxe (from the Zelda video game). There were only 7 made...all hand-carved and painted. I had the chance to buy one in the early 2000's, guy was selling one on Ebay with case included he won in a raffle. He didn't even play guitar. lol so it was unplayed and completely mint. He was asking $3,500...all I could get $3k, but he wouldn't bite. I regret not getting a quick loan or something for the other $500 ever since. They're going for $10k - $15K nowadays.
EDIT: I thought there were 3 made-there were originally 7 total. They were commissioned by Nintendo Power magazine for a video game promotion to be made by Master luthier Dan Lawrence of the Jackson Custom Shop.
My dream guitar
the intro music caught me so off guard because of the changed pitch lol
I remember learning about these from Amir Derakh back in the late 90s. Was a huge Orgy fan back then.
OMG I remember seeing these in catalogs when I was in high school. I never would have thought of this thing the rest of my life you hadn’t have made this video.
OMG!!! I'VE NEVER CLICKED ON A VIDEO FASTER!
I remember doing work experience in a guitar shop for 2 weeks when I was 15 years old (20 years ago) and THIS Jackson guitar was hanging above the door leading to the back office.
I never plucked up the courage to ask if I could try it out, but I just drooled over it for 14 days. Man, you've brought back some memories with this one Trogly! Thanks for the upload
It's amazing how much effort you put into these videos with little details and making them more interesting like the "laser" and many other "effects". Thank you for all your hard work.
The best part of my day is getting out of work, grabbing a guitar and beer and watching Trogly’s! Great episode and that Studio Custom XPL video was beautiful! Appreciate all you do for the guitar community👍🏼
Isn't that part of Bender's body, he'll want that back.
Those tuners are like the one that red eye gibson prototype that you had
LSRs are wild tuners lol
They also remind me of Steinberger tunors.
That purple v is the coolest paint on a guitar I’ve ever seen!
I feel like we need the Lock Picking Lawyer just to restring that Roswell Rhoads
I just discovered his channel yesterday. It's weirdly compelling.
highly underrated comment tbh
Loved how the normal intro was a tuned down to a minor key and it sounds great man
I think I favor the Gibson but the Rhodes is awesome none the less
Happy holloweenn
That is awesome! I saw it in the original Jackson catalog as I'm a big fan of the brand, but never got to see one to this day!
So glad to see that Michael is back in another episode! He adds a great balance to your show. Like his cool vibe and hope to see more of him. Love the demonstrations. Keep up the good work, both of you!
Coolest ever fret inlays! Crop Circles- too cool. I was keeping my fingers crossed...please sound good, please sound good.
"It was not directly based on the Star Trek logo...However Charles was watching Next Gen re-runs when he fell asleep that night, so..."
-Tim Wilson (Probably)
Amir Derakh of the band Orgy played a modified version of these with a slightly different body shape, iridescent paint, and a roland synth pickup
This guitar was my dream guitar when I was a teen in the mid 90’s.
That intro was great.. the LED over the guitar is a great, parsimonious effect. Well done Trog
I just wrapped up watching the original Wrath of Khan and now I see this posted!
Great movie..
Khaaaaaaaan
Its about time I saw a Jackson on this show lol
Yeah, but this one? I get the Halloween vibe and all but, I am a Jackson fan. Real ones with less gimmick.
@@saltpeter7429 True lol This is one of the many Jackson guitars that I'd probably never own but I would want to pick one up and play it.... I'm a "Golden Era" Charvel and Jackson collector and player but I stop after the last Professional models in 1995... I'm going to sell off a lot of guitars here soon to replace them with 80s San Dimas era Jacksons... only TM logod headstocks
Awesome video Trogly!!! Really glad the modern V showed up just in time! That Jackson is definitely something special! It was definitely a lil bit brighter, I would guess it's mostly because it's just a pickup, volume and an output. Where as the Gibson has a lot more wiring overall.
Ive been drooling over the roswell since i was a kid its literally my dream guitar 🤤
Hey Trogly, cool intro, this guitar is a beast!!!
Trogly, you have become my favorite youtuber! I stumbled across your channel back in December and now I look forward to getting off work for my daily dose of guitar infotainment! Such a cool video showcasing a guitar I didn’t know even existed! Such a treat! Thanks for such amazing content during perilous times!
Silverchair - Freak
Daily viewer here and I am noticing that this looks extra great. New camera ? Thank you !
featuring tool in the intro
Tone Woods???!!!???
Where We're Going, We Don't Need Tone Woods!
On my system here, that Jackson sounded AWESOME!... drooling. :P HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
Trussart makes metal guitars for a long time now.
ua-cam.com/video/72FWCpXaTmw/v-deo.html
agree. Tonewood is a myth.
Worth noting that a set of Tom Holmes pickups costs about as much as a used Gibson Flying-V too.
Duuuuuude!!!!!! Yes!!!!!! Didnt Amir Derakh play one of these?
Yeah. Kind of his signature model when it was released
I'm so glad you're willing to also look into other brands! This is awesome!
Beautiful machining, a lot of work went into that body
I personally liked the tone of the Roswell better. Much more clarity.
I just saw the fretboard! Wow
One of my dream guitars.
Holy shit you found a real aluminium Roswell!!!! Loved this guitar since it first appeared in the Silverchair 'Freak' video!
AWESOME!! Never thought I'd see those two guitars in one video.
Thank you for reviewing that! Roswell Rhoads is my favorite odd-ball guitar
aww man that Roswell sounds AMAZING very clear and every note is right there! the gibson just sounds like a guitar the Jackson sounds like a voice
In another unearthly turn of events, Tom Holmes designed the Gibson ‘57 Classic pickups!
The choice for aluminum could've been inspired by the fact that a substance similar to aluminum foil was found at the site of the Roswell crash
Troglie, you have gotten awesome at your reviews with your playing, and you are getting better with every one!! I love your humility, but let's keep it in house!! I love watching you and your progress as a player!!!!!
Love your show
Great review and excellent choice for a Halloween episode. This shape is growing on me as is the Modern V. The hollow aluminum body is very very cool looking. God bless and rock on 😎🎸👍
You needed the ESP George Lynch V for the full trio. It still baffles me you haven't even done an ESP yet..
Ah yes the ESP Super V.
I would like to see you review a Martin electric guitar sometime if you haven't already. Have a good day. I will look through your back videos, and try to see if you have.
Super cool Halloween video!! Well done
The pattern on the aluminum reminds me of the side trim of a 57 Chevy Belair!
I wish this thing had an aluminum neck, they sound different and it would have torn faces off with one. I love my aluminum necked Kramer
@@fladification it definitely makes it sound different. Better? Debatable. But definitely different.
@@fladification You can calm your friend with that the material of the neck and the body of the guitar makes next to no difference to the sound plugged in. Still, an aluminium neck makes it really stable and cool looking so yes, it would be cooler with one!
@@adamskold6395 Flat earthers in the house .
I like them both! And thanks to the owner for letting you review it
I was fortunate to have a friend who has one of those Jacksons. It’s awesome and sounds great!!!
Wow that Jackson is cool! Thanks Austin!
Excellent. Thank you for this. Lovely guitars in my opinion. Good of the viewer to allow you to borrow the Jackson too.
You gotta check out the Roswell that Black Diamond Custom Guitars built. All korina with a flip flop blue finish and a crazy space themed inlay on the fret board.
Been waiting for u to review some jacksons
Darn i love how this dude really gets into it.
VERY COOL EPISODE, NICE WORK AUSTIN!
The Jackson sounds a bit better and looks much better. It’s an easy choice for me if we forget about the money involved.
FYI - You don't need a hex wrench to work those tuners. When it pops you just turn counterclockwise to release the string. Call me crazy but for years I used LSR tuners on all of my guitars. 👦🏻
He's right! I have a set on my maple fretboard Jackson RR24
I remember those tuners for sell aftermarket in England in the 90's . Always thought it was an ingenious idea.
I love the trekkie vibe of that guitar
Damn that arch is beautiful
Finally the Roswell... !!! I'm so fan of this guitar... and fan of Silvershare... Thanks for the review.
Huh, huh, huh. Hey Beavis. Share some of that silver, why dont ya? Huhhh, hhhh.
@@saltpeter7429 🤣 i also fan am of Guns 'n' violets....🤣🤣🤣

Silverchair - Freak... is where you can see it...
Thanks to show Michael Weber to me, he rocks!
And the guitar is really nice.
The output jack location on the Gibson V (20:10) recalls the 79-80 V2.
trogly are you hip to the cort 45 guitar ... i really love mine .
That jackson is insane!
🎶 Body and soul, I'm a freak, I'm a freak 🎶🎸
Both are awesome looking
This is why i watch your channel! Ive seen these and wondered how good they sound! Very rare and expensive! I still want one!
Great content, love the Jackson!
18:14 really cool sound. Never heard that before. I will be spending the rest of the day attempting to duplicate it. Thank you for giving me something to do.
You actually don't need a hex key to change strings with LSR tuners. You just loosen the string till the shaft pops out then turn it a bit further and that unlocks the string. I used them on some of my custom guitars back when they were available.
Props to you for warning of the blue laser beam coming outta that UFO knob🛸10:00. People could get hurt.
is the A string tuner crooked, or do the tuners also twist as part of the tuning process?
You should get a PC1 to review. I love mine. Great guitar.
I first saw this guitar in the Silverchair - Freak video... what a time to be alive.
Love it Trog!! Very cool axe in aluminum! So much for that "warm rich mahogany tone!" It had a fantastic tone! I have always believed tone is in the pick up and amp choice.. not to mention the players hands! Your lil Joey Perry there was shredding that aluminum pretty hard and super clean player! Impressive all the way around.. honestly the Jackson is ultra cool..the Gibson??? Well.. lm sure its far superior sound and player wise but it just doesn't have that outrageousness to it. The tuners say it all..its really a work of art that is from the 90s and STILL way ahead of its time! Id love one in titanium neck through construction, Ti neck, headstock, body, one peice of 1/8" thin polished stainless steel board with Ti frets, nut and saddles !! Yeee HAAA SIGN ME UP!!😆 HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Thanks for your work! Makes my day quiet often!
So happy to see you with a Jackson in your hands. Maybe in the future you'll fall just as in love with them as me!
I really enjoy the "professional guitarrist" for the tone demos. It definitely adds another dimension to the tone demo.
Gold prism one looks great
Those tuners on the Jackson are kinda hurting my head... 😂
it's because the A string tuner is CROOKED and it's fucking with me too
Yeah, that A tuner... :O
This thing is awesome!
I want one of these so badly holy crap
Very great video trogly
That knob is the cutest thing ever xD
Jackson wins on tone for me, the Gibson sounded stuffy in comparison. I'm a proud owner of a Jackson USA Rhoads, but it's a busted-up '84 Student/Kahler model. I dropped it to B.
Great episode! I've wanted a Roswell Rhoads since it came out. Back then, I was in a band called the Roswell Incident, and it would have been perfect. Sadly, I couldn't afford one, even if I could have found one. I'm not sure I could ever justify buying one now, buy I'll keep dreaming. It was great to see one documented.
Re. The pickup cover screws, I know this type of screw as "socket head" "set screws" over here in the UK and if the head has a straight cut for screwdriver, over here they are known as "cheese heads" owing to their resemblance to a round of maturing cheese before its cut into wedges etc. sat on top of the threaded screw.
Love getting my "Daily Dose"
Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!!
Michael Weber's demo rocks that Jackson so much that he should be using it' ...great for a few funky tunes but then you're back to your Paul for the rest of the set... sounds great though and looks ....'way out' ha ha
I watch your channel faithfully and I thought you may have the answer to my question. I have a Les Paul junior double cut tribute 2019 guitar and I'm searching for a case I've been through four or five cases and still can't find one that fits. I was hoping you could give me some information on which case to buy thank you and love your channel .
