Thanks for the video! I didn't know what my fasting method was called until now. I'm in constant 16:8 fasting where I only eat 2x a day. I don't eat snacks or junk foods anymore. I've done 20:4 fasting before and it rapidly reduced my weight after just 1 month............. The benefits I got was better sleep, reduced my waist size, reduced food expenses, and I removed my hypertension.

Why it reduced food expenses. Better quality food is in genernal more expensive and anyway you need a closed energy balance, because you cannot live in energy deficit for al longer period, otherwise you would lose to much weight and muscles.

DR BEEN--I'd like a deeper dive into times of day that are best to IF. For example, you indicated it might not be best to skip breakfast--but I find that is the easiest meal to skip--and feels effective. Once you eat breakfast--you're back on the food train. Rather, it feels good to continue the momentum from sleep/no food and even just DELAYING breakfast feels like some good stuff going on in there. Anyone else??

My wife and I have been doing IF over the last 5 - 6 weeks or so. Both for weight loss purposes. I've managed to fast completely one day per week over the last 3 weeks and on other days when I don't do weight training, I'll skip breakfast and, often, lunch as well. Down about 12 pounds so far and at least one belt loop. Craving food is tough, but yesterday, I just didn't eat and was surprised that I did not have any hunger until past 5 pm. I could have gone without dinner as well. It shows that the body can adapt to an IF lifestyle if given the chance.
My wife is doing an even more aggressive regimen. She will fast several days per week and even did 5 days in a row - though she was very tired toward the end of her fast. She's shed over 20 lbs and wants to lose more. This is the best weight loss plan we've ever tried. And it is so simple and customizable. No e-books, videos, special foods, counselors or extra expense of any sort.

Thank you for this Dr Been, you are a bright star within the medical firmament. I got a call from my NHS GP after a blood test in which he informed me that that I had become stage 2 diabetic for which he prescribed metformin - but I have put him off for 3 months & will combine 16-8 with a few changes in diet before getting that eventual blood test. In my experience there is no point in discussing other options with people who replied to my request for a Vit D test, by asserting that they do not provide such a service for what they consider as being nothing more than a 1990's fad. I am 66 & not overweight, walk each morning & still physically strong - may fortune always favour you & yours.

My husband and I have learned to be very gentle and kind with ourselves as we have slowly put intermittent fasting in to our eating regimen…
It’s taken my husband a year to now go down to eating one to 2 meals a day - afternoon and evening or just evening meal … I have been doing lower carbs between 50 to 60 a day for a few years
we drink a sort of bullet proof coffee during fasting times ( coffee with sugar free creamer or heavy cream or unsweetened nut milk , can add butter or mct oil to coffee too ) and we drink extra water.. I have to drink electrolyte sugar free water daily..
Your body needs extra electrolytes or good salt because we are eating a lot less foods and the body can get “keto flu”, a type of headache and feel under the weather which means you need extra electrolytes like good salts or You can drink any broths or waters that are sugar free with electrolytes..
This lifestyle eating Helps us feel a lot better and losing weight and continues lowering our diabetes until it’s under control and helps arthritis to hardly hurt for myself such a God send..

I often will do OMAD, One Meal A Day and find that it's quite a good schedule to stay one. About once a quarter, I'll do a 72 hour fast. After the first day, you're in the clear as you start to ditch the hunger as you're body settles into a groove. I'd like to do a one week fast, but haven't gotten there yet. I also workout through my fasts which ironically, you actually feel awesome as you're in a state of ketosis. I liken it to running on diesel in lieu of gasoline. I found many sources some of which are in your shared links. I started to use NCBI a lot. My health improved quite a bit. At first doctors and other tried to dissuade me. Now generally they like it but because of being part of a health system they cannot promote it. Independent doctors can though. After talking with HR person about it and some years after the HR department has brought in a metabolic health reversal program for employees. Though they dont promote intermittent fasting they do support much of the macros and other steps that is often used in conjunction with intermittent fasting.

Dr Been, first of all: thank you so much for your great way of explaining things so also non-medicals can get closest to understanding 🙏❣
    Second (question in the end):
I have long ago decided to let my body decide when it wants to eat and when not. I found out that in the mornings often I have no thought of food till sometimes 14h, getting close to 16 hours fasting at times, sometimes more.. Then I eat whatever my apetite calls for, fruits, oats muesli, leftovers of yday...
Later I might get hungry again and I have a meal, sometimes vegetarian, but also lots of sardines, tuna, makarel with veggies or grainy stuff, rice, hole wheat noodles.
I am 53, feel very healthy, not overweighed, energy is high mostly, I am sick extremely seldom. Sometimes I eat less than one meal, just some fruit, raw veggies, because my body doesn t come up with desires or much hunger. So, I give it a bit of basic nutrition and out I go again, digging, walking... quite irregular!
This is not therapy this is everyday life.
    Now the question:
Is that irreularity ok in your opinion or quite beneficial or maybe even a possible reason for my good health? 🤞🤞🤞 😂

As I learn about more I ask him and he usually is amenable. What I have to remember is he is taught as allopathic so I ask chemistry questions not nutritional questions. Example is zinc vs copper, calcium vs iron (in tissues or serum)…

I have been doing 16:8 for over 18 months. I skip breakfast. I get a bit hungry and it took a bit of time to get used to it. If find I get a little hungry a couple of hours before the scheduled meal. I drink water or tea and that usually cures it. IF that fails I do something to take my mind off of it.

yes please. as many details of step by step changes in the body as the fasting periods progresses over time. i became interested in keto, (have done 6 and 3 month periods of it with fasting periods 16 hours), and i often wondered how easy or difficult it is to enter and leave ketosis. I've often thought there is no way the body knows your average intake over the day of carbs, so it's rather a case of the body reacting immediately to what and when you eat. so a person could potentially enter and leave certain states simply on what is in their specific meal at the time and the length of periods between eating types of food.

OMAD is the way to live.
It's just awesome once you become metabolically flexible.
It highly suggest doing keto for a while before dropping meals.
Gotta get off the carb blood sugar crash cycles and ramp up the body fat metabolic engines.

I got Covid-19 nearly 3 yrs ago. It became LongHaulers, LongCovid-19 almost immediately. In that time, I have only eaten 1 meal or less daily at dinnertime. In nearly 3 years, my weight has remained exactly the same. I have no energy, no appetite. How can I force my body to lose weight (lots) with IF? I need to improve my health. I'm sure I'm preD. I'm fearful that I've been overtaken by SpikeProteins and have no healthy cells left. I'm not well enough to live & work but not sick enough to die. I would like to return to a life. Thank you, Drbeen.

How long do you do the fasting for? I do between 20:4 to 18:6 but I'm not sure if I continue for a month, 6 months, a year or if it is safe to continue that way permanently. I also find it interesting that in bible times Christ, and prophets, always said to fast and pray. I never understood the fasting, I thought it was unhealthy.... but I guess God knew that fasting was healing the body and praying was healing the soul.

DrBeen I would like futher information. Like diet for chronic inflammation.
I took the novavax vaxx and I start doing two days fasting, and now I am back to 18 hr fasting… which is my routine.
Is that good for spike protein? Or more aggressive?

One key is to keep the body guessing--so to speak. Don't get into patterns long term. So for example I tend to do a 17:7 IF, with occassional Skip days or occassional Zero Cal fasting days. It's best or most effective for me if I go 42 hours no food. There are also days during the week that I eat whenever I like--ignoring my 17:7. But only 1 day of that. In other words--change it up.

Does taking enzymes break a fast or aid a fast?
Can taking certain enzymes help assist in certain goals like weight reduction or detoxing? Glucose oxidase?
Can niacin speed up the start of benefits of IF?
What types of drinks are considered neutral for IF?
When you say no drinks,do you also mean no salt and no water?
How is the gut bacteria effected?
Can taking binders which stay in the digestive track, assist with detox and not break the fast?
Does the body producing bile hinder or help the body detox during IF? For example we could take tudca and then take a binder to help clear out the lymphatic system?
Does caffeine assist in IF? When I drink tea, I lose my appetite.
Does physical activity assist in the benefits of IF or inhibit it?
What the benefits of IF while one sleeps as opposed to being awake?
Isn't it important what one eats when ending the the fasting window?
Will you review different diet strategies?
    Yes,to hour by hour breakdown.
    Thank you very much.

I was 3 days into a juice fast when my wife, who wasn't fasting, brought home some thai food. She knew not to bring it upstairs and just eat without me. But, the smell came up the stairs. I decided to just go down and sniff, then I decided to jut take a little bite. Not sure how much time went by, but when I came back to reality, my wife was staring at me wide eyed because I had been slamming the food down. Not sure I was even chewing. I've done a number of different fast, short and very long. The hardest part has always been smelling other peoples food.
