I really liked the idea of this hammer having the head screwed on. In theory you can create other heads for this hammer and change them as needed. It can transform into a rubber-headed hammer (used in woodworking), tipped steel head, or even a small ax or wheel wrench.

Hammers like this one have been being made both mass produced and custom made for a long time. You are right, you change the heads out for whatever you need. Most commonly brass and Delrin or PLA heads are used on them.

I've made essentially exactly this before, just less cool looking and the one warning I have for this kind of thing is that even though the screw-on faces are soft, with enough use they will completely deform the actual hammer head.
This was bad enough on mine that the whole thing had to be scrapped so for v2 I put a thin (2mm ish) replaceable plastic washer behind each head to soak up the impacts and it seems to work well.

I remember decades ago, about 5, in metal shop in high school.
We did sand casting, sheet metal work and machine work on a lathe.
I made a small 2 faced hammer out of steel, brass and aluminum.
The head was about 1/2" diameter, was 2/3 steel & 1/3 brass. The handle was aluminum about 1/2" in diameter tapered to 1/4" tapped to fit into the head.

Looks really nice I'd recommend adding a small slit from the threads to the side not a something deep just a tiny 20tho deep slit to release an air trap in 2-5 years when you swap the ends out otherwise in a few years once oil and grime builds up it will trap a vacuum and feel like it was epoxy together.
Another option is coat the flats in blue loctie this will seal out dirt and make it even more solid when you want to swap the end just heat it up to around 350deg for a min or two and it will spin right off

I was woried there for a bit untill you mentioned the hammers replaceable faces. Even there I would cry with every mark made on them. A little bit of good guidance at the lathe is to turn your lathe file around and use it on the bottom of the piece. It is big time safer and you get a far better view of what your piece needs. I cut the files handle tang off and wrap the other end with some good electrical tape. The streachy stuff, not that fidty cent rools. Great piece, hang it on the wall where it belongs, LOL. Thanks a bunch and take care. See you soon.

Really cool idea! There are two issues I see. First, no way to lock the threads. If they start to come loose, continuing to use the hammer would cause damage to the threads.
Second (electrical background here), the dissimilar metals against each other will cause corrosion over time. I recommend wiping down the surfaces with de-ox before screwing them on.

Awesome video! It’s really cool seeing you get more into machining while still using the furnace and bringing them both together in the same project

I love the idea of more "sustainable" tools, a light aluminum body hammer with replaceable heads is really cool! The only thing i cold say is maybe have a counterweight slot in the base? i could see some heads messing with the tool by being too unwieldy due to top weight.

my mind is blown away with this concept, you could use the hammer as a sledge or even a rubber mallet if you made the attachments for it. excellent work!!!!

Metal handle on a hammer? How's that wrist feeling after working with it for a few hours?
