- When SPC Robert Thompson, Jr. left for his first two tours overseas, his sons were too young to understand. But before Thompson, Jr. was deployed for a third time early last year, there were tears.
They knew, Thompson, Jr. said. The pain they felt went into me.
Thompson, Jr., Chinook helicopter door gunner out of Fort Drum, spent nine months in Afghanistan, much of that time in the sky. Wednesday, he showed up to his son's Churchville-Chili school, Fairbanks Road Elementary, unbeknownst to his boys.
I feel horrible leaving them like I did. It's not just me, it's them that make the sacrifice - I just really wanted to make them feel better about it and hopefully this does that, he said before he entered the classroom.
Upon seeing his dad, Robert Thompson III leapt into his dad's arms. I love you, he whispered into his dad's ear. Minutes later, Thompson's younger son, Riley, entered and sprinted towards his dad."This is the best day of my life!"the boy exclaimed. Thompson, Jr. says he will spend some time stationed in Europe soon, but adds this past deployment in Afghanistan will likely be his last.
A man who has a son has the world's greatest treasure!
Hope those boys love their dad every bit as much now as they did back then! 😊
A proud daddy... And the " how are you buddy", he's proud of his two boys and loves them a lot
So touching video how these two boys hugs their father
the luckyist guy in the world to have two such beautiful boys.

This makes my heart glow! God bless this man!
Im proud to say I went to school with Bob. He is a Stand up guy. I would trust him with my life !
INFINITO AMOR
These military homecomings are beautiful and touching. BUT I always worry that in these classes there might be a child who’s daddy will never come home from the war.
Mark S. Roop ik him he’s in my school
It happens a lot more often than the media shows of course. The kids who lose a member of their family face a lifetime of mixed feelings, and need the upmost support from their fellow family members, friends, community.
Please welcome all the USA soldier Specialist Robert thanks for your service 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
INTENSO Y DULCE CALOR DE LOS NIÑOS EN LOS BRAZOS DE UN PADRE LLENO DE AMOR

TERNURA TOTAL AMOR DE PADRE
A Vietnam veteran couldn't even wear a uniform in civilian society without receiving criticism. These kids coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan don't know how lucky they are that American society is not treating them horribly as Vietnam and Korea vets were.
Very true. I was in Iraq from 2004-2005, not great, but did what we had to do. The most I remember was having fun with the Iraqi kids. They're mixed in the middle of a war between countries they don't understand, and don't want to be any part of. Most of them loved us, loved seeing us come through their villages, they knew when we were there they were safe....the things they had to go through were terrible.
I've been extremely interested in the Vietnam war recently for some reason, its just so sad to know how those who served in Vietnam were treated upon their return, terrible isn't even close to a good description.
The little guy cottoned on really quickly that Dad was there!

INTENSO CALOR AMOR DE. PADRE
For every kids with parents deployed, either parentsmcome home in one piece or in coffin.
You never really return in one piece, you may return physically, but its the mentality that's changed. You realize once you are home that things are not the same, you feel different, think different, look different. The changes aren't always on the outside, its the mental feelings, thoughts, etc. that you will never recover from, you just learn to deal with them and try and go about your life the best you can.
they camp with me!!!!!!!!!!
