  • Today we closed on a piece of land that has a lot of potential. I see us building and restoring this old homestead to a fully fuctioning new one. Thogh it may take time it is all worth it.

"Eat it up wear it out make it do or do without". That is the mantra that my mother raised me on. I'm just a country girl from West Virginia and I actually have that saying painted on a homemade plaque hanging in my living room, I kid you not! 😄🤣
I am a new subscriber to your channel just for that statement alone.🥰👍👍👍 I found your link through Adler Farms.🐐🧔 You know how videos come up on the bar at the bottom of the screen on your phone after you've seen the video? Well, yours came up in the algorithm and I started seeing this video. And when you said this statement, I'm like, I'm hooked! I got to see what these guys are up to. 🥰🇺🇸🤓

I'm from Fl. and down here a ''liter knot'' is a knot that grows on a pine tree caused by an accumulation of excess sap. It is used as a fire starter. So I would think that the original building was probably built as a wood shed to store wood for all those fireplaces and the doors were put on later to turn it into storage room..

Yep, and also fat lighter. I have a bunch on my property. The previous owner left a huge pile of it behind the woodshed. He planned on splitting it up and selling it, bit never got around to it. We use it 8n the winter to start a fire in the wood stove. We once made the mistake of using a big chunk in there. It got so hot it ran us right out of the cabin, lol. We will never do that again, hahaha! 🔥

That homestead is beautiful and it has to have an amazing history. If the house is impossible to be restored, maybe you could reclaim the wood and use it on the walls. indoors.
The chimney and foundation stones could certainly be reused as they were originally.
All of those plastic totes could be used as raised garden beds. Just drill some drainage holes in the bottom. Quick garden while you continue restoring the rest of the property.
Sorry my dreams of the property are certainly not your's. I know you will bring it back to life and it will be beautiful again.i can't wait to see what you do with it.

@@theresacoy9881 When my Uncle Warren and his WWII war bride, Aunt Edna returned from England, they lived in a very small house, formerly a neighbor's chicken coop.
My grandparents gave them a small section of their 6 acre farm to them for a house. It was like an old fashioned barn raising. Neighbors both black and white came together got it all built, dried in and rooms framed inside, no dry wall. My Aunt and Uncle hung sheets to divide the rooms. As they earned the money they completed the house. Other than my grandparents house their's was the most loving home I've ever been in.i miss these precious people in my life.

Fatwood is also known as lighter wood, pine knot, lighter knot, or heart pine. Fatwood is the resinous remains of a pine tree that has died. When a pine tree dies, either upright or fallen, the sap settles into the heartwood of the branches and trunk. bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/lighter-knot.171841/

I did not know that. We found some old receipts from a company inside the cabin. They used that name for their business too. That site was very insightful thank you for referencing it.

Maybe start a little country store. The Liter Knot would be a cute name for the store. Sell homestead items and goods. Similar to an Almost store.
