David Cameron: Brexit is a risk we can avoid - BBC News

  • Prime Minister David Cameron has been asked about the Remain camps scaremongering claims about leaving the EU. He told Andrew Marr that rather than scaremongering, it would be "irresponsible" not to warn voters about the risks of leaving the EU. He added that it would be a "risk" if Britain left the EU.

    Nothing will happen if we leave. We will get better without the EU. People need to realise that and believe in themselves. Stop listening to David Cameron's propaganda.

      Then you´ll have to assume, if the Brexit is a success, that Scotland will do another referendum again. The Government of Scotland has said it, and the rest of countries of the EU will see with good eyes that referendum.
      Apart from the economic and social consecuences of the Brexit, you can break your country.
      I´m just saying what would happen, but not if it is good or not, but in my opinion, that would be bad for the UK.

      The current state of the EU is already bad for us. Our country has to pay alot of money into the EU each month, when we could have instead used the money to invest in more businesses/jobs/improving our own country.
      The country has alot of immigrants coming in. British born people are finding it hard to get a job. British born people should come first. Our Britain needs to become great again. If we leave, we can. We will have the freedom to do whatever we want with our own money and choose where it goes.
      If Scotland wants to do a referendum again, then so be it. We care about our economy and our freedom of choosing what we can do with our money and our border control, so we're choosing Vote Leave always.

A decision with far reaching socio-economic consequences should never have been left to people who were not wholly informed. In my profession we would be sacked if we were willfully deceitful, absolutely no accountability from this abhorrent government. This video has certainly aged well.

    I had anti EU leaflet saying we should save money on the EU, as if they think Tories would spend any money not spend on EU on people or society, when reality says the opposite. As soon as they won election they lowered tax for the rich, increased VAT and other tax that affects the poor the most like bedroom tax, while saying there have to be cuts to
    vital services. Government use EU money for a lot of the get back to work schemes and farmers have subsidies.

    • @orangeedo
      @orangeedo 8 років тому

      Lower Tax for the rich brings in more revenue, because the EU makes it legal and easy for them to pay tax in places like Luxembourg, who have very low rates.

      orangeedo So you want to leave the EU so we can help the tax dodging corporate donors like Philip Green, and hope that the ones working for them might have what drips down after they have stripped all assets to buy latest yacht? With no EU directives allowing workers enough breaks. Instead of like Scotland free of Tories who spend money on university education and prescriptions? SNP want to leave UK to become a separate nation in EU.

    If milk farmers have it bad since Russia sanctions, it would be worse when not being able to sell milk to Europe. Our food prices will increase, but it won't be the ex Tories in UKIP who will suffer, as if we leave EU they will rejoin Tories. They will use it as an excuse to make the unselfish who are happy getting by without being a slave for the few at the top and poor pay the price.

    • @orangeedo
      @orangeedo 8 років тому +2

      If we have democracy back you can kick the tories out in a few years. Also, sanctions compared to a maximum tariff of 3% are completely different things. Also we could remove the enforced tariffs on non-EU producers and get cheaper prices on food. But all you need to answer is this: Do you want to live in a democracy, Yes or No?

    • @SuzLa1
      @SuzLa1 8 років тому +1

      I have studied EU law and I think we have more democracy in the EU, because all the politicians against the EU are only against it because they think it's preventing the few at the top mistreating most British people. Most people don't care about politics and all they know is last propaganda headline. The only reason they think UKIP care about British people is because UK is in the name.

    • @SuzLa1
      @SuzLa1 8 років тому +2

      SNP in Scotland have more seats than ever before, and SNP feel they will have more democracy leaving the UK and becoming a separate nation in EU, to be free of Tories forever. If we leave EU they can demand another referendum because last one was to stay in UK as part of EU. Then Tories would make rest of world hate England for reason only the few at the top gain from, while Scotland join other north European EU nations who spend money on the people such as university education.

    • @SuzLa1
      @SuzLa1 8 років тому +2

      Anti EU Tories and UKIP want to turn us into a USA state. They want us to be more like the USA because corporations have more ability to mistreat workers for the few at the top to make more money. USA corporations don't even have to label GM ingredients in food products.
      It says in all world economy books that the USA gains from Europeans fighting. That's how they managed to employ Nazi V-2 inventor as the head of Nasa to make their rockets to the moon.
      Murdoch newspapers have been found to be lying with anti EU propaganda, because he wants to turn is into a USA state. Imagine being more of a USA lap dog with Trump in power.
      Despite Tories first getting us in the European market in the first place when they thought it would only be good for the upper classes and their corporate donors, as soon as there were directives good for most people such as allowing workers enough breaks and making companies label GM ingredients Tories started to make the rest of Europea hate us to turn us into a USA state.
      Like when Thatcher made us the only country that allowed the USA to use us as an airport to bomb Libya which killed Gaddafi's child and led to Lockerbie. Even the Queen was upset at having such an uncaring PM.
      I have a good memory and Tories rely on all most people knowing about politics is last Tory propaganda headline they read. I remember that was in the cold war when Russia was an ally of Libya, the USA were planning a protective shield nicknamed Starwars, but we would have nothing.
      I can clearly remember a question dodging Tory being asked many times what protection we have in the USA protective shield while we're their lapdog and it took them ages to admit we wouldn't have anything, apart from setting off a nuclear bomb which would be responded to.

    People are voting leave mainly out of spite, and it's not a reasonable way to make a decision. This decision is going to be compromising either way; if you're spiteful, the concern for self harm is diminished. What matters more, is hurting the 'other'.

    • @bp-lx7lf
      @bp-lx7lf 5 років тому

      Couldn’t agree more. I am from the future (2018), and shit has hit the fan, all because a number of ‘enlightened’ individuals decided they wanted a ‘change’. The new deal that has been negotiated is one - sided, as was inevitable given the EU’s far stronger bargaining position. Where we stand now is a hung parliament, a stagnant economy, and irreversible damage to the UK’s international reputation. We collectively renounced rational reasoning in favour of a stubborn demand for ‘sovereignty’. The leaders of the two primary political parties are Theresa ‘Maybot’ May and Jeremy Corbyn, with such prodigious talent as Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Diane Abbott waiting in the wings for their respective leaderships to collapse. I say, as a young person who happens to take an interest in real - world events (and their consequences for my future), fuck them! Fuck the cosy pensioners, the racists, the bigots, and the supposed ‘patriots’! They have taken the collective futures of an entire generation and poured them unceremoniously down the gutter, for no better reason than to spite a couple of people who happen to be more educated and tolerant than them.

      Well, it's been 2 years and all the evidence points to European countries wanting to remain in the European Union. This is in part due to what has happened to the UK since the referendum. We've had a number of elections in the past 2 years across Europe, and again nothing to show that any of the countries are about to leave.
      So, at what point do we dismiss your prediction as false? And at what point will you retract your prediction and admit that it was wrong?

    The EU referendum has been very necessary and long time coming. I like a good debate. Both sides putting forward arguments and counter arguments with the hope that a balance result can be achieved. Unfortunately, the behaviour in this debate has been appalling to the extreme. What has become of this world when valid debate is immediately labelled and suppressed with cries of fascism, racism, un-educated, illiterate in order to silence them. Absurd claims of apocalyptic proportions and utter deception or blatant lies with a propaganda machine even the Nazis would have been proud of. Unfortunately, Here a few home truths.
    • This country’s democracy was given away by Heath and successive governments. It is no longer self-governing and is within a few years will merely be a province within the EU. Democracy and freedom have always been delivered down the barrel of a gun and with blood in the streets. Expect to get dirty if you want your country back.
    • There is lots of money at stake for a lot of people who will do whatever it takes to usurp the will of the people. Nowadays rigging the vote is unlikely. It is more likely to just be ignored or you will be asked again until you answer the way they want you to.
    • The risks and economic uncertainty of staying in is actually fairly clear and makes getting out seem less risky. It’s going to be a bumpy ride whichever way.
    • Open borders - ensures cheap labour for big companies ,places enormous pressure on infrastructure and services and ultimately dilutes national cultures. The dilution of national cultures is strategic in nature. The longer it goes on the less British culture you will have. Controlled Immigration ensures housing and infrastructure can be planned to accommodate.
    • Turkeys do not vote for Christmas - Assertions and “facts” thrown at you by Economists/Experts/Scientists are likely to be biased in favour of the people who fund them. Politicians are biased in favour of themselves. Do your own research into assertions and unbalanced facts.
    • “Those that don’t know history are bound to repeat it” - E.Burke. Democracy did not cause two world wars. Fascism was the leading cause. Nowadays the term is thrown around as a pejorative term to undermine or discredit. EU is extremely Fascist in nature. The Doctrine of Fascism states, "The Fascist conception of the State is all-embracing; outside of it no human or spiritual values can exist, much less have value. Thus understood, Fascism is totalitarian, and the Fascist State-a synthesis and a unit inclusive of all values-interprets, develops, and potentiates the whole life of a people.". It opposes liberal democracy. Ironically people opposed to the EU are labelled as Fascists by people who do not know what the term means.
    • Patriotism is very different to Nationalism. Labelling all patriots as nationalists and attempting to suppress the will of the people will lead to a rise in Nationalism as is being witnessed across the EU.
    The extreme irony is that far from the prosperity, stability and security that the EU purports to have delivered, it is not evidenced by the facts and the suppression of democracy is more likely to cause future conflict in Europe.
    I respect the remain camp’s arguments although I do not respect the their tone , however I disagree with them and do not see the EU as force for prosperity, stability, security in this world.

    Maybe there is another point. To put the entire EU project in danger of total co lapse could have far reaching problems down the future line of our nations. A total break up of the union could lead to a spread of nationalism and a consolidation of borders which in turn would lead to a build up of arms. We all know the consequences of where that would lead us. We should think carefully and remember 1914, a build up of arms and the spread of nationalism was the cause of that war

    All this fear mongering about leaving is ridiculous. If we vote leave, nothing happens for at least two years. Brexit has to go through parliament first. The two years starts from the date the EU is informed by the prime minister of our intention to leave. That allows time for all sorts of measures to be agreed. I would suspect that very little will change with security arrangements and intelligence sharing. Nothing will happen with trading arrangements for two years. Other Europeans working in the UK will remain working in the UK and will not be repatriated. As goes with Brits abroad.

The interview was a waste of time he didn't give any proper answers as to how we would shape Britain with rest of the world.I'm beginning to think his university only taught him about the European union and nothing what so ever about rest of the whole world which of course is gigantic to trade with compared the eu .

    I normally vote Conservative, but I see Cameron as a slithery traitor and not fit to lead us as PM. As he has proven himself to be so divisive and under-handed, it is well within his character to get the Brexit vote rigged. The only way we can have a chance of insuring against that is to make sure the Leave vote is overwhelming.

    Being in the EU created more uncertainty and apprehension IMO.
    - Will the EU make us adopt the euro this year?
    - Will the EU make us take in more refugees?
    - Will the EU pressure our PM to help bail out debt-ridden EU countries?
    - Will the EU make us sign yet another treaty handing over sovereignty?
    - Will the EU enable freedom of movement with Turkey this year?
    - Will the EU create an army this year?
    - Will the EU force us to go fully metric this year?
    - Will the EU eventually make us drive on the wrong side of the road?
    - It can't be long until the EU implements a Europe-wide highway code.
    - How long will it be until the EU forces us to display signage in multiple languages?
    - Will the cost of EU membership increase this year?
    - Will EU policies eventually force us to privatise the NHS?

    What will always puzzle me the most about David Cameron's legacy as a Prime Minister is the inconsistency between his speech, showing a clear and strong opposition to Brexit, and his staunch support for a referendum on the issue to be held, no matter what, I'm not questioning the decission of the British people to leave the European Union, after all, it is for them to decide whether to stay or not. I am not even criticizing Cameron for promoting the referendum in the first place either, since he was the leader of the goverment in a sovereign country, it's just that for me, as an ordinary citizen, his stand on the issue and his behaviour with regard to it, seems to be completely disjointed. Just saying.

    Wait until the Italy and France goes pop - Italy recorded a Government Debt to GDP of 132.70 %. They have serious banking issues they will never pay there debt off, of which 44% is held by external investors. France tried to cap their public debt to 95% of their GDP but they haven't it's 96% and they are not growing and will never pay that debt off much like Italy. Once the Markets realise it's a charade they are in trouble. Spain and Portugal are also up the creek, Deutsche Bank is on the verge of going bust and when it does it will trigger a financial crisis worse then 2007/2008. As we are the 2nd largest Economy in the EU and growing much faster compared to the countries previously mentioned who do you think Germany is going to ask to help bail out France and Italy because they can not afford to do it? It will be the UK. Is the EU any safer then not being in the EU, no it isn't it's actually far more risky for us. The EU needs massive reforms which will not happen if we vote to stay as that will send a message that we will take what they give us. Mark my words in 20 years you will regret voting to remain because you will be part of a massive European super state with very little democracy, paying crippling amounts of taxes as well as the country you live in not being recognisable.

A body in which the members of it's parliament can not vote on the trade regulations they impose? Has the British population been cowed so much that they surrender? I have no dog in this fight but I hope GB doesn't fall under German rule once again.
